Iceberg Kills Titanic, Warnings
Iceberg destroys Titanic, warnings ignored. On April 15, 1912 at approximately 2:20am, the RMS Titanic sank into the ocean after crashing into a
towering iceberg, 640km south of Newfoundland, Canada. More than 1500 people have died, tearing apart relationships and families. The
whereabouts of the ship is still unknown and many fear the worst. The captain and crew has been blamed for this incident and is now facing public
scrutiny. The Titanic was on her maiden voyage from Britain to America when the crew received a warning from the RMS Caronia reporting heavy
ice in the area. The crew decided to foolishly ignore the warning and continued on at top speed. Then, another warning from the RMS Baltic also
seriously warned the crew about the icebergs

Research Paper On The Titanic's Maiden Voyage
The TItanic's maiden voyage was a disaster because the people who control the ship didn't listen to warnings. They believe that it was impossible
for her to sink. They were confident as well, and which they ignore all warnings of icebergs in their way. Also due for them to be a little careless,
they went didn't went slow and easy ,but yet fast so they can arrive a bit early. Obviously this failed since they all sunk with the Titanic's herself. If
only they were more careful about their ships then who ships is the most quick. For example, the person who control the ship never took the warnings
of icebergs seriously since he was so determined that she was "unsinkable". He also didn't took any caution which he made the ship go faster. Since

10 Causes Of The Titanic
The titanic sank on April 14–15 1912 and killed 1,514 people. The titanic weighed 46,000 tons and was 882 feet long. There was 3,500 passengers
including the crew, and the titanic had nine decks on it.The ship was going from New york to Southampton. England. The Titanic had to cross the
Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic sank because the ship was going to fast, the captain ignored at least 5–6 warnings, and there was to few lifeboats on the
titanic because they wanted to make the Titanic look pretty. My first reason is, the Titanic was going to fast. In the article I read 10 causes of the
"Titanic Tragedy" it stated " Many Titanic Ologists have said that the ship's captain, Edward J. Smith, was aiming to better the crossing time of the
Olympic."

How To Save The Titanic Persuasive Essay
Most builders of the ship thought that if they added more lifeboats would disquite the first–class passengers and ruin their view of the ocean and didn't
add them.
If the crew would have seen the iceberg 30–seconds sooner, and changed the course, the chances of the Titanic being saved could be increased.
The Titanic is the only ever ocean liner to be sunk by an iceberg.
There was a Japanese person aboard the ship who survived the sinking and made fun of, being called a coward, by his country for not dying with the
other passengers.
Almost 12 newlyweds were on their honeymoon aboard the Titanic.
The iceberg that sank the Titanic began growing sometime around 1000 BCE.
If most people would have use the lifeboats, 53% would have survived, but

Iceberg Theory In Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants
Ernest Miller Hemingway is known for his unique style and theories of writing, especially the iceberg theory. In the Death of the Afternoon,
Hemingway says that "The dignity of movement of an ice–berg is due to only one–eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because
he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing." (92) Simple words, vivid images, rich emotions and deep thoughts are the four
basic elements of the iceberg theory. Talk about how these stories illustrate four elements of theory. In both short stories, Hemingway describes
scenery and characters with simple words directly to give readers a vivid image. Under this sketch, readers can know characters' emotion and get the
theme through their imagination and analysis. First, Hemingway uses concise words to describe characters and scenery to show a vivid image.
Readers can image by themselves through description to analyze characters' emotions. In "Hills Like White Elephants", Hemingway describes
characters little. This short story basically consists of a dialogue between a man and a woman. In the short story, Hemingway barely provides the
information of characters so that this short story can be generalized in one sentence: a man and a woman are waiting for the train to Madrid on the
roadside. Because of the hot weather, they keep drinking beer, while discussing an operation. Actually, in this novel, characters are always talking about
this vital operation. This operation exists as

Who Was To Blame For The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic was a ship that sunk during its maiden voyage in 1912. This big ship was on it's way to New York when it struck an iceberg. It was
believed to be "unsinkable" but that night it met it's fate and sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it's the icebergs fault for the
sinking of the ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. They are responsible for this tragedy because
they went full speed after ignoring six ice warnings. Not only that but they should've thought of the consequences when they decided to take off
lifeboats for more room for luxury items. Then they weren't prepared and never had any drills or safety procedures for if the ship were to sink. It

Over fifteen thousand years ago an ordinary mass of ice emerged from nature and commenced its destiny of becoming the world's most famous iceberg
(www.titanicuniverse.com). This notorious mass of ice came to existence thousands of years ago as a lone fragment of snow which eventually
accumulated for a multitude of ages. While the flurries continuously descended along the shores of Greenland, the snowflakes were simultaneously
being condensed into one of the most critical abominations in recorded history (www.titanic–titanic.com). Once the timing of the intemperate
environment had reached the year of 1909, the glacier was then fractured and allowed for the ice's secession from its customary location and the

The time it took for the wireless operators to pass along the telegraphs, which contained critical information, was extremely protracted
(www.titanic–titanic.com). The majority of the time a message would not reach the correct authority until a few hours after the telegraph had been
received. For example, an assistant wireless operator, Harold Bride, received an ice warning from the S.S. Californian and attempted to locate the
captain. When he eventually discovered the captain, he would not take the message due to the fact that he was dining with guests. Another account
being, when the Californian sent a message to the Titanic revealing that they had stopped for the evening due to hazardous ice, the operator at the time
replied for them to shut up because he was attempting to complete the passenger telegraphs. If the Titanic would have paid more attention to this and
numerous other warnings, the horrendous catastrophe may not have even occurred

The tip of the iceberg. Thats what brought down the greatest ship of its day. It's the reason 1,500 people died in one of the deadliest maritime disasters
in the world. The Titanic. When the Titanic was built it was the largest and most luxurious passenger liner at the time. It was also considered to be
completely unsinkable.
The hull weighed a total of 25,000 tonnes and used 825 tonnes of coal per day. The Titanic had three bronze propellors that weighed 92 tonnes. So it
was obviously a very heavy ship and could not turn rapidly to avoid icebergs. The amount of time between the sighting of the iceberg and of the impact
was 30 seconds. 76% of the crew died and 80% of all male passengers aboard died. Only 25% of females aboard died. At the ... Show more content on

The typical maximum life expectancy for the victims in the water was 15 – 45 minutes.
The ship was given several nicknames including "Ship of Dreams," "Wonder Ship," "Last Word in Luxury," and "Millionaire's Special." There were
many very wealthy people aboard the ship, who were living it up in first class. The first class accommodation was designed to be the height of comfort
and luxury, with an on–board gymnasium, swimming pool, libraries, high–class restaurants, a hospital with an operating room and a squash court. A
wireless telegraph was even provided for the convenience of passengers. You can see why it cost $400 billion dollars in todays currency to build.
The cost of a first–class ticket on Titanic to New York was approximately $57,200 today. The most expensive rooms were more than $103,000 in
today's currency. A third–class ticket on the Titanic cost approximately $900 today. Up to 10 people stayed in third–class rooms and the rooms were
divided by male and female often splitting families up. There were only two bathtubs for the more than 700 third–class passengers aboard the Ship
There was some speculation that a novel anticipated the Titanic disaster.
The plot of the book described a very close resemblance to the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic, published 14 years before the voyage. The
book tells the story of the Titan: "The largest ship ever built, thought to be 'unsinkable' by

Titanic Sinking Research Paper
The Causes of the Titanic Sinking. There were many possible causes for the Titanic sinking, yet some were more blameable than others, and some
may have had nothing to do with it at all. Bad omens were at the bottom of my diamond structure (least important) as it is mere superstition and
cannot be proved at all. The snapping ropes and near miss with the docks may simply be coincidental, and after the Titanic sunk, the events were
wrongly linked together. Next were the rivets and the turning on the Titanic, joint near the bottom. I put the rivets here because this is a case of
"what if" rather than hard evidence that this was the cause. This also means that even if the rivets were different, the ship might still have sunk
anyway, therefore was not as important as some of the other possibilities. As for the turning speed, that can be put down to design error. As it was the
first cruiser of its size, the designers may not have thought they required turning speed as quick as a warship of the same size, so they may have made
the rudder smaller. However, if the Titanic had not turned at all, and sailed straight into theiceberg, it would have sliced through rather than being hit ...

Weather and visibility is the most important one in this tier of the diamond because it made it difficult to see the iceberg as they approached it.
The moon was not out and the water was calm, so it would have been hard to spot in the dark. Less calm water would have caused water to break
around the iceberg, making it more visible. However, they knew they were in iceberg territory, and could have taken more care. Bruce Ismay is also
in this tier because he encouraged the crew to stay at top speed as they passed through the iceberg territory, which would be dangerous because it
would make it a lot harder to dodge or avoid major icebergs, especially with the bad weather

Was The Titanic Doomed From The Start?
The Titanic set sail on its Maiden voyage from Southampton, England on the day of April 10th 1912 ("Titanic"). As people waved goodbye to their
loved ones from the docks no one could have imagined that the ship was destined for the ill fate that took so many lives.
In some experts opinions the Titanic was doomed from the start. Like most star–liners from the time period, the Titanic featured water tight doors in the
bottom of the ship's haul to keep water from spreading to different areas of the ship in the event of a catastrophe. However, one flaw of these doors
was if one of these compartments was flooded, water could spill in over the top into different parts of the ship. This could have been avoided sense

Each person was given a life jacket but survival wasn't very likely in –4 degree water temperature. As the ship sank lower into the water life boats were
lowered with only half their holding compasity inside. One survivor remembered, "It soon became obvious to some of us that we weren't going to be
finding any safety in one of those life boats" ("The Sinking of the Titanic, 1912").
Out of the 2,200 passengers on board only 705 survived. Only 705 people out of 2,00 watched as the titanic lifted up out of the water and slide silently
into her watery grave ("Titanic").

Slavitt Vs Hardy
Title
The Titanic was one of the largest ships that has ever been made. On its first voyage, the Titanic quickly ceased after encountering an iceberg. In the
poem, "Titanic", David R. Slavitt gives a brief description of the Titanic and how the world has remembered the legend. In a different poem, "The
Convergence of the Twain", Thomas Hardy illustrates the impact an Immanent Will had on the crashing of the Titanic. Both, Slavitt and Hardy
challenge the views that people have on the legend of the Titanic by applying tone as well as creating a duality of expectations and reality.
Through tone, the authors portray each way the Titanic should be identified by using effective word choice. Many lives were lost on the Titanic that
day, but instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slavitt correlates the Titanic to the world while Hardy challenges whether or not the crashing off the Titanic was choice or fate. Slavitt implies that the
world becomes numb to death and tragedy by writing, "And the world, shocked, mourns, as it ought to do and almost never does." When tragedies
similar to the Titanic happen, people overlook and forget the events until another tragedy happens. With the improvement of communication through
technology, news and events are shared at the speed of sound. Every few seconds bears a new tragic event; for instance, the lives lost in the Boston
Massacre, the bar shooting in Orlando, and numerous school shootings fade into the chaos each day brings. Hardy previews the conception of the
Titanic happening by choice or by fate. Hardy mentions, "The Immanent Will that stirs and urges everything...A Shape of Ice, for the time far and
dissociate," formulating that fate forced the Titanic to crash into the iceberg(18–21). Hardy signifies the crash happened because of the pride the
architects acquired of their magnificent structure. According to prior knowledge of the short sail at sea, the captains of the ship had the choice of
taking a test run, turning around after having a fire on board, or simply cruise at a slower pace. Hardy reminds of the hurried departure and the idea
that the crash rested in the hands of an

Cause Of Titanic Research Paper
The Titanic event was a disaster and tragedy, but it could've been prevented somehow. That's why someone caused this horrible thing to happen. So
if someone caused who? Well, here's who I think could've done it. Captain Smith is the first person I thought could've caused the Titanic to sink.
Captain Smith planned a special dinner for some first class people. If he didn't plan it that night he could've stopped the Titanic from sinking. But
also he was not concerned about the warnings they got about the icebergs. Either he thought it would blow over as they go and there wouldn't be any
icebergs in their way or he heard about the icebergs himself. The other people I thought did it were Jack Phillips and Harold Bride they were the ones

Examples Of Metaphors In The Convergence Of The Twain
Pride, a human flaw, creates destruction and the insatiable desire for more. It leads to testing nature and eventually to downfall. On April 14, 1912 the
Titanic and its unsinkable pride collided with an iceberg. The people onboard noticed the Iceberg too late to avoid it. In "The Convergence of the
Twain" , Thomas Hardy expressed his belief that fate brought down the Titanic due to humanpride though his descriptions of the ship and its people
and his descriptions of nature and the iceberg. Hardy uses metaphors, personification, and irony to prove the ship's fate was set as soon as humans
believed her greater than nature. By comparing the ship to beautiful inanimate objects, the reader can see the destruction and uselessness of beauty.
The Titanic is "jewels in joy designed" to attracted the "sensuous mind." The Titanic, beautifully crafted by thousands of hands and great patience
stunned and mesmerized the human mind just as jewels do. The ship's beauty did not aid it in the end. The ship now "lie[s] lightless" with all it's
shine "bleared and black and blind." This beauty's final destination ends in the cold ocean waters lying useless and dull as fated. People created this
ship with an enormous pride that even the ship could not contain it, its crown set too high. It tested nature with its vanity and nature retaliated. Hardy
criticizes the ship on her pride, where she only has herself to blame. Hardy uses personification to give the ship life and personality.

How Did The Titanic Collapse
When the Titanic hit the iceberg, the iron rivets and steel failed because of fractures. Failure in structural materials caused brittle fracture due to low
temperature and extreme impact loading. The night of the collision, water temperature was below freezing, the ship travelled normal speed it was these
fast speed that made the watertight compartment to bust open, the hull steel had high levels of sulphur. Too much sulphur in steel mixed with cold it
becomes brittle.instead of the steel deforming or denting the steel it cracks and splits.

The Titanic was a passenger ship, not a battleship, so it was not built to take on huge icebergs. It states in the article that nothing was wrong in the
building of the Titanic, but anything is possible. Man's error could have been a big factor with the sinking. The ship was built among time pressures,
not because of cost, which put a huge strain on the shipyard. If the builders were given more time, then mayne the ship would have been stronger and
could have withstanded more. Higher quality rivets and thicker hulls might have kept the Titanic afloat for much longer.

the night it sank. The passengers panic, the unnoticed iceberg, and the sinking of the ship was portrayed effortlessly in the movie. Toward the end of

The Sinking of the Greatest
My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an awfully big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and
weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest ship ever actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built byHarland and Wolff, which was a
ship building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship on March 31, 1909 and launched the final ship project
on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think they finished it really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of approximately
900. Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those 3,300 plus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what they got, more than expected. They spent a total of
$7,500,000 ($174 million in today's money) to build the ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of
careless mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the disaster. However the Titanic could have been saved had
just a few of these events not happened. If people would listen to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have been avoided. If the
caption had been listening to the six warnings that he was given then the ship have been able to steer away from the iceberg. It doesn't take much
effort to steer the ship away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least you could do is move the
ship a little bit to get away from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed down because they were going too fast, they would have seen the iceberg
sooner, and would have been able to think about what to do. That would have given them more time to avoid

The Titanic Imagine being trapped on a sinking ship with only a small chance of making it out alive. This situation was experienced by thousands of
people on the Titanic in April of 1912. Devastatingly, only 705 out of 2,200 people survived this shipwreck. This wreck was caused by a fifty to one
hundred feet high and a two hundred to four hundred foot long iceberg. Due to the unforeseen environmental and structural weaknesses, the Titanic was
doomed to sink. The Titanic had multiple reasons to why it sank. More than half of those reasons were structural causes. One of the structural causes
was the ship's weight. The Titanic weighed over 46,000 tons, which caused it to sink in less than three hours. Vicky Bassett, senior in Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, states that, "According to the builders of the Titanic, even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship
should have stayed afloat for two to three days." The reason the Titanic should have stayed afloat was because of the sixteen major weight

One of those causes was that the iceberg put a hole in the ship. This could have been prevented; unfortunately, the ship was traveling at a high speed
when coming in contact with the iceberg. Another cause that didn't help when the Titanic sank was the water temperature. The temperature was below
freezing, which made the survival time for the people in the water just under fifteen minutes. The water temperature was twenty–eight degrees
Fahrenheit when the ship sank. This cause took many peoples' lives. The last environmental cause for the Titanic sinking was that the lookouts spotted
the iceberg only 1/4 of a mile ahead of them before they hit it. The reason the lookouts did not spot the iceberg sooner was because it was half way
under water, creating an optical

Why Is The Titanic Unsinkable
The Titanic, an unsinkable ship, was making its journey around the world and suddenly capsized. There were three classes on the ship that were based
on how much money one payed to travel on the Titanic. The people on the Titanic had been given false hope, and even though the Titanic was made to
be unsinkable, it sank with many of its occupants.
The Captain was given many warnings about the dangers ahead. "'We are stuck here, surrounded by ice,'" the Californian warned. The Titanic did not
listen though, instead, they blew off the warning saying, "'you are jamming my signals.'" Another cause of the boat sinking was its speed. "At
twenty–two knots, its speed unslackened, the Titanic plowed through the night." Though hearing warnings of icebergs,

This book written by Walter Lord reminds us about the legendary disaster about the ship, Titanic. It can be a relieved to those who survived and can be
never forget of many who did not. In conclusion, I was amazed of the facts present in the book that gathered from the survivors. The survivors have two
qualities in common: being spectacular and wonderfully thoughtful. They were at their most generous and contempt any touch of selfishness to

Vicki Bassnet: The Breakdown Of The Titanic
I am coming to you over 100 years ahead in time, and I have come to tell you that the Titanic cruise ship you are about to aboard is very much
unsafe. The author that posted this information is Vicki Bassett. The purpose of my letter is to inform your family of the design flaws of the Titanic
so you don't die. I have seen the death toll, about 1500 people died on the Titanic the night of the disaster. Only 700 survive, and your family is not a
part of that. The hull steel, failed rivets, and there were also flaws in the watertight compartments of the Titanic. The Titanic suffered from several
detrimental flaws right before it had even set sail! You should completely eliminate the Titanic from your calendar and schedule a vacation somewhere
else because if you go on the Titanic you are walking into a death trap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Imagine having to balance your weight on a pack of pencils, and that's how brittle the steel used on the Titanic's hull was. There was a piece of the
hull that had been recovered and scientists had gone forward to examine that piece of steel. They concluded that the steel was of very poor quality.
"Jagged and sharp, the edges of the piece of steel appeared almost shattered, like broken china." (Bassett 44). The Titanic had a sister ship, Olympic,
which collided while leaving the harbor on September 20, 1911. A similar outcome had occurred when another cruise ship had collided into Olympic.
"A 36–foot high opening was torn into the starboard side of the Olympics' hull when a British cruiser broadsided her. Failure of the riveted joints and
ripping of the hull plates were apparent in the area of impact." (45). The build of the Titanic was more cheap and bad built than quality made and

Titanic Cause And Effect
Claire D'Amore Mrs. Paine 2A English 10 February 2016 Cause and Effect Essay: Sinking Ships Intro ( Describing background of the act, as well as,
stating opinion )– In 1912, the unsinkable titanic careened into a hidden iceberg, destroying the ship in it's entirely along with 1,500 lives. Majority
of the passengers died due to the lack of lifeboats that the ship provided. The survival rate for women was 74%, children 52%, and surprisingly for
men was 20%. Human impulse accounted for men's rash decision to choose death with courage when the titanic splintered into the bank of ice.
Describe the need for The Altruistic Act on the Titanic (DNA)– Humans are made to be wonderful, creative caring creatures that, if the occasion called
for it, they would help another who shares the same intentions. However, this statement is based upon the blood that runs through our veins. Human
behavior is nothing but various, we either think of ourselves or of others. Even though it doesn't seem like it, our DNA dictates our life choices. Natural
instincts pull us in different directions during different situations. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The panicked passengers of the Titanic, rushed out of their quarters to the limited lifeboats around the ship. Male passengers went out of their ways,
risking their lives, to help the women and children of the ship. These men had every right to push the women and children out of their way and save
their own life, yet they didn't. Instead, they push the women and children to the front lines of the lifeboats with no consideration of the wealth of the
passengers they were pushing. They were able to override the screaming human instinct to save one's self. The conduction of the passengers
demonstrates, the built–in moral sense that humans have within, which leads us to act altruistically, even if we are unaware the nature of it is

White Star Line: The Tragedy Of The Titanic
Tragedy. Sadness. Death. These are all words people would normally use to describe the tragedy of the Titanic, and it's mainly because of the lack of
lifeboats on the ship. However, what most people don't think about are the other factors that contributed to that fateful event. If I could give advice to
anyone, it would be none other than White Star Line, Titanic's creator, because there is something that most people didn't, and still don't know. White
Star Line had created Titanic with many flaws from the start, all of which had led to the sinking of the great ship. If Captain Edward John Smith had
driven the boat safer, the accident might've been prevented. Yes, that's right– Captain Smith was not driving carefully. According to... Show more

If they had played it on the safe side by installing more lifeboats and conducting lifeboat drills, then everyone could've been easily saved.
"Although in early plans Titanic was was to have 32 lifeboats for her full capacity of more than 3000 passengers and crew, they did not consider it
necessary to provide lifeboats for all aboard; they believed that in the event of a mishap, passengers would be safer staying on the big ship than
getting into small lifeboats on the ocean" (Cummins). "There were too few lifeboats, and the lifeboats were not filled because there had been no
practice drills on the ship" (Wilkinson 63). Lastly, in the overconfident words of Captain Edward John Smith, "I cannot imagine any condition
which would cause a ship to flounder... Modern shipping has gone beyond that" (Denenberg 9). As shown by these quotes, Titanic was originally
planned to encompass enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship, but a false sense of security led White Star Line to build the ship with an
inadequate amount of said lifeboats and to have no practice drills. If there had been drills, at least the few lifeboats that were on the ship could've
saved the maximum number of lives. All in all, many more lives could've been saved if more people had gotten into

The Iceberg Memo
How the world communicates is primarily through the media rather than physical face to face communication. This has be known to causes problems
with terms of the financial world but for the non–financial world too. Studies have shown that what this world needs is "Anthropological" prism
which is an approach to connect the dots better yet have the world more on the same track with communications. Problem is this matter is ignored
which tends to have fatal consequences for example the financial crisis in 2008 which is mainly what the article talks about. Anthropologist Gillian
Tett has come up with a method called the "Iceberg memo" which leads to the financial system in 2005 and how a small part of financial information

There are two sides to every story and while media does make it easier on the world to communicate it can cause a whole other mess of problems
that this world has had to deal with. Yet these issues have been seen before hand this world has still ignored the factor and has had to pay the price
for something people think is so small or doesn't matter yet that can be the bottom of the ice berg which is the biggest part to it. Communication is
very important and is the main source of survival so we must treat it like so. I would use these methods in my life because it could have a similar
effect on me where I wouldn't see something bad approaching me but I would at least know that a negative consequence is approaching me. These
certain types of methods not only can have an effect on a single individual but a whole society as well. This is what the term connecting the dots means
from two individuals communicating to a whole society who is using a method of

Who Was Responsible For The Titanic Disaster
Do you know what happened to the legendary Titanic? Do you have an idea of who or what was responsible for the disaster? I have three main
parts from the book "Exploring the Titanic" by Robert D. Ballard, that I believe was responsible for the disaster. Someone I believe is responsible
for the Titanic disaster is Jack Phillips, the "wireless radio" operator. One thing he did was he ignored a message from the Californian, another giant
ship in the Titanic's day, who was cornered in a field of ice nineteen miles North of the Titanic (Page 19). Another thing Jack Phillips did was he didn't
take action himself. He didn't go tell the captain, but his assistant, Harold Bride did instead. This leads to my next important reason. My second reason

A Disaster Is Coming Ahead, But It was Unsinkable They Said
Background
The Titanic was known as the biggest, luxurious, and the"unsinkable" ship. On March 31st, 1909 the Titanic was being constructed in Ireland. It was
about $7,500,000 to construct the boat. Then, on April 10, 1912 at 11:30am the largest ship known to man set sail from Southampton, England to
New York, for a 2 week long voyage. When they set sail there was a fire in the coal bunker that everyone ignored. Before thetitanic hit the iceberg
there were notifications that there were iceberg ahead. When the titanic was sinking it broke in half with one side going down and the other side
floated for a while then sank. The Titanic was remembered of its tragic sinking.
Thesis Statement
The Shipbuilders are responsible for the sinking of the titanic because of the rivets they used, the type of iron they used, and how they focused on the
decoration of this ship more than the structure.
Paragraph 1 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of 3 million rivets, half of the rivets were good Steel rivets and the other half were weaker lower grade wrought iron rivets, "The weaker iron
rivets in the bow popped, opening seams in the hull–and hurrying the ship's demise(USNews.com)." This is affected by the rivets made the ship sink
faster. Another reason why the rivets are important when the titanic, "Hit the iceberg, the force impacted the heads of the rivet s to
break(Historyonthenet.com)."(the weaker rivets) This wouldn't had happened if they used the steel rivets. After that impact the ship snapped in half.
The section where it snapped in half was between the wrought iron rivets and steel rivets. The wrought iron rivets side is what sank

Who Is To Blame For The Tragedy Of The Titanic
The Tragedy of the Titanic
By Karson Lani
On that night April 14: 11:40 p.m. The lookouts spot an iceberg with their bare eyes straight ahead and they veered to the left to hope to miss the
iceberg. Little did the passengers know that they hit the iceberg but up front there was a loud SKREECH! Down in the coal bunker the man was right
there when the side of the boat busted open and after a while five compartments had filled but the ship could only float with four compartments filled
that meant that they had only 2 hours to to get everyone off the boat. After the Titanic sank there was hundreds of people got locked in and some lived
and got rescued while Captain Smith went down with the ship.
Some reasons why the Titanic sank is because they

Titanic Buoyancy Essay
In the early morning of April 15, 1912, the unthinkable happened. After hitting an iceberg, the RMS Titanic, which was thought to be unsinkable,
sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic in over 12,000 feet of water. Of the 2,200 passenger and crew on board the ship, over 1,500 lost their
lives. At the time of her maiden voyage, she was considered to be the largest ship afloat in the world. Several physical principles of buoyancy
explain why any seaworthy vessel, including the Titanic, was able to float. First, Archimedes' Principle states that the buoyant force on an immersed
object is equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. In the case of the Titanic, the buoyant force required to keep it afloat was 588,000,000
Newtons. This is obviously the weight of the Titanic as well ( not the mass ), and the weight of the water displaced. Second, the principle of floatation
states that a floating object displaces a weight of fluid equal to its own weight. In the case of the Titanic, the volume of water... Show more content on

The iceberg ripped a hole in the hull of the ship, and damaged six of the watertight safety compartments. These compartments actually lead to the ship's
demise. When the water began to pour into the ship, the crew sealed each compartment filling up with water. However, these compartments never had a
roof section. Therefore, the water could fill the next compartment and the next until the ship sank. The main purpose of these watertight compartments
was to isolate parts of the ship, should the ship take on water. However, since the compartments were built without a roof, they were somewhat useless
in preventing the vessel from taking on too much water. As the ship began to take on more and more water, the weight of the ship became greater than
the weight of the water the ship displaced. In other words, the weight of the ship exceeded the buoyant force, and the ship

Who Was Responsible For The Titanic
Have you ever wanted to know who was responsible for the sinking of the titanic? well I'm going tell you because this is the biggest boat crash
with the most fatalities in history. Why should you care? Because I have a theory about the sinking of the titanic. I believe that captain smith was the
person who was responsible for the sinking of the titanic because of multiple reasons. One of the reasons I think captain smith is responsible is
because of the iceberg warning thing. One iceberg warning is ok to ignore because he sent people to look for it, but when he ignores seven I thinks
that's the limit because not only are you getting one your are getting six more and means there is a serious ice problem when you get seven. Another

To What Extent Did Stanley Lord Is To Blame For The Titanic
The Titanic was known as the "unsinkable" ship, yet it was taken down by an iceberg while it was carrying 2,208 passengers and crew. The ship
took a year to design and two years to build, and the launch of the massive ship was a heavily publicized spectacle whose profits went to a local
children's hospital. Stanley Lord is at fault for more than 1,500 lives lost on April 15, 1912, at 2:20 am. Lord thought the flair signals were
"company rockets", he broke the law while he was captain of the S.S. Californian, and he lied about where the S.S. Californian was when the Titanic
sank. Stanley Lord broke the law while he was captain of the S.S. Californian. The article states ''saw the distress signals of the Titanic and failed to
respond to in accordance with the dictates of humanity, international usage and the requirements of laws.'' The article states, "The committee concludes
that the Californian might have seen all the lost passengers and crew from the ship that went down." Stanley Lord is at fault because he didn't respond
to the distress signal like he was supposed to.

Who Was Responsible For The Sinking Of The Titanic
The Titanic tragedy was not a very happy event, but I am here to share my opinion on the causes of the sinking of it.
After examining all of the evidence, I have concluded that Captain Smith was the most significant cause in the sinking of the Titanic at 80 percent. I
believe he was the main cause because he cancelled the lifeboat drills, and his crew decided to not turn out of the way of the iceberg. Also, only
environmental factors matter if they hadn't crashed into the iceberg.
Many other things aside from Captain Smith also helped in the demise of the Titanic on April 15, 1912. The pie graph indicates that Design &
Construction and Environmental Factors had the least effect on the Titanic's sinking.

Research Paper On The Titanic's Maiden Voyage
The Titanic's maiden voyage was a disaster because of the way the ship was designed. California didn't help them out when they we're stuck in the
disaster. I feel like they should've had a warning about the iceberg or something because for that many people to die because somebody didn't say
anything is just sad. The people should've spoken up. The man that was in charge of the ship should not have been sleep. If it was that deep he
should've told someone or should have switched with someone. There were over 1000 people on the ship and only a few survived because a man
irresponsible fell asleep. Some examples of why The Titanic's maiden voyage was a disaster was because there were many people on the ship that
we're in charge of a lot of responsible things and weren't. A man that was in charge of the ship in the front fell asleep without telling anyone or
without switching up with anyone else. Another example of why it was a disaster was because the ship was going too fast and they didn't see it in
enough time. Also another example is that the iron rivets we're too weak and they couldn't handle it. Their we're only a few boats to save those
people that we're drowning. There weren't many people you could really save on a small boat.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Titanic Persuasive Essay
Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, states that, "According to the builders of the Titanic, even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship
should have stayed afloat for two to three days." The reason the Titanic should have stayed afloat was because of the sixteen major weight
compartments built into it, but because they were damaged from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stanley Lord's Guilty For The Death Of The Titanic
The Titanic was the biggest ship then but it went down faster than anyone would have expected. One iceberg took this humongous ship down on
April 15, 1912. This shipwreck is known as one of the worst things to happen in history. The Titanic held many people, but could not save as many
that were on the ship. Who is to blame? Now with the evidence provided below we know who is guilty for this horrible travesty of 1,500 death. It is
Stanley Lord. He is guilty because he ignored signals for help, he broke the law by not going to help, and he could see the signals and decided to ignore
them and lie about if he saw it or not.
For one thing, Lord ignored the signals for help when he could have went to the wreck to help save people. The text states, ... Show more content on

The text states, "...failed to respond in accordance with the dictates of humanity, international usage and the requirements of laws.'" The text also states,
"...the Californian must have seen the the distress rockets fired from the bridge of the Titanic." This demonstrates that him not going to the crash sight
he is breaking the law. If Stanley Lord would have obeyed the law, he could have saved many lives and not been committing a crime.
Above all, Stanley Lord could see the signals just didn't respond and denies ever seeing them, but it was late so even if he was far away he could
have seen it. The text states, "... that the Titanic's lights were visible to the Californian before she struck the iceberg, and that the Californian must have
seen the distress rockets fired from the bridge of the Titanic." The text also states, "'We told them we were surrounded by ice." This proves that he
would have had to see the signals and there is no excuse for him to not come and help because he said he saw the signals but then gave an excuse for
why he could come and then later says that he didn't see the signals. He is trying to find a million excuses and contradicts what he lied about

Iceberg Kills Titanic, Warnings

  • 1. Iceberg Kills Titanic, Warnings Iceberg destroys Titanic, warnings ignored. On April 15, 1912 at approximately 2:20am, the RMS Titanic sank into the ocean after crashing into a towering iceberg, 640km south of Newfoundland, Canada. More than 1500 people have died, tearing apart relationships and families. The whereabouts of the ship is still unknown and many fear the worst. The captain and crew has been blamed for this incident and is now facing public scrutiny. The Titanic was on her maiden voyage from Britain to America when the crew received a warning from the RMS Caronia reporting heavy ice in the area. The crew decided to foolishly ignore the warning and continued on at top speed. Then, another warning from the RMS Baltic also seriously warned the crew about the icebergs ... • 2. Research Paper On The Titanic's Maiden Voyage The TItanic's maiden voyage was a disaster because the people who control the ship didn't listen to warnings. They believe that it was impossible for her to sink. They were confident as well, and which they ignore all warnings of icebergs in their way. Also due for them to be a little careless, they went didn't went slow and easy ,but yet fast so they can arrive a bit early. Obviously this failed since they all sunk with the Titanic's herself. If only they were more careful about their ships then who ships is the most quick. For example, the person who control the ship never took the warnings of icebergs seriously since he was so determined that she was "unsinkable". He also didn't took any caution which he made the ship go faster. Since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 10 Causes Of The Titanic The titanic sank on April 14–15 1912 and killed 1,514 people. The titanic weighed 46,000 tons and was 882 feet long. There was 3,500 passengers including the crew, and the titanic had nine decks on it.The ship was going from New york to Southampton. England. The Titanic had to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic sank because the ship was going to fast, the captain ignored at least 5–6 warnings, and there was to few lifeboats on the titanic because they wanted to make the Titanic look pretty. My first reason is, the Titanic was going to fast. In the article I read 10 causes of the "Titanic Tragedy" it stated " Many Titanic Ologists have said that the ship's captain, Edward J. Smith, was aiming to better the crossing time of the Olympic." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How To Save The Titanic Persuasive Essay Most builders of the ship thought that if they added more lifeboats would disquite the first–class passengers and ruin their view of the ocean and didn't add them. If the crew would have seen the iceberg 30–seconds sooner, and changed the course, the chances of the Titanic being saved could be increased. The Titanic is the only ever ocean liner to be sunk by an iceberg. There was a Japanese person aboard the ship who survived the sinking and made fun of, being called a coward, by his country for not dying with the other passengers. Almost 12 newlyweds were on their honeymoon aboard the Titanic. The iceberg that sank the Titanic began growing sometime around 1000 BCE. If most people would have use the lifeboats, 53% would have survived, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Iceberg Theory In Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants Ernest Miller Hemingway is known for his unique style and theories of writing, especially the iceberg theory. In the Death of the Afternoon, Hemingway says that "The dignity of movement of an ice–berg is due to only one–eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing." (92) Simple words, vivid images, rich emotions and deep thoughts are the four basic elements of the iceberg theory. Talk about how these stories illustrate four elements of theory. In both short stories, Hemingway describes scenery and characters with simple words directly to give readers a vivid image. Under this sketch, readers can know characters' emotion and get the theme through their imagination and analysis. First, Hemingway uses concise words to describe characters and scenery to show a vivid image. Readers can image by themselves through description to analyze characters' emotions. In "Hills Like White Elephants", Hemingway describes characters little. This short story basically consists of a dialogue between a man and a woman. In the short story, Hemingway barely provides the information of characters so that this short story can be generalized in one sentence: a man and a woman are waiting for the train to Madrid on the roadside. Because of the hot weather, they keep drinking beer, while discussing an operation. Actually, in this novel, characters are always talking about this vital operation. This operation exists as ... • 6. Who Was To Blame For The Sinking Of The Titanic The Titanic was a ship that sunk during its maiden voyage in 1912. This big ship was on it's way to New York when it struck an iceberg. It was believed to be "unsinkable" but that night it met it's fate and sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it's the icebergs fault for the sinking of the ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of the Titanic. They are responsible for this tragedy because they went full speed after ignoring six ice warnings. Not only that but they should've thought of the consequences when they decided to take off lifeboats for more room for luxury items. Then they weren't prepared and never had any drills or safety procedures for if the ship were to sink. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Titanic Research Paper Over fifteen thousand years ago an ordinary mass of ice emerged from nature and commenced its destiny of becoming the world's most famous iceberg (www.titanicuniverse.com). This notorious mass of ice came to existence thousands of years ago as a lone fragment of snow which eventually accumulated for a multitude of ages. While the flurries continuously descended along the shores of Greenland, the snowflakes were simultaneously being condensed into one of the most critical abominations in recorded history (www.titanic–titanic.com). Once the timing of the intemperate environment had reached the year of 1909, the glacier was then fractured and allowed for the ice's secession from its customary location and the advancement towards a tremendous ... The time it took for the wireless operators to pass along the telegraphs, which contained critical information, was extremely protracted (www.titanic–titanic.com). The majority of the time a message would not reach the correct authority until a few hours after the telegraph had been received. For example, an assistant wireless operator, Harold Bride, received an ice warning from the S.S. Californian and attempted to locate the captain. When he eventually discovered the captain, he would not take the message due to the fact that he was dining with guests. Another account being, when the Californian sent a message to the Titanic revealing that they had stopped for the evening due to hazardous ice, the operator at the time replied for them to shut up because he was attempting to complete the passenger telegraphs. If the Titanic would have paid more attention to this and numerous other warnings, the horrendous catastrophe may not have even occurred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The tip of the iceberg. Thats what brought down the... The tip of the iceberg. Thats what brought down the greatest ship of its day. It's the reason 1,500 people died in one of the deadliest maritime disasters in the world. The Titanic. When the Titanic was built it was the largest and most luxurious passenger liner at the time. It was also considered to be completely unsinkable. The hull weighed a total of 25,000 tonnes and used 825 tonnes of coal per day. The Titanic had three bronze propellors that weighed 92 tonnes. So it was obviously a very heavy ship and could not turn rapidly to avoid icebergs. The amount of time between the sighting of the iceberg and of the impact was 30 seconds. 76% of the crew died and 80% of all male passengers aboard died. Only 25% of females aboard died. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The typical maximum life expectancy for the victims in the water was 15 – 45 minutes. The ship was given several nicknames including "Ship of Dreams," "Wonder Ship," "Last Word in Luxury," and "Millionaire's Special." There were many very wealthy people aboard the ship, who were living it up in first class. The first class accommodation was designed to be the height of comfort and luxury, with an on–board gymnasium, swimming pool, libraries, high–class restaurants, a hospital with an operating room and a squash court. A wireless telegraph was even provided for the convenience of passengers. You can see why it cost $400 billion dollars in todays currency to build. The cost of a first–class ticket on Titanic to New York was approximately $57,200 today. The most expensive rooms were more than $103,000 in today's currency. A third–class ticket on the Titanic cost approximately $900 today. Up to 10 people stayed in third–class rooms and the rooms were divided by male and female often splitting families up. There were only two bathtubs for the more than 700 third–class passengers aboard the Ship There was some speculation that a novel anticipated the Titanic disaster. The plot of the book described a very close resemblance to the events surrounding the sinking of the Titanic, published 14 years before the voyage. • 9. Titanic Sinking Research Paper The Causes of the Titanic Sinking. There were many possible causes for the Titanic sinking, yet some were more blameable than others, and some may have had nothing to do with it at all. Bad omens were at the bottom of my diamond structure (least important) as it is mere superstition and cannot be proved at all. The snapping ropes and near miss with the docks may simply be coincidental, and after the Titanic sunk, the events were wrongly linked together. Next were the rivets and the turning on the Titanic, joint near the bottom. I put the rivets here because this is a case of "what if" rather than hard evidence that this was the cause. This also means that even if the rivets were different, the ship might still have sunk anyway, therefore was not as important as some of the other possibilities. As for the turning speed, that can be put down to design error. As it was the first cruiser of its size, the designers may not have thought they required turning speed as quick as a warship of the same size, so they may have made the rudder smaller. However, if the Titanic had not turned at all, and sailed straight into theiceberg, it would have sliced through rather than being hit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weather and visibility is the most important one in this tier of the diamond because it made it difficult to see the iceberg as they approached it. The moon was not out and the water was calm, so it would have been hard to spot in the dark. Less calm water would have caused water to break around the iceberg, making it more visible. However, they knew they were in iceberg territory, and could have taken more care. Bruce Ismay is also in this tier because he encouraged the crew to stay at top speed as they passed through the iceberg territory, which would be dangerous because it would make it a lot harder to dodge or avoid major icebergs, especially with the bad weather ... • 10. Was The Titanic Doomed From The Start? The Titanic set sail on its Maiden voyage from Southampton, England on the day of April 10th 1912 ("Titanic"). As people waved goodbye to their loved ones from the docks no one could have imagined that the ship was destined for the ill fate that took so many lives. In some experts opinions the Titanic was doomed from the start. Like most star–liners from the time period, the Titanic featured water tight doors in the bottom of the ship's haul to keep water from spreading to different areas of the ship in the event of a catastrophe. However, one flaw of these doors was if one of these compartments was flooded, water could spill in over the top into different parts of the ship. This could have been avoided sense other luxury vessels were already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the ship sank lower into the water life boats were lowered with only half their holding compasity inside. Out of the 2,200 passengers on board only 705 survived. Only 705 people out of 2,00 watched as the titanic lifted up out of the water and slide silently into her watery grave ("Titanic"). • 12. Slavitt Vs Hardy Title The Titanic was one of the largest ships that has ever been made. On its first voyage, the Titanic quickly ceased after encountering an iceberg. In the poem, "Titanic", David R. Slavitt gives a brief description of the Titanic and how the world has remembered the legend. In a different poem, "The Convergence of the Twain", Thomas Hardy illustrates the impact an Immanent Will had on the crashing of the Titanic. Both, Slavitt and Hardy challenge the views that people have on the legend of the Titanic by applying tone as well as creating a duality of expectations and reality. Through tone, the authors portray each way the Titanic should be identified by using effective word choice. Many lives were lost on the Titanic that day, but instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slavitt correlates the Titanic to the world while Hardy challenges whether or not the crashing off the Titanic was choice or fate. Slavitt implies that the world becomes numb to death and tragedy by writing, "And the world, shocked, mourns, as it ought to do and almost never does." When tragedies similar to the Titanic happen, people overlook and forget the events until another tragedy happens. With the improvement of communication through technology, news and events are shared at the speed of sound. Every few seconds bears a new tragic event; for instance, the lives lost in the Boston Massacre, the bar shooting in Orlando, and numerous school shootings fade into the chaos each day brings. Hardy previews the conception of the Titanic happening by choice or by fate. Hardy mentions, "The Immanent Will that stirs and urges everything...A Shape of Ice, for the time far and dissociate," formulating that fate forced the Titanic to crash into the iceberg(18–21). Hardy signifies the crash happened because of the pride the architects acquired of their magnificent structure. According to prior knowledge of the short sail at sea, the captains of the ship had the choice of taking a test run, turning around after having a fire on board, or simply cruise at a slower pace. Hardy reminds of the hurried departure and the idea that the crash rested in the hands of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So if someone caused who? Well, here's who I think could've done it. Captain Smith is the first person I thought could've caused the Titanic to sink. Captain Smith planned a special dinner for some first class people. If he didn't plan it that night he could've stopped the Titanic from sinking. But also he was not concerned about the warnings they got about the icebergs. • 14. Examples Of Metaphors In The Convergence Of The Twain Pride, a human flaw, creates destruction and the insatiable desire for more. It leads to testing nature and eventually to downfall. On April 14, 1912 the Titanic and its unsinkable pride collided with an iceberg. The people onboard noticed the Iceberg too late to avoid it. In "The Convergence of the Twain" , Thomas Hardy expressed his belief that fate brought down the Titanic due to humanpride though his descriptions of the ship and its people and his descriptions of nature and the iceberg. Hardy uses metaphors, personification, and irony to prove the ship's fate was set as soon as humans believed her greater than nature. By comparing the ship to beautiful inanimate objects, the reader can see the destruction and uselessness of beauty. The Titanic is "jewels in joy designed" to attracted the "sensuous mind." The Titanic, beautifully crafted by thousands of hands and great patience stunned and mesmerized the human mind just as jewels do. The ship's beauty did not aid it in the end. The ship now "lie[s] lightless" with all it's shine "bleared and black and blind." This beauty's final destination ends in the cold ocean waters lying useless and dull as fated. People created this ship with an enormous pride that even the ship could not contain it, its crown set too high. It tested nature with its vanity and nature retaliated. Hardy criticizes the ship on her pride, where she only has herself to blame. Hardy uses personification to give the ship life and personality. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Titanic was a passenger ship, not a battleship, so it was not built to take on huge icebergs. It states in the article that nothing was wrong in the building of the Titanic, but anything is possible. Man's error could have been a big factor with the sinking. The ship was built among time pressures, not because of cost, which put a huge strain on the shipyard. If the builders were given more time, then mayne the ship would have been stronger and could have withstanded more. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest ship ever actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built byHarland and Wolff, which was a ship building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship on March 31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think they finished it really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of approximately 900. Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those 3,300 plus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what they got, more than expected. They spent a total of $7,500,000 ($174 million in today's money) to build the ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of careless mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the disaster. However the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not happened. If people would listen to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have been avoided. If the caption had been listening to the six warnings that he was given then the ship have been able to steer away from the iceberg. It doesn't take much effort to steer the ship away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least you could do is move the ship a little bit to get away from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed down because they were going too fast, they would have seen the iceberg sooner, and would have been able to think about what to do. That would have given them more time to avoid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Specifically, he pays very close attention to what happens in the water and the iceberg. This situation was experienced by thousands of people on the Titanic in April of 1912. Devastatingly, only 705 out of 2,200 people survived this shipwreck. This wreck was caused by a fifty to one hundred feet high and a two hundred to four hundred foot long iceberg. The Captain was given many warnings about the dangers ahead. "'We are stuck here, surrounded by ice,'" the Californian warned. These are all words people would normally use to describe the tragedy of the Titanic, and it's mainly because of the lack of lifeboats on the ship. However, what most people don't think about are the other factors that contributed to that fateful event. If I could give advice to anyone, it would be none other than White Star Line, Titanic's creator, because there is something that most people didn't, and still don't know. White Star Line had created Titanic with many flaws from the start, all of which had led to the sinking of the great ship. "There were too few lifeboats, and the lifeboats were not filled because there had been no practice drills on the ship" (Wilkinson 63). Lastly, in the overconfident words of Captain Edward John Smith, "I cannot imagine any condition which would cause a ship to flounder... Modern shipping has gone beyond that" (Denenberg 9). As shown by these quotes, Titanic was originally planned to encompass enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship, but a false sense of security led White Star Line to build the ship with an inadequate amount of said lifeboats and to have no practice drills. After hitting an iceberg, the RMS Titanic, which was thought to be unsinkable, sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic in over 12,000 feet of water. Of the 2,200 passenger and crew on board the ship, over 1,500 lost their lives. At the time of her maiden voyage, she was considered to be the largest ship afloat in the world. Several physical principles of buoyancy explain why any seaworthy vessel, including the Titanic, was able to float. First, Archimedes' Principle states that the buoyant force on an immersed object is equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. In the case of the Titanic, the buoyant force required to keep it afloat was 588,000,000 Newtons. This is obviously the weight of the Titanic as well ( not the mass ), and the weight of the water displaced. Second, the principle of floatation states that a floating object displaces a weight of fluid equal to its own weight. In the case of the Titanic, the volume of water... These compartments actually lead to the ship's demise. When the water began to pour into the ship, the crew sealed each compartment filling up with water. However, these compartments never had a roof section. Therefore, the water could fill the next compartment and the next until the ship sank. The main purpose of these watertight compartments was to isolate parts of the ship, should the ship take on water. However, since the compartments were built without a roof, they were somewhat useless in preventing the vessel from taking on too much water. As the ship began to take on more and more water, the weight of the ship became greater than the weight of the water the ship displaced. The temperature was below freezing, which made the survival time for the people in the water just under fifteen minutes. The water temperature was twenty–eight degrees Fahrenheit when the ship sank. This cause took many peoples' lives. The last environmental cause for the Titanic sinking was that the lookouts spotted the iceberg only 1/4 of a mile ahead of them before they hit it. The reason the lookouts did not spot the iceberg sooner was because it was half way under water, creating an optical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Stanley Lord's Guilty For The Death Of The Titanic The Titanic was the biggest ship then but it went down faster than anyone would have expected. One iceberg took this humongous ship down on April 15, 1912. This shipwreck is known as one of the worst things to happen in history. The Titanic held many people, but could not save as many that were on the ship. Who is to blame? Now with the evidence provided below we know who is guilty for this horrible travesty of 1,500 death. It is Stanley Lord. He is guilty because he ignored signals for help, he broke the law by not going to help, and he could see the signals and decided to ignore them and lie about if he saw it or not. For one thing, Lord ignored the signals for help when he could have went to the wreck to help save people. The text states, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text states, "...failed to respond in accordance with the dictates of humanity, international usage and the requirements of laws.'" The text also states, "...the Californian must have seen the the distress rockets fired from the bridge of the Titanic." This demonstrates that him not going to the crash sight he is breaking the law. If Stanley Lord would have obeyed the law, he could have saved many lives and not been committing a crime. Above all, Stanley Lord could see the signals just didn't respond and denies ever seeing them, but it was late so even if he was far away he could have seen it. The text states, "... that the Titanic's lights were visible to the Californian before she struck the iceberg, and that the Californian must have seen the distress rockets fired from the bridge of the Titanic." The text also states, "'We told them we were surrounded by ice." This proves that he would have had to see the signals and there is no excuse for him to not come and help because he said he saw the signals but then gave an excuse for why he could come and then later says that he didn't see the signals. He is trying to find a million excuses and contradicts what he lied about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
