Benefits Of A Small Business Essay
For centuries, people have taken pleasure in creating plush, green, shaded gardens. Today, over one
million people work in the grounds maintenance industry which creates and beautiful landscapes.
Among the thousands of workers and businesses that comprise the lawn care industry, two groups
exist: large and small companies. Greatly profitable enterprises, as a result of their successful
business strategies, customarily invest profits in the company to increase employment and diversify
the selection of offered services. Consequently, as the company's aptitude to service a larger
clientele increases, the company will expand and thus increase annual revenue allowing the cycle of
growth to continue. Smaller businesses, contrarily, usually do not end operating seasons with
enough financial resources to invest in equipment and personnel. Accordingly, the breadth of a small
business's service does not significantly expand from year to year. Over time, however, smaller
businesses develop and expand. When smaller companies lack the employees to accomplish newly
assumed responsibilities, I find work. Throughout the year, a local business, which manages several
lawn care accounts without a lawn care division, outsources several lawn care jobs to me. With the
help of this research, I hope to improve my service, increase efficiency, and learn methods of
managing and creating service accounts to convince the small business owner of my competency to
manage all of the proprietors lawn

The World Of Small Business
About the Author
Steve 's first foray into the world of small business came when he was an Invisible Fencing dealer.
He operated this business on a part–time basis while remaining employed by a Fortune 500
company called Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). While the Invisible Fencing business was
not very successful, it was a valuable opportunity for him to learn important lessons about business
in a relatively low–risk environment.
For the next two years, he worked on a business plan and waited for the right opportunity to present
itself. In 1994, DEC fell on hard times. Instead of bemoaning this turbulent economic tide, Steve
capitalized on this opportunity. He quit his day job to found Horizon Interactive, a documentation

Broadvision primarily acquired Interleaf for their XML engineers who worked on the product side
of the business. Needing to divest himself from the services business, Steve and a former business
partner acquired the assets of Interleaf's service business and started IC Interactive. They operated
the business for a few more years until they sold it in 2003.
Being a serial entrepreneur, Steve has started and still operates three different businesses. One of his
businesses is focused on real estate. The second one is focused on oil and gas. His third business is a
company designed to help high net–worth investors understand the ins and outs of investing in oil
and gas direct participation programs.
Steve has volunteered his time since 2003 as a mentor for SCORE, a local organization dedicated to
helping entrepreneurs. He has acted as their Chapter Chairman for several years. He is also an
advisory board member of his local Small Business Development Center (SBDC). In this role, he
has acted as a counselor since 2003. In 2012, Steve acted as the interim director of SBDC while they

Business Process Of Small Business
Introduction The process of small business creation requires that entrepreneurs engage significant
analysis and planning. There are many considerations that a potential small business owner must
make to ensure that they are making not only the best decisions for the business itself, but for them
as individuals. Entrepreneurs must identify things such as the product(s) and/or service(s) they wish
to offer to their customers, how they will market their offerings, where they will locate their
business, how they will manage that business, etc. All of these elements play a critical role in the
successful operations and profit earning capabilities of the businesses. This paper sets out to identify
the factors an entrepreneur must consider when deciding on the ownership model for the business. It
will then examine the advantages and disadvantages of starting a business through franchising.
Lastly, this paper will examine the criteria an entrepreneur should evaluate before purchasing an
existing business.
List several factors an entrepreneur should consider before choosing a form of ownership?
One of the most significant decisions an entrepreneur will make will center on the ownership of
their organization (Scarborough & Cornwall, 2014, p. 138). This organizational component is

entrepreneurs must make when selecting the appropriate ownership model of their small business.

Ways to Establish a Small Business Essay
In this modern era, being smart academically, having a bachelor or master title cannot guarantee a
person from having a good job with a good salary. Some people don't satisfy with their current work
because they think that the salary is small and they should deserve more, no wonder there are many
people work in places that are very contrast with their study in the past. Nowadays there are many
independent businesses running both online and offline such as online shops, restaurant, saloon, etc.
Some may think that it is just a part–time job to have an extra salary, but the truth is, we can get a
large amount of incomes if we have a good management skill. Establishing a small business can be

Desires that entrepreneurs possesses can be used as motivations for establishing the business. ("7
Langkah Membuat Usaha Sendiri", 2012) desires that a person possesses may be a short–term such
as successfully establish the business, have clients, to be known by many people or a long–term
desire such as having an increasing income every year.
The next crucial thing that needs to be looked at is managing budget for the soon to established
business. A good businessman should be able to calculate on how much money he or she would
spend his or her career. In many cases an amateur businessman tends to miscalculate the budget, and
ended up getting no profit at all. For beginners, there are many ways to obtain enough budgets to
start a business. A small business may require small amount of budget ( two to tem millions) and it
is possible to obtain the money from his or her own savings.("tips mengawali usaha dengan modal

loan from close friends, family, or even bank. Some people may think that asking for a loan is
somewhat inappropriate, so another way to acquire the budget is to cooperate with someone else, in

two. ("Lima cara memulai usaha dari bawah", 2013)

Small Business Administration : Small Businesses
Introduction
Small Businesses
The Small Business Administration defines small business as a business with 500 employees or less.
Small businesses are well known and acknowledged worldwide as important contributors to
economic development and job creation. They also play a big role in the general health and welfare
of economies, both nationally and internationally. The small business sector represents a statistically
significant proportion of the world economy. (William Gale and Samuel Brown 2013) The U.S.
Small Business Administration (SBA) reported that small businesses represent 99.7 percent of all
employer firms. Small businesses have paid 44 percent of the total United States private payroll, and
generated 64 percent of new jobs since 1995, according to the SBA. Small businesses contribute to
local economies by bringing growth and innovation to the community in which the business is
established. Small businesses also help stimulate economic growth by providing employment
opportunities to people who may not be employable by larger corporations. Small businesses tend to
attract talent who invent new products or implement new solutions for existing ideas. Larger
businesses also often benefit from small businesses within the same local community, as many large
corporations depend on small businesses for the completion of various business functions through
outsourcing.

The opportunity to operate a small business at an affordable cost. For an individual to run a small

In accessing the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEOC) website, I found it very hard to
find a clear and concise reason as to why small businesses were treated differently than the larger
businesses and why the law would differentiate between them. These smaller organizations are
sometimes treated differently by the EEOC because they lack the resources that most large
companies possess. Most small businesses can't afford to hire the best qualified people that larger
businesses can and do. They may not be able to hire people that fit into the different classes (EEOC,
2008). For example, they may want to hire someone with a disabili ty but really can 't afford to

different laws that are enforced by EEOC for small businesses one of which is the Title VII of the

color, religion, national origin, or sex. This law also makes it unlawful to retaliate against a person
because the person complained about discrimination or filed a charged of discrimination (Laws
Enforced by EEOC).
Equal Pay Act of 1963 law is equally important to small businesses. This law makes it unlawful to
pay different salaries to men and women when they both are performing the exact same job. The
Equal Pay Act does not exclude all disparities in wage rates paid men and women but only those
disparities based only on gender (Twomey, D, and Jennings, M.M., 2011, p. 848).
Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, this law also enforced by the EEOC is intended to
protect individuals who are 40 years or older from discrimination because of age. It covers all
private employers with 20 or more employees (small business) (Anderson, R.A., Fox,

Small Business Failure
The importance of small businesses should not go unnoticed in our world as they provide the
backbone to our economy and provide more jobs than one might think (Bagley, 2014). According to
Entrepreneur Magazine and Forbes Online Magazine, there are roughly 25 to 27 million small
companies in the United States (Bagley, 2014). This number accounts for a ballpark estimate of
around 60 to 80 percent of all the jobs in the United States (Bagley, 2014). These modest industries
not only account for the majority of all jobs but they are responsible for spurring on our economy
(Bagley, 2014). The assortment of these businesses ranges from food service, retail stores, specialty
venues, service providers, product oriented industries, or anything else that an entrepreneur can
dream of owning. Despite the colossal number of active and striving small businesses, there's an
unfortunate rate of failure among those, starting up their own companies. For an example, in 2010
alone, there were 96,000 small industries that did not survive the year (Zimmerman, 2011). It's
unfortunate but the majority of all small businesses are unable to stay afloat and keep their doors
open. After an extensive amount of research, there were three factors that stood out as being
significant in the success or eventual failure of a small business. Location, one of the largest
indicators of a company's future successes or failure lies in where it is located. In the 21st century, a
business can find a permanent place

Small Business Technology By Bill Simms
Small Business Technology
It was an ordinary Thursday evening in suburban Richmond, Virginia. 7PM. Bill Simms makes a
right turn on to the expressway ramp in a bid to make it on time to meet his wife for his daughter's
ballet recital. He was happy that his new painting business was beginning to thrive. After being laid
off, it came as a big relief that private home and small business clients were starting to find him.
Though he always had a general affinity for painting, owning a painting company is not what he
imagined doing for a living. Still, it was a blessing that was now manifesting as a provident
financier of ballet slippers. Although Bill's background was in corporate marketing, he experienced
a major learning curve when it came to pitching and selling business services. He soon realized the
impact of not having experience as a painter or small business owner. At the start, he received most
of his assistance from friends, family, and his wife. Everyone would pitch in to keep up with the
back office operations and work flow. As the company grew and became successful, his makeshift
team became overwhelmed and thinned out into a two–man team. His wife, a local teacher, assisted
as best as possible with paperwork while he was in the field servicing clients, but after only a short
period of time, both were overwhelmed with generating proposals, quotes, revisions, and invoices.
The paperwork portion of running the business became a full–time job in and of

Reflection Of A Small Business At A Local Daycare Center...
For this week's discussion in Module One, I reviewed a local daycare center company my mother
works for. The company is a sole proprietorship and is very small. Although, the women who runs
the company takes care of everything, such as the accounting, marketing, and human resource
departments altogether, with some input from within the company, and runs a very structured
company. All the various departments she takes care of do tend towards the same goals and all the
set tasks and responsibilities the company has in place at the time. The owner is very organized and
always stays up to date on everything. She is experienced, but I find that it must be overwhelming to
have all that pressure on your shoulders and that much work to cover. Even though it is a small
company and she does rely on input from the company, it is definitely challenging. After reading
this week's material I do not think my view of the organization reviewed this week changed, but
there is always room for change and some things I may do differently when I open my own small
business one day when it comes to organizational structure and culture. Doing more research and
understanding the topics this week I have been able to better identify benefits among certain
organizational theories, such as employee satisfaction and diversity. Before getting into this topic
diversity management "refers to the various actions organizations can take to ensure that they are
treating all employees (and potential employee) fairly and that they are not discriminating"
(Arvinen–Muondo & Perkins, 2013). For any organization out there, there is a responsibility when it
comes to managing diversity. When I was reading the material this week this question that Edwards
posed stuck with me: "how can we know when we should treat people similarly because of their
similarities, and when is it more fair to treat people differently because of their differences"
(Arvinen–Muondo & Perkins, 2013)? This question is one I have always had and wondered when I
open my own business. It is a challenge that plays in diversity management and one a company has
to figure out. Companies do need to challenge discrimination. If not it causes a lot of people many
disadvantages due to race,

Small Business Failure
According to Forbes.com, "approximately 543,000 new businesses get started each month" (Nazar).
That places the annual total of small businesses created at more than 6.5 million, in the United
States alone. A small business is defined as an enterprise that has less than five–hundred employees.
There is a total of about 28 million small businesses in the U.S. These businesses are responsible for
the employment of roughly 50% of Americans. With an addition 6.5 million businesses being
created annually, you would assume that this number is climbing, however, that is not the case.
More employer businesses close per month than open up (Nazar). As calculated by the Bureau of
Labor Statistics in the United States, the failure rate is as follows; after one year 21.2%, after two
years 32.1%, after five years 51.2%, after ten years 66.6%, and after twenty years 79.6% of all
newly created small businesses fail ("Entrepreneurship"). What is the reasoning being that? Why are
so many small businesses struggling to keep their doors open? There are three main reasons why
businesses that are new and lesser in size struggle to survive and often lead to the shutting down of
these newfound entrepreneurships. These sources of failure include poor decision making due to a
lack of experience, financial issues, and competition from other businesses. Lack of experience is
something that every new businessman or businesswoman has to deal with. No matter how much

Importance Of Small Business
This is great information, what caught my attention was the fact that small business gives equal
opportunity to women and minorities. That is an important factor and that is also one thing that I
feel is key in why small businesses are so important. Upon doing research I learned that small
businesses paid almost fifty percent of the U.S. payroll and this payroll was towards individuals
who may not have been qualified for jobs at larger corporation. The US economy is made up of
various types of people from different walks of life and I feel it is important that all individuals
should have an opportunity for employment so that we can provide for our families and small
business help this become possible.
Small businesses are important to the U.S economy for multiple reasons. According to the U.S

also play a major role in the growth of the individual community that they are located in. Small
businesses give citizens of the community an opportunity for employment by offering jobs that the
individuals may not have to have degrees or accolades to qualify for unlike jobs in larger

(Dr. Sangya Shrivastava 2013) Entrepreneurship has been given much emphasis by organizations
and governments in recent years. It acts as a vehicle for small businesses. We can see the increasing
level of economic development when more of the population gets involved in entrepreneurship
which is basically self–employment. Entrepreneurship plays a critical role in the development of the
economy as this is the key contributor to innovativeness and product improvement. It is one of the
important ingredients to the creation of new employments and in the building of communities in
ways of offering them jobs. By contributing to local charities, taking part in local business, investing

they build up robust communities which contribute to the community development. Governments

Small Business Pros And Cons
With the competition for jobs becoming more and more difficult, instead of applying for some and
crossing their fingers that someone else doesn't get the job before they do, some people are deciding
to start their own small business. A small business is basically a privately owned company that is
run by either a corporation, a partnership, or just a single person. Now, owning a small business
comes with its pros and cons. However, the pros of owning a small business seem to outnumber the
cons. So if I had the choice, I would be interested in owning a small business. Being the owner of a
small business seems to have many benefits. First off, if you decide to work for somebody, then you
can only get paid what they think suits you based off your experience and skills. However, if you
own your own small business, you're able to make much more money because you're able to set
your own price that customers would have to pay for you to provide your goods and/or services.
Tying in with setting your own price points, being the owner of a business means you also get to be
your own boss. You're able to make your own decisions that you believe will turn your small
business into a successful one, such as hiring well–qualified employees to help make it run as
smoothly as possible. Being the boss of your own business also means that no one can fire you, so
you don't have to worry about spending more time looking for another job and stressing over having

Impacts Of Small Business
Small businesses, with large impacts. Many times when you hear the term small business, you think
of a small business that doesn't have the impact on lives such as global retailers. But in fact, all of
the small businesses in the United States make up to 60–80 percent of all U.S. jobs. Small
businesses, really are what fuel our economy and what keep our head above water as an economy.

The three items that almost all small businesses strive for are financial independence, to encourage
innovation, and to create employment opportunities for themselves and others. These business
owners help other people and families by giving them jobs to help support themselves. Once you get
a good start and get through the tough times when it comes to starting it up, you can then have free
reign on your company. That is one of the biggest reasons for being self employed, and that is
having the ability to free lance and be able to express your own ideas and creations however you

The Importance Of Small Business In America
Small businesses in America have existed since civilizations first settled, whether people traded
goods in the place of currency, or offered services and talents for money. Over the past 100 years,
the small businesses and entrepreneurs of America have evolved in ways no one could have
predicted. From the invention of the internet to the sliding scale that is the American economy, small
businesses have seen their times of great success and struggle alike. With the changing culture,
obstacles may morph into opportunities, and, conversely, opportunities can turn into obstacles. The
presence of social media is an opportunity for businesses today but an obstacle for businesses of the
early 20th century; demand was an opportunity for business owners in the 20th century but an
obstacle today; and economic fluctuation is an obstacle found in both time periods. Unlike small
businesses in the early 20th century, small businesses today can greatly benefit from social media
platforms. Not only can businesses run their own pages online, they can pay for ads that promote
their product in a unique and novel way. For example, social media can allow a smaller business to
grow on their chosen platform (such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and increase the amount
of potential customers that view their product(s) or service(s). Everyday, there is an abundance of
advertisements uploaded and viewed on several varieties of social media platforms and "[b]ehind

Many people have a lot of questions when it comes to the new healthcare reform law. First off
Obamacare is formally called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act is the healthcare reform law that was signed in 2010 and now many states
have opened their health insurance marketplace exchanges as of October 1, 2013.
This new healthcare reform law aims to increase the number of Americans that are covered by
health insurance and also to decrease the cost of health care. Under this new law everyone in
America will have to get health insurance of some form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The delay of the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will allow for small
businesses to increase employee hours as well as hire additional employees until 2015 when the
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will take affect for businesses.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act may negatively impact some employees; if an
employee has coverage through its employer the insurance premium must be less than 9.5% of their
income. For example if the employee premium is $3600 a year and the 20% share of the premium is
$720 and the employee makes $45,000 a year; $45,000 x 9.5%= $4275 which is greater than $720.
Therefore this coverage would be deemed affordable. However if this particular employee has a
family of four the premium for the family would be an additional $7500 a year. In this case this
individual would be eligible for tax credits to help afford the health insurance coverage if their
employer did not provide health coverage (Lee, 2013).
The delay of the enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will help and hurt
people at the same time. The delay of the healthcare reform law does not change the January 2014
deadline that mandates all individuals to get health insurance coverage or tax

The small business marketplace is extremely dynamic and the changes are fast. Here are some
encouraging facts from the US Small Business Administration on small businesses. There are about
30 million small businesses in the United States and employ just over half of the country's private
workforce. They employ a staggering 40% of high tech workers such as computer professionals,
scientists and engineers. More than half of the small businesses are home–based businesses and two
percent of them are franchises. One of the most important aspects is the fact that a majority of
innovations in the United States come from small businesses.
In 2008, there were 627,200 new businesses that started, 596,600 businesses that were closed and

No business would abruptly go down and there will definitely be symptoms. If the entrepreneur has
difficulty in paying his bill, market for the product is shrinking and the customer sales is coming
down drastically, these are common signs that the company is not performing well. Another red flag
is when there is an increase in customer complaints, which clearly goes to show that the business is
failing to meet the needs of the customer. The entrepreneur should also ensure that the balance
between inventory and sales levels are correct. If the inventory levels tend to climb at a faster rate
than what the sales warrant, the company is at a risk of piling up the inventory. When the business
has more work than it can handle is another warning of the enterprise not doing well. A lack of
liquidity can also be a cause of business failure. Liquidity is the speed at which an asset can be
converted into cash and if the company does not have enough liquid cash at its disposal, it can lead
to their downfall. A new business venture that provides products or services at the cheapest price in
a desperate quest for making sales is also a sign of struggle.
In order for a new venture to be successful, the management plays a vital role. When a business
grows, it can never be a one–man show, but it needs the management as a whole to take
responsibility. An entrepreneur can have a business model that has the

II. Business Challenge
One of the main challenges businesses face when trying to grow is how to raise the necessary
working capital to achieve the necessary growth, whether for additional employees, inventory or

Assets of the business are usually held as collateral.
Owners of small companies must usually self guarantee the business loan.
Debt financing is typically easier to get than equity financing. If the company is showing good
results and has positive cash flow, debt can typically be raised by going to banks. Though lending is
still tighter than in years past, it has loosened significantly in the last two years allowing for
business growth financing.
Bank loans can be in various forms depending on the company's needs. Typical loans are working
capital loan with a fixed payment of principal and interest for a specific term. Depending on the
strength of the company these loans are usually based around some form of measurement such as
points above or below LIBOR or Prime Rate.
Prime rate in July 2015 is at 3.25% and LIBOR (London Interbank Offered Rate) is approximately
0.81%. Depending on the bank or financial institution a company borrows from will determine
which index is used. Regardless, companies will pay approximately the same based on their
riskiness to the bank as determined by the banks' underwriters.
The average interest rate for a small business loan depends upon a number of factors. One factor is
the size of the loan. For example, loans under $100,000 have a higher interest rate than loans over
$100,000, according to a July rate report by Bloomberg Businessweek.

An Example Of Small Business In The Walt Disney Company
People wonder all the time how companies started out and how they got so successful? An example
of a person who has helped successful people get off their feet. James Dill, the founder of CT,
allegedly is the person that laid down the foundation for the incorporation law ("CT Sponsors 2015
Small Business Week."). They are associated with the SBA, also known as the Small Business
Association. CT Corporation offered a convention like event about recognizing small business and
their contributions to America. These conventions date back to 1963 ("CT Sponsors 2015 Small

confidence, fearlessness, and passion.
This skill is something everybody needs if success is wanted; that skill would be persistence.
Persistence is a good skill to have because it means having a will to continue an action even when
obstacles get in the way. Henry Ford tried making a 4–wheel vehicle mainly running on ethanol.
After failing his attempted on the car, Henry invented the model T as part of his Ford Motor

Another person who had persistence was Walt Disney. He was told at a young age that he "had no

by "going green" and adopting sustainable practices as an attractive opportunity for them to reduce
their costs and increase their profits. For example, a New York–based mass producer of furniture,

its electrical, packaging and shipping costs. Similarly, companies like New Belgium and Aspin
Skiing Co. have also found that "environmental conscience wasn 't divorced from critical business
need", meaning following their corporate responsibility can actually benefit them in terms of
increased revenues (Kramer, 2013). However, the situation is not the same for small businesses in
America.
Small Businesses and Sustainability:
Small businesses or SMEs can be defined as those types of businesses where the total number of
employees is less than five hundred and such businesses have much fewer resources than large
companies (Russell & Young, 2013). These businesses are a source of growth for the U.S. economy
as they bring innovation and new opportunities for jobs in the market. These businesses represent
approximately 99 percent of the US employer firms and contribute greatly towards the creation of
new private sector jobs. Thus if these companies agree to adopt sustainable strategies, this will not
only benefit them but also the entire American economy (Russell & Young, 2013). This makes the

The Importance Of Small Business
Business in a Changing World provides an excellent overall introduction into the world of business.
While studying this textbook, five areas stood out to me as being particularly important and
essential in creating and maintaining a small business. These areas include the following: small
business advantages, using digital media for marketing and advertising, identifying products,
abusive and intimidating behavior and the importance of good communication and organizational
skills. The section on advantages of small business ownerships lists several reasons why an
individual might pursue a small business instead of working for a corporation. For example, some
individuals prefer being their own boss and enjoy crafting their own schedule taking into
consideration their own unique family and lifestyle. Furthermore, the availability of affordable
technology and internet access makes it possible to do certain types of work at home or on a small
scale that in the past would have required the financial support and resources of a much larger
business. Additionally, the list of 10 Successful Traits of Young Entrepreneurs helped me better
evaluate my potential to start and maintain a small business. Digital media is an extremely important
aspect of today's current business climate. Throughout the textbook digital media is referenced as a

In the Academy Marketing Studies Journal, it states,"Since 2008 the number of small businesses

businesses are unable to adapt to their target audience's needs. If the business wishes to thrive and
continue to evolve with modern trends, then an awareness of ever changing strategies is critical to
success. Small business owners start off with a concept and a goal of meeting a need in their

prevalent in meeting those same needs at a larger scale. Therefore, small businesses have

  • 1. Benefits Of A Small Business Essay For centuries, people have taken pleasure in creating plush, green, shaded gardens. • 12. Essay on Small Business Small Business 2 In accessing the Equal Employment Opportunity Office (EEOC) website, I found it very hard to find a clear and concise reason as to why small businesses were treated differently than the larger businesses and why the law would differentiate between them. These smaller organizations are sometimes treated differently by the EEOC because they lack the resources that most large companies possess. Most small businesses can't afford to hire the best qualified people that larger businesses can and do. They may not be able to hire people that fit into the different classes (EEOC, 2008). For example, they may want to hire someone with a disabili ty but really can 't afford to because they would have to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This law also makes it unlawful to retaliate against a person because the person complained about discrimination or filed a charged of discrimination (Laws Enforced by EEOC). Equal Pay Act of 1963 law is equally important to small businesses. This law makes it unlawful to pay different salaries to men and women when they both are performing the exact same job. The Equal Pay Act does not exclude all disparities in wage rates paid men and women but only those disparities based only on gender (Twomey, D, and Jennings, M.M., 2011, p. 848). Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, this law also enforced by the EEOC is intended to protect individuals who are 40 years or older from discrimination because of age. • 15. Small Business Failure The importance of small businesses should not go unnoticed in our world as they provide the backbone to our economy and provide more jobs than one might think (Bagley, 2014). According to Entrepreneur Magazine and Forbes Online Magazine, there are roughly 25 to 27 million small companies in the United States (Bagley, 2014). This number accounts for a ballpark estimate of around 60 to 80 percent of all the jobs in the United States (Bagley, 2014). These modest industries not only account for the majority of all jobs but they are responsible for spurring on our economy (Bagley, 2014). The assortment of these businesses ranges from food service, retail stores, specialty venues, service providers, product oriented industries, or anything else that an entrepreneur can dream of owning. Despite the colossal number of active and striving small businesses, there's an unfortunate rate of failure among those, starting up their own companies. For an example, in 2010 alone, there were 96,000 small industries that did not survive the year (Zimmerman, 2011). It's unfortunate but the majority of all small businesses are unable to stay afloat and keep their doors open. After an extensive amount of research, there were three factors that stood out as being significant in the success or eventual failure of a small business. Location, one of the largest indicators of a company's future successes or failure lies in where it is located. In the 21st century, a business can find a permanent place ... • 16. Small Business Technology By Bill Simms Small Business Technology It was an ordinary Thursday evening in suburban Richmond, Virginia. 7PM. Bill Simms makes a right turn on to the expressway ramp in a bid to make it on time to meet his wife for his daughter's ballet recital. He was happy that his new painting business was beginning to thrive. After being laid off, it came as a big relief that private home and small business clients were starting to find him. Though he always had a general affinity for painting, owning a painting company is not what he imagined doing for a living. Still, it was a blessing that was now manifesting as a provident financier of ballet slippers. Although Bill's background was in corporate marketing, he experienced a major learning curve when it came to pitching and selling business services. He soon realized the impact of not having experience as a painter or small business owner. At the start, he received most of his assistance from friends, family, and his wife. Everyone would pitch in to keep up with the back office operations and work flow. As the company grew and became successful, his makeshift team became overwhelmed and thinned out into a two–man team. His wife, a local teacher, assisted as best as possible with paperwork while he was in the field servicing clients, but after only a short period of time, both were overwhelmed with generating proposals, quotes, revisions, and invoices. The paperwork portion of running the business became a full–time job in and of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Reflection Of A Small Business At A Local Daycare Center... For this week's discussion in Module One, I reviewed a local daycare center company my mother works for. The company is a sole proprietorship and is very small. Although, the women who runs the company takes care of everything, such as the accounting, marketing, and human resource departments altogether, with some input from within the company, and runs a very structured company. All the various departments she takes care of do tend towards the same goals and all the set tasks and responsibilities the company has in place at the time. The owner is very organized and always stays up to date on everything. She is experienced, but I find that it must be overwhelming to have all that pressure on your shoulders and that much work to cover. Even though it is a small company and she does rely on input from the company, it is definitely challenging. After reading this week's material I do not think my view of the organization reviewed this week changed, but there is always room for change and some things I may do differently when I open my own small business one day when it comes to organizational structure and culture. Doing more research and understanding the topics this week I have been able to better identify benefits among certain organizational theories, such as employee satisfaction and diversity. Before getting into this topic diversity management "refers to the various actions organizations can take to ensure that they are treating all employees (and potential employee) fairly and that they are not discriminating" (Arvinen–Muondo & Perkins, 2013). For any organization out there, there is a responsibility when it comes to managing diversity. When I was reading the material this week this question that Edwards posed stuck with me: "how can we know when we should treat people similarly because of their similarities, and when is it more fair to treat people differently because of their differences" (Arvinen–Muondo & Perkins, 2013)? This question is one I have always had and wondered when I open my own business. It is a challenge that plays in diversity management and one a company has to figure out. Companies do need to challenge discrimination. If not it causes a lot of people many disadvantages due to race, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That places the annual total of small businesses created at more than 6.5 million, in the United States alone. A small business is defined as an enterprise that has less than five–hundred employees. There is a total of about 28 million small businesses in the U.S. These businesses are responsible for the employment of roughly 50% of Americans. With an addition 6.5 million businesses being created annually, you would assume that this number is climbing, however, that is not the case. More employer businesses close per month than open up (Nazar). As calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States, the failure rate is as follows; after one year 21.2%, after two years 32.1%, after five years 51.2%, after ten years 66.6%, and after twenty years 79.6% of all newly created small businesses fail ("Entrepreneurship"). What is the reasoning being that? Why are so many small businesses struggling to keep their doors open? There are three main reasons why businesses that are new and lesser in size struggle to survive and often lead to the shutting down of these newfound entrepreneurships. These sources of failure include poor decision making due to a lack of experience, financial issues, and competition from other businesses. Lack of experience is something that every new businessman or businesswoman has to deal with. No matter how much you have learned about how to run an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Small Business Pros And Cons With the competition for jobs becoming more and more difficult, instead of applying for some and crossing their fingers that someone else doesn't get the job before they do, some people are deciding to start their own small business. A small business is basically a privately owned company that is run by either a corporation, a partnership, or just a single person. Now, owning a small business comes with its pros and cons. However, the pros of owning a small business seem to outnumber the cons. So if I had the choice, I would be interested in owning a small business. For example if the employee premium is $3600 a year and the 20% share of the premium is $720 and the employee makes $45,000 a year; $45,000 x 9.5%= $4275 which is greater than $720. Therefore this coverage would be deemed affordable. However if this particular employee has a family of four the premium for the family would be an additional $7500 a year. In this case this individual would be eligible for tax credits to help afford the health insurance coverage if their employer did not provide health coverage (Lee, 2013). For example, a New York–based mass producer of furniture, Human scale, cut back its carbon footprint only to find out that it also helped the company to reduce its electrical, packaging and shipping costs. Similarly, companies like New Belgium and Aspin Skiing Co. have also found that "environmental conscience wasn 't divorced from critical business need", meaning following their corporate responsibility can actually benefit them in terms of increased revenues (Kramer, 2013).
