Jurassic Park was created by rich men and visionary scientists. The base thought for the park itself is
unbelievable and achievable all together in one crazy idea. The park itself is off the coast of Costa
Rica, on an island called Isla Nublar. We are able to see that in just a few short years, with the
money and drive from InGen and its founder, John Hammond, Dr. Henry Wu, chief geneticist, is

new concept and a controversial one at that. Many scholars have very strong opinions on this topic.

"Patent thicket" is the term used by Calfee when describing the phenomena of patents hindering
research (444). In his essay, he dedicates a number of paragraphs to this trend and elaborates on his
opinion that gene patenting does not in any way hinder research. The first piece of evidence used by
the former AEI scholar is an account where NAS conducted two surveys and both found a very
minimal amount of evidence that pointed to patents hindering researchers (444), and from this he
found out that researches hardly ever fret over whether or not a gene has a patent on it (445). In
addition to talking about whether or not a patent halts research, he also discusses price. He addresses
that gene patented tests are expensive, something both him and Crichton agree on, but also says that
there is no difference in price compared to tests for genes that do not have patents on them (Calfee
445). This may be true in some cases, but Crichton brings up a defense for that statement and
references a test for breast cancer that would be one thousand dollars but instead costs three

The turning point in both the movie and the book is when the storm comes. A huge hurricane is
going to hit the island dead on. There is nothing the people could do except wait it through. The
storm is more massive then anyone expected and it knocks out the power to the whole island. This is

Jurassic Park there are a substantial amount of similarities. Especially in those of the characters,
from both the film and novel. The character Alan Grant from the novel Jurassic Park closely
resembles the character Owen Grady from Jurassic World. Such things include, the jobs both
character have in their designated film or novel and also the dinosaurs they are involved with. The
theme both these characters convey throughout either the novel or film is the will to survive in
dangerous situations. In the film, Jurassic World presented by Universal Studios one of the main
characters Owen Grant, is a dinosaur researcher who is employed by Jurassic World. Owen Grand,
portraits a self– willed and confident character in the film. One thing that makes Owen standout
from all the other characters is his will to connect with the dinosaurs almost as like a family. This
can clearly be shown in the film when he's training the raptors Blue, Charlie, and Delta. The
compassion towards the raptor's sets him apart from most characters in the film because he

The first bird is debated to be the Archaeopteryx, discovered in Germany, believed to be 145 million

escaped from Isla Nublar (the island that Jurassic Park was built on). Dr. Grant drew this conclusion
because he had been previously told by Dr. Henry Wu that he had altered the dinosaurs' DNA so that
they could not produce lysine themselves. Dr. Henry Wu did this for two reasons. The first reason
was that the animals would be dependent on their Jurassic Park caretakers for specifically lysine–
rich food. The second reason was that only the creators of these dinosaurs would know what they
lacked and they planned to sell branded food to people who might adopt miniaturized versions of the
dinosaurs. In this way, they could maximize the profits they made off of their creation. But when the
dinosaurs escaped, they needed to find a source of lysine to compensate for what they lacked.
