The First World War sometimes referred to as the European War was more commonly referred to
as the Great War. So much in the world was changed by this war, so it simply by most known as
the Great War. "It is because no other war until then had had such an impact on the world. It was
the first war to affect all of the major nations of Europe and the world. It took many lives and
changed the lives of millions more." (Rivera, 2014) Some countries do not refer to the war as great
because they lost so much and for them there was nothing great about the war. The war was
groundbreaking as nothing like it had happened before. Different countries were uniting, fighting,
and making new rules as they went along. Everything during the war was on a large scale including
death, weapons, people, and affects. Before World War I, airplanes had been used for exploring and
transportation. During this war they were being used for dropping bombs and delivering
chemical weapons such as mustard gas. The war affected future generations of people as over
40,000,000 casualties and over 20 million civilians died. By losing sons or husbands, families
would be forced to move and learn a new way of life as the money makers were not around

not in support of the government. In just a few days, they raised an armed militia of 25,000 and

is a halogen, so when it was inhaled it would infiltrate the lungs and convert the moisture into

used and seen as an effective weapon as fire is something that as an evolutionary feature, humans

purely psychological warfare, almost, because there is a reason that humans are instinctively afraid
of fire and that is because fire can cause extreme amounts of pain. Aside that, it could also be used
to clear trenches rather effectively. The bayonet was a blade mounted on the front of a rifle. Some
soldiers were trained for bayonet charges, sprinting with their faces appearing enraged and their

Great War, also known as The First World War, lasted for four year (1914 to 1918). It brought a
huge development of war technics and weapons. More number of countries had been involved in the
Great War than any previous war. It involved the mobilization of the whole nations, not just an
enormous army that turned the war into a "total war". (Clare 6) However, historians are still arguing
about the major cause of the World War I. The major cause will be one of the four long–term causes

Pickard 12) His alliance system starts with a treaty with Austria–Hungary who was one of the 5
powers in Europe. In 1879, Germany and Austria–Hungary signed the Dual Alliance, which was
planned as a merely defensive arrangement or military alliance. Both governments promised that
they should help or remain neutral when other powerful countries such as Russia or France attack.

turns Dual Alliance into Triple Alliance by making Italy to join in his alliance system. Since Italy
had close friendship with Great Britain, although Italy was not a strong military nation, it was an

North Africa on colonial aspiration. Therefore, it was the perfect time to be an ally with her to

Any form of a war is devastating to the world but when the world has to get together to fight a
major issue is catastrophic. The effects of war can weaken and bring down countries just from how
much it cost to pursue an enemy. Moral takes effect on the families who are separated and the
soldiers who are lost during war can bring high depression. When a soldier dies, the families lose
a loved one and most like the primary source of income. The country also takes the hit because
every soldier lost is a backward step in forces to fight enemy. War is inevitable and there will
always be some entity abusing their power and need to be dealt with. In this essay I am going to
talk about the effects for both World War 1 and World War 2 on the European role in the world.
The major countires in Europe were very excited on fighting the war. The impact would fuel the

so that a new energetic and motivated leader would boost morale and help with the war time
economy. Although these efforts would not exactly be full filled because of the hardships that war

and have great negative effects on the country after the war which eventually led to the start of

The loans are what were financing the war for Britain and France. Furthermore, the British and the
French were also purchasing arms on United States credit. The Americans wanted to make sure they
got paid back so they entered war to ensure that they go their money repaid to them.
Politics executed a part in America entering the war also. Propaganda from both sides determined
America's decision. President Wilson did not want to go to war, but when Teddy Roosevelt wanted
to run for anther term, Wilson felt intimidated and declared that there would be a preparation
program and a chance that America would go to war. By taking part in the war, America was
validating itself as a world power.
Ideology was another piece that fit into the now solved puzzle of why America entered the war.
Wilson wanted to make the world safe for democracy. Ideology was seen partly for idealistic
justification. The inhabitation of Belgium and the sinking of the Lusitania changed many people's
minds in the United Stated of Germany.
President Wilson had cautioned citizens from taking side in the war in fear of jeopardizing wider US
policy, during the time of neutrality. Untied States maintained this neutrality despite increasing
pressure on President Wilson after the sinking of the Lusitania. This neutrality would crumble when
Germany started to introduce its unrestricted submarine

The First World War
The first world war was one of the most brutal and remorseless events in history; 'the global
conflict that defined a century'. Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent
civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to
become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from
rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the
trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery
as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank
was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that
could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried 'bolt action rifles' in
which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the
British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for
getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from trench
to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running toward
the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the
weapons used in the trenches. In modern day society, machine guns are the main weapons used by
soldiers. This wasn't the case around the 1914s. They took four
