Travis Perkins Case Study Essay
The case company to be considered in this case study is Travis Perkins, a major the leading distributor of building supplies in the UK and the key
megatrend to be discussed is climate change (Travis Perkins, n.d). This is attributable to the fact that, from the perspective of continued building,
maintaining and protecting the long–term reputation Travis Perkins, identifying a particular key megatrend like Climate Change to exploit the
opportunities and constraints it provides can go a long way in ensuring that the company achieves the goal of safeguarding its reputation. Justification
of the Choice of Key Megatrend Nowadays, a significant number of conflicts experienced across the globe either definitely originate or are associated
with climate (Diffenbaugh & Giorgi, 2012). According Hamilton (2011), scarcity of natural resources is the leading cause of conflicts globally and a
considerable level of this scarcity of natural resources is attributable to climate. This assertion is further substantiated by the evidence present from
numerous past and present studies (Mendelssohn, 2015; Roser–Renouf et al., 2014; Wuebbles et al., 2014). The other reason that justifies the selection
of climate change as the preferred choice is also entrenched in the fact that, Travis Perkins has invested significant amount... Show more content on

Analysis Of Angela Carter 's Post Modern Rendition, Tiger...
When you think of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, what do you remember? In the typical plot of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty aids the Beast
in his transformation from beast to man. The focus of the typical storyline is the battle between innate traits and characteristics accepted by society.
However, in Angela Carter's post–modern rendition, Tiger's Bride, not only does she shift the focus to explore the relationship between love and
self–acceptance, but she also changes the plot in efforts to make Beauty undergo a transformation. Through Carter's tone, exploration of power
dynamics, and use of imagery, the story follows the progression of the love and self–acceptance that influences Beauty's metamorphosis.
Within the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the moment between Beauty and the Beast continues, she feels as if "[she is] within the field of force of his golden eyes" (81). This line signifies
how much attraction lies between the two characters as Beauty feels that she's in the "field of force", keeping her entranced with him. Consequently,
"each stroke of his tongue rip[s] off skin after successive skin" (81), releasing Beauty from any remaining ties to society and allowing her to have
freedom. By removing each layer of "skin", the Beast ultimately unleashes Beauty's true identity, giving her the opportunity to fully accept herself
without the pressure to conform by society. With Carter's use of tone, the audience gains the ability to explore how the love of the Beast causes
Beauty to not only discover who she truly is, but also learn how to accept herself.
Similarly, Carter explores the power dynamics between the Beast and Beauty, drawing attention to how outside forces allow a person to develop
self–acceptance. In the beginning, Carter introduces the audience to Beauty who has autonomy, yet still complies to societal norms. When she
encounters the Beast after she's left in the castle alone, she decides that she "will not smile" (69) at him, simply because she does not want to. By
choosing to not smile at the Beast, she defies the typical role of a female in a fairy tale. However, the influence of society still has an impact on her
because when she

Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver
Throughout the movie Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976), it is obvious that Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is considered an outcast. He is denied
the chance of obtaining the title of a hero after fighting in the Vietnam War, and Betsy (Cybill Shepherd) rejects him. The regenerative violence myth
is a part of the American culture that states violence solves everything. Travis wants to be accepted into this culture, be given an identity, and save the
girl through this myth. He embodies this violence at the end of the movie, and everyone in the city rewards him. Travis isn't deranged for his act of
killing; he is only trying to live up to the expectation America has set for men, which is that violence is the only way to posses the identity of... Show

He presumes that this act of violence will give him a title of a hero and also give him an identity that he lacks. Travis also discusses with Palantine in
the taxi cab that someone should clean up the city because it is "like an open sewer" and is "full of filth and scum" (Scorsese, Taxi Driver). Travis
realizes that he should be the one to clean up the city of its' repulsiveness because the ones in authority are not doing an adequate job of removing it
themselves. By obtaining these two ideas that assassination will permit him to be a hero and his vigilantism is justifiable, he is convinced he will be
considered important and desired. With him convinced he should clear the filth, it urges him to assassinate the Presidential candidate and rid the city of
the scum himself, thus forming him to be a hero and receiving Betsy as his prize. Travis comes to this conclusion because of the regenerative violence
myth, that violence solves any

The Episode Redfern Now : Stand Up By Rachel Perkins And...
The episode Redfern Now: Stand Up by Rachel Perkins and the poetry of Alison Cobby–Eckermann explore the idea of belonging in modern
Australian society using double consciousness, othering and identity. The main characters, Joel and Eckermann, have struggled with their double
consciousness, are seen as the other and have an uncomplete identity.
Cobby–Eckermann uses separate, repeating ideas of Geometry to show her double consciousness in Circles and Squares. Similarly, Perkins shows the
double consciousness of Joel through the national anthem in Redfern Now: Stand up.
"My Aboriginal Culture has taught me that universal life is circular,". "I grew up in a white man's world,". "I looked at myself in a square mirror and

This is Joel 's double consciousness. His internal battle is whether to follow the Modern Australian Culture or his own culture. If he sings the national
anthem, then he would be successful in the current Australian society and won 't be removed from the school. If he doesn 't then he would be a true
Aboriginal by standing up to something which is not in his culture but would be removed from the school. It is a choice between the Aboriginal and
Western societry. His double consciousness lasts until he is invited again to the school, about whether he should sing the anthem or not.
Joel doesn 't sing the national anthem as he thinks it doesn 't apply to him. This is because he remembers the colonialism that happened to his
ancestors, and how the attributes of Australia weren 't as stated in this song. The double consciousness of Joel is evident mainly throughout the story.
This internal battle that happens within him is based on his choice, identity, and culture.
The use of dialogue shows the othering of Cobby–Eckermann in Table Manners. In a like manner, Joel is seen as the other in Redfern Now: Stand up
by Perkins through the scene in which Joel is taunted.
"We 've told you before, waitress yells in my ear. You have to leave. You can 't ask for money here,".
Cobby–Eckermann uses the repetition of "you" to show how she was the other in Australian Society. The dialogue above shows the discrimination
against her. The repeating pronoun "you" shows how the

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Essay
Most people would be able to name at least two famous authors of the twentieth century. One of those authors that would be named is Marjorie
Kinnan Rawlings. Marjorie Rawlings showed an interest in writing at very young age. The first jobs she had as a young adult was as a columnist.
There were many obstacles that she went through and personal sacrifices that were made to get her own name out in the writing world. Marjorie
Rawlings's had to learn to overcome the gender and social formalities of the twentieth century. However, Rawlings's was not someone who followed the
rules from the beginning. Rawlings's pushed the idea that women could do more than what others think they should be doing. Also, she did anything

When she and Charles moved away from the city to the small community of Cross Creek, she delved right into writing. By 1930, Rawlings was
noticed by the editor, Maxwell Perkins, and had her first successful short story, "Cracker Childlings", published in the Scribner Magazine (Lillios 2
par.5). As Rawlings grew more invested in her writings, she became distant from Charles. Rawlings was always writing or out in the scrubs
researching. The new life she had in Cross Creek was enjoyable. Even being away from her husband did not phase her. So, Charles was spending
more and more time away in South Florida doing his own research for his writings (Bigelow). Soon enough, Charles became unhappy with his life
in Cross Creek. In the article, "Finding A Home: Rawlings's Cross Creek", by Susan Schmidt, she explains that a reason for his unhappiness was
that he "...showed increasing jealousy of his wife's initial publication" (Schmidt 50 par.7). Charles was having a harder time getting his own writings
published. Yet, Rawlings already had an editor and was working on her first book. In the literary article, "A Letter and a Dream", it also mentions
how she recognized her husband's jealousy and that she knew he "resented her literary success in light of his own failures" (Lear 35). Into her last two
years of marriage with Charles, they were already living two separate lives and she soon divorced him. Rawlings's never was or became dependent on

The Death Of A Funeral
It all started with a murder and it all ended with a funeral. When you spend your whole life being molded into a predator, half of your free time is
spent trying to avoid prison. Why else would I be attending the funeral of this overweight, unsightly mayor? It wasn 't because I cared or that I
loved my city, instead it was because I loved my freedom, and my job. Well, sometimes. When you murder a respected, notorious man in town, it
would be suspicious if you didn't show up to his very lovely service. A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, and it began to weep for the
scandalous politician, yet everyone remained under the melodramatic canopy. It made you wonder if the sky was weeping from joy or sorrow. It also

began to walk very slowly out from underneath the tent with his shoulders hunched, a muscular man following behind with an umbrella over his
head. He stood awkwardly at the podium, adjusting the microphone down to his short body. "Good morning," the microphone cracked and he
cringed from his voice being projected for the huge audience to hear, to judge. He cleared his throat, setting his folded hands on top of the wet
wood. "Thank you all for coming." He straightened his expensive suit free from all wrinkles. His skin seemed baby smooth from even miles away and
his hair was perfectly styled, not a hair out of place. "My father–" I crinkled my nose. Of course. No one else would bother speaking nicely about a
corrupt mayor. Only his spoiled son would. Of course, he loved his father, he probably received everything he asked Daddy for. I gazed down at

everyone once again and stumbling away from the podium. For a rich guy, you 'd think he 'd have more confidence in front of an audience.

Taxi Driver Film Analysis
Taxi Driver: The Filth of the Streets and of Self The opening shot is Robert DeNiro's character, Travis Bickle's eyes in the review mirror intensely
gazing at the city. It then transitions to the view outside of the taxi to the colorful, hectic streets of New York City. This exaggerates the importance of
the taxi itself and the main character's point of view from within it. Bickle is a veteran Marine who can't sleep and decides to take the job of driving

his family such as a Las Vegas–style Revue that they performed with Motown hits and celebrity impersonations. When he was four years old he

Jesse Washington : A Short Story
My life has always been sort of mediocre. I had only ever been expected to sit away and rust, but little did I know just how quickly it could change.
To tell the story entirely I will have to go back to the beginning when Jesse Washington first confessed to this horrific crime, a tale that can make
even an old chain like me wonder who was truly safe in Waco, Texas. May 8, 1916, seemed like just any other day, for all except Lucy Fryer
(Goodwin). She was found around sundown lying in her doorway dead as a door nail. Shortly after, Jesse Washington, an African American man,
was found covered in blood. He claimed the blood was from a nosebleed; no one else seemed to believe him. After being interrogated, he finally
confessed to having raped and murdered poor Lucy. This man was known to have been illiterate and was considered to be one apple short of a
barrel. However, because of his race he was rushed to court and was ruled guilty. I would like to tell you this story was over, and that he resided in
jail for the rest of his days; however, sadly this was not the case. I did not kill Jesse Washington, but I did get to see his last moments. For he was still
quite alive when they tied me around him. I still remember how he shook when they opened the door, his screams as they beat him and drug him
through the street, but mostly I just remembered his last breath. Jesse fought hard for his life, but not even I had the strength to pull him away from the
crowd. As he lay there, the

For the Texans in the tejanos, that were born in mexico, in San Antonio that didn't volunteer might be angry or sad since they were from Mexico and

For a Anglo soldier defending the Alamo might be happy since they got their independence and maybe ready for the battle.
For the general Santa Ana might be angry since he wanted Texans to be punished since they didn't follow things from Mexico, and now he wants to
win the battle.

Fdr 's New Deal Program
The CCC under his New Deal program, prompted the young males of America the chance to work and bring in money for their graving families, who
were suffering during the Depression. They were working outside all the time, so it would better their overall physical appearance, but also their
mental health too. FDR used the CCC to get the young men of America to become manlier. This ties to Teddy Roosevelt's propaganda about America
needing to show off their manliness to the rest of the world. The CCC brought forth a rejuvenation of the all–around health of the participants of the
camps. The outdoor work that the workers were put through help transform their figures. As the Secretary of Labor, she played a role in the conditions
of the workers the New Deal programs. Also one of the big proprietors for the preservation of forest that FDR pushed was Guilford Pinchot. The
Pennsylvania governor liked and advocated for what FDR was pushing for what the CCC camps intent was. Roosevelt, before his time as governor in
1912, brought in Pinchot to help boost the popularity of the Roosevelt–Jones bill, which put regulations on deforestation on private lands in New York.
Being a student of forestry, helped Pinchot get his point across with how to implement the conservation of forests. Pinchot's methods of conservation
were based on the timber production and the soil. Many of the CCC camps were based upon those two things. The people of Wisconsin at the Coon

Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole
$40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split–personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along
the way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious mother.Psycho explored in–depth the psychosis of
its characters and how it connected to KГјbler–Ross model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise–en–scГЁne and motifs, to
demonstrate this characteristic of its characters.
Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird–focused motif, a recurring theme in not only Psycho but also his other works, The Birds
(1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through use of mise en scГЁne. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest
in birds. His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close–up shots of the conversation between Norman and Marion
Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a predatory bird in a low–angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the
other hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high–angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This filmmaking technique signified the
juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is

Essay about Religion & Purification in Taxi Driver
"He's a profit and a pusher.
Partly truth partly fiction.
A walking contradiction." – Kris Kirstofferson
In Martin Scorcese's Taxi Driver, Travis Bickle repeatedly expresses two ideas that are central to the film. First, Travis has an undying wish to purify
the world. He wants to rid his city of all the evil and scum that currently inhabits the city's cold and damp streets. Second, is the method by which
Travis tries to obtain his goals. Travis Bickle tries to clean up his city by methods similar to those of religious figures. He even takes on a role as a
savior figure. Travis Bickle's quest to save the world via religious ideas fails, and instead results is a bloodbath.
The first place where we are introduced to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like Noah, he believes that he will be saved, while everyone else in the world perishes from the torrents of water. Later in the film, Travis feels
compelled to take action against this sleaze. He wants to help purify the world by eliminating the sleaze by whatever methods he deems appropriate.
Even if this means killing his fellow man, then so be it.
Another instance where we see Travis revert to this theme of purifier is when he first meets Betsy. The childish scrawl in his diary tells the story.
"I first saw her at Palantine headquarters at 63rd and Broadway. She was wearing a white dress. She appeared like an angle. Out of this filthy mass.
She is alone. They cannot touch her." In these few choice words, Travis Bickle again reemphasis the recurring religious references. In this specific
instance, Travis's first words about his new love interest are, "She was wearing a white dress." White is traditionally a color used to represent purity.
In Travis's eyes, Betsy is the virginal ideal that he must strive to obtain. To him she is his perfect match. Possibly the most important aspect of this
quotation is the religious references that it conjures up. Travis refers to Betsy as an angel; she is one of the few people who does not sink down into
the muck that covers the city.
Another interesting aspect of this

Taxi Driver Social Disorganization
The film Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, takes place in New York City during the 1970's. The main character Travis Bickle, played by
Robert De Niro, is a United States Marine returning home after serving his country. Taxi Driver appears to demonstrate the theory of Social
Disorganization. The audience can see this throughout the film in scenes where Bickle is driving through the city. As the film continues Bickle appears
to struggle with adjusting to such a large city and coping with his sanity. This film takes a look at how Social Disorganization along with a mental
illness can contribute to someone's actions and behavior.
Travis Bickle is an extremely complex individual. It appears Bickle's mental state is deteriorating after serving four years in the United States Marine
Corps and seeing combat action in Vietnam. Bickle seems to be an insomniac unable to sleep at night, part of the reason why he wants to drive a taxi
cab at night. Struggling to sleep, Bickle also consumes alcohol at various times of the day. The audience gets a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Martin Scorsese beautifully demonstrates what a socially disorganized city might reflect. Whenever Bickle is driving his taxi cab at night the
audience can see prostitution, pimping, assault, robbery, and drug dealing. In the movie one can see that there are really no institutions exhorting
their control over society. With a lack of control from institutions such as religion, politics, and school it allows crime to take over and become a
societal norm. Bickle sees that crime is rampant within the city and refers to these individuals as "scum." It is very apparent that social disorganization
has especially taken hold of the inner city, or "Zone of Transition," which is where most minorities reside and where most crime occurs. Bickle
unfortunately both lives and primarily works in this

William Barret Travis a hero of the Texas revolution impacted the American people with his meaningful letter requesting aid. Travis wrote a very
inspirational letter addressed not only to the people of Texas but also to all the Americans in the world. Which impacted the way American's view

overwhelming Mexican forces in 1836. He was the oldest out of his 11 brothers and sisters. His parents were Mark Stallworth and Jemima Stallworth.

Travis drew out his sword and drew a line. For those who wanted to stay and defend the Alamo as strong serving men had to cross the line. All 200
men crossed the line but one. The 200 men that chose to stay at the Alamo was mainly because of the letter that Travis sent out for support and
therefore, the soldiers stayed and fought for liberty. A native of France that was a veteran of the Napoleonic wars known as Louis Mosses Rose,
the soldier did not see a reason for him to stay and die for something Rose did not believe in. This soldier did not care for the letter that Travis sent
out nor the liberty of Texas; however, the letter did impact the soldiers. It motivated the soldiers to fight with passion. The soldiers grew hope and
patriotism, regardless that all 200 men were free to leave but yet staid at Travis's side to fight for liberty. Even though Travis did not succeed due to
the overwhelming number of Santa Ana's army which Travis and the troops paid with their lives Travis's letter did however struck a core in many of
the volunteers and the US army, which Sam Houston led to victory over Santa Anna in April 21 1836, in the Battle of San Jacinto. Travis's letter had a
vast impact that shaped the destiny of America and the world with the defeat of Santa Anna since the Republic of Texas

An Unfortunate Journey : A Journey Essay : An Narrable...
An Unfortunate Journey
I woke up in a strange place, one I didn't recognize. Not knowing how I had gotten here, I tried to orient myself. Everything was cast in darkness
except for a patch of light from a window at the top of a wall. The last thing I could remember was walking home from my photo exhibit, proud of
how far I had come, when someone came up from behind and hit me over the head.
I tried to get up and make my way over to the window. As I sat up, my head started to throb from the sudden movement, and I had to clear it before I
could move anymore. I must have been hit hard over the head for it to hurt like that, I realized. I checked for blood as I moved to stand, and found none.
As I stood up, I got a clearer picture of where I was. I seemed to be in a basement underneath a house, and there was a desk under the window. It had a
lamp, what appeared to be a photographic enlarger, a large book, and pens on it. Everything was old–fashioned, from about the mid–1960's. In front of
the table on the floor was a large crimson colored stain that looked like it hadn't been there for too long. I shuddered at the thought of what, or who, it
could have come from, that there was a possibility I wasn't the first to have been taken here.
I moved towards the window, hoping it would give me a clearer view of the room. My foot hit something soft about half of the way there. Catching
myself before I fell, I moved it into the light to see what it was. I wished I hadn't immediately.

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Lord of the Flies: Violence
Someone's dead, bloods been shed, and people are being hunted one by one. In most horror stories, the next step would be finding out who the
murder is, and how to either stop it or get away from it. But in this story, the murderers are already given and how they killed the others are revealed.
So what's the use of these scenes of violence? In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, several boys ranging six to thirteen are stranded on an island
after the plane they were aboard on crashed. They all survived except the pilot, so they're all alone with no adults to supervise them. How lucky! Or
is it? As they band together to kept order and survive on the island, things get out of hand and blood is shed. The boy's ... Show more content on

There's nothing wrong with getting excited over hunting game, since even in modern society hunting is a sport that satisfies many. Yet these are eight
to twelve year old boys who were previously secluded in an all–boys private school and hesitated to hunt a pig the first time they tried hunting, are
being "...webbed to her in lust..." (135). Yes there is a sense of savagery since these boys are hunting, as human ancestors have done in the past
regularly for food, but in general this scene demonstrates how there is a sense of barbarity within in them but its only because it regulated society
needs of eating. As most of the boys' do gain an adrenaline from this hunt, one boy particularly gives this brutal scene an importance. "Roger began
to withdraw his spear and the boys noticed it for the first time. Robert stabilized the thing in a phrase that was received uproariously. Right up her
ass!" (135). Such an outrageous comment coming from this kid hints of Roger's true inner colors of his sadistic side. It's a foreshadowing of how his
true character is in the future. Roger is the first to gain that real overtaking of savagery over how he would acted in society. Without adults on this
island, Roger is free from any restraint to let his inner aggressiveness out. This

Characteristics Of The Leadership Qualities Of Santa Anna
Leadership Qualities of Santa Anna
It began in the pre dawn darkness of March 6, 1836 Mexican general Santa Anna ordered an assault force of 1800 men to unleash its fury on a tiny
band of Texans defending a fort called the Alamo. The history behind this tells how Texas was torn away fromMexico, and became part of the United
States. This may have been a victory of Santa Anna; however was an even greater victory for the humanity of the defenders. Many believed this
was a race war; however was an issue of competing political systems. Santa Anna prepared to give command that would unleash attack. While the
weary Americans were catching up on sleep for the first time in two weeks, a Mexican began hollering and yelling, which awoke a sleeping inside
soldier. In the video "Remember the Alamo", Santa Anna was believed to be a skilled general and a hero of Mexico's fight for Independence from
Spain. Santa Anna became president in 1833 implicating federalism but only for a short time. He later changed and suspended the Constitution of
1834 seeing federalist autonomy as a threat to the stability of Mexico and his own grip on power. He very quickly shifted from being a federalist to a
centralist to a dictator. Those like Travis that had once stood behind Santa Anna, are now right in front of his guns. Santa Anna guns would then be
turned to Tejanos (Texans of Mexican birth), whom were horrified that Constitution would be voided by the president. Upon Santa Anna becoming a

Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Life During The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a devastating time for everyone and it allowed many hardships. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected when the worse
of the depression was taking a toll on America. Many of the people in America thought Hoover made their lives worse, and were excited for FDR to
be their president. FDR made many new laws before he started his presidency and everyone loved his spirit and passion. The people followed what
he said and the ideas he had to try and stop the Great Depression. While it took over a decade to get America out of depression, FDR was effective at
creating peace with the public during the New Deal because most of the new programs he created helped with the people and intrusions get out of the

Child labor was used in many factories and industries because some families needed more money. This shows how some families depend on their

"Employment of children was banned during the Great Depression (1929–39) due not only to moral outrage but also to declining demand for child
labor." This states how child labor was very frowned upon by other citizens, but was needed for other families to survive during the hardships of the
Great Depression. Labor was very hard for workers because they would have to work long hours for little pay. There was an act created called the "Fair
Labors Standards Act". This act allowed a 40 cent per hour pay by 1945 and banned child labor in all businesses. This act helped workers get more

For Six Months During 1835 And 1836, The People Of Texas,
For six months during 1835 and 1836, the people of Texas, both Tejanos and colonist, fought for their independence from Mexico and from Santa Anna,
who had been establishing new, stricter laws for those in Texas. In the most iconic battle of this revolution, the men at the Alamo went beyond what
was expected of the typical Texas soldier in the revolution and their deaths created a thirst for revenge that lasted through the rest of the war. It was
this thirst for revenge that played a significant role in the success at the Battle of San Jacinto. As was true with the rest of the Texas revolutionaries,
there was variety in the group of men who fought at the Alamo. They were freemen and slaves, Tejanos' and Texans, those who were willing to... Show

While Fannin 's attitude is not necessarily representative of the rest of the Texas Army, there was certainly a difference between the Texas Army and the
men at the Alamo. Although all of the soldiers fighting in the revolution were putting their lives at risk, the men at the Alamo knowingly sacrificed
their lives because of their commitment to their cause. Prior to the battle of the Alamo, San Antonio was taken by the Texas army with significant help
from the local Tejanos population. Approximately 160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying siege. While having the
Tejanos on the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the relationship began to fall apart quickly, due in part to the Texas soldiers need
for supplies and their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply take what they needed, be it crops or livestock. Although farmers and ranchers
received assurances that they would be reimbursed in the years following the war, it was small comfort. Another problem was the difference in what
the two groups were trying to accomplish. While the Texans were seeking complete freedom from Mexico, the majority of Tejanos wanted to become
a Federalism within Mexico. This difference in end goals coupled

Robert De Niro's Taxi Driver
Robert De Niro's terrifyingly realistic portrayal of Travis Bickle, a lonely Vietnam war veteran in the film Taxi Driver, is a performance that has
captivated audiences for more than thirty years and that will never be forgotten. De Niro's masterful performance sees him use complete control
over his body and voice to allow his characterization of Travis to reflect a certain atmosphere. With only minimal speaking throughout, he manages
to use subtle facial, body, and eye movements to expose the film's themes of loneliness, alienation, anger, and redemption. In fact, the opening
scene itself is a perfect example of how subtle gestures can effectively convey a film's mood. The very first scene exposes a pair of fatigued eyes,
moving slowly from one side of the screen to the other with an anxious expression. De Niro, with the use of only a pair of eyes, catapults the viewer
into the dark, surreal world of New York City, the space in which his severely disturbed character inhabits.

Off the screen, he has a reputation for being rather illusive and hard to get a hold of. These qualities just happen to be things that accurately describe
Travis' character in the film. De Niro and Martin Scorsese, the director, were fully aware of this on–screen and off–screen mythology. They embraced it
with this character in full force. Both being New York City natives, the two understood the effects that living in the city could have on an individual's
psyche, and they utilized this knowledge to great effect. They shared a very healthy friendship

This final aerial shot of Travis Bickle and his little killing spree suggests a completion of purpose because Travis Bickle is lost in what his purpose

This is where Bickle gives us his viewpoint on the city, and it's pretty oblivious throughout the film. This viewpoint from Bickle could even reflect
Scorcese's message to the people of America that perhaps, we need to clean up a little bit.
Not only is this shot a completion of purpose, it's also real in my opinion unlike the prompt says it is. By that I mean that what follows this aerial
view of what could be the assumption of Bickle's end is simply real and not fantasy. The assumption that Bickle dies here in this room bleeding out
and how this shot depicts his soul leaving his body. Truth be told, there's no telltale sign of what follows this bloodbath to be fantasy or reality. But it
is so easy to go with that theme of fantasy right? Everything up until this point is on par with the rest of the film until it takes this turn. This

Silver Raindrop Monologue
I still remember the dreadful day of pain, seared into my memory for all of eternity. The salty smell of blood filled the dark and smoky air.
Gunshots rang through the air, echoing through the trees; yet the white flag flew high above us. Bullets rained from the sky knocking leaves and
needles from the tree limbs and cut perfect circles through our tepees. An infant cried out hidden in the blood of his dead mother. Then, in the shower
of deadly metal, a silver raindrop passed through the infant's head and for one fateful second, everything became silent. Yet the rain of death persisted
causing even more fatalities. I remember running as fast as my legs could carry me, trying to keep up with the rest of our people while doing my best
to hide from the rain of death falling from the heavens.
Dehydrated and weak, I could run no further and collapsed in the vast plains with my travois in tow behind me. For the next moon, my brothers and
sisters walked in a straight line, following the star that never move. Every day cycled into the same pattern, walking stopping, eating, sleeping, and
repeating. The sun rose and fell so many times we lost count. Finally, we came into contact with aCheyenne buffalo hunt who brought us back to camp

The Battle Of The Texas Revolution
Texans are full of pride and have been since the term Texan was created. The Texas revolutionary war was a great battle between Mexican Republic
and the Texas Colonists. The Texas Revolution was also known as the Texas War of Independence. What will be discussed throughout the research
paper are the battles that took place throughout the revolutionary war. The paper will explain how these battles shaped the wayTexas Independence was
won and how it shaped the future for Texan colonists. The battles of Gonzales, Goliad, The Alamo, and the finalbattle of San Jacinto played the biggest
roles in the Texas Revolution
A little history before we start diving into the significance of the battles, there some precursors to the beginning of the conflict. There were a lot of
political and cultural clashes between the Mexican government and American settlers in Texas. In the 1820 's, this was in the early stages. Mexico
wanted to attract settlers to the state known as Coahuila which is known as Texas today. The American settlers where wanting to go because the land
was good for farming and ranching. Though the American settlers soon started pushing the Mexicans away, and Mexico was slowly becoming reluctant
to allow the Americans to settle here. When Americans settlers started to migrate in Texas, Mexico tried to stop them by implementing a law that they
convert to Catholicism and become Mexican citizens. Though, most of the Texas settlers approved of the Mexican constitution of 1824,

Social Worker Reflection Paper
In this video, the social worker's role was that of a therapist. Dr. Siri Singh sat with his client to discuss some of the issues Kathryn Hudson and her
alter ego Katy Perry has been experiencing over the years. Kathryn sought guidance, acceptance, affirmation and explanation with this session and I do
believe the therapist was able to achieve this for his client. The therapist, or Dr. Singh, created a safe environment for Kathryn to speak her mind. In the
very beginning of the session, the therapist tells Kathryn to sit back and relax, in an attempt to help Katy feel that this is a nurturing and comfortable
space for her; and I perceived it to have been an effective strategy for therapist and client in this situation. Dr. Singh was asked probing questions and
actively listened through out the entire session, which builds trust with the client. I perceived his body language to be very open, because he had his
chest facing towards her; this arms by his side and legs leanly outwardly. This type of body language suggests openness and that the person is willing
to receive information.
Dr. Singh also practiced very good verbal and non–verbal cues that he was actively listening to his client as they spoke. He would nod his head, and
every few minutes say, "yes", to signal his understanding. Danish, D'Augelli, and Hauer explain this to be self–disclosure, using verbal and non–verbal
expressions. Examples include smiling, shaking ones head in disbelief, or in the case with Dr. Singh, nodding his head. Another technique the therapist
used that builds trust was his consistent determination to not let Kathryn speak negatively about herself (17:00, 21:51, 27:58, 31:08). I believe this to
be a vital skill and important detail to ay attention to and I commend the therapist for making that important. This ties in with the empowerment theory,
I believe. Dr. Singh, instead of letting the client say something negative about herself he would have the client use a different and more positive term.
An example of this was when Kathryn described herself as bizarre, and the therapist said he did not like that word, and helped his client think of a
more positive descriptive word such as exotic, intriguing or eccentric. This builds

The only thing that changes is that Driver is willing to against his own set of rules to protect his life and the life of Standard's family. There are no

film explores the idea of not hurting anyone. In a sense it promoted victimless crimes. Driver never intended to kill anyone. Although he was a

Delonge stressed,
"Being on tour was such a grind. I didn't love it enough, it was too much disruption for me. And playing the same songs every night and moving your

Martin Scorse's Taxi Driver
Martin Scorses's Taxi Driver is the distinct cry of mid–1970's America. American society was becoming fabricated, alienated, and distrustful. Above all,
American society was throwing away the values of the older days and trying to replace its anger and discontent with violence and paranoia.
In the film the viewer is painfully close to its main character, Travis Bickle. This is written in a narration form of a diary he writes in from time to
time. Bickle is consistently portrayed as a lonely but unrecognized veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving the war, Bickle tries to find some sort
of purpose in a new 1970's America. However, the protagonist finds himself often alienated from society as well as disgusted by it. Bickle goes
through several phases of crises, which all lead up to violence. This is majorly due to his experiences as a war veteran and his inability to conduct
himself along with his emotions in a normal manner.
The Vietnam War was the first war to be televised and this was a shock to the American people. It was able to show the most gritty and realistic side
of war, which was very unlike the glorified visions of victory and valor that films had portrayed. The veterans of war were promised a homecoming
and instead, they were unwelcomed and homeless. For the rest of the American public, living was becoming uncontrollable and so was the government.
Society's issues such as abandonment and rotting cities were also touching Hollywood and its filmmakers. Old

Early in life Audrey was faced with both social and family oriented conflicts. Her parents fought and in 1938 her father left Audrey and her mother.
Audrey recalls the leaving of her father as "'the most traumatic event in my life.'" As a young child it is difficult to cope with parents

Travis Perkins Case Study Essay

  • 1. Travis Perkins Case Study Essay The case company to be considered in this case study is Travis Perkins, a major the leading distributor of building supplies in the UK and the key megatrend to be discussed is climate change (Travis Perkins, n.d). This is attributable to the fact that, from the perspective of continued building, maintaining and protecting the long–term reputation Travis Perkins, identifying a particular key megatrend like Climate Change to exploit the opportunities and constraints it provides can go a long way in ensuring that the company achieves the goal of safeguarding its reputation. Justification of the Choice of Key Megatrend Nowadays, a significant number of conflicts experienced across the globe either definitely originate or are associated with climate (Diffenbaugh & Giorgi, 2012). According Hamilton (2011), scarcity of natural resources is the leading cause of conflicts globally and a considerable level of this scarcity of natural resources is attributable to climate. This assertion is further substantiated by the evidence present from numerous past and present studies (Mendelssohn, 2015; Roser–Renouf et al., 2014; Wuebbles et al., 2014). The other reason that justifies the selection of climate change as the preferred choice is also entrenched in the fact that, Travis Perkins has invested significant amount... • 2. Analysis Of Angela Carter 's Post Modern Rendition, Tiger... When you think of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast, what do you remember? In the typical plot of Beauty and the Beast, Beauty aids the Beast in his transformation from beast to man. The focus of the typical storyline is the battle between innate traits and characteristics accepted by society. However, in Angela Carter's post–modern rendition, Tiger's Bride, not only does she shift the focus to explore the relationship between love and self–acceptance, but she also changes the plot in efforts to make Beauty undergo a transformation. Through Carter's tone, exploration of power dynamics, and use of imagery, the story follows the progression of the love and self–acceptance that influences Beauty's metamorphosis. Within the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the moment between Beauty and the Beast continues, she feels as if "[she is] within the field of force of his golden eyes" (81). This line signifies how much attraction lies between the two characters as Beauty feels that she's in the "field of force", keeping her entranced with him. Consequently, "each stroke of his tongue rip[s] off skin after successive skin" (81), releasing Beauty from any remaining ties to society and allowing her to have freedom. By removing each layer of "skin", the Beast ultimately unleashes Beauty's true identity, giving her the opportunity to fully accept herself without the pressure to conform by society. With Carter's use of tone, the audience gains the ability to explore how the love of the Beast causes Beauty to not only discover who she truly is, but also learn how to accept herself. Similarly, Carter explores the power dynamics between the Beast and Beauty, drawing attention to how outside forces allow a person to develop self–acceptance. In the beginning, Carter introduces the audience to Beauty who has autonomy, yet still complies to societal norms. When she encounters the Beast after she's left in the castle alone, she decides that she "will not smile" (69) at him, simply because she does not want to. By choosing to not smile at the Beast, she defies the typical role of a female in a fairy tale. However, the influence of society still has an impact on her because when she ... • 3. Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver Throughout the movie Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976), it is obvious that Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is considered an outcast. He is denied the chance of obtaining the title of a hero after fighting in the Vietnam War, and Betsy (Cybill Shepherd) rejects him. The regenerative violence myth is a part of the American culture that states violence solves everything. Travis wants to be accepted into this culture, be given an identity, and save the girl through this myth. He embodies this violence at the end of the movie, and everyone in the city rewards him. Travis isn't deranged for his act of killing; he is only trying to live up to the expectation America has set for men, which is that violence is the only way to posses the identity of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He presumes that this act of violence will give him a title of a hero and also give him an identity that he lacks. Travis also discusses with Palantine in the taxi cab that someone should clean up the city because it is "like an open sewer" and is "full of filth and scum" (Scorsese, Taxi Driver). Travis realizes that he should be the one to clean up the city of its' repulsiveness because the ones in authority are not doing an adequate job of removing it themselves. By obtaining these two ideas that assassination will permit him to be a hero and his vigilantism is justifiable, he is convinced he will be considered important and desired. With him convinced he should clear the filth, it urges him to assassinate the Presidential candidate and rid the city of the scum himself, thus forming him to be a hero and receiving Betsy as his prize. • 6. The Episode Redfern Now : Stand Up By Rachel Perkins And... The episode Redfern Now: Stand Up by Rachel Perkins and the poetry of Alison Cobby–Eckermann explore the idea of belonging in modern Australian society using double consciousness, othering and identity. The main characters, Joel and Eckermann, have struggled with their double consciousness, are seen as the other and have an uncomplete identity. Cobby–Eckermann uses separate, repeating ideas of Geometry to show her double consciousness in Circles and Squares. Similarly, Perkins shows the double consciousness of Joel through the national anthem in Redfern Now: Stand up. "My Aboriginal Culture has taught me that universal life is circular,". "I grew up in a white man's world,". "I looked at myself in a square mirror and didn't know who I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is Joel 's double consciousness. His internal battle is whether to follow the Modern Australian Culture or his own culture. If he sings the national anthem, then he would be successful in the current Australian society and won 't be removed from the school. If he doesn 't then he would be a true Aboriginal by standing up to something which is not in his culture but would be removed from the school. It is a choice between the Aboriginal and Western societry. His double consciousness lasts until he is invited again to the school, about whether he should sing the anthem or not. Joel doesn 't sing the national anthem as he thinks it doesn 't apply to him. This is because he remembers the colonialism that happened to his ancestors, and how the attributes of Australia weren 't as stated in this song. The double consciousness of Joel is evident mainly throughout the story. This internal battle that happens within him is based on his choice, identity, and culture. The use of dialogue shows the othering of Cobby–Eckermann in Table Manners. In a like manner, Joel is seen as the other in Redfern Now: Stand up by Perkins through the scene in which Joel is taunted. "We 've told you before, waitress yells in my ear. You have to leave. You can 't ask for money here,". Cobby–Eckermann uses the repetition of "you" to show how she was the other in Australian Society. The dialogue above shows the discrimination against her. Marjorie Rawlings showed an interest in writing at very young age. The first jobs she had as a young adult was as a columnist. There were many obstacles that she went through and personal sacrifices that were made to get her own name out in the writing world. Marjorie Rawlings's had to learn to overcome the gender and social formalities of the twentieth century. However, Rawlings's was not someone who followed the rules from the beginning. When she and Charles moved away from the city to the small community of Cross Creek, she delved right into writing. By 1930, Rawlings was noticed by the editor, Maxwell Perkins, and had her first successful short story, "Cracker Childlings", published in the Scribner Magazine (Lillios 2 par.5). As Rawlings grew more invested in her writings, she became distant from Charles. Rawlings was always writing or out in the scrubs researching. The new life she had in Cross Creek was enjoyable. Even being away from her husband did not phase her. So, Charles was spending more and more time away in South Florida doing his own research for his writings (Bigelow). Soon enough, Charles became unhappy with his life in Cross Creek. In the article, "Finding A Home: Rawlings's Cross Creek", by Susan Schmidt, she explains that a reason for his unhappiness was that he "...showed increasing jealousy of his wife's initial publication" (Schmidt 50 par.7). Charles was having a harder time getting his own writings published. Yet, Rawlings already had an editor and was working on her first book. In the literary article, "A Letter and a Dream", it also mentions how she recognized her husband's jealousy and that she knew he "resented her literary success in light of his own failures" (Lear 35). Into her last two years of marriage with Charles, they were already living two separate lives and she soon divorced him. Rawlings's never was or became dependent on a man for stability or his ... It wasn 't because I cared or that I loved my city, instead it was because I loved my freedom, and my job. Well, sometimes. When you murder a respected, notorious man in town, it would be suspicious if you didn't show up to his very lovely service. But then the boy began to walk very slowly out from underneath the tent with his shoulders hunched, a muscular man following behind with an umbrella over his head. He stood awkwardly at the podium, adjusting the microphone down to his short body. "Good morning," the microphone cracked and he cringed from his voice being projected for the huge audience to hear, to judge. He cleared his throat, setting his folded hands on top of the wet wood. "Thank you all for coming." He straightened his expensive suit free from all wrinkles. His skin seemed baby smooth from even miles away and his hair was perfectly styled, not a hair out of place. "My father–" I crinkled my nose. Of course. No one else would bother speaking nicely about a corrupt mayor. Only his spoiled son would. Of course, he loved his father, he probably received everything he asked Daddy for. I gazed down at my nails, picking at the cracked polish and attempted to tune out the whiny rich boy. To tell the story entirely I will have to go back to the beginning when Jesse Washington first confessed to this horrific crime, a tale that can make even an old chain like me wonder who was truly safe in Waco, Texas. May 8, 1916, seemed like just any other day, for all except Lucy Fryer (Goodwin). She was found around sundown lying in her doorway dead as a door nail. Shortly after, Jesse Washington, an African American man, was found covered in blood. He claimed the blood was from a nosebleed; no one else seemed to believe him. After being interrogated, he finally confessed to having raped and murdered poor Lucy. This man was known to have been illiterate and was considered to be one apple short of a barrel. However, because of his race he was rushed to court and was ruled guilty. I would like to tell you this story was over, and that he resided in jail for the rest of his days; however, sadly this was not the case. I did not kill Jesse Washington, but I did get to see his last moments. For he was still quite alive when they tied me around him. I still remember how he shook when they opened the door, his screams as they beat him and drug him through the street, but mostly I just remembered his last breath. • 16. Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split–personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious mother.Psycho explored in–depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to KГјbler–Ross model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise–en–scГЁne and motifs, to demonstrate this characteristic of its characters. Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird–focused motif, a recurring theme in not only Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through use of mise en scГЁne. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds. His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close–up shots of the conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a predatory bird in a low–angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high–angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is ... First, Travis has an undying wish to purify the world. He wants to rid his city of all the evil and scum that currently inhabits the city's cold and damp streets. Second, is the method by which Travis tries to obtain his goals. Travis Bickle tries to clean up his city by methods similar to those of religious figures. He even takes on a role as a savior figure. Much like Noah, he believes that he will be saved, while everyone else in the world perishes from the torrents of water. Later in the film, Travis feels compelled to take action against this sleaze. In this specific instance, Travis's first words about his new love interest are, "She was wearing a white dress." White is traditionally a color used to represent purity. In Travis's eyes, Betsy is the virginal ideal that he must strive to obtain. To him she is his perfect match. Possibly the most important aspect of this quotation is the religious references that it conjures up. Not knowing how I had gotten here, I tried to orient myself. Everything was cast in darkness except for a patch of light from a window at the top of a wall. The last thing I could remember was walking home from my photo exhibit, proud of how far I had come, when someone came up from behind and hit me over the head. I tried to get up and make my way over to the window. As I sat up, my head started to throb from the sudden movement, and I had to clear it before I could move anymore. I must have been hit hard over the head for it to hurt like that, I realized. I checked for blood as I moved to stand, and found none. As I stood up, I got a clearer picture of where I was. Characteristics Of The Leadership Qualities Of Santa Anna Leadership Qualities of Santa Anna It began in the pre dawn darkness of March 6, 1836 Mexican general Santa Anna ordered an assault force of 1800 men to unleash its fury on a tiny band of Texans defending a fort called the Alamo. The history behind this tells how Texas was torn away fromMexico, and became part of the United States. This may have been a victory of Santa Anna; however was an even greater victory for the humanity of the defenders. Many believed this was a race war; however was an issue of competing political systems. Santa Anna prepared to give command that would unleash attack. While the weary Americans were catching up on sleep for the first time in two weeks, a Mexican began hollering and yelling, which awoke a sleeping inside soldier. In the video "Remember the Alamo", Santa Anna was believed to be a skilled general and a hero of Mexico's fight for Independence from Spain. Santa Anna became president in 1833 implicating federalism but only for a short time. He later changed and suspended the Constitution of 1834 seeing federalist autonomy as a threat to the stability of Mexico and his own grip on power. He very quickly shifted from being a federalist to a centralist to a dictator. Those like Travis that had once stood behind Santa Anna, are now right in front of his guns. For Six Months During 1835 And 1836, The People Of Texas, For six months during 1835 and 1836, the people of Texas, both Tejanos and colonist, fought for their independence from Mexico and from Santa Anna, who had been establishing new, stricter laws for those in Texas. In the most iconic battle of this revolution, the men at the Alamo went beyond what was expected of the typical Texas soldier in the revolution and their deaths created a thirst for revenge that lasted through the rest of the war. It was this thirst for revenge that played a significant role in the success at the Battle of San Jacinto. As was true with the rest of the Texas revolutionaries, there was variety in the group of men who fought at the Alamo. They were freemen and slaves, Tejanos' and Texans, those who were willing to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Fannin 's attitude is not necessarily representative of the rest of the Texas Army, there was certainly a difference between the Texas Army and the men at the Alamo. Although all of the soldiers fighting in the revolution were putting their lives at risk, the men at the Alamo knowingly sacrificed their lives because of their commitment to their cause. Prior to the battle of the Alamo, San Antonio was taken by the Texas army with significant help from the local Tejanos population. Approximately 160 Tejanos fought, many from the city to which they were laying siege. While having the Tejanos on the same side as the Texans was incredibly beneficial, the relationship began to fall apart quickly, due in part to the Texas soldiers need for supplies and their lack of funds. The Texans started to simply take what they needed, be it crops or livestock. Although farmers and ranchers received assurances that they would be reimbursed in the years following the war, it was small comfort. Another problem was the difference in what the two groups were trying to accomplish. While the Texans were seeking complete freedom from Mexico, the majority of Tejanos wanted to become a Federalism within Mexico. This difference in end goals coupled ... • 33. Robert De Niro's Taxi Driver Robert De Niro's terrifyingly realistic portrayal of Travis Bickle, a lonely Vietnam war veteran in the film Taxi Driver, is a performance that has captivated audiences for more than thirty years and that will never be forgotten. De Niro's masterful performance sees him use complete control over his body and voice to allow his characterization of Travis to reflect a certain atmosphere. With only minimal speaking throughout, he manages to use subtle facial, body, and eye movements to expose the film's themes of loneliness, alienation, anger, and redemption. In fact, the opening scene itself is a perfect example of how subtle gestures can effectively convey a film's mood. The very first scene exposes a pair of fatigued eyes, moving slowly from one side of the screen to the other with an anxious expression. De Niro, with the use of only a pair of eyes, catapults the viewer into the dark, surreal world of New York City, the space in which his severely disturbed character inhabits. ... This viewpoint from Bickle could even reflect Scorcese's message to the people of America that perhaps, we need to clean up a little bit. Gunshots rang through the air, echoing through the trees; yet the white flag flew high above us. Bullets rained from the sky knocking leaves and needles from the tree limbs and cut perfect circles through our tepees. An infant cried out hidden in the blood of his dead mother. Then, in the shower of deadly metal, a silver raindrop passed through the infant's head and for one fateful second, everything became silent. Yet the rain of death persisted causing even more fatalities. I remember running as fast as my legs could carry me, trying to keep up with the rest of our people while doing my best to hide from the rain of death falling from the heavens. Dehydrated and weak, I could run no further and collapsed in the vast plains with my travois in tow behind me. For the next moon, my brothers and sisters walked in a straight line, following the star that never move. Every day cycled into the same pattern, walking stopping, eating, sleeping, and repeating. The sun rose and fell so many times we lost count. Finally, we came into contact with aCheyenne buffalo hunt who brought us back to camp upon specific requirements. ... The Texas revolutionary war was a great battle between Mexican Republic and the Texas Colonists. The Texas Revolution was also known as the Texas War of Independence. What will be discussed throughout the research paper are the battles that took place throughout the revolutionary war. The paper will explain how these battles shaped the wayTexas Independence was won and how it shaped the future for Texan colonists. The battles of Gonzales, Goliad, The Alamo, and the finalbattle of San Jacinto played the biggest roles in the Texas Revolution A little history before we start diving into the significance of the battles, there some precursors to the beginning of the conflict. There were a lot of political and cultural clashes between the Mexican government and American settlers in Texas. In the 1820 's, this was in the early stages. Mexico wanted to attract settlers to the state known as Coahuila which is known as Texas today. The American settlers where wanting to go because the land was good for farming and ranching. • 39. Social Worker Reflection Paper In this video, the social worker's role was that of a therapist. Dr. Siri Singh sat with his client to discuss some of the issues Kathryn Hudson and her alter ego Katy Perry has been experiencing over the years. Kathryn sought guidance, acceptance, affirmation and explanation with this session and I do believe the therapist was able to achieve this for his client. The therapist, or Dr. Singh, created a safe environment for Kathryn to speak her mind. In the very beginning of the session, the therapist tells Kathryn to sit back and relax, in an attempt to help Katy feel that this is a nurturing and comfortable space for her; and I perceived it to have been an effective strategy for therapist and client in this situation. Dr. Singh was asked probing questions and actively listened through out the entire session, which builds trust with the client. I perceived his body language to be very open, because he had his chest facing towards her; this arms by his side and legs leanly outwardly. This type of body language suggests openness and that the person is willing to receive information. Dr. Singh also practiced very good verbal and non–verbal cues that he was actively listening to his client as they spoke. He would nod his head, and every few minutes say, "yes", to signal his understanding. Danish, D'Augelli, and Hauer explain this to be self–disclosure, using verbal and non–verbal expressions. Examples include smiling, shaking ones head in disbelief, or in the case with Dr. Singh, nodding his head. Another technique the therapist used that builds trust was his consistent determination to not let Kathryn speak negatively about herself (17:00, 21:51, 27:58, 31:08). I believe this to be a vital skill and important detail to ay attention to and I commend the therapist for making that important. This ties in with the empowerment theory, I believe. Dr. Singh, instead of letting the client say something negative about herself he would have the client use a different and more positive term. An example of this was when Kathryn described herself as bizarre, and the therapist said he did not like that word, and helped his client think of a more positive descriptive word such as exotic, intriguing or eccentric. • 42. Martin Scorse's Taxi Driver Martin Scorses's Taxi Driver is the distinct cry of mid–1970's America. American society was becoming fabricated, alienated, and distrustful. Above all, American society was throwing away the values of the older days and trying to replace its anger and discontent with violence and paranoia. In the film the viewer is painfully close to its main character, Travis Bickle. This is written in a narration form of a diary he writes in from time to time. Bickle is consistently portrayed as a lonely but unrecognized veteran of the Vietnam War. After serving the war, Bickle tries to find some sort of purpose in a new 1970's America. However, the protagonist finds himself often alienated from society as well as disgusted by it. Bickle goes through several phases of crises, which all lead up to violence. This is majorly due to his experiences as a war veteran and his inability to conduct himself along with his emotions in a normal manner. The Vietnam War was the first war to be televised and this was a shock to the American people. It was able to show the most gritty and realistic side of war, which was very unlike the glorified visions of victory and valor that films had portrayed. The veterans of war were promised a homecoming and instead, they were unwelcomed and homeless. For the rest of the American public, living was becoming uncontrollable and so was the government. Society's issues such as abandonment and rotting cities were also touching Hollywood and its filmmakers. Old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
