Big Idea Biodiversity
The big idea was biodiversity. Australian museum defines biodiversity as the "variety of all living

AGENDA 21 and AN OVERVIEW ON THE CONVENTION ON
BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY
On December 22, 1989, the United Nations General Assembly called for a global meeting that would
devise strategies to stop and reverse the effects of environmental degradation. Agenda 21, adopted by
the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development on June 14, 1992, is the
international community's response to that request.
Agenda 21 is a "comprehensive program of action to be implemented from now and into the
twenty–first century by governments, development agencies, United Nations organizations, and
independent–sector groups in every area where human (economic) activity affects the environment"
(Department of Public Information United Nations 1). This program hoped to form a global
partnership where countries would strive to better manage and protect the ecosystem and bring a
more prosperous future for all of us.

The shade plants look unhealthy because it was grown quickly. Some nutrients look like their
missing because it's more yellowish. If I found a sample group pot of wildflowers I would feel like
I'm living in a healthier ecosystem because all the wildflowers are greener with healthier stems.

As the loss of biological diversity or biodiversity continues to increase at unprecedented rates, it
leaves a long–lasting effect on the environment of the planet Earth. Such effects are so threatening
that they can claim human lives in the near future.
Humans are clearing forests (deforestation) to occupy more land to urbanise more areas. Thus, as
humans continue to exploit the habitat of animals and plants for their own selfish needs, they harm
the entire environment of the earth. The deforestation has resulted in a variety of animals, which
dwell in that area, to leave the habitat. This is quite alarming as it could result in the loss of those
species diversity in the future.
The precious natural resources of the green earth are excessively exploited by humans. This includes
overharvesting animals to the extent that these species become extinct. It also includes
overconsumption of natural resources such as timber and fossil fuel which take years to regenerate.
This is a direct threat to biodiversity.
Humans pollute the environment in every way they can. They pollute the air with harmful pollutants
such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and nitrogen oxides produced
