Pericles Was One Of The Great Leaders Of Athens
Pericles was born c. 495 B.C. in Athens, Greece into a noble family. A prominent statesman and
strategos were his first jobs before he became a leader. His first jobs influenced him to be one of the
greatest leaders of Athens. He ruled Athens from 460 B.C. to 429 B.C. Pericles prospered the land
by strengthening the democracy, expanding the empire, and glorifying Athens. When Pericles first
ruled Athens, he created The Council of 500. The Council of 500 discussed and voted in assembly
meetings. Although Pericles supported The Council of 500, he thought that all people had the right
to vote. Not only the wealthy citizens, but also the poor were able to serve in the government. Since
he believed that every citizen

Qin Shi Huang Di As A Great Leader
Qin Shi Huang Di is remembered as one of the greatest rulers in Chinese's history, he has benefited
China by many of his creations, but some see him as the emperor who killed millions and burned
knowledgable books. Although, he only ruled for 15 years, he successfully united China after
centuries of civil war and built an empire that has lasted to this very day, he is known as both a
brutal tyrant and a great leader. He created a unified system of weights and measures, writing and
currency, but used violence to take control of China which eventually killed many scholars and
burnt books to wipe out heresy and brutality which was the basis of his greatest achievements. He

Imposing a universal written language allowed for better communication, orders and
implementation of policies. It was such a great concept which has boosted China's market to where
it is today.
Qin Shi Huang had many faults and unattractive features during his reign, he punished those who
opposed him and destroyed much knowledgable literature. One of his most well–known traits is
harshness. He ruled by force and violence maintaining strict order over his kingdom, and valued
obedience above all. As the first ruler to have united the Warring States, and subsequently impose a
central government with astonishing alacrity, this trait may seem expected in some ways. Hou and
Lu, Scholars of the Qin court in 221BC highlighted the emperor's wrong doings by saying 'The
emperor, never hearing his faults condemned, is growing prouder and prouder while those below
cringe in fear and try to please him with flattery and lies.' This tell us tat man were afraid to even
think about disobeying him, let alone suggesting an idea, many just did as they were told without
going their opinion. Qin Shi Huang was a a barbaric ruler, millions died through slavery or face
brutal punishments if they disobeyed any of his rules or orders. He did indeed invent and build many
projects but it was all at the expense of thousands of lives.Qin Shi Huang is most frequently faulted
for the Burning of the Books and burying of scholars. The treasured literature of

Leadership : A Great Leader
Leadership What or who comes to mind when you think about leadership? What is leadership?
Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group or an organization. Leadership is not just
about leading; it is about being able to lead even with the greatest of adversaries throwing
everything they can at you and still being able to succeed as a great leader. When I think about
leadership only one man comes to mind, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus of Nazareth was an
extremely important figure in the Christian religion, he is believed to be God himself in human
form. He is also considered to be one of the greatest leaders in history even after his death. Jesus
Christ was a great leader because of ability to speak to people, his ability to unite people in the
darkest of times, and a great teacher as well as leader so that he could leave an incomparable legacy
far beyond his death. "Then Jesus came and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me" Mathew 28:18. According to this verse in the bible, God gave Jesus all the authority
over the earth and in heaven, but what kind of authority does he show? When we all think about
authority, we think about power or privilege over others that may fear you as if you were a king or a
god. We think about dictators or police enforcement. We think of someone that enforces the rules.
With Jesus of Nazareth it is different. Jesus was a nonviolent person and spoke of peace everywhere
he went. Jesus did not incite fear in

Alexander The Great : The Military Leader Of Alexander The...
"I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion," is
my favorite quote from the famous Greek military leader Alexander III of Macedonia, also known as
Alexander the Great(Alexander The Great Quotes, 2012). Alexander knew battles were not won
simply because of how strong one's soldiers were, but by how powerful and wise the leader was.
Alexander was that powerful and wise leader for Macedonia's army and arguably the best military
leader of all time. He displayed numerous characteristics of adaptive leadership. Also, he used traits
of an team management over his army to help to build a relationship with them and to lead them to
victory. Alexander III of Macedonia was great because he was an adaptive leader who used team
management to further the success of Macedonia's military. Alexander III was born in 356 BCE in
Macedonia, a region in Greece. His father was King Philip II of Macedonia and Alexander's mother
was Olympias. Once King Philip II died, Alexander became King of Macedonia in 336 BCE. As
Alexander was growing up, he was significantly influenced by the wise philosopher
Aristotle(Alexander The Great Biography, 2014). Alexander was tutored by Aristotle in various
subjects. Some of these subjects were poetry, philosophy, and ideals of government. Alexander The
Great later used these ideals to help him govern the nations that he conquered. There is not much
information about his youth years due to how distant in the past

Characteristics of a Great Leader
Leaders have existed throughout history in one form or another. The process of passing down
gathered knowledge from one generation to the next has been present in every human society, past
or present. Although leadership is an important part of the human experience, our relationship with
our followers is an essential part of our life and directly affects our well being. In this paper, the
focus will be on the strengths, weaknesses, and conflict styles.
In order to be a leader, a leader must have several characteristics such as easy to communicate with
people, determined, optimistic, good listener, responsible, passionate, quick thinking, honesty,
perseverance, and care for people. Bordas's "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit", utilizes diverse cultures as a
way to demonstrate the concept of leadership. By defining leadership through diverse cultures, it
illustrates an idealistic perception of leadership and emphasize for those who seek to possess this
attribute. According to Bordas, she states, "You have to work as hard as [your followers] do, or
harder, and with them. You've got to be fair. You've got to say 'These are the rules. I will abide by
them.' You need to be willing to sacrifice if you are going to ask people to sacrifice" (93). In my
opinion, this quote demonstrates a vivid image of the importance of leadership and the significances
it creates despite the challenges and circumstances because leaders set the standard for followers;
however, in order for followers to trust

Alexander The Great: The Most Successful Military Leaders...
Alexander the Great was one of the most successful military leaders in the ancient world. He started
his military career when he was only eighteen years old. He mercilessly destroyed almost all of the
nations he encountered, never losing a single battle. He is the greatest military leader of all time who
conquered more than half of the ancient world. Alexander the Great was a Macedonian king born in
356 B.C. His father, Philip II, was king of Macedonia. It was Philip that hired Aristotle to tutor him
when he was young. At the age of eighteen, Alexander was promoted to command his father's
cavalry. He aided his father in the defeat of the Greek cities of Athens and Thebes. He was named

What Are Alexander The Great Leaders
Abraham Lincoln, Adolf Hitler, Augustus Cesar, Joan of Arc, Napoleon Bonaparte. Can anyone tell
me what all these people have in common? (brief pause) All these people were great leaders. Now
when I say "great", I am not necessarily referring to their morals or political world view. Perhaps
better term would be "influential" leaders. And interestingly enough, all of the leaders mentioned
were also in some capacity involved with the military. However, before all these, one man was so
prominent in terms of his leadership and accomplishments that the for–mentioned and many other
leaders today follow in his footsteps to some respect. His name was Alexander the Great. Now you

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: A Great Leader
In 1933, suffering partial paralysis due to polio and having served just one week in office as
president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered his first fireside chat by radio to millions of
Americans suffering effects of the Great Depression. He made connections to average people and
made them feel he understood their plight and could help. Roosevelt was a leader whom I admire
because he was a great communicator, he was empathetic, and he was a problem solver. These traits
helped Roosevelt to accomplish great things at a time when America needed a great leader.
Roosevelt's skill as a communicator helped him to become a great leader. He was motivational and
reassuring about the state of the nation in his inaugural speech when he told people "the only thing
we have to fear is fear itself." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He enacted social programs to assist the average citizen recover from the harsh economic times of

thought that the Depression would run its course and was not a government issue. Roosevelt saw the
solution in government intervention with programs and reform. Roosevelt faced difficulty due to his
disability and needed to rely on others to help him politically. His solution was to surround himself
with skilled people whom he sent on missions to gain intelligence as he developed his foreign policy
leading up to World War II. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, Roosevelt delivered his
"day of infamy" speech to Congress and asks for a declaration of war against Germany. In 1942,
Roosevelt took steps to create an alliance of the Allied powers with a "United Nations." A strong

Absolute leader of Russia during the late 17th century. Peter the Great was an absolute leader, which
is the principle or the exercise of complete and unrestricted power in government. Peter the Great
can also be seen as a successful leader, which I define as when a leader or an government rules their
term successful and it can cause the other people to boycott against the leader or the government. An
example of a successful leader is Julius Caesar who was a leader in Rome and was assinated by the

Alexzander The Great Leader

Moreover, he would not make a conquered country or city pay harsh taxes to him. In fact, some of

Cyrus The Great : The Greatest Leader Of The Great Persian...
Introduction:
The greatest leaders in the history leave behind some sort of legacy. Cyrus the great was the founder
of the great Persian Empire around 550 B.C., which was the largest empire at that time. The empire
was stretched from Indus valley in the east to Thrace and Macedon on the northeastern boarder of
Greece which makes the largest empire of the world. Ancient Egypt was also under the rule of
Achaemenid Empire (Hegel, G. W., & Sibree, J., 2015).
Prior to Cyrus's rule, Persia was a small tributary state to the Median Empire, which happened to be
ruled by Cyrus's grandfather, Astyages. Persia paid the Medes for protection and to maintain a level
of independence. Cyrus came into conflict with his grandfather and initiated a rebellion that
ultimately succeeded in 550 BCE. Cyrus got victory over Astyages by building a city on the site of
the battle and naming it Pasargadae, after his tribe. By defeating Astyages, Cyrus took on his role as
ruler of what had been the Median Empire. Everyone who had been paying tribute to Astyages
accepted Cyrus as their new ruler. In order to solidify his power, Cyrus had to find ways to bring
lesser rulers under his control. His success earned Cyrus the title of "Cyrus the Great." (Empires,
A.O., 2011).
This paper reflects the pattern of Persian rule over the four corners of the world. According to
Cyrus:
"I am Cyrus, king of the world, great king, mighty king, king of Babylon, king of the lands of Sumer
and Akkad, king of the four

Emperor Qin: Great Leader Or Tyrant?
Emperor Qin
Great leader or tyrant?
Before 221 BC, China was separated into different states, and there was great conflict between
them. This was the Warring States Period (475 – 221 BC) Qin Shi Huangdi, then known as Ying
Zheng, was made ruler of the Qin district, and made many great changes to society. He created a fair
military system, built one of the worlds most iconic national structures, and unified the warring
states that would come to be known as China. Qin was a highly regarded leader, and changed China
for the better.
Before Qin became emperor, the government system was not fair. He improved it by ranking

He made everything from currency to law much easier in the countries. He standardised many things
that were different in the separate states, which made life easier for travellers. The currency,
measurements, weight and script were made the same throughout the country, which simplified what
merchants had to go through when selling to other people. He made all the laws the same throughout
all the provinces and put all the houses into groups that were responsible for each other's
wrongdoing. Qin's way of ruling was carried out for many dynasties after his death, and changed the
way China was ruled forever.
Qin Shi Huang was an exceptional leader, and made lots of things in China much better than they
were; he stopped a war between the states and made the rule fair. He created a better government
system, contributed to the most important buildings of time in China, and unified all the seven states
into one successful country. Although many may think Qin was a brutal and harsh leader, he
contributed to Chinese society in more ways than one. Qin was a great leader, and there is much to
be learned from his ways.

weaknesses as an effective leader in relation to my list of great leadership characteristics. As a final

word to define. There are so many different meanings that leadership has meant over the centuries.
My personal definition is, "Leadership is a positive process that helps followers to move in the right

leaders have the most influence on their employees in the work environment during the
improvement of their products and services. Furthermore, one of the most important contributions a
leader can make to his company is the creation of a team atmosphere within the company culture.
This is done with the correct amount of encouragement, criticism, and motivation to maintain a
balance that will drive employees with the spirit to succeed. 3. Integrity– Integrity is the
combination of inner core values and a person's external actions. An individual with high integrity
will act the same externally as they feel on the inside. This type of person is trusted by employees
because they do not waver from their core value system, even if at times it may be easier to do so.

Alexander the Great: Strenghts and Weaknesses as a Person,...
For centuries, Alexander the Great has held an eminent place in history. Arguably one of the greatest
men the world has ever known, the Macedonian King accomplished many great feats in his short,
but glorious life. During his reign, Alexander played several roles in the process of conquering the
Persian empire, and in the assessment of his character, aspects of Alexander's capabilities of both
strengths and weaknesses must be explored in him as a person, a statesman and a leader. Alexander
was a complex, inscrutable man of passion and iron–will . The King possessed a keen intellect, with
an ability to make quick decisions. He had supreme courage and excellent leadership skills , which

The King also had an erratic and dangerous temper, which was almost maniacal. Alexander often
succumbed to the terrible and fervent outbursts of rage and to combine this with the influence of
wine which he drank heavily, could lead to the most terrible of tragedies. The extreme instance of
this is the death of Cleitus the Black, who was murdered by Alexander in a drunken fit of rage.
Nonetheless, Plutarch and Arrian, claimed that Alexander's heavy drinking was merely and
impression that developed from the King's long conversations with friends, and the lingering over
his drink. It is particularly difficult to assess Alexander as a statesman, for his views as a statesman
were in a state of flux when he died. His political creations were still in a developmental stage and
had as yet take definite shape, but Alexander did display political wisdom by separating financial,
civil and military power. One of his great achievements was his financial measure in reforming the
coinage and bringing into line with each other the decimal currency of Persia with the duodecimal
system of Macedonia. This was not only a great contribution to economic prosperity throughout the
empire, but also impeded Athens as competition and involved her as a trading partner instead.
Alexander also entertained a grandiose plan for uniting the East and the West in a world empire of
racial equality. Unfortunately, this did not succeed as he planned. Nevertheless, the King's conquest

King Alexander: A Great Leader Of Man
Not only was Alexander a great leader of men, but he was great at coming up with unique new ideas

art of warfare from experts of many different cultures. He learned about engineering feats such as
catapults, portable bridges, and siege towers and how to successfully negotiate for weapons, food,
and other things required to have a successful army by studying with his father and his father's men

Had he not conquered Persia and lands extending to Africa and India, the Greek culture might have
just been localized to Greece (USHistory, 3), and the tremendous Greek influence we see in our
society today would not be so prevalent and obvious (Freeman, 323). Alexander's conquests allowed
new trade routes from the east to the west between Europe and Asia. This increased trade and also
helped the spread of culture and religion (Clark, 2). Widespread use of the Greek language led to
more development and appreciation of Greek art, philosophy, and drama (Clark, 1). The impact of
Alexander's conquests was that Greek culture was spread over a vast area. This included their
language, philosophy, artistic style, and architectural elements throughout the regions they now
ruled (ConnectEd, 4). Alexander's conquest helped the spread of Christianity because the New
Testament was written in Greek, and since most people of the region knew the common language of
Greek, it was easy for the religious teachings to spread (Freeman, 327). One could make an
argument that the Christian religion would not have succeeded in becoming widespread without the
spread of Hellenistic culture. It would likely have remained a local phenomenon (Freeman,

Qualities Of A Great Leader
Leadership. There are many who find themselves in the position of leadership within their place of
work, but that doesn't always mean that they are effective as a leader. The success of a company can
rely on whether or not those in management know how to instruct and direct others on their team.
What are the true characteristics of a great leader? Great leaders have the ability to empower others,
which will influence other people (Maxwell, 1997). Being a mentor is one very important quality of
being a successful leader. In his book Developing the Leaders Around You (1995), John C. Maxwell
states "Great leaders share themselves and what they have learned" (Maxwell, 1995, p 34). These

That was over 10 years ago, and that former manager left a lasting impression which has inspired
me to come alongside others as he did for me. Another great quality of a leader is to be a mentor.
This is not a new concept, but it is new to the company that I work for where they have now
instituted a new mentorship program. Currently, I am being mentored by an Accounting Manager
whom I chose for the following reasons. First, he has been with the company for over 25 years and
understands the business, which includes the politics of the corporation and how to handle certain
situations. Second, my knowledge of accounting is limited and he takes time to explain the
company's financials. He has been an asset in guiding me in my professional career. Because of
these managers and mentors, past and present as mentioned above, I have developed skills to help
me lead others both personally and professionally. Leaders also have the ability to motivate others to
achieve greatness. Often, lofty goals are set that are difficult for one person to accomplish alone. A
true leader understands that they cannot take on the task alone. Therefore they need other like–
minded individuals on their team in order to obtain the goal. According to Glick–Smith (2015),
leaders are able to instill significance in others because they know they cannot tackle their obstacle

The Characteristics Of Great Leaders
What separates leaders, especially mediocre ones from the great ones? What are the attributes and
behaviors that great leaders display in order to influence people, to follow them and change the
world? Great leaders are effective when they are trustworthy, empower others, and connect with
their followers or the people they influence. Trust is the foundation of any great leader. 1) When
Richard Nixon lost the trust of the American people he knew another bid for the Presidency was
over.In the process, Nixon lost his identity as a leader and subsequently the respect and trust of the
American people whom he had worked so diligently to gain. He and many other leaders like him
attempted to isolate himself from the people of which he lead instinctively going into survival mode;
denying the ultimate truth that success as a leader is impossible if attempted to go it alone. 2) Before
Steve Jobs came back for his second amazing round at Apple, he lost the trust of the executives and
John Sculley a power struggle ensued amongst them and Jobs was ousted from the very company he
created. In the spring of 1985 Apple's board sided with the CEO, removing Jobs from his command
of the Macintosh group. Trust is the foundation of every great leader. Trust with followers comes
from the character of the leader. A great leader must have patience, integrity, confidence, and
transparency. If one can win the trust of people, people will follow. Great leaders have the ability to
solidify trust by empowering those willing to follow them.
A great leader knows their team member's strengths and plays to these strengths by giving them task
that they know will help the individual succeed as well as the overall team.
3) John C. Maxwell in his book 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says that, "a leader must give up
in order to go up". No great leader accomplishes great things by themselves; it takes a team of
people.
Great leaders in order to win with people must have personable attributes to connect with the people
following them. That isn't to say that everyone has to like the leader personally but the leader must
be able to connect with the people following. 4) A prime example can be found in the 2008

Macedonia, which is now a part of northern Greece. Alexander was born to the ruler of Macedonia:

heroes like Achilles and Hercules from his mother, and his mother taught him that he was heir to
both of them. She told Alexander that, Achilles was her ancestor and Hercules was his father's
(Phillip II) ancestor. Achilles was Alexander's model and he always wished to become like him.
Alexander's father also always encouraged him to do something heroic and win battles, countries
and write his name on the golden page of history. As Alexander received education from Aristotle, it
was no wonder that he achieved the level of maturity in his early age. He was charmed with the
work of Homer. Aristotle used every possible way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

my opinion Alexander the great wasn't so great after all the things he had done as a Macedonian

unnecessary things. He was a man who did not let anything stand in his way. For example, if

However, appearance is not likely to reflect reality. Macedon in this period may well have been
fraught with discontent, and it provides insights into the Macedonians' attitude to their king and him
to them. At the same time a consideration of the Macedonian background also lends further weight

Leadership is when a person in charged where others look up to you. You have responsibilities that
others do not. Being a leader is a big responsibility in itself and leaders take in account

page. Leadership is the ability to get a group to come as one. Leaders see the "big picture." Being a

others are watching therefore they live as a prototype of what is acceptable. They know they are a

Oedipus Great Leader
The Makings of Great and Terrible Leaders During these tough political times in America the
question of what makes a leader great or terrible has been the topic of discussion for numerous
people. This question, however, has been around for centuries. The Three Theban Plays by
Sophocles features a play called Oedipus at Colonus in which Sophocles looks at that question and
introduces several types of leaders to help readers conclude what makes a leader great or terrible. In
the play, Oedipus arrives on holy ground on the outskirts of Athens with his daughter Antigone.
What follows is a battle for where his body will be buried. Traits of a great leader can be seen in
Theseus while traits of a bad leader can be found in Creon. Theseus is the king of Colonus, the place
where Oedipus has arrived with his daughter Antigone. He is summoned because Oedipus and his
daughter are standing on holy ground that is sacred to the Eumenides. One trait that makes Theseus
a great leader is his kindness. This kindness can be seen when he says,
"In the old days I often heard your legend, the bloody mutilation of your eyes. I know all about you,
son of Laius...Tell me all. Your story, your fortunes would have to be grim indeed to make me turn

Alexander always loved Greece and was selfless when he was young. Alexander kept these traits

One example of innovative tactics is when he had his men cross the Tiber River, so they could sneak
up on the Persians and destroy their army with a surprise attack. This led him to a great victory with
using a small army against a very big one. This is an example of his army being efficient. In his
youth, Alexander studied war tactics with his mentors instead of going out and wasting time on
games. He was forged to be a great, dominant leader. Alexander was very good at deciding between
fair and honorable and this was a hard thing to do that helped his military career a lot. Alexander had
amazing pre war speeches and this one consisted of him telling the soldiers their existence depended
on their effort in the war. This particular war he did not have many soldiers compared to the
Persians, but his superior tactics led him to victory. Alexander set up his army with cavalry in the
middle with archers on both sides of that, and on the sides of the archers were soldiers on foot with
non ranged weapons. This tactic is a great tactic because the archers can provide cover for soldiers

Alexander The Great Was The Greatest War Leader, Genius,...
Throughout history, Alexander III of Macedon, commonly referred to as Alexander the Great
throughout history, has been thought of by many to be an enlightened thinker, multiculturalist, an
ambitious, egotistical tyrant, and conqueror through evidence recorded, and passed along through
generations. It is arguable, through evidence, that Alexander the Great was the most successful,
greatest war leader, genius, and ruler there ever was. Many argue that he took over different pieces
of land for the wrong reasons, and wanted to control the people in a way that a monarchy would.
This may be due to his strategies that were not only were in his best interest, but also helped to
accommodate others' needs, such as the commoners or citizens of different villages and towns he
conquered over time. Other war generals and rulers, who lived during the same time period, or even
past Alexander's reign, or death, copied and mimicked his strategies that he used with people of
other countries that he had conquered, and during times of war and expansion of his empire. To this
day, people still study his war strategies and how he thought. Alexander knew how to communicate
with the people, and offer something in return to get what he had wanted. As a young boy at the age
of 13, Alexander III of Macedon was tutored by Aristotle, a famous Greek philosopher, who was
also in charge of Peripatetic school, in which his father hired. Aristotle lived from 384–322 BCE.

the principles he learned in his childhood. He learned to give willingly, plan for his followers, and to

people around him. He gave dishes of food to the people around his grandfather. "Whereupon,
without more ado, the boy Cyrus took first one dish and then another and gave them to the
attendants who stood around his grandfather..." (Xenophon 6). This shows how easily he handed out
his food at his grandfather's dinner. Later, he gave many gifts to his friends and when they tried to

Alexander The Great : The Powerful Leader Of Alexander The...
Alexander the Great was a powerful man from when he was a child, and he grew up to be one of the
most powerful and courageous leaders of all time. He first demonstrated this strength and courage at
the age of fourteen. Alexander was very fascinated when it came to horses and he watched the
unsaddled horses gallop around. Not even the best riders were able to break in the horses. A horse
was then brought in that no one, not even the mighty King Philip, Alexander's father, could master.
The horse, Bucephalus, was bound to be the most famous horse in history. King Philip, with his
temper, wanted to get rid of him, but Alexander said he could ride him and he did. From that day
forward, Bucephalus was the horse Alexander rode in battle, and that was the day of his very first,
but not last victory. Alexander the Great was one of the most powerful and strong leaders of all time
who conquered most of the ancient world, built a city in his name, and managed to always put his
people first. "Alexander learned early in his youth that he was Crown Prince, and that some day he
would inherit the Macedonian throne." From the beginning, he had a very determined streak. When
he was twelve years old a courier let Alexander know that his father had been victorious in a huge
battle and Alexander complained that there was not going to be any battles for him to win. He was
not very fond of sports, even though he was quite good at them; he did however, enjoy hunting.

Characteristics Of A Great Leader
To be a great leader one must have many attributes or qualities. Some of the most important are
flexibility, communication, courage, humility, and responsibility. A great leader must be flexible as
being a leader usually consists of dealing with new challenges all the time, especially in the
technological age. Communication consists of effectively conveying expectations and understanding
how people will interpret the leader's directions. A great leader must have the courage to see the path
that the group must take to complete the goal regardless of the consequences. When a great leader
does not correctly handle a situation he or she must have the humility to admit that he or she was

Part of the reason that the idea of great leaders being born is appealing is that a great leader is so
hard to define. It can be discussed what great leaders do and how they act. Sometimes all we are
good at though is identifying who a great leader is outside of ourselves. It is difficult to answer the
question "Why aren't you a great leader?". The initial reaction would most commonly be that you
just aren't. It seems that you weren't meant to be. With that the idea that great leaders are born to be
that way seems appealing. If we look at history many great leaders came seemingly out of nowhere.
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln did not need to attend leadership seminars to lead the
nation. With all that is done for leadership nowadays and the mixed results, it seems that there is
something intrinsic that great leaders have. Many companies focus their efforts on trying to develop
leaders from within the company to fill critical roles. Many times though there is a leadership talent
gap from where the company would like the given leader to be and where he or she actually is. A lot
of what is attributed to a leader begin great is luck. To be truly great the leader usually is presented
with a monumental opportunity to lead in the face of adversity. The leader is lucky to have come
upon this situation and be given the chance to rise to the occasion. By capitalizing on this lucky
situation the

Great Leaders : A Great Leader
Great spiritual leaders are needed in the church, the secular world, and in all areas of society. The
book is introduced by talking about humility. It explains how a person that is pursuing to become a
great spiritual leader is actually freed from the idolatry of self–centeredness. They no longer have to
seek position and power, but they are released to pursue greatness like Jesus exampled in humility,
effectiveness, and service. Great leaders are concerned about others and leave them in a better state
than when they found them. Great spiritual leaders need to learn and develop into the men or women
the Lord intended them to become. McNeal does a tremendous job of laying out what a person
needs to do to be a great leader. He gives seven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next chapter is all about decision–making. McNeal says, "Great leaders know how to make
decisions, when to make decisions, and what decisions need to be made." Good leaders are also
asking and spending their limited time on the right questions.
The discipline of belonging is covered in chapter six. Great leaders maintain significant
relationships; even though they take time an effort. On the contrary, chapter seven talks about the
discipline of aloneness. One fact of leadership is that there will be times that are secluded from
others. A leader must choose to set aside alone time to emotional and spiritual challenges of life.
Great spiritual leadership is an accumulation of multiple disciplines and practices. Leaders have an
option as to whether or not they choose greatness.
Concrete Response Each one of these disciplines prompts my memory to various stories and
experiences in my life. I can see how each one has shaped and molded me into the leader that I am
today. One story in particular came to mind as I was reading the chapter on self–development. I
have always been a learner and a reader. I have listened to podcast, sermons, and others forms of
self–education all of my life. However, for over twelve years, for some reason, I have run from
formal education in ministry. I obtained an associate degree in nursing at an early age. I worked for
a short few years as a nurse and then started working full time in ministry. I knew the work and

Pericles Was One Of The Great Leaders Of Athens

  • 1. Pericles Was One Of The Great Leaders Of Athens Pericles was born c. 495 B.C. in Athens, Greece into a noble family. A prominent statesman and strategos were his first jobs before he became a leader. His first jobs influenced him to be one of the greatest leaders of Athens. He ruled Athens from 460 B.C. to 429 B.C. Pericles prospered the land by strengthening the democracy, expanding the empire, and glorifying Athens. When Pericles first ruled Athens, he created The Council of 500. The Council of 500 discussed and voted in assembly meetings. Although Pericles supported The Council of 500, he thought that all people had the right to vote. Not only the wealthy citizens, but also the poor were able to serve in the government. Since he believed that every citizen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Qin Shi Huang Di As A Great Leader Qin Shi Huang Di is remembered as one of the greatest rulers in Chinese's history, he has benefited China by many of his creations, but some see him as the emperor who killed millions and burned knowledgable books. Although, he only ruled for 15 years, he successfully united China after centuries of civil war and built an empire that has lasted to this very day, he is known as both a brutal tyrant and a great leader. He created a unified system of weights and measures, writing and currency, but used violence to take control of China which eventually killed many scholars and burnt books to wipe out heresy and brutality which was the basis of his greatest achievements. He started many major structures such as the early structure of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imposing a universal written language allowed for better communication, orders and implementation of policies. It was such a great concept which has boosted China's market to where it is today. Qin Shi Huang had many faults and unattractive features during his reign, he punished those who opposed him and destroyed much knowledgable literature. One of his most well–known traits is harshness. He ruled by force and violence maintaining strict order over his kingdom, and valued obedience above all. As the first ruler to have united the Warring States, and subsequently impose a central government with astonishing alacrity, this trait may seem expected in some ways. Hou and Lu, Scholars of the Qin court in 221BC highlighted the emperor's wrong doings by saying 'The emperor, never hearing his faults condemned, is growing prouder and prouder while those below cringe in fear and try to please him with flattery and lies.' This tell us tat man were afraid to even think about disobeying him, let alone suggesting an idea, many just did as they were told without going their opinion. Qin Shi Huang was a a barbaric ruler, millions died through slavery or face brutal punishments if they disobeyed any of his rules or orders. He did indeed invent and build many projects but it was all at the expense of thousands of lives.Qin Shi Huang is most frequently faulted for the Burning of the Books and burying of scholars. • 9. Leadership : A Great Leader Leadership What or who comes to mind when you think about leadership? What is leadership? Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group or an organization. Leadership is not just about leading; it is about being able to lead even with the greatest of adversaries throwing everything they can at you and still being able to succeed as a great leader. When I think about leadership only one man comes to mind, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Jesus of Nazareth was an extremely important figure in the Christian religion, he is believed to be God himself in human form. He is also considered to be one of the greatest leaders in history even after his death. Jesus Christ was a great leader because of ability to speak to people, his ability to unite people in the darkest of times, and a great teacher as well as leader so that he could leave an incomparable legacy far beyond his death. "Then Jesus came and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me" Mathew 28:18. According to this verse in the bible, God gave Jesus all the authority over the earth and in heaven, but what kind of authority does he show? When we all think about authority, we think about power or privilege over others that may fear you as if you were a king or a god. We think about dictators or police enforcement. We think of someone that enforces the rules. With Jesus of Nazareth it is different. Jesus was a nonviolent person and spoke of peace everywhere he went. Jesus did not incite fear in ... • 13. Alexander The Great : The Military Leader Of Alexander The... "I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion," is my favorite quote from the famous Greek military leader Alexander III of Macedonia, also known as Alexander the Great(Alexander The Great Quotes, 2012). Alexander knew battles were not won simply because of how strong one's soldiers were, but by how powerful and wise the leader was. Alexander was that powerful and wise leader for Macedonia's army and arguably the best military leader of all time. He displayed numerous characteristics of adaptive leadership. Also, he used traits of an team management over his army to help to build a relationship with them and to lead them to victory. Alexander III of Macedonia was great because he was an adaptive leader who used team management to further the success of Macedonia's military. Alexander III was born in 356 BCE in Macedonia, a region in Greece. His father was King Philip II of Macedonia and Alexander's mother was Olympias. Once King Philip II died, Alexander became King of Macedonia in 336 BCE. As Alexander was growing up, he was significantly influenced by the wise philosopher Aristotle(Alexander The Great Biography, 2014). Alexander was tutored by Aristotle in various subjects. Some of these subjects were poetry, philosophy, and ideals of government. Alexander The Great later used these ideals to help him govern the nations that he conquered. • 17. Characteristics of a Great Leader Leaders have existed throughout history in one form or another. The process of passing down gathered knowledge from one generation to the next has been present in every human society, past or present. Although leadership is an important part of the human experience, our relationship with our followers is an essential part of our life and directly affects our well being. In this paper, the focus will be on the strengths, weaknesses, and conflict styles. In order to be a leader, a leader must have several characteristics such as easy to communicate with people, determined, optimistic, good listener, responsible, passionate, quick thinking, honesty, perseverance, and care for people. Bordas's "Salsa, Soul, and Spirit", utilizes diverse cultures as a way to demonstrate the concept of leadership. By defining leadership through diverse cultures, it illustrates an idealistic perception of leadership and emphasize for those who seek to possess this attribute. According to Bordas, she states, "You have to work as hard as [your followers] do, or harder, and with them. You've got to be fair. You've got to say 'These are the rules. I will abide by them.' You need to be willing to sacrifice if you are going to ask people to sacrifice" (93). In my opinion, this quote demonstrates a vivid image of the importance of leadership and the significances it creates despite the challenges and circumstances because leaders set the standard for followers; however, in order for followers to trust ... He started his military career when he was only eighteen years old. He mercilessly destroyed almost all of the nations he encountered, never losing a single battle. He is the greatest military leader of all time who conquered more than half of the ancient world. Alexander the Great was a Macedonian king born in 356 B.C. His father, Philip II, was king of Macedonia. It was Philip that hired Aristotle to tutor him when he was young. At the age of eighteen, Alexander was promoted to command his father's cavalry. (brief pause) All these people were great leaders. Now when I say "great", I am not necessarily referring to their morals or political world view. Perhaps better term would be "influential" leaders. And interestingly enough, all of the leaders mentioned were also in some capacity involved with the military. However, before all these, one man was so prominent in terms of his leadership and accomplishments that the for–mentioned and many other leaders today follow in his footsteps to some respect. Franklin Delano Roosevelt: A Great Leader In 1933, suffering partial paralysis due to polio and having served just one week in office as president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered his first fireside chat by radio to millions of Americans suffering effects of the Great Depression. He made connections to average people and made them feel he understood their plight and could help. Roosevelt was a leader whom I admire because he was a great communicator, he was empathetic, and he was a problem solver. These traits helped Roosevelt to accomplish great things at a time when America needed a great leader. Roosevelt's skill as a communicator helped him to become a great leader. Roosevelt faced difficulty due to his disability and needed to rely on others to help him politically. His solution was to surround himself with skilled people whom he sent on missions to gain intelligence as he developed his foreign policy leading up to World War II. Peter the Great was an absolute leader, which is the principle or the exercise of complete and unrestricted power in government. Peter the Great can also be seen as a successful leader, which I define as when a leader or an government rules their term successful and it can cause the other people to boycott against the leader or the government. • 41. Cyrus The Great : The Greatest Leader Of The Great Persian... Introduction: The greatest leaders in the history leave behind some sort of legacy. Cyrus the great was the founder of the great Persian Empire around 550 B.C., which was the largest empire at that time. The empire was stretched from Indus valley in the east to Thrace and Macedon on the northeastern boarder of Greece which makes the largest empire of the world. Ancient Egypt was also under the rule of Achaemenid Empire (Hegel, G. W., & Sibree, J., 2015). Prior to Cyrus's rule, Persia was a small tributary state to the Median Empire, which happened to be ruled by Cyrus's grandfather, Astyages. Persia paid the Medes for protection and to maintain a level of independence. Cyrus came into conflict with his grandfather and initiated a rebellion that ultimately succeeded in 550 BCE. Cyrus got victory over Astyages by building a city on the site of the battle and naming it Pasargadae, after his tribe. By defeating Astyages, Cyrus took on his role as ruler of what had been the Median Empire. Everyone who had been paying tribute to Astyages accepted Cyrus as their new ruler. In order to solidify his power, Cyrus had to find ways to bring lesser rulers under his control. His success earned Cyrus the title of "Cyrus the Great." (Empires, A.O., 2011). This paper reflects the pattern of Persian rule over the four corners of the world. This was the Warring States Period (475 – 221 BC) Qin Shi Huangdi, then known as Ying Zheng, was made ruler of the Qin district, and made many great changes to society. He created a fair military system, built one of the worlds most iconic national structures, and unified the warring states that would come to be known as China. He made all the laws the same throughout all the provinces and put all the houses into groups that were responsible for each other's wrongdoing. Qin's way of ruling was carried out for many dynasties after his death, and changed the way China was ruled forever. Qin Shi Huang was an exceptional leader, and made lots of things in China much better than they were; he stopped a war between the states and made the rule fair. Integrity– Integrity is the combination of inner core values and a person's external actions. An individual with high integrity will act the same externally as they feel on the inside. This type of person is trusted by employees because they do not waver from their core value system, even if at times it may be easier to do so. Special Agent D. Day who is currently a researcher at the Advanced Operational Art Studies, School of Advanced Military Studies feels that, "Good leaders have solid integrity to trust in their abilities, as well as those of their employees, to take ownership of a situation or problem regardless of how small, and to foster a team attitude. • 57. Alexander the Great: Strenghts and Weaknesses as a Person,... For centuries, Alexander the Great has held an eminent place in history. Arguably one of the greatest men the world has ever known, the Macedonian King accomplished many great feats in his short, but glorious life. During his reign, Alexander played several roles in the process of conquering the Persian empire, and in the assessment of his character, aspects of Alexander's capabilities of both strengths and weaknesses must be explored in him as a person, a statesman and a leader. Alexander was a complex, inscrutable man of passion and iron–will . The King possessed a keen intellect, with an ability to make quick decisions. He had supreme courage and excellent leadership skills , which contributed significantly to his greatness as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The King also had an erratic and dangerous temper, which was almost maniacal. Alexander often succumbed to the terrible and fervent outbursts of rage and to combine this with the influence of wine which he drank heavily, could lead to the most terrible of tragedies. The extreme instance of this is the death of Cleitus the Black, who was murdered by Alexander in a drunken fit of rage. Nonetheless, Plutarch and Arrian, claimed that Alexander's heavy drinking was merely and impression that developed from the King's long conversations with friends, and the lingering over his drink. It is particularly difficult to assess Alexander as a statesman, for his views as a statesman were in a state of flux when he died. His political creations were still in a developmental stage and had as yet take definite shape, but Alexander did display political wisdom by separating financial, civil and military power. One of his great achievements was his financial measure in reforming the coinage and bringing into line with each other the decimal currency of Persia with the duodecimal system of Macedonia. This was not only a great contribution to economic prosperity throughout the empire, but also impeded Athens as competition and involved her as a trading partner instead. Alexander also entertained a grandiose plan for uniting the East and the West in a world empire of racial equality. Unfortunately, this did not succeed as he planned. Some of these were so impressive and revolutionary that they are still used in battle today. Alexander had an advantage in war because he had learned the art of warfare from experts of many different cultures. He learned about engineering feats such as catapults, portable bridges, and siege towers and how to successfully negotiate for weapons, food, and other things required to have a successful army by studying with his father and his father's men (Martin, Blackwell, 10–11). Alexander was a very clever tactician and a great student of history (Martin, Blackwell, 84) For example, he perfected the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had he not conquered Persia and lands extending to Africa and India, the Greek culture might have just been localized to Greece (USHistory, 3), and the tremendous Greek influence we see in our society today would not be so prevalent and obvious (Freeman, 323). Alexander's conquests allowed new trade routes from the east to the west between Europe and Asia. This increased trade and also helped the spread of culture and religion (Clark, 2). Widespread use of the Greek language led to more development and appreciation of Greek art, philosophy, and drama (Clark, 1). The impact of Alexander's conquests was that Greek culture was spread over a vast area. This included their language, philosophy, artistic style, and architectural elements throughout the regions they now ruled (ConnectEd, 4). Alexander's conquest helped the spread of Christianity because the New Testament was written in Greek, and since most people of the region knew the common language of Greek, it was easy for the religious teachings to spread (Freeman, 327). One could make an argument that the Christian religion would not have succeeded in becoming widespread without the spread of Hellenistic culture. It would likely have remained a local phenomenon (Freeman, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Qualities Of A Great Leader Leadership. There are many who find themselves in the position of leadership within their place of work, but that doesn't always mean that they are effective as a leader. The success of a company can rely on whether or not those in management know how to instruct and direct others on their team. What are the true characteristics of a great leader? Great leaders have the ability to empower others, which will influence other people (Maxwell, 1997). Being a mentor is one very important quality of being a successful leader. This is not a new concept, but it is new to the company that I work for where they have now instituted a new mentorship program. Currently, I am being mentored by an Accounting Manager whom I chose for the following reasons. First, he has been with the company for over 25 years and understands the business, which includes the politics of the corporation and how to handle certain situations. Second, my knowledge of accounting is limited and he takes time to explain the company's financials. He has been an asset in guiding me in my professional career. Because of these managers and mentors, past and present as mentioned above, I have developed skills to help me lead others both personally and professionally. Leaders also have the ability to motivate others to achieve greatness. Often, lofty goals are set that are difficult for one person to accomplish alone. A true leader understands that they cannot take on the task alone. Therefore they need other like– minded individuals on their team in order to obtain the goal. According to Glick–Smith (2015), leaders are able to instill significance in others because they know they cannot tackle their obstacle without help. Understanding what gives that person on ... • 81. The Characteristics Of Great Leaders What separates leaders, especially mediocre ones from the great ones? What are the attributes and behaviors that great leaders display in order to influence people, to follow them and change the world? Great leaders are effective when they are trustworthy, empower others, and connect with their followers or the people they influence. Trust is the foundation of any great leader. 1) When Richard Nixon lost the trust of the American people he knew another bid for the Presidency was over.In the process, Nixon lost his identity as a leader and subsequently the respect and trust of the American people whom he had worked so diligently to gain. He and many other leaders like him attempted to isolate himself from the people of which he lead instinctively going into survival mode; denying the ultimate truth that success as a leader is impossible if attempted to go it alone. 2) Before Steve Jobs came back for his second amazing round at Apple, he lost the trust of the executives and John Sculley a power struggle ensued amongst them and Jobs was ousted from the very company he created. In the spring of 1985 Apple's board sided with the CEO, removing Jobs from his command of the Macintosh group. Trust is the foundation of every great leader. Trust with followers comes from the character of the leader. A great leader must have patience, integrity, confidence, and transparency. If one can win the trust of people, people will follow. Great leaders have the ability to solidify trust by empowering those willing to follow them. A great leader knows their team member's strengths and plays to these strengths by giving them task that they know will help the individual succeed as well as the overall team. 3) John C. Maxwell in his book 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says that, "a leader must give up in order to go up". No great leader accomplishes great things by themselves; it takes a team of people. Great leaders in order to win with people must have personable attributes to connect with the people following them. That isn't to say that everyone has to like the leader personally but the leader must be able to connect with the people following. 4) A prime example can be found in the 2008 primaries between Hillary Clinton and ... Oedipus Great Leader The Makings of Great and Terrible Leaders During these tough political times in America the question of what makes a leader great or terrible has been the topic of discussion for numerous people. This question, however, has been around for centuries. The Three Theban Plays by Sophocles features a play called Oedipus at Colonus in which Sophocles looks at that question and introduces several types of leaders to help readers conclude what makes a leader great or terrible. In the play, Oedipus arrives on holy ground on the outskirts of Athens with his daughter Antigone. What follows is a battle for where his body will be buried. Traits of a great leader can be seen in Theseus while traits of a bad leader can be found in Creon. Theseus is the king of Colonus, the place where Oedipus has arrived with his daughter Antigone. He is summoned because Oedipus and his daughter are standing on holy ground that is sacred to the Eumenides. One trait that makes Theseus a great leader is his kindness. This kindness can be seen when he says, "In the old days I often heard your legend, the bloody mutilation of your eyes. I know all about you, son of Laius...Tell me all. This particular war he did not have many soldiers compared to the Persians, but his superior tactics led him to victory. Alexander set up his army with cavalry in the middle with archers on both sides of that, and on the sides of the archers were soldiers on foot with non ranged weapons. This tactic is a great tactic because the archers can provide cover for soldiers or the calvary. Alexander had two other people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 133. Alexander The Great Was The Greatest War Leader, Genius,... Throughout history, Alexander III of Macedon, commonly referred to as Alexander the Great throughout history, has been thought of by many to be an enlightened thinker, multiculturalist, an ambitious, egotistical tyrant, and conqueror through evidence recorded, and passed along through generations. It is arguable, through evidence, that Alexander the Great was the most successful, greatest war leader, genius, and ruler there ever was. Many argue that he took over different pieces of land for the wrong reasons, and wanted to control the people in a way that a monarchy would. This may be due to his strategies that were not only were in his best interest, but also helped to accommodate others' needs, such as the commoners or citizens of different villages and towns he conquered over time. Other war generals and rulers, who lived during the same time period, or even past Alexander's reign, or death, copied and mimicked his strategies that he used with people of other countries that he had conquered, and during times of war and expansion of his empire. To this day, people still study his war strategies and how he thought. Alexander knew how to communicate with the people, and offer something in return to get what he had wanted. As a young boy at the age of 13, Alexander III of Macedon was tutored by Aristotle, a famous Greek philosopher, who was also in charge of Peripatetic school, in which his father hired. Aristotle lived from 384–322 BCE. Aristotle was taught by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 137. Siddhartha Gautama Was A Great Leader Siddhartha Gautama was the son of a king, pampered like a prince who abandoned the life of desire to pursue Enlightenment. When I lived in Nepal, I went to school and studied Buddhism. There I learned about his life and the philosophies he kept in practices. Also, I learned that he was a great leader, and his great ideas such as the Four Noble Truths, Eightfold path, Nirvana, fundamental wisdoms, the theory of karma and rebirth, the five precepts and Wheel of Dharma has influenced many people. I learned about his great achievement and how he was able to create a whole new religion, which is now known as the fourth largest religion in the world, by influencing people through his practices and philosophy. From this experience, I learned firsthand that he is a great religious leader who left a legacy not just on Nepalese culture, but on the whole world. The founder of Buddhism was a man named Siddhartha Gautama. He was born in Nepal, just where I was. To be more specific he was born in a prominent garden of Lumbini which soon rehabilitated to a place of pilgrimage. Even then it wasn't sure that he was really born in Lumbini, it was a predication. Some Buddhist from last some century had interrogated about the Siddhartha Gautama birth story, but sighting them on confident ground when it rises to the later history of Lumbini (Irons). This was proven by the memorial pillars there, which was created by Indian emperor Ashoka. • 141. Is Cyrus The Great Leader Or An Astounding Leader? Leaders come in many shapes and sizes. Cyrus the Great became an astounding leader because of the principles he learned in his childhood. He learned to give willingly, plan for his followers, and to have wisdom. Even as a child Cyrus knew how to be a great leader. Cyrus willingly gave to the people around him. He gave dishes of food to the people around his grandfather. "Whereupon, without more ado, the boy Cyrus took first one dish and then another and gave them to the attendants who stood around his grandfather..." (Xenophon 6). This shows how easily he handed out his food at his grandfather's dinner. Later, he gave many gifts to his friends and when they tried to return them he refused the offer. • 145. Alexander The Great : The Powerful Leader Of Alexander The... Alexander the Great was a powerful man from when he was a child, and he grew up to be one of the most powerful and courageous leaders of all time. He first demonstrated this strength and courage at the age of fourteen. Alexander was very fascinated when it came to horses and he watched the unsaddled horses gallop around. Not even the best riders were able to break in the horses. A horse was then brought in that no one, not even the mighty King Philip, Alexander's father, could master. The horse, Bucephalus, was bound to be the most famous horse in history. King Philip, with his temper, wanted to get rid of him, but Alexander said he could ride him and he did. From that day forward, Bucephalus was the horse Alexander rode in battle, and that was the day of his very first, but not last victory. Alexander the Great was one of the most powerful and strong leaders of all time who conquered most of the ancient world, built a city in his name, and managed to always put his people first. "Alexander learned early in his youth that he was Crown Prince, and that some day he would inherit the Macedonian throne." From the beginning, he had a very determined streak. When he was twelve years old a courier let Alexander know that his father had been victorious in a huge battle and Alexander complained that there was not going to be any battles for him to win. He was not very fond of sports, even though he was quite good at them; he did however, enjoy hunting. Alexander had many other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part of the reason that the idea of great leaders being born is appealing is that a great leader is so hard to define. It can be discussed what great leaders do and how they act. Sometimes all we are good at though is identifying who a great leader is outside of ourselves. It is difficult to answer the question "Why aren't you a great leader?". The initial reaction would most commonly be that you just aren't. It seems that you weren't meant to be. With that the idea that great leaders are born to be that way seems appealing. If we look at history many great leaders came seemingly out of nowhere. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln did not need to attend leadership seminars to lead the nation. With all that is done for leadership nowadays and the mixed results, it seems that there is something intrinsic that great leaders have. Many companies focus their efforts on trying to develop leaders from within the company to fill critical roles. Many times though there is a leadership talent gap from where the company would like the given leader to be and where he or she actually is. A lot of what is attributed to a leader begin great is luck. To be truly great the leader usually is presented with a monumental opportunity to lead in the face of adversity. The leader is lucky to have come upon this situation and be given the chance to rise to the occasion. By capitalizing on this lucky situation the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McNeal says, "Great leaders know how to make decisions, when to make decisions, and what decisions need to be made." Good leaders are also asking and spending their limited time on the right questions. The discipline of belonging is covered in chapter six. Great leaders maintain significant relationships; even though they take time an effort. On the contrary, chapter seven talks about the discipline of aloneness. One fact of leadership is that there will be times that are secluded from others. A leader must choose to set aside alone time to emotional and spiritual challenges of life. Great spiritual leadership is an accumulation of multiple disciplines and practices. Leaders have an option as to whether or not they choose greatness. Concrete Response Each one of these disciplines prompts my memory to various stories and experiences in my life. I can see how each one has shaped and molded me into the leader that I am today. One story in particular came to mind as I was reading the chapter on self–development. I have always been a learner and a reader. I have listened to podcast, sermons, and others forms of self–education all of my life. However, for over twelve years, for some reason, I have run from formal education in ministry. I obtained an associate degree in nursing at an early age. I worked for a short few years as a nurse and then started working full time in ministry. I knew the work and ...
