Introduction.
The World Wide Web (WWW) also known as the Internet is a system of servers specifically for the Internet to support specially created documents.
These documents are created also specifically for the internet in a mark–up language called HTML also know as Hyper Text Mark–up Language that
supports links to other documents, graphics and audio/video files. This means you can go from one document to another by clicking on the links in the
documents which with the World Wide Webthey can be anywhere in the world.
There are many programs called web browser that make so called surfing the web simple, smooth and easy to access as it is why it is called surfing the
web.
Past of the World Wide Web.
The World Wide Webs was actually first developed as a tool for collaboration in the high energy physics community. After this it went on to other areas
and grew to its huge current size.
As it made ease of accessing information it has been a great accomplishment, and this has meant many areas have taken advantage of it.
The very first suggestion for the World Wide Web system was made in 1989 at CERN by Tim Berners Lee also currently know as the World Wide
Webs inventor. The end of the 1990s, prototype software for a simple system was already being demonstrated.
To support the implementation of the system, it was important to offer access to existing information without having to convert it to an unfamiliar

###What are UPS Stores?
UPS stores are UPS locations that offer standard UPS mailing, packaging and shipping services, as well as quick office solutions for businesses.
Although some UPS stores are located together with UPS customer centers and UPS drop boxes, many function independently acting like small
offices for companies. There are over 4,500 UPS stores in the U.S and in Canada. A UPS store will not only be able to assist you with domestic and
international mail and package delivery, but will also provide practical office help, such as sending faxes, digital printing, computer access, document
shredding, photography and design services, notary services and office supplies, as well as business management assistance. A business owner on...

Out of many types of UPS locations, UPS stores are the most comprehensive service providers offering a wide scope of packing, mailing and
printing services, as well as small business tips for companies. A company can open a UPS account and manage tracking of ground and freight
packages online while handling the packing and the shipments at UPS stores. The practical aspect of a UPS store is that, along with mail services, a
business can use it as a one–stop shop for administrative work. For example, many UPS stores provide tax and business forms, as well as printing of
various office materials like business cards, brochures, catalogs, manuals, invitations and 3D printing. Since many UPS stores are franchised, they are
adapted to provide accounting, human resources, financial and communication services for businesses, and help them with marketing and IT support.
The type of service customers will be able to get from a particular UPS store depends on the existing facilities of the specific location. While standard
UPS services are provided at most UPS store locations, it is worth using the online UPS locator to check the availability of a service in a particular area.
###Commonly asked questions (and answers) about UPS Stores:
Q: How long for can I leave my package in a UPS store free of charge?

Many businesses also conduct retail operations online.
An intranet is a computer network that uses Internet Protocol technology to securely share any part of an organization's information or network
operating system within that organization. The term is used in contrast to internet, a network between organizations, and instead refers to a network
within an organization. Sometimes the term refers only to the organization's internal website, but may be a more extensive part of the organization's
information technology infrastructure. Organizations often use internet technologies to facilitate operations within the organization. Such systems
might also include product support knowledge bases, training systems, and access to the organization's benefits system.
An extranet is a computer network that allows controlled access from the outside, for specific business or educational purposes. An extranet can be
viewed as an extension of a company's intranet that is extended to users outside the company, usually partners, vendors, and suppliers. It has also been
described as a "state of mind" in which the Internet is perceived as a way to do business with a selected set of other companies (business–to–business,
B2B), in isolation from all other Internet users. Organizations may use these same internet technologies to connect with their business partners to

A Career In Civic Engagement
After high school I struggled through numerous retail jobs. As fate would have it however, my wife would introduce me to someone who worked with
the Chicago Public Library. I was able to land a job as a CyberNavigator, assisting patrons with technological issues and promoting digital literacy.
During my time as a CyberNavigator, I worked in numerous underprivileged communities where I spent most of my time helping patrons find jobs
online or applying for financial assistance through the government websites. Connecting with numerous organizations in the community, I established
my library as a center in the community where patrons could actively come to find assistance on a number of digital literacy issues. I finally felt a

James Cash Penny and His Department Stores
HISTORY : In 1902, James Cash Penney, in partnership with two other associates, opened the Golden Rule Store in Kemmerer, Wyoming. At the time
it was uncommon to charge the same price to each and every customer; however, Penney preached the slogan "one price charged to all," regardless of
customers' social status. After buying out his partners (in 1907), Mr. Penney opened two more stores. At present, J.C. Penney has more then 1400
department stores in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico, making it one of the largest retailers in the world.

OVERALL SUMMARY 1) JC Penney should conduct an experimental research in order to enhance its performance in the future.
2) JC Penney's most immediate goal is to maintain its present customer base and to attract new clients. They can do so by introducing higher–scale
brands to their stores in order to attract another category of customers, in other words, customers who are drawn to premium brands. Therefore, JC
Penney's brand image will be enhanced; its reputation will be improved. Introducing premium products, and attracting customers who have higher
purchasing power will bring in higher revenues to the company.
3) JC Penney can also widen its target market and introduce a line for teens. Another approach JC Penney can use is by being more attentive to
customer needs.
4) They should improve customer service and develop a user–friendlier web site that will enable customers to purchase online more easily or get better

the music industry will look at this as a blessing in disguise for the underground labels. Looking at this in the short–term of things, downloading music
could hurt the music industry and their profits. However, later down the line, it will eventually benefit them. In a study done by Ipsos–Reid, it shows
that 81% of the public that download music, often spend at least the same on records or even more than they did before downloading music from the

try to realize that the ideas behind free downloads can benefit them. They should do what they can to market more from it, rather than turning their
noses up at the technology behind it. They should realize that they waste more money on fighting the sites that offer free downloads and lobbing
Congress to stop the downloading, they should build a system in which all music is readily available free. Making sites with easy to follow links to

Introduction Of Internet Based Procurement Essay
The term e–procurement gained popularity around the year 2000. Emergence of the two competitors Ariba and Commerce One, companies that
specialized in the support of electronic procurement for MRO products, changed the way indirect MRO spend used to be looked upon. Introduction of
internet–based procurement applications prompted a change from a centrally organized procurement (central buying) department to 'desktop
procurement' environment, where the employee in need of a product would initiate the purchase transaction electronically. With these two trends,
'decentralized purchasing' and 'multi–vendor catalogues', the conduit toward electronic support of the MRO buying process was paved. Thus, over the
period, spend analysts have started observing carefully, to increase spend under management and implement better control over tail spend in order to
reduce the amount of fulfilling formalities and time consumed in procuring these products.
Understanding E–Procurement in the MRO space
With the advent of Internet technology in the area of MRO, the procurement of indirect material such as office supplies and services also became
feasible for electronic support. Indirect procurement is based on ad–hoc activities which are difficult to put into an electronically supported workflow.
Since the products needed in this area are less frequently bought and usually of low value, companies shy away from maintaining material master data
for indirect products. The study of Subramaniam and

transactions that involve money. The larger concept of e–business, however, goes well beyond buying and selling items on the
Internet. E–business is about using information, technology, and resources to conduct business online. The processes of marketing your goods and

revenue in 1998. A company may expect to receive more than 50 percent of all revenues viae–commerce in the next two to three years (Richter, 48).
The core of e– commerce is between businesses, and this segment is thriving. Business–to–business e–commerce makes up the largest portion of
Internet commerce, with sales totaling $8 billion in 1997, according to Forrester Research, a market–research firm in Cambridge,
MA (McCollum, 34). Small business owners identified their websites as one of the most effective tools for generating interest in their small businesses
(13%), better than direct mail, radio, television and telemarketing. Only word of mouth (25%) and newspapers (15%) were considered more effective
(Providence Business News, 19B). One increasingly popular approach is to offer ?all–in–one? e–commerce packages, in which merchants pay a
nominal monthly fee for software that enables them to build a site that is then hosted by a third party (website hosts) ? sparing the client the cost of
Web servers and fast
Internet connections. For $100 a month, digital entrepreneurs can post their store on
Yahoo?s site and offer as many as 50 products for sale. The more products offered for sale, the higher Yahoo?s monthly fee. Yahoo offers a host of
additional features. It aggregates orders and sends them via fax to the store owner for processing, encrypts credit card numbers during

Persuasive Messages Paper
The new advances in technology allow businesses to reach different customer bases. This includes buying and selling products over the Internet. The
online shopping process is considered e–commerce. E–commerce is made up of different behaviors but for the purpose of this discussion the three
discussed are consumer–to–consumer (C2C), business–to–business (B2B), and consumer–to–business (C2B). The different behaviors have different
mediums to reach their targeted audience. The message for each behavior persuades a particular audience to purchase a product using that particular
medium. Consumers and businesses look to the web for cost–effective ways to sell and buy products.

Business–to–business transactions are based on maintaining a good relationship with the customers because these are repeat transactions.
The last behavior is consumer–to–business (C2B) is a transaction that the consumers offer products to companies and the companies compensate them
(WebFinance Inc, 2010). Individuals with access to increased technology can request products from companies at a decreased cost. Priceline gives the
consumers control of naming a price they are willing to pay. The business determines if they have a product in the proposed price the consumer
submits. The consumer–to–business model is a complete reversal of traditional business practices where companies offer the product and prices and
customers purchase the products. Consumers look for opportunities to purchase products that they can name their own price and Priceline provides that
luxury. The consumer needs to have computer access, set up an account, and a credit card.
The consumer is the sender in this behavior model by sending the recipient (Priceline) the price range they want the trip to cost. Priceline uses their
online resources to find the consumer the best rates or negotiate with companies on consumers behalf. Technology allows Priceline to tap into various
travel agencies to package the best deals for their customers. Some

Encryption Vs. Encryption Algorithm

The message to be stored in the database is converted to cipher text using encryption algorithm and key. The resulting cipher text is then saved in
database. When the user needs to get the actual message, he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are
generated in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the choice of encryption algorithm, key size
and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data.
There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms and through Hashing. Different encryptions based
on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128, AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value usinghash
function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared with the encrypted password stored in the
database. If the result varies, then an invalid username/password is entered. Hash functions commonly in use are MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA–1[13].

Why Public Libraries Matter: And How They Can Do More
The Future of Libraries Technology advancements have become a severe threat to libraries all around the globe. Due to the uprise of technology
utilization within the past decade, public libraries have been losing patrons exponentially. Factors such as social media, gaming systems, Netflix, and
Internet surfing have been providing a large majority entertainment for the population today, which causes books to be "boring" to the newest
generations of people. The obstacles that libraries must overcome in order to keep consumers interested in books has become extraordinary.
Therefore, some communities are considering modernizing libraries to gain back the interest of the public. "Why Public Libraries Matter: And How
They Can Do More" by David Vinjamuri demonstrates the dedication that librarians have toward benefitting their patrons. The goal of libraries has
always been simple; to supply easy access to information and to establish a center where the community can read stories as a leisurely activity. As the

Thousands of these readings are either cheap or free and can be obtained within the comfort of one's home. The convenience that eBooks preserve

American Library Association, reintroduced the Digital Library of America project of 2010. The purpose of the digital library would be to establish
a central location where readers can access a public domain and an organized online catalog that includes both full text and copyrighted material. A

As a dealer in jewelry products, Tiffany & Co. gets its raw materials from mines and various suppliers of the minerals the company needs. It is
reported that, owing to its concern for the environment and welfare of miners, Tiffany & Co. gets all its diamonds from mines that are and from
credible suppliers (Hower, n.p). This is in line with the company's corporate social responsibility. Tiffany & Co. gets much of its raw materials directly
from the countries where the mines are produced. For instance, the company gets its diamond from diamond–producing countries such as South Africa,
Botswana, Australia, Canada, Russia, Namibia, Russia, and Sierra Leone (Annual Report, n.p).

E-Commerce and Sales Tax
E–Commerce and Sales Tax
5/2/2012
Throughout the country, states are not collecting some or any taxes on online transactions. This debate has been brought to Congress, state, and local
governments as to whether taxes should be imposed on online transactions as well as who should standardize online taxing. Research shows that the
estimated revenue losses in excess of $60 billion alone from online transactions. This number is only to grow with increased use of ecommerce.
(McClure 2000)

Alternatively, use taxes are often not collected by the vendor if the vendor does not have nexus (loosely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second option is unlikely without action by the states and local governments to simplify and harmonize their tax regimes under SSTP. Both
approaches have their supporters and naysayers. (Maguire 2005)
Opponents of such taxation emphasize that electronic commerce does, generate substantial revenue for state and local governments from a variety of
tax sources, including business and personal income taxes, and that additional tax revenue is hardly needed at a time when the economy is booming
and most state government budgets are met. They feel competition between the nation's state and local tax jurisdictions helps hold tax rates down to
their cost–effective minimum. If one state or city imposes a sales tax rate that is too high in relation to public services those taxes help finance, its tax
base will shrink as businesses and consumers move to other jurisdictions with lower taxes and better roads and schools. However moving is costly.
The ability to avoid high local taxes by making purchases over the Internet or through mail–order catalogs supplies an alternative margin of competition
that forces governments to be more fiscally responsible. (Kemp 2000)
While local retailers are then at a competitive disadvantage, internet retailers have a disadvantage of their own in the form of the shipping and handling
charges their customers must pay. Local retailers then can

I. Introduction
Freeman Dyson has said, "Technology is a gift of God, after the gift of life; it is perhaps the greatest of God's gift. It is the monitor civilizations of arts
and sciences". With technology, they can get things done precisely, efficiently and fast. Wireless communication devices keep you connected wherever
you go. These things were developed due to greater inventions and creativity of their designers. But on the other hand, there are still places or
institutions that have a slow growth of development when it comes to advancement of technology. And one of these that caught the proponent's
attention is the library.
Years ago, every library used paper based catalogs for finding books,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Economic approaches to the question have centered around the value, in economic terms, of privacy, both in its role in the information needed for
efficient markets and in the value of information as a piece of property. Sociological approaches to the study of privacy have emphasized the ways in
which the collection and use of personal information have reflected and reinforced the relationships of power and influence between individuals,

ENGAGING PRIV ACY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN A DIGITAL AGE
Key to any discussion of privacy is a clear specification of what is at stake (what is being kept private) and the parties against which privacy is
being invoked (who should not be privy to the information being kept private). For example, one notion of privacy involves confidentiality or secrecy
of some specific information, such as preventing disclosure of an individual's library records to the government or to one's employer or parents. A
second notion of privacy involves anonymity, as reflected

LITERATURE REVIEW
The research question "what impact can librarians and libraries have on the decline in older children and teen recreational reading" can be broken
down to discuss several subtopics. This literature review examines peer–reviewed material to provide a basis for the research questions discussed
within this study. The review of the literature is divided into four subtopics that were studied using different theories and approaches in an effort to
answer the research question. In an effort to address what librarians and libraries can do to have an impact on recreational reading amongst adolescents,
I reviewed literature pertaining to several subjects. The subtopic literature that was analyzed addresses reading decline factors between the ages of
twelve through seventeen, what motives this age group, outreach and library programs, and the impact of recreational reading.
Teens and pleasure reading
Researchers have consistently found that pleasure reading increases throughout childhood and begins to decline, usually at age twelve to thirteen.
Few researchers have explored the specific reasons for this decline from the perspective of teens themselves, and fewer still have explored the role
that reading for pleasure plays in the lives of young teens. Our understanding of teen pleasure reading sums greater importance as public libraries
focus simultaneously on improving services to teen patrons and to pleasure readers of all ages as key to strategies to

Internet Censorship & Libraries Essay
Libaries across the nation are in a dilemma, should they filter what information is available to it's visitors via the Internet? This scenario is being
debated all across the United States. Many states are arguing over whether or not the library has the authority to limit what information is accessible via
the Internet computers at the library. The argument is over theFirst Amendment right of Free Speech. There are family groups who are actually in favor
of allowing unfiltered access on the Internet, not what one would think. These groups also support the notion of parents being with their children while

Public access to the Internet is available at over 50% of the public libraries in the United States. Library patrons can access the limitless information
available that the Internet offers. With this many libraries allowing access and many more each day adding access a new dilemma has been created.
The dilemma is to support the American Library Associations Bill of Rights and the First Amendment Right of Free Speech or tolimit access to the
Internet by censoring or blocking out undesirable information, and thus going against the right of free speech. On July 2, 1997 the American Library
Association (ALA) adopted a resolution affirming that "the use of filtering software by libraries to block access to constitutionally protected speech
violated the Library Bill of Rights." An earlier statment by the ALA titled "Access to Electronic Information, Services and Networks" in January of
1996 stated "users should not be restricted or denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally protected speech."
One would think that this would resolve the libraries dilemma, it did not. Public libraries must answer to boards, parents and their constituencies and
therefore this group of people must support this decision as well. Libraries have constitutional support as well as professional sanction for open Internet
access. Each library must wrestle with

To conduct quantitative research, the first step is defining the problem, identifying the objectives and goals, and establishing research questions or
hypothesis. It is followed by data collection and analysis with the application of various numerical and statistical approaches. Quantitative research is
more factual in terms that we get concrete data with evidence to prove the results of our research.
Qualitative Research
According to Kothari (2008) qualitative research is concerned with qualitative phenomena which are related to or involve quality or kind. Qualitative
research engages the collection and analysis of non–numerical data obtained from experiments, interviews, observations, and other resources involving
statements and arguments. Research is conducted into particular context and non–numerical interpretive approach is used to produce narrative
description of research data. Unlike quantitative research, this type of research considers the underlying facts behind the establishment of particular
behaviors and assumptions. It is commonly used in behavioural sciences where the aim of research is to discover underlying motives of human
behaviour.
This study will use quantitative methods of research. The major advantage of using quantitative research design is that it is an exceptional method for

The Freedom Of Speech And The Internet
Lastly, the plan contains a plethora of new regulations that will dampen investment and innovation for a faster, newer broadband networks and

from slowing or blocking internet traffic and will help maintain a free, open internet that respects the First Amendment, the freedom of speech. (Bedard

History, Philosophy And Miscellaneous Works
Literature Review
Libraries have a long history towards the ancient world as places used to keep important records such as clay tablets, transcripts and many texts.
Many records were destroyed in the course of wars or purposely by some rulers with the changes in government. As a result, writing of literature as
well as record keeping was encouraged where classification schemes were initiated to preserve those records of all times. The first formal classification
was categorizing the writings into four types, the classics, history, philosophy and miscellaneous works. (Library, 2016). However, these broad
categories didn't help much in guiding to access the increasing collection. The result was, introducing Dewey Decimal Classification as a scheme for the
classification of the documents/ materials. (Library, 2016).
Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC)
DDC was an invention of Melvil Dewey in 1876. He was an Assistant Librarian at Amherst College when he published DDC as "A Classification
and subject index for cataloging and arranging the books pamphlets of a library". (Yoon, J. 2014). The system was formulated to organize the
contents of the library based on the subject areas divided into 10 main groups where each group is given 100 numbers. For example, Religion belongs
in 200 – 299. (DDC, 2016). This numerical classification gives identification for the item as well as a location tool which ensures the books under the
same subject are kept together in a common area. (Wiercioch,

The first few weeks of our project were spent assessing the current procurement situation within UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services. We worked
very closely with our stakeholder to gain an understanding of how products are purchased, and quickly decided that our project would focus on office
supplies because they are frequently purchased and widely used, and because there are not strict regulations regarding what kinds of products can be
purchased/used (as there are for chemical cleaning supplies, for example).
Additionally, we performed background research and analyzed the current University of California Sustainability Practices Policy as well as past
UCLA Housing purchasing data. Our findings were surprising. We found that the current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking all of this into consideration, we came up with the initial project idea of creating our own set of comprehensiveprocurement guidelines. These
would be quantified, clear, and concise. However, we soon found that this project would be logistically difficult to complete and implement, given our
resources and timeline. We also realized that the current guidelines are already available to UCLA staff, who, as the survey data indicated, are largely
unaware of them. For this reason, simply updating the existing guidelines would have likely had little effect in changing purchasing behavior. The need
for an educational component quickly became apparent – indeed, nearly 50% of survey participants identified a lack of awareness/knowledge of
sustainable products as the biggest obstacle to the sustainable procurement of office supplies at UCLA.
We delved deeper into the current procurement system, learning that the UC System is contracted with OfficeMax and that it uses an interface known
as BruinBuy to make purchases. We thus decided to use the OfficeMax Green Office catalog (available to the public online) to compile a product
recommendation list. We also made general plans to incorporate this list into an education program set to take place during Spring

Marketing Communication Campaign Plan For Laura Ashley,...
Executive Summary
Laura Ashley, Inc. is the "Quintessential English" lifestyle brand with over 63 years of heritage. The company was founded in 1953 by the husband
and wife team of Bernard and Laura Ashley with the printing of small runs of headscarves, napkins, table mats and tea towels. Today the company
strives to be the ultimate destination brand for women's wear, and children's wear and home furnishings. In recent years sales have been sluggish and
the brand is not as relevant and popular as once was during their 70's and 80's "hay days". As a result, there's a need to adapt to change in new
technology and the purchasing habits of the millennials generation of consumers. This report will provide an Integrated Marketing Communication
Campaign Plan for Laura Ashley, Inc. that will create an opportunity to increase sales and capture new customers among the target audience. Our target
market is female consumers between the ages 23–29. To better build our business we have developed a marketing campaign to attract the attention and
interest of that age group and appeal to our existing customers through various communication channels.
Introduction The ever changing market place requires constant interaction and communication with consumers. In doing so, it will be important for
Laura Ashley to release an impactful and relevant campaign that speaks directly to the target audience. This campaign will consist of a full integration
of marketing. It will have one message

Introduction of internet–based procurement applications prompted a change from a centrally organized procurement (central buying) department to 'desktop procurement' environment, where the employee in need of a product would initiate the purchase transaction electronically. The resulting cipher text is then saved in database. When the user needs to get the actual message, he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are generated in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the choice of encryption algorithm, key size and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data. There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms and through Hashing. Different encryptions based on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128, AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value usinghash function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared with the encrypted password stored in the database. They feel competition between the nation's state and local tax jurisdictions helps hold tax rates down to their cost–effective minimum. Sociological approaches to the study of privacy have emphasized the ways in which the collection and use of personal information have reflected and reinforced the relationships of power and influence between individuals, groups, and institutions within society. For example, one notion of privacy involves confidentiality or secrecy of some specific information, such as preventing disclosure of an individual's library records to the government or to one's employer or parents. • 34. What Impact Can Librarians And Libraries Have On The... LITERATURE REVIEW The research question "what impact can librarians and libraries have on the decline in older children and teen recreational reading" can be broken down to discuss several subtopics. This literature review examines peer–reviewed material to provide a basis for the research questions discussed within this study. The review of the literature is divided into four subtopics that were studied using different theories and approaches in an effort to answer the research question. In an effort to address what librarians and libraries can do to have an impact on recreational reading amongst adolescents, I reviewed literature pertaining to several subjects. The subtopic literature that was analyzed addresses reading decline factors between the ages of twelve through seventeen, what motives this age group, outreach and library programs, and the impact of recreational reading. Teens and pleasure reading Researchers have consistently found that pleasure reading increases throughout childhood and begins to decline, usually at age twelve to thirteen. Few researchers have explored the specific reasons for this decline from the perspective of teens themselves, and fewer still have explored the role that reading for pleasure plays in the lives of young teens. Our understanding of teen pleasure reading sums greater importance as public libraries focus simultaneously on improving services to teen patrons and to pleasure readers of all ages as key to strategies to ... In conclusion, Breeding advised libraries to take a responsible outlook on digital preservation and examined the influence digital preservation will have in the print catalog. After reading chapters 9, 10, and 11, I believe the librarian profession will evolve to meet the demands of the public and technology. Also, I think technological advancements will enhance the role of the librarians. With the advent of new technology, the quality and the accessibility of information will only improve. Lastly, changes in technology and how libraries organize and collect data will have a positive impact on the library field. Arthur, M.A. & Dotson, L. (2009). • 36. Internet Censorship & Libraries Essay Libaries across the nation are in a dilemma, should they filter what information is available to it's visitors via the Internet? This scenario is being debated all across the United States. Many states are arguing over whether or not the library has the authority to limit what information is accessible via the Internet computers at the library. The argument is over theFirst Amendment right of Free Speech. There are family groups who are actually in favor of allowing unfiltered access on the Internet, not what one would think. These groups also support the notion of parents being with their children while they are on the Internet, not something that all parents have the luxury of being able to do. Other groups want the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Public access to the Internet is available at over 50% of the public libraries in the United States. Library patrons can access the limitless information available that the Internet offers. With this many libraries allowing access and many more each day adding access a new dilemma has been created. The dilemma is to support the American Library Associations Bill of Rights and the First Amendment Right of Free Speech or tolimit access to the Internet by censoring or blocking out undesirable information, and thus going against the right of free speech. On July 2, 1997 the American Library Association (ALA) adopted a resolution affirming that "the use of filtering software by libraries to block access to constitutionally protected speech violated the Library Bill of Rights." An earlier statment by the ALA titled "Access to Electronic Information, Services and Networks" in January of 1996 stated "users should not be restricted or denied access for expressing or receiving constitutionally protected speech." One would think that this would resolve the libraries dilemma, it did not. Public libraries must answer to boards, parents and their constituencies and therefore this group of people must support this decision as well. Libraries have constitutional support as well as professional sanction for open Internet access. Each library must wrestle with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To conduct quantitative research, the first step is defining the problem, identifying the objectives and goals, and establishing research questions or hypothesis. It is followed by data collection and analysis with the application of various numerical and statistical approaches. Quantitative research is more factual in terms that we get concrete data with evidence to prove the results of our research. Qualitative Research According to Kothari (2008) qualitative research is concerned with qualitative phenomena which are related to or involve quality or kind. Qualitative research engages the collection and analysis of non–numerical data obtained from experiments, interviews, observations, and other resources involving statements and arguments. Research is conducted into particular context and non–numerical interpretive approach is used to produce narrative description of research data. The Freedom Of Speech And The Internet Lastly, the plan contains a plethora of new regulations that will dampen investment and innovation for a faster, newer broadband networks and infrastructures. This will, in turn, slow down internet speed (Kerpen 2). However, the internet as a public utility will keep current internet providers from slowing or blocking internet traffic and will help maintain a free, open internet that respects the First Amendment, the freedom of speech. (Bedard 1 – 2 ) This internet openness that is expected to come with the implementation of President Obama's plan is better known as the FCC's Open Internet Rule or Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality will allow internet users to go when and where they want with unlimited access to legal content on the internet without broadband providers being allowed to block, prohibit, impair, or establish fast or slow lanes to this material. This is to protect, as stated above, every United States citizen's right to freedom of speech and expression of personal beliefs and interests. • 44. History, Philosophy And Miscellaneous Works Literature Review Libraries have a long history towards the ancient world as places used to keep important records such as clay tablets, transcripts and many texts. Many records were destroyed in the course of wars or purposely by some rulers with the changes in government. As a result, writing of literature as well as record keeping was encouraged where classification schemes were initiated to preserve those records of all times. The first formal classification was categorizing the writings into four types, the classics, history, philosophy and miscellaneous works. (Library, 2016). However, these broad categories didn't help much in guiding to access the increasing collection. The result was, introducing Dewey Decimal Classification as a scheme for the classification of the documents/ materials. (Library, 2016). Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) DDC was an invention of Melvil Dewey in 1876. He was an Assistant Librarian at Amherst College when he published DDC as "A Classification and subject index for cataloging and arranging the books pamphlets of a library". (Yoon, J. 2014). The system was formulated to organize the contents of the library based on the subject areas divided into 10 main groups where each group is given 100 numbers. For example, Religion belongs in 200 – 299. (DDC, 2016). This numerical classification gives identification for the item as well as a location tool which ensures the books under the same subject are kept together in a common area. (Wiercioch, ... • 45. The Current Procurement Situation Within Ucla Housing And... The first few weeks of our project were spent assessing the current procurement situation within UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services. We worked very closely with our stakeholder to gain an understanding of how products are purchased, and quickly decided that our project would focus on office supplies because they are frequently purchased and widely used, and because there are not strict regulations regarding what kinds of products can be purchased/used (as there are for chemical cleaning supplies, for example). Additionally, we performed background research and analyzed the current University of California Sustainability Practices Policy as well as past UCLA Housing purchasing data. Our findings were surprising. We found that the current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking all of this into consideration, we came up with the initial project idea of creating our own set of comprehensiveprocurement guidelines. These would be quantified, clear, and concise. However, we soon found that this project would be logistically difficult to complete and implement, given our resources and timeline. We also realized that the current guidelines are already available to UCLA staff, who, as the survey data indicated, are largely unaware of them. For this reason, simply updating the existing guidelines would have likely had little effect in changing purchasing behavior. The need for an educational component quickly became apparent – indeed, nearly 50% of survey participants identified a lack of awareness/knowledge of sustainable products as the biggest obstacle to the sustainable procurement of office supplies at UCLA. We delved deeper into the current procurement system, learning that the UC System is contracted with OfficeMax and that it uses an interface known as BruinBuy to make purchases. We thus decided to use the OfficeMax Green Office catalog (available to the public online) to compile a product recommendation list. We also made general plans to incorporate this list into an education program set to take place during Spring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
