One of the many good things MTV has done is serve as the voice of youth in today's society. Demographic groups such as young African Americans

Jersey Shore Summer is the pinnacle of almost every American's vacation time. Warm weather, beaches, Fourth of July, and summer parties. This might
not be the reality of most American's summer, but it is for the cast of "Jersey Shore." Jersey Shore is a reality television show, which was aired by MTV
(Music Television) from 2009 to 2012, and showcased a group of six roommates and the time they spend together in the "Shore House" located in

Sociology: Sexual Objectification of Women in Music Videos...
The Research Problem This study works to examine the use of sexual objectification of women in music videos today. The primary purpose was to
examine the differences between genres, specifically hip–hop and country. I tested the following; Women are more likely to be sexualized in hip–hop
music videos than in country music videos.
Literature Review Since the explosion of music videos in 1981, a large portion of their popularity has been due to the objectification of women and
their sexuality. "Early content analyses showed that anywhere from 40% to 75% of music videos contained sexual imagery"(Arnett, 2002). Hip–hop

Videos not containing a female were accounted for and removed from the sample pool, leaving a total of 50 (25 hip–hop, 25 country) videos used for
the final analysis.
Data Collection Sexual objection and non–sexual objectification were mainly measured in body exposure and body movements. The different areas of
a woman's body being displayed were used to operationalize the idea of sexual objectification. Similarly, camera angles such as panning down bodies
and shots down shirts were tallied to create a solid definition of "sexualizing" for the purpose of this research. (see Appendix A and B) Each video was
watched twice, to ensure that no characteristics were missed. Videos were analyzed through the use of sexual characteristics and non–sexual
characteristics tally sheets. When a specific characteristic was present it would only be marked down once per video. Because the focus of this
research was on sexualization of women, only females were identified and coded.
Justification of Research Method The strategy of secondary analysis was chosen for this research because it is cheap and timely in comparison to
other forms of research. Using data collected by other reliable sources increases the validity of secondary data analysis research.
Findings
Data Analysis from the 50 music video sample showed that hip–hip music videos sexually objectified women more in comparison to country music

than high moral standards. A lot of shows which need to be cancelled portray and teach a lot of bad behaviors. Although these reality TV shows
may make us laugh or even amaze us with its characters, who are bad influences to the society especially children. These shows gives us a picture
of how people are drastically driven by the love of money, fame and riches instead of the power of love of people for each other. The indecent and

It was a way to just sit there and sort of zone out and forget the troubles of the day. However, now more and more people are sitting down at night
and watching reality television shows. Reality television shows are less relaxing than the sitcoms people use to watch. They involve the audience
more, such as with voting for your favorite contestant on "American Idol" or getting angry or upset with a person for something they have done to
your favorite person on "Survivor". Whether it is physically or emotionally involved, when people are watching reality television they are definitely
involved. So since the introduction of reality television people have started watching more reality TV and less sitcoms because most people prefer to
be involved in their TV shows rather than just watch them. One negative effect that reality television can have on people is deceptive view of reality.
Such as kids who watch shows like Jersey Shore which can lead them to believe life is one big party. MSN Encarta defines reality TV as "television
programs that present real people in live, though often deliberately manufactured, situations and monitor their emotions and behavior." Which means

Music composed for television generate another realm of modes and codes that differ even from the coding within film. Television has the opportunity
to utilise music as an instrument for supporting narratives within television series and as means for marketing through commercials. Blaine Allan,
explores the relationship between music and television within his journal article, Music Cinema, Music Video, Music Television. The main focal point
of this resource is the function of visual aspects within the introduction of music videos. However, Blaine Allan does include an interesting insight into

Analyzing The Video 'The Gadget Lover'
Humanity currently lives in a digital society. Over the past century, humans have grown accustomed to observing the world through screens. However,
as Marshall McLuhan points out in "The Gadget Lover", there is a dissonance between a person's existence onscreen and a person's existence in
reality. People become attached to mere representations of reality rather than reality itself, much like how the character of Narcissus falls in love with

This world even has noticeable "characters", such the man picking up left–over litter from the off–campus housing event or the two people who sat on
the bench talking for hours. This world is real and relatable, but the video is purposely edited to make it seem artificial. The viewer is supposed to
feel isolated but still related to the world, which I attempted to enforce by taking pictures at different angles rather than using a tripod. If the video
were completely still, the observer behind the camera would not be a human character. Rather, the video would just feel like watching security camera
footage, and the viewer would likely not feel a connection to anything going on below. Adding the jerky camera movements enforces that the viewer is
supposed to feel negative emotions for being left out, and adding cross–fade transitions between the time–spans with no footage only continues to
disconnect the viewer from the realistic "world" of the MUSC atrium. The video enforces that a person's perception of reality is very different than a
person's perception of technology. When watching a video, a person can accept that large spans of time may not be seen, although in reality a person
is alive as every minute passes him or her by. There is no fast–forward button for reality. However, we still use technology to become observers who
ignore time and space. When people use the internet , they can avoid their own problems by avoiding being participants altogether. They can also
choose new avatars and participate in the creation of new worlds where there are minimal consequences for illicit behaviour, which leads to the creation
of multimedia. They use technology as the real world appears to pass them by, and the video reflects this idea by condensing 15 hours down to 50

The Theme Of Empathy And Fear In Ruthless
In many stories, parallels to the real world can be seen. This is a way to connect the reader to characters or situations in the novel, making a false
story seem more realistic. In the book Ruthless by Carolyn Lee Adams, a 17 year old girl named Ruth was kidnapped by a man named Jerry. He
took Ruth to the woods and though she managed to escape him, she still remained lost in the woods with no way to get home. With Jerry at her heels,
she plotted ways to escape the woods, but that didn't stop the fear of being recaptured to continue to loom over her. The growing lack of empathy and
fear throughout Ruthless, are two real world concepts that were incorporated into this novel as a parallel to our society.
The fear that Ruth feels throughout the story resembles the fear that many people feel due to terrorist attacks today. In the story, Ruth is in
constant fear for her life because she is lost in the woods with a man that wants to kill her. While struggling to figure out how she was going to
escape the woods, Ruth expressed, "All I have now is rage. But somewhere, hiding underneath it, is fear (Adams 84)." Ruth still feels fear because
even though she escaped Jerry's captivity, she's still lost in the woods, and and she knows there's a very good chance of him finding her and killing
her as he planned. Similar to the fear portrayed in the book, many people today have a fear of terrorism. An article on hate crimes against Muslims
states, "Incidents targeting Muslims increased each of the last several years after fluctuating for a decade following a strong spike in the wake of the
Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.(1)" According to statistics, hate crimes against Muslims were very low prior to 9/11, but they reached an all time high
once the attacks took place. In the years that followed, the hate crimes kept a common trend of occurring about 5–6 times as much as they had before 9
/11. The fact that Muslims went from hardly being attacked before the attacks to having almost 500 hate crimes against them in 2001, showed that
many of their attackers were motivated by their fear of more potential attacks.

The beginning of music television received a great contribution from an Australian television shows called "Countdown" and "Sounds" which were
both premiered in 1974. They helped make music videos popular in many countries. The director of "Countdown" also created the first music video to
ever be air on MTV called "Video Killed The Radio Star" in 1981. That influenced them to create a 24 hour a day music channel. During the 1980s
