M1 – Analyse how the above policy and procedures help children/young people and their families
whilst the child is being looked after.
In this assignment, I will be analysing how the above policy and procedures help children/young
people and their families whilst the child is being looked after in recommendation to a child
protection policy of a setting in health and social care sector. In addition to identify what are the
advantage and disadvantages of the children's protection policy.
A children's protection policy is a document guiding all service provider on the ways and how they
can safeguard children from being harm or exploited.
A policy is a file or document that guides the service providers with principles on their how the ...

Having records of accidents and incidents enables the employer to asses and spot out the risk of
health and safety in the environment. In addition, the advantage of recording of incident and
accident as it can be used as a reference to be able to back and have evidence of the report.
The disadvantage of recording incidents and accidents is that all incidents and accidents are been
recorded and taken seriously even though the occurrence of minor accident and incidents. Also, not
all incidents and accidents are recorded because it may be regarded as unimportant and not a serious
incident.
"Adults respect children's privacy and personal space. They should not touch or pick up a child who
does not wish adult contact"
The disadvantage is that what if the child is putting themselves in danger or putting others in danger
by throwing heavy objects. Also, the disadvantage of this is that a child may require adult contact
but is not been given to them in the appropriate time. The disadvantage of the workers not touching
or picking up a child who does not wish adult contact can be abused; although, leaving the child
alone may be more of a risk of being abused, leaving them as they wish may result to the children
throwing an tantrums, become physical violently and harming themselves.
The advantage is that all the children are given

The Portrayal Of Childhood In The Media
We have looked at many different types of media in this unit. After looking at them I have
concluded that the portrayal of childhood does change across the various types of media. We have
looked at children in the news, advertisements, podcasts and blogs. In advertisements the media
have used innocence in a child to people buy something for example a car. There is an Volkswagen
commercial, we see that the boy uses his imagination, he believes he can turn on a car by using 'the
force'. His father is the one who turns on the car without him knowing. The boy gets extremely
excited that he can turn on a car. In the news, children are brave. A child wants to come across as
strong and cool while they on television. When a reporter asked a child,

Explain Why Children And Young People Need To Be Looked...
In this assignment I will outline why a child and young people need to be looked after away from
their families.
There are many reasons why young people and children may need special care and need away from
their families. Those reasons may include family breakdown, bereavement, parental illness or
incapacity of some kind. They may be linked to behavioural problems or even the child's own
illness.
One of these reasons include, abusive parent. This is one of the most common reasons why children
and young people are taken away from their families. Abusive guidance or parent is mainly the
reason why lots of young people and children are raised in care.
The reason why they are taken into care away from their families are because these children and
young people face a very difficult life as they are being neglected, physically, emotionally and
mentally abused which could lead so many health problems for them when they grow up to be
adults. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some young people who for a variety of reasons get caught up in a cycle of offending and
breaking the law. Their criminal activity may result in the young person being remanded or detained.
Usually when young people and children are remanded or detained it is usually as a result of
criminal charges and a short term care order may be made.
Children and young people could be taking away from their families with the agreement of parents.
There are times when parents realise that they are struggling with their parental responsibilities and
that the child would benefit from a period of time away from the family home. Once everything
settles down and the situation improves the child could come back to their family. This may affect
the child as the child would be confused on what is happening, this could affect the child's behaviour
and cause behavioural

The Regulation Of Care Provision For Looked After Children...
Evaluate the regulation of care provision for looked after children and young people Disclosure and
Barring Service: The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) was first established under the police act in
1997 and was launched in March 2002 due to public concern about children, young people and
vulnerable adults. This was then merged in 2012 with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)
to form the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The Disclosure and Barring Service is a check
which must be taken before any practitioner is employed to work with children, young people or
vulnerable adults. It ensures that the practitioner is clear of any criminal offences such as abuse. A
disadvantage of the DBS check is that it gets renewed every three years. Within these three years a
practitioner can very simply abuse a child, young person or vulnerable adult without any detection
whatsoever. After the renewed DBS that practitioner is more likely to be caught. However this
makes no difference as he/she has already committed an offence and the child, young person or
vulnerable adult has already been harmed. Due to the fact that background checks are expensive
some companies don't often feel it is necessary therefore don't require for employees to display a
DBS. Nevertheless a DBS does have many advantages; it protects employers from future lawsuits
and a background check reveals lies in resumes/CVs which helps the job selection process and
ensure employment of only legitimate and honest

Corporate Parents Looked After Children
Corporate Parents Corporate Parenting is the idea that people and bodies take on the role which
traditionally a parent would fill. By giving a definition and list of the corporate parents, the act
clears away any confusion of who may be a corporate parent. This clarity allows corporate parents
to have no misunderstanding of their position and the duties they must fulfil. The expansion of the
number of corporate parents means that there is now a larger number of people who make up a
supportive network which is to take on the role of promoting and looking out for children. By giving
this role to others the act tries to enforce upon these bodies what non–looked after children expect
from their parents. Corporate parenting is a way to ensure that ... Show more content on

Having a clear idea of what is happening can make the situation less daunting for them as there is
less confusion as to how they will proceed and the options that are available to them. The situation
that leads up to a child having to become looked after can often be chaotic. Telling the child of the
options and advising them of what is best can bring some sense of stability in to the situation.
Counseling also provides a safe environment in which any issues or worries can be discussed and
shared. This can then put the local authority in a better position to know what is going on and how

Why Children Are Looked After Children
Discuss why children are Looked After by the Local Authority and how their early experiences
impact on their well–being. Consider how those working with them can ensure that their health and
educational needs are met.
Within UK law children in care are defined as 'looked after children', this is a child that has been in
the care of the local authority for more than 24 hours (NSPCC, 0000). The Department of education
(2016) released figures stating that there was 70, 440 looked after children at the end of March
2016. This was an increase of 1% on the previous year, the increase of 1470 is stated to be the
increase of asylum seeking children coming to find refuge in the UK. The unaccompanied asylum
seeking children has impacted on the number of children with, absent parenting this has risen from
5% in 2014 to 7% in 2016 (Department of Education, 2016).* ... Show more content on

However there has been a 1 percent fall from 62% to 61% between 2015 and 2016. In the cases of
abuse this can result in an emergency legal order being served for the removal of a child from
immediate harm. The removal of a child into public care can be completed by the authority of the
police with regards section 46 of the children's act 1989. *After this an interim or full care order is
put in place. Enabling children to be placed in a secure children's home or in some case parental
agreement is given to put their children in accommodation run by the local authority. Looked after
children can stay with foster parents, or in the family home with supervision of social services, or
residential children's homes and residential settings like schools or secure units. (NSPCC, 0000).

All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
It is commonly said that "The nail that sticks out, gets hammered down" and this quote is definetly
shown in "All Summer in a Day". "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury is about a futuristic
civilization on the planet Venus, where a constant rain storm lurks over the children that live there. 9
year old Margot had set foot on Venus 5 years ago after living her previous year in Ohio with her
parents and remembering the clear sky with the bright warm sun. She is different than the rest as all
the others had lived their whole lives on Venus where the last time they saw the sun was 7 years ago,
a sight much forgotten. Margot has troubles coping with the environment on Venus and the others
make it worse as they constantly harass her as she is different. On this one day in 7 years, Scientists
had predicted the sun would come out. Today was a day for Margot to experience something she had
been waiting for, but it does not happen as the children lock her in a closet and she misses the event
and is devastated. Themes constantly run through the story and Bradbury develops the theme using
events and literary devices. People isolate and harass those who are different, experienced, and
knowledgeable, as they become jealous and ignorant. This is shown when the children repeatedly
deny Margot's experiences and invoke acts of violence to demonize her because they are jealous of
her experiences.
To begin with, we see that Margot gets attacked when she attempts to share her memories of the

Discuss how policies and procedures help children, young people and their families whilst the child
is being looked after.
The every child matters (change for children 2003) legislation is based upon the well–being of
children and young people from birth to 19. This legislation has five principles that applies to every
child, whatever their background or circumstances. The organisations working with children and
young people, work together to protect children from harm and help they achieve their goals.
Children and young people will be involved in decision–making processes. The children's
commissioner for England was appointed in 2005 to help give children and young people some
input into government.

Firstly, the policies empower every child to be treated with equivalence and equality and no sense of
bias in any situation, whether a child is looked after or not. If allows children to be treated as an
individual and allows them to develop their own views and perspectives with topics regarding
themselves and they have the choice to whether they should express them or not. For a parent, it is
their responsibility for the raising and upbringing of the child in order for them to live. The Human
Rights Act also ensures protection for children from any sense of abuse which can differ from
physical or emotional as well as being free from any form of exploitation or neglect. This has
influenced many children and their family as they allow children to live a life from any abuse and
not be abandoned. Results show that The Human Rights has been consistent with regards to
safeguarding as well as promoting a child's welfare; it is the duty of the local authority to reinforce

Children At Risk Of Abuse And Critically Examine Its...
Explore what support is available to children at risk of abuse and critically examine its impact for
safeguarding children.
Introduction – 411 words
Recently researchers have shown an increased interest on how looked after children are more
vulnerable to neglect and abuse even aftercare. This essay gives a clear understanding and context as
to why looked after children in aftercare are still in a vulnerable position. The term "Looked after
Children" (LAC) is generally used with a local authority team involved with responsibility for
improving the educational progress and attainment of children looked after by the authority
(NSPCC, 2014, p.28–30). Looked after children are more prone to mental, physical, emotional and
social neglect and abuse due to the fact they are not being supported, feeling lonely and isolated
from society and services (SCIE, 2014). Risk factors associated with child maltreatment can be
grouped in four domains: parent or caregiver factors, family factors, child factors and environmental
factors (Bentovim, 2009, p.22–24). These four domains are critical in understanding how to
effectively support the child, professionals use these domains to zone in one the specific areas of
risk and then work outwards on assessing how to help. Theorists such as: John Bowlby first outlined
his theory of attachment and its central role in child development. Attachment theory is a theory of
personality development in the context of close relationships. Although

There are ethical issues relating to children being participants in the looked after setting. Therefore,
the TMA03 study carried out debates about multi breakdowns in the care system and explored the
extent to which children should be regarded as valued sources in social research instead of children
being positioned as vulnerable, incompetent and relatively powerless in society and this relates to
how this conceptualisation of children can be used in social research, in order for them to have
reliable or consistent involvement in their decision–making.
Identifying research questions The research question will be 'how to Involve LAC children in
assessment and decision–making?' This small–scale research question will focus on how LAC
children would like to be involved in decisions pertaining to them and their current views of
professionals.
The proposed question can be answered and have valuable insight for future research; if the most
important groups of children who have or are a part of the care system contribute to the data. The
decided approach will be produced in the methodology proposal and explore a method including
reliable data that can be transformed into useable statistics.
In this paper, I will graphically design a study to investigate the research question identified in the
existing literature review. The

Personal Statement of Purpose: A Career as a Psychoanalyst
Prior to my degrees, I had extensive experience of working with a wide age range of children in
settings such as primary schools and playgroups. This is what initially prompted me to study
psychology; I became interested in theories of child development and learning. My studies have
allowed me to gain solid understanding of the fundamental areas of psychology, and enabled me to
build on my interest in psychoanalysis specifically. During my time at the University of London I
became more aware of the role psychoanalysis has in society at both a creative and a social level.
Through the modules I took I learnt about the main theories within psychoanalysis; including those
of Freud, Klein, and Lacan. I have also studied psychoanalytic theories of eating disorders, gender
development, feminism and art.
I have been able to build upon this theoretical knowledge throughout my subsequent career working
with children and families. For instance, during time spent in South America my understanding of
the therapeutic aspects of creativity allowed me to facilitate the completion of a range of workshops
for 18 young women, who had been victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse. I also
established a club, Niños Comunicadores, aimed at expanding positive outcomes for children living
in a Bolivian prison. On my return to the UK, as part of an internship with the NSPCC I completed a
literature review on the emotional wellbeing of looked after children. I was responsible for finding

Looked After Child Essay
Introduction
Definition of LAC: According to the Child Act 1989, looked after children refer to children who are
under 18, who do not live with parents or family and are being looked after by a social worker
authorized by the local authority (Redbridge, 2015). They become looked after under a court order
or a voluntary argument.
There are 69540 looked after children in England as at the year ending 31 March 2015. 55% of the
LAC (38530) are boys and 45% of the LAC (31010) are girls.
Reasons that children are being looked after: Government statistics revealed that children are being
looked after mostly due to neglect and abuse, in which there is also a rise in the number of children
being looked after due to 'family dysfunction' (DoE, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Impact of neglect and abuse experienced by LAC has been linked with their heightened disruption

neurobiological studies, which the brain becomes overly responsive to threat and stress due to
survival needs, while neglecting the development of other functions (Child Welfare Information
Gateway, 2015). Moreover, a research conducted by WHO examined the association between risk
factors which children were exposed to, such as family dysfunction and their likelihood of being

– While children are influenced by many things, there are no stronger influences that that of their
parents as they are usually their child's first playmates and while the world expands with each

Children who come from a lower social economic background are more likely to be in poverty
themselves. This can lead to lower expectations of the child from both parents and also the
education system, leaving them little or no hope of getting out of poverty even though they may
have the ability to do so. For many children who come from a looked after care status, moving
around from home to home can lead to many negative issues such as low self esteem, lack of self
respect, increased levels of truancy as they feel not wanted or that they don't belong. Children in a
looked after care status may be looked after by grandparents. Lack of money for pensioners may
lead to little or no activities for the child and they may not be able to go out to play, have few friends
or be bullied by their peers, much depends on their grandparents age and also their ability to be able
to encourage and promote activities with the child. – Health. Parents who eat well and are physically
active provide great examples for growing children, offering them a nutritious diet rich in vitamins
and minerals provides them with the necessary nutrients to support healthy growth and
development. Additionally encouraging active play and incorporating physical activities into daily
life will help children build muscular mass and increase coordination and develop self confidence.

Why Children and Young People May Get Looked After Away...
Why children and young people may need to be looked after away from their families.
Children become looked after when their parents are unable to provide on–going care in either a
temporary or permanent capacity. The number of looked after children and young people has
increased every year for the last decade – but the number who are looked after as a result of their
own offending behaviour is small. Instead, the overwhelming majority are looked after for their own
care and protection: o Some have experienced neglect o Some have experienced mental, physical,
sexual or emotional abuse. o Some parents are unable to look after their children because of their
own substance misuse or poor parenting skills. o Some young people need a bit of ... Show more

 Emotional Abuse – pattern of behaviour that ruins a child's emotional development or sense of
self–worth. This may include constant criticism, threats, or rejection, as well as withholding love,
support or guidance. Emotional abuse is often difficult to prove.
 Abandonment – A child is considered to be abandoned when the parent's identity or whereabouts
are unknown, the child has been left alone in circumstances where the child suffers serious harm, or
the parent has failed to stay in contact or provide support for the child for a certain amount of time.
 Substance Abuse – An element of child abuse or neglect in many States. Circumstances that are
considered abuse or neglect in some States include: o Prenatal exposure of a child to harm due to the
mother's use of an illegal drug or other substance. o Manufacture of methamphetamine in the
presence of a child. o Selling, distributing, or giving illegal drugs or alcohol to a child. o Use of a
controlled substance by a caregiver that impairs the caregiver's ability to adequately care for the
child. Children can become looked after for a variety of reasons. Although individual experiences
vary, as a group looked after children and young people are among the most socially disadvantaged.

Gross Motor Development In Children
The article I chose to summarize is titled Gross Motor Development in Children Adopted from
Orphan Settings by Barbara J. Roeber, Christa L. Tober, Daniel M. Bold and Seth D. Pollak. I was
particularly interested in this topic after we discussed and learned in class about the effects of early
stimulation and deprivation. I was fascinated by children's ability to recover or "catch up" which is
described as "the human power to 'stabilize and return' to a predetermined behavior or growth
pattern after being pushed off trajectory" (Tanner, 1978, cited in Payne and Isaacs, 2016).
Institutionalized children are often deprived of stimulation, attention and basic human needs leading

If the families were informed of the type of research being conducted, and told their children were
going to be compared and tested to determine their motor ability, they could have unknowingly
raised their children differently. They could have put them in different sports, paid more attention to
the one more skilled since it is likely they would be more successful in sports or pay more attention
the child that was not as skilled and needed more attention. There are also individual differences that
could determine whether they were active or participated in things that would enhance motor ability
over the other. I think there are a lot of variables that could alter the data.
The results of the study showed that although children have an incredible ability to "catch up" this
study determined that being placed in an enriched family environment does not allow the child to
fully recover and reach the level of a child not enduring any sort of deprivation. It is recommended
that these children be identified early and given extra specialized care and attention to fully reach a
"normal" level.
I think this research is vital for understanding how deprivation and early stimulation can have an
effect on children and I hope it will help emphasize the importance of early intervention to give
these children the best possible chance at

Childcare Choices
We also considered childcare choices at other points in time. However, childcare choices seem
highly consistent over time, in particular when the child is very young (Table
ref{tab:CHILD_ChildcareChoices}): for most children, the main type of childcare used at 12 month
is the same as that used at 24 months. This is particularly true for children looked after by parents,
grandparents, or in formal childcare centres, with the probability of being looked after in the same
way being around 90%. This is one of the reasons why we include childcare variables only in one
point of time. However, we could include other subsequent childcare/educational choices that are
correlated with the decision on early care, which probably affect child outcomes

The Regulation Of Care Provision For Looked After Children
Within this assignment I will evaluate the regulation of care provision for looked after children. I
found that two organisations supports and give guidance to schools and services which support
looked after children (OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission). They are both similar but highly
different in which institutes they inspect. I have analysed the OFSTED report for Pool Hayes Arts
and Community School. This showed and supported the roles and responsibilities I have explained
in my previous M2. Firstly, OFSTED (The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services
and Skills) regulate and inspect children's social care agencies and organisations, such as, care
services for new born babies to schools and colleges which protects children and young people.
Also, residential care homes, youth clubs, etc. would be regulated by OFSTED to review the quality
of care they contribute to protect children and young people's welfare. Following on from the
quality, OFSTED look for implementation of legislation which protects and promotes children and
young people's prosperity. OFSTED ensures organisations provide high potential care quality for
children and young people, including keeping them safe, healthy and wealthy. They promote this by
allowing the child to have the right to enjoy and achieve the best lifestyle there are able to receive.
Employees have to contribute to the quality to improve on the child's wellbeing. This is
accomplished by developing the children and

Social Policy: Looked After Children
This essay will examine the past and present social policy regarding looked after children in the UK,
dating back to the late 1970's. It will examine how the policy has evolved over the last thirty years,
and whether political and economical influences have impacted on its development. This essay will
also seek to explore what impact the policies regarding looked after children have on the members

The definition of a 'looked after child' is an individual, up to the age of 18 who has been placed in
the care of the local authority, whether this is placed with foster carers, either short or long term or a
residential unit. Also, children who are subject to either a Full Care Order, or an Interim Care ...

Although, at this time, the current government policy had an emphasis on foster or adoption,
recognising that the best option for children was to grow up within a family environment. However,
without the necessary training, and assessment of the viability of prospective foster carers,
placements often broke down, resulting in children moving to lots of different placements before
finally 'ending up in residential care. At this time, children had relatively no say in arrangements for
their care or future, and often little or no contact with their birth family.
During the 1980's and to the mid 1990's, the provision for looked after children underwent a massive
overhaul. After the abuse and deaths of another three children in the early 80's, a number of
parliamentary reports led to the development of The Children Act 1989. This act "marked a
watershed in legislation on children" and "tried to balance two sets of contradictory pressures;
greater child protection with greater parental rights" (Glennerster, 2007). Also, an alarming number
of reports into institutional abuse of children in care in the1990's came to light, and following a
frenzied media coverage, and yet another public outcry, the government commissioned Sir William

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, And Transgender Parents
There is a negative perception about the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus)
community's ability to parent. People assume that individuals from this community are mentally
unstable, want to "turn kids gay," or are otherwise unfit parents. There is an abundance of research
on lesbian mothers and the outcome of their children, however there is very little on gay fathers,
bisexual, or transgender parents. Without the research on these communities it can create
uninformed assumptions, making it harder for individuals in the community to be taken seriously as
parents. Because there is plenty of work on lesbian mothers available, I chose instead to focus on
gay male, bisexual, and transgender parents.
There is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The participants saw the gay male couple and the couple including the transgender individual to be
much less emotionally stable than the straight couple. The couple with the transgender woman was
seen as having the most instability. Not surprisingly, the participant's willingness to grant adoption
to the couples followed the same pattern. They were most willing to allow straight couple to adopt
Susan and least likely to allow the couple with the trans woman. The TS found that a higher level of
transphobia resulted in a lower level of perceived emotional stability and willingness to grant
adoption to the gay male and trans included couple, it had no effect on their perception of the
heterosexual couple.
Although this study did highlight negative attitudes towards gay male and MTF parents and
potential parents, it failed to include lesbians, female to male (FTM) transgender individuals, and
bisexual individuals. Every group within LGBTQ+ experience different prejudice and
discrimination. Lesbians for example may have less prejudice because, one, they're women, who are
generally thought of as better parents, and two, there is plenty of research proving lesbians make
great parents. FTM trans individuals, on the other hand, may face greater adversity because

This Assignment Will Answer Two Interrelated Questions.
This assignment will answer two interrelated questions. The first part will look at transitions, for
example, temporal transitions across time, such as, a child 's growth development or evolving
capacities. Also, spatial transitions, between spaces such as moving between specific locations or
services. It will look at how transitions can affect the child and how law and policy can try to slow
down some transitions. How practitioners need to understand the concept of transitions and the
perspective of all involved to see how it can be applied and developed in practice (The Open
University, 2016a). The second part will focus on new care setting using case studies for evidence.

However, children will develop values, diversity and resilience through the transition from a child,
to teenager through to adulthood. Therefore, all these will assist in a child's transition through their
growing years, and help them cope with adversity and life skills. The Government have guidance for
parents for children 's development transitions, such as, age to wean a child, and age milestones
where children should be walking and talking. These age milestones are monitored as it may mean
the child needs support if they are not being met. In addition, parental responsibility have a series of
transitions towards the legal age of when a child transitions to an adult. However, some parents may
be influenced by their own upbringing, social and cultural norms. All can influence when the parents
help with the child transition if no legal age marker (The Open University, 2016a). From the
findings, awareness of transitions is important to understand growth and development of children
and young people, and the growth of a child for a parent is a delightful time, however, it can also be
a difficult and frightening experience for the parents as they are transitioning as parents (Arai, L,

Creative Writing: A Mother's Tale
A Mother's Tale A cool spring morning in Chicago a little boy was born the fourth son to a woman,
Jane, who already had ten children. As her son took his first breath she lay back on the bed and
sighed a sigh of relief. Her husband, Tony, was nowhere to be found, probably at the bar. Well, she
knew he was at the bar given it was two in the morning and he had gotten paid the night before.
How did things go so wrong in their marriage? Tony had been her high school sweetheart. He had
swept her off her feet and after only a year of courting had proposed and given her the wedding of
her dreams. They had had a great start. He had always provided and made sure the kids were taken
care of and she never felt second best. She has always done what was expected of her. Their
marriage had been working so well until six months ago when Tony took to drinking. Now here she
was alone. Holding her baby boy who was only a few moments old. She couldn't help but wonder if
this was the beginning of something more serious, lonelier than she had anticipated. "He is
beautiful. What will you name him?" softly the midwife asked as she set the handsome baby on
Jane's chest bringing her back to reality. Jane stroked her son and pulled him closer allowing the
warmth of her body to comfort him. She examined him from the top of his peach fuzz covered head
all the way down to his perfect baby toes. Her husband had never missed the birth of any of their
children thus far. The responsibility of naming this

1. Identification of a research cluster
The Cluster Research that has been chosen for the Research Portfolio Assignment is Child
Development and Children's Services. Research under this cluster will address the harmful impacts
of child neglect and abuse, as well as the development of intervention strategies to help prevent
child maltreatment. Child neglect and abuse bring about long–term impacts on the victim's physical
and mental health that result into high expenditures by governments, health care systems and social
welfare institutions. Knowledge obtained from research under Child Development and Children's
Services research cluster will be helpful in implementing recommendations that will help prevent
child maltreatment and promote healthy development in children (Davies and Ward, 2011).

Grandpa Portman Chapter Summaries
When first beginning to read this novel the reader may think that this book is all about some lady
with strange children at a house but in actuality it is about this lady that has all of these children with
strange things that they can do and this boy Jacob is one of them but he does not know it till
something tragic happens in the family. Jacob Portman's grandfather seemed to be going crazy in the
beginning of this book and everyone thought he was just a crazy old man who was seeing made–up
things. Grandpa Portman called Jacob at work saying he can't find his key for his locker with all of
his guns he kept asking him if he knew where it was but Jacob said he did not know where it was,
but Jacobs father took the key because he thought he was crazy and a danger to himself and others.
Jacob was worried about him so he left work early to go check up on him. He had a friend come
pick him up from work and they went to his grandpa's house but it was locked so they broke into the
house and they found grandpa Portman gone, they started to look outside and in the woods and

of wheezing. Asthma is a chronic condition characterized by periodic attacks of wheezing, coughing
and shortness of breath. More than 7 million US children suffer from it and worldwide it's nearly
150 million. Asthma constrict the airways that lead to the lungs and partially block the passage for
air to pass through. Many children encounter illnesses as their bodies are growing, a primary one
being asthma, but there are many others as well. The question that has always been raised is whether

A difference concluded after looking at both studies is that they looked at different age groups.
While the first study looked at children as young as a month to as old as two years old, the second
study looked at these age groups up to preschool aged children. With looking at both of these studies
and the various age groups examined, it covered a large group that is valuable in concluding that
breastfeeding is either effective or ineffective in preventing illnesses in children. As mentioned
previously, study 1 was very effective in covering every angle of how children are fed, the family
and child's characteristics, and the results seemed to be accurate. Study 2 was effective in using
information from other studies conducted in the past to back up the information that they have. Both
studies were very effective in communicating the information they had found. The first study was
very easy to generalize, because there were various charts and those who put together the study
explained what had occurred throughout to be more precise and clear. The second study was a little
more difficult to conclude and generalize the results because the results needed to be deeply

Women In The Late 1800's Essay

woman was very crucial and consistent. Starting from early morning until dusk, the women would
care for children, clean the house, and provide any other services they could. Throughout the late
1800's, women were treated unfairly due to the women assisting their families, caring for children,
and being an American housewife. Even though women were looked down on and criticized, they
managed to keep their heads high by assisting their family day by day. Their jobs were making sure
everything was always in order. For example, cleaning house, making dinner, and taking care of
children. Usually, the agreement between the wife and husband ... Show more content on

Religion was harshly looked upon and key in the children's life. Regardless the repercussions of the
actions of the children, they had to be raised in a well rounded religious home. It was so important
to teach the children religion, due to the fact that's who they would worship in their later years.
Every Sunday, the women would take the children to a temple to worship service or go anytime
church activities would occur. As you would assume, women would still get looked down on even in
the church setting by other attendees. Equality was a major issue back in the late 1800's and
continued till the early 1900's. Marches and community events would arise often due to women
wanting equality for themselves. Up until 1918, women weren't able to vote. After all the hard work
that the women endured, they won in the end by all being equal. From then on, they found a sense of
confidence, self–esteem, and love for themselves. Not only did women further their education when
available, they joined clubs, lectures, and reading events to gain any knowledge they could. In the
present day, looking at everyone complaining of having to go to school, it's an honor to be able to
further my education through college to make a difference in the world. It was crazy how teachers
finally got an opportunity to express their feelings the way they wanted, since they couldn't before.

There are several pieces of legislation today that play an important role in the safeguarding of
children and young people within the care setting. The most well–known of these is the Children's
Act 1989, and the revision of it in 2004, which includes the Every Child Matter policies.
The Children's Act 1989 came into full force in the latter months of 1991 and introduced several
new key principles that included:
The concept of Parental Responsibility;
The ability for unmarried parents to share the responsibility of caring for the child by agreement
with the other parent (predominantly the father getting agreement from the mother), though joint
registration at birth and a court order;
The local authority to provide support and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why the following pieces of legislation have also come into form and are used alongside one
another to ensure a child is safe and protected:
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, which ensures children with learning difficulties or
disabilities are not discriminated against and receive the same protection and safeguarding as any
other child;
Children and Young Peoples Act 2008, which ensures all children and young people receive social
work services, accommodation, well–being, education, money and protection orders – all of which
ensure the child is safe and looked after;
Working Together to Safeguard Children, which came out of the Children's Act 2004 and sets out
how organisations (such as SACCS) and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote
the child's welfare.
As well as all of the above, within the SACCS company there is a specific piece of legislation that
focuses on safeguarding. This is the Safeguarding Policy 19.1. The aim of this policy is: "to support
the achievement of successful safeguarding from harm of the children in [our] care according to
company protocols and procedures and in compliance with UK legislation"[5]. The idea of the
policy is to ensure the five Every Child Matters outcomes are being met (7 for the Welsh children
within the company), and that the 24 outcomes of the SACCS Recovery

Discuss the Evidence That Attachment Relationships in...
Discuss the evidence that attachment relationships in early childhood can have positive and negative
consequences. Attachment is described as an "affectionate reciprocal relationship between an
individual and another individual." Much psychological research has been carried out into the types
of attachments that infants form with their caregivers, and the results gained from these studies show
how early attachments can affect children whether positively or negatively. Some psychologists
claim that the ability to attach to the caregiver is innate in babies. Bowlby said that ‘babies are born
with an innate tendency to create strong emotional bonds with their caregivers'. This is mainly for
survival because the caregiver provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite work that has criticised this, mothers today still are kept together with their baby directly
after birth. Klaus and Kennell's research would suggest that early attachment does have positive
consequences. However, research is not conclusive in deciding whether attachments do form in this
‘critical period' or not. Research has also been carried out which has looked into whether or not bad
attachment styles can result in negative consequences. Many studies have looked at the effects of
separation of babies from their mothers. It is claimed by psychologists that depriving a baby from
being with its mother will have negative consequences later on in life. Bowlby (1953) looked into
the effects of deprivation on children and came up with the Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis. He
believed that if an infant couldn't develop a "warm, intimate and continuous relationship" with its
mother, or substitute mother, then it would have problems with behaviour and forming relationships
later in life. Bowlby conducted a study which aimed to find any causes for children to have
behavioural problems. His 44 thieves study in 1944, involved looking at 88 children from a
guidance clinic. Half of the children were there because they were emotionally maladjusted. The
other half were thieves and did not feel guilt for the crimes they had

The case of Sebastian and Belle Yanovsky has not yetreached the point where a family court has

application byeither parent for sole custody of Sebastian and Belle. Nonetheless, given
theseriousness of Sebastian's and Belle's physical and emotional abuse, it may bethat care services

Essay On Crowd Out
Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer–Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid
Expansion on Rates of Crowd–Out.
The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd–out.
Crowd–out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study with some
showing no significant evidence of crowd–out to some showing up to 50% (Muhlestein, 2013).
Crowd–out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan in favor of enrolling in
the public plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use private plans available or
if an employer reduces coverage based on public program availability.
Rates of crowd–out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on

The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the
Medicaid eligibility threshold.
After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd–out levels between
states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd–out found in the
analysis, researchers also stated that studies of national crowd–out rates should be disregarded. It
was found that 3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty
Level (FPL) and 6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to
be subject to crowd–out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would
be crowded out.
The RD method does not allow an overall crowd–out estimate, so it is limited to localized estimates
based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the eligibility threshold
who are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long after the expansion
occurs. Evidence of significant crowd–out is likely influenced by differing methods of managing the
Medicaid population and policies put in place to prevent crowd–out. It was also found that crowd–
out effects decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because wealthier families within the range
of eligibility for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private to public

noted in their research. The results looked at Jay 's development in his ability to interact and engage
with other children and play materials. The observations showed that he was not at the same level of

him in the structured teaching setting and was able to apply them to play situations that were less
structured. There was a significant increase in Jay 's social interactions with peers and complex play.

A Study On American Sign Language ( Asl )
The area of focus for this study is memory development, and the use of gestures, specifically
signing, in aiding memory development. Gesturing has traditionally been considered
communicative, but has also been shown to aid learning when used as a teaching strategy. Signing is
a type of gesture used as a form of communication. The focus of this study will be on American
Sign Language (ASL). The purpose of this study is to test the effects of actively signing while
performing a visual–spatial memory task. Gesturing has long been seen as a teaching technique for
more visual learners. A study by Cook et al. (2008) looked at the use of gestures in promoting
learning and lasting memory. To investigate this issue, researchers experimentally manipulated
children's gesture during instruction in a new mathematical concept. Eighty–four children in the
third and fourth grade were recruited to be participants in the study. The study found that requiring
children to gesture while learning the new concept helped them retain the knowledge they had
gained during instruction. In contrast, children who were required to speak but not gesture while
learning the concept saw no effect on solidifying learning. The results of this study are significant
because they found correlation between gesturing while learning and retaining information for a
longer period of time. However, this study only looked at the effects on learning when the teacher

Looked After Children Essay
The origins of specifically Scottish interests in the education of looked–after children came with the
publication of a study highlighting a tendency to concentrate on behaviour rather than academic
performance in child care reviews (Francis, Thomson, & Mills, 1996) and of a review of research,
policy and practice (Borland, Pearson, Hill, & Bloomfield, 1998).
That review led directly to an the inspection of the education of 50 children in residential care
settings in five of Scotland's 32 local authorities (Her Majesty's Inspectors of Schools and Social
Work Services Inspectorate, 2001; Maclean & Gunion, 2003). The Learning with Care report

Unit 10 M2 Health And Social Care
In this report for Serious Topics Radio Station i will discuss the reasons why a child gets taken away
from their parents/ guardian and need to be looked after. I will also talk about the short and long–
term solutions. Children are generally best cared for within their own families. However, there are
times when children aren't able to live with their families. If a child isn't able to live with their
parents, they may be taken to care.
A child may be taken into care because they are being physically or sexually abused. Physical abuse
is when a child is purposely hurt and tortured by their parents/ guardian. E.g. burning a child or
wounding them. "Children who are physically abused suffer violence such as being hit, kicked,

Social workers have to make sure that it is the best decisions for the child.
The different types of care
Foster care is when a child is cared for by someone outside of their family and they usually live in
the carer's home fulltime, however the time they stay for varies depending on the Childs needs.
Foster care can be both short term and long term. Short is when social services try to return the child
home, this only happens if they believe things at home have changed. Long term is when a child
stays with the carer until they either leave care or they are adopted.
Residential Home is when the child lives with other children and is cared for by staff members. This
is also both short and long term
Kinship is when a child is cared for by either close family friends or relatives. This is usually short–
term; however it can become long term. Kinship is preferred for children who have been separated
from parents because it sustains the Childs connections with their families.
Respite foster carers care for children for short time, usually to give parents or their carers a break.

As the elevator doors open I immediately see colorful walls and the greenest carpet I have ever seen.
The nurse looked at me and smiled "This is the pediatric floor, just keep following me." I continued
following the nurse down the hall and as I looked up I saw tiles on the ceiling with different
drawings on each one and different names. We reached two double doors that was opened by a gray
button the nurse pushed. As the double doors open children were revealed, they were no older than
ten years old and looked sick. It did not take me very long to notice tubes covering their small
bodies and as I looked up I saw each of the hairless heads. I gasped as I realized they were cancer
children and notice the yellowish colored chemotherapy drip through their ivs to their fragile bodies.
Immediately I think back to when I was seven years old in the hospital everyday visiting my
grandfather. Walking through those hospital doors seeing my grandpa's hairless head and the pain he
went through. I intensely remembered the grief my family went through when he got cancer and as I
look at these children I would not want them to go through what my grandfather went through. I
assume the nurse saw my facial expression and she said "I guess you didn't know you were going to
working with cancer kids?" I slowly shook my head but the nurse just grinned "Don't be too alarmed

  • 3. The Portrayal Of Childhood In The Media We have looked at many different types of media in this unit. After looking at them I have concluded that the portrayal of childhood does change across the various types of media. We have looked at children in the news, advertisements, podcasts and blogs. In advertisements the media have used innocence in a child to people buy something for example a car. There is an Volkswagen commercial, we see that the boy uses his imagination, he believes he can turn on a car by using 'the force'. His father is the one who turns on the car without him knowing. The boy gets extremely excited that he can turn on a car. In the news, children are brave. A child wants to come across as strong and cool while they on television. When a reporter asked a child, ... • 5. Explain Why Children And Young People Need To Be Looked... In this assignment I will outline why a child and young people need to be looked after away from their families. There are many reasons why young people and children may need special care and need away from their families. Those reasons may include family breakdown, bereavement, parental illness or incapacity of some kind. They may be linked to behavioural problems or even the child's own illness. One of these reasons include, abusive parent. This is one of the most common reasons why children and young people are taken away from their families. Abusive guidance or parent is mainly the reason why lots of young people and children are raised in care. The reason why they are taken into care away from their families are because these children and young people face a very difficult life as they are being neglected, physically, emotionally and mentally abused which could lead so many health problems for them when they grow up to be adults. ... Their criminal activity may result in the young person being remanded or detained. Usually when young people and children are remanded or detained it is usually as a result of criminal charges and a short term care order may be made. Children and young people could be taking away from their families with the agreement of parents. There are times when parents realise that they are struggling with their parental responsibilities and that the child would benefit from a period of time away from the family home. Once everything settles down and the situation improves the child could come back to their family. • 7. The Regulation Of Care Provision For Looked After Children... Evaluate the regulation of care provision for looked after children and young people Disclosure and Barring Service: The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) was first established under the police act in 1997 and was launched in March 2002 due to public concern about children, young people and vulnerable adults. This was then merged in 2012 with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to form the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The Disclosure and Barring Service is a check which must be taken before any practitioner is employed to work with children, young people or vulnerable adults. It ensures that the practitioner is clear of any criminal offences such as abuse. A disadvantage of the DBS check is that it gets renewed every three years. Within these three years a practitioner can very simply abuse a child, young person or vulnerable adult without any detection whatsoever. After the renewed DBS that practitioner is more likely to be caught. However this makes no difference as he/she has already committed an offence and the child, young person or vulnerable adult has already been harmed. Due to the fact that background checks are expensive some companies don't often feel it is necessary therefore don't require for employees to display a DBS. Nevertheless a DBS does have many advantages; it protects employers from future lawsuits and a background check reveals lies in resumes/CVs which helps the job selection process and ensure employment of only legitimate and honest ... • 9. Corporate Parents Looked After Children Corporate Parents Corporate Parenting is the idea that people and bodies take on the role which traditionally a parent would fill. By giving a definition and list of the corporate parents, the act clears away any confusion of who may be a corporate parent. This clarity allows corporate parents to have no misunderstanding of their position and the duties they must fulfil. The expansion of the number of corporate parents means that there is now a larger number of people who make up a supportive network which is to take on the role of promoting and looking out for children. By giving this role to others the act tries to enforce upon these bodies what non–looked after children expect from their parents. Corporate parenting is a way to ensure that ... The situation that leads up to a child having to become looked after can often be chaotic. Telling the child of the options and advising them of what is best can bring some sense of stability in to the situation. Counseling also provides a safe environment in which any issues or worries can be discussed and shared. • 15. All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury It is commonly said that "The nail that sticks out, gets hammered down" and this quote is definetly shown in "All Summer in a Day". "All Summer in a Day" by Ray Bradbury is about a futuristic civilization on the planet Venus, where a constant rain storm lurks over the children that live there. 9 year old Margot had set foot on Venus 5 years ago after living her previous year in Ohio with her parents and remembering the clear sky with the bright warm sun. She is different than the rest as all the others had lived their whole lives on Venus where the last time they saw the sun was 7 years ago, a sight much forgotten. Margot has troubles coping with the environment on Venus and the others make it worse as they constantly harass her as she is different. On this one day in 7 years, Scientists had predicted the sun would come out. Today was a day for Margot to experience something she had been waiting for, but it does not happen as the children lock her in a closet and she misses the event and is devastated. Themes constantly run through the story and Bradbury develops the theme using events and literary devices. People isolate and harass those who are different, experienced, and knowledgeable, as they become jealous and ignorant. This is shown when the children repeatedly deny Margot's experiences and invoke acts of violence to demonize her because they are jealous of her experiences. To begin with, we see that Margot gets attacked when she attempts to share her memories of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The organisations working with children and young people, work together to protect children from harm and help they achieve their goals. Children and young people will be involved in decision–making processes. The children's commissioner for England was appointed in 2005 to help give children and young people some input into government. • 22. Children At Risk Of Abuse And Critically Examine Its... Explore what support is available to children at risk of abuse and critically examine its impact for safeguarding children. Introduction – 411 words Recently researchers have shown an increased interest on how looked after children are more vulnerable to neglect and abuse even aftercare. This essay gives a clear understanding and context as to why looked after children in aftercare are still in a vulnerable position. The term "Looked after Children" (LAC) is generally used with a local authority team involved with responsibility for improving the educational progress and attainment of children looked after by the authority (NSPCC, 2014, p.28–30). Looked after children are more prone to mental, physical, emotional and social neglect and abuse due to the fact they are not being supported, feeling lonely and isolated from society and services (SCIE, 2014). Risk factors associated with child maltreatment can be grouped in four domains: parent or caregiver factors, family factors, child factors and environmental factors (Bentovim, 2009, p.22–24). These four domains are critical in understanding how to effectively support the child, professionals use these domains to zone in one the specific areas of risk and then work outwards on assessing how to help. Theorists such as: John Bowlby first outlined his theory of attachment and its central role in child development. Attachment theory is a theory of personality development in the context of close relationships. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are ethical issues relating to children being participants in the looked after setting. Therefore, the TMA03 study carried out debates about multi breakdowns in the care system and explored the extent to which children should be regarded as valued sources in social research instead of children being positioned as vulnerable, incompetent and relatively powerless in society and this relates to how this conceptualisation of children can be used in social research, in order for them to have reliable or consistent involvement in their decision–making. Identifying research questions The research question will be 'how to Involve LAC children in assessment and decision–making?' This small–scale research question will focus on how LAC children would like to be involved in decisions pertaining to them and their current views of professionals. The proposed question can be answered and have valuable insight for future research; if the most important groups of children who have or are a part of the care system contribute to the data. The decided approach will be produced in the methodology proposal and explore a method including reliable data that can be transformed into useable statistics. In this paper, I will graphically design a study to investigate the research question identified in the existing literature review. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Personal Statement of Purpose: A Career as a Psychoanalyst Prior to my degrees, I had extensive experience of working with a wide age range of children in settings such as primary schools and playgroups. This is what initially prompted me to study psychology; I became interested in theories of child development and learning. My studies have allowed me to gain solid understanding of the fundamental areas of psychology, and enabled me to build on my interest in psychoanalysis specifically. During my time at the University of London I became more aware of the role psychoanalysis has in society at both a creative and a social level. Through the modules I took I learnt about the main theories within psychoanalysis; including those of Freud, Klein, and Lacan. I have also studied psychoanalytic theories of eating disorders, gender development, feminism and art. I have been able to build upon this theoretical knowledge throughout my subsequent career working with children and families. For instance, during time spent in South America my understanding of the therapeutic aspects of creativity allowed me to facilitate the completion of a range of workshops for 18 young women, who had been victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse. I also established a club, Niños Comunicadores, aimed at expanding positive outcomes for children living in a Bolivian prison. On my return to the UK, as part of an internship with the NSPCC I completed a literature review on the emotional wellbeing of looked after children. I was responsible for finding and ... Looked After Child Essay Introduction Definition of LAC: According to the Child Act 1989, looked after children refer to children who are under 18, who do not live with parents or family and are being looked after by a social worker authorized by the local authority (Redbridge, 2015). They become looked after under a court order or a voluntary argument. There are 69540 looked after children in England as at the year ending 31 March 2015. 55% of the LAC (38530) are boys and 45% of the LAC (31010) are girls. This can lead to lower expectations of the child from both parents and also the education system, leaving them little or no hope of getting out of poverty even though they may have the ability to do so. For many children who come from a looked after care status, moving around from home to home can lead to many negative issues such as low self esteem, lack of self respect, increased levels of truancy as they feel not wanted or that they don't belong. Children in a looked after care status may be looked after by grandparents. Tober, Daniel M. Bold and Seth D. Pollak. I was particularly interested in this topic after we discussed and learned in class about the effects of early stimulation and deprivation. I was fascinated by children's ability to recover or "catch up" which is described as "the human power to 'stabilize and return' to a predetermined behavior or growth pattern after being pushed off trajectory" (Tanner, 1978, cited in Payne and Isaacs, 2016). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the families were informed of the type of research being conducted, and told their children were going to be compared and tested to determine their motor ability, they could have unknowingly raised their children differently. They could have put them in different sports, paid more attention to the one more skilled since it is likely they would be more successful in sports or pay more attention the child that was not as skilled and needed more attention. There are also individual differences that could determine whether they were active or participated in things that would enhance motor ability over the other. I think there are a lot of variables that could alter the data. The results of the study showed that although children have an incredible ability to "catch up" this study determined that being placed in an enriched family environment does not allow the child to fully recover and reach the level of a child not enduring any sort of deprivation. It is recommended that these children be identified early and given extra specialized care and attention to fully reach a "normal" level. I think this research is vital for understanding how deprivation and early stimulation can have an effect on children and I hope it will help emphasize the importance of early intervention to give these children the best possible chance at ... However, childcare choices seem highly consistent over time, in particular when the child is very young (Table ref{tab:CHILD_ChildcareChoices}): for most children, the main type of childcare used at 12 month is the same as that used at 24 months. This is particularly true for children looked after by parents, grandparents, or in formal childcare centres, with the probability of being looked after in the same way being around 90%. This is one of the reasons why we include childcare variables only in one point of time. However, we could include other subsequent childcare/educational choices that are correlated with the decision on early care, which probably affect child outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I found that two organisations supports and give guidance to schools and services which support looked after children (OFSTED and the Care Quality Commission). They are both similar but highly different in which institutes they inspect. I have analysed the OFSTED report for Pool Hayes Arts and Community School. This showed and supported the roles and responsibilities I have explained in my previous M2. Firstly, OFSTED (The Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills) regulate and inspect children's social care agencies and organisations, such as, care services for new born babies to schools and colleges which protects children and young people. Also, residential care homes, youth clubs, etc. would be regulated by OFSTED to review the quality of care they contribute to protect children and young people's welfare. Following on from the quality, OFSTED look for implementation of legislation which protects and promotes children and young people's prosperity. OFSTED ensures organisations provide high potential care quality for children and young people, including keeping them safe, healthy and wealthy. It will examine how the policy has evolved over the last thirty years, and whether political and economical influences have impacted on its development. This essay will also seek to explore what impact the policies regarding looked after children have on the members of society it is aimed at assisting. The definition of a 'looked after child' is an individual, up to the age of 18 who has been placed in the care of the local authority, whether this is placed with foster carers, either short or long term or a residential unit. Although, at this time, the current government policy had an emphasis on foster or adoption, recognising that the best option for children was to grow up within a family environment. However, without the necessary training, and assessment of the viability of prospective foster carers, placements often broke down, resulting in children moving to lots of different placements before finally 'ending up in residential care. At this time, children had relatively no say in arrangements for their care or future, and often little or no contact with their birth family. During the 1980's and to the mid 1990's, the provision for looked after children underwent a massive overhaul. After the abuse and deaths of another three children in the early 80's, a number of parliamentary reports led to the development of The Children Act 1989. This act "marked a watershed in legislation on children" and "tried to balance two sets of contradictory pressures; greater child protection with greater parental rights" (Glennerster, 2007). Throughout the late 1800's, women were treated unfairly due to the women assisting their families, caring for children, and being an American housewife. Even though women were looked down on and criticized, they managed to keep their heads high by assisting their family day by day. Their jobs were making sure everything was always in order. For example, cleaning house, making dinner, and taking care of children. Usually, the agreement between the wife and husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Religion was harshly looked upon and key in the children's life. Regardless the repercussions of the actions of the children, they had to be raised in a well rounded religious home. It was so important to teach the children religion, due to the fact that's who they would worship in their later years. Every Sunday, the women would take the children to a temple to worship service or go anytime church activities would occur. As you would assume, women would still get looked down on even in the church setting by other attendees. Equality was a major issue back in the late 1800's and continued till the early 1900's. Marches and community events would arise often due to women wanting equality for themselves. Up until 1918, women weren't able to vote. After all the hard work that the women endured, they won in the end by all being equal. From then on, they found a sense of confidence, self–esteem, and love for themselves. Not only did women further their education when available, they joined clubs, lectures, and reading events to gain any knowledge they could. In the present day, looking at everyone complaining of having to go to school, it's an honor to be able to further my education through college to make a difference in the world. It was crazy how teachers finally got an opportunity to express their feelings the way they wanted, since they couldn't before. So after the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Give Examples of/Describe Current Legislation, Guidelines;... There are several pieces of legislation today that play an important role in the safeguarding of children and young people within the care setting. The most well–known of these is the Children's Act 1989, and the revision of it in 2004, which includes the Every Child Matter policies. The Children's Act 1989 came into full force in the latter months of 1991 and introduced several new key principles that included: The concept of Parental Responsibility; The ability for unmarried parents to share the responsibility of caring for the child by agreement with the other parent (predominantly the father getting agreement from the mother), though joint registration at birth and a court order; The local authority to provide support and ... As well as all of the above, within the SACCS company there is a specific piece of legislation that focuses on safeguarding. This is the Safeguarding Policy 19.1. The aim of this policy is: "to support the achievement of successful safeguarding from harm of the children in [our] care according to company protocols and procedures and in compliance with UK legislation"[5]. The idea of the policy is to ensure the five Every Child Matters outcomes are being met (7 for the Welsh children within the company), and that the 24 outcomes of the SACCS Recovery ... • 62. Discuss the Evidence That Attachment Relationships in... Discuss the evidence that attachment relationships in early childhood can have positive and negative consequences. Attachment is described as an "affectionate reciprocal relationship between an individual and another individual." Much psychological research has been carried out into the types of attachments that infants form with their caregivers, and the results gained from these studies show how early attachments can affect children whether positively or negatively. Some psychologists claim that the ability to attach to the caregiver is innate in babies. Bowlby said that ‘babies are born with an innate tendency to create strong emotional bonds with their caregivers'. This is mainly for survival because the caregiver provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite work that has criticised this, mothers today still are kept together with their baby directly after birth. Klaus and Kennell's research would suggest that early attachment does have positive consequences. However, research is not conclusive in deciding whether attachments do form in this ‘critical period' or not. Research has also been carried out which has looked into whether or not bad attachment styles can result in negative consequences. Many studies have looked at the effects of separation of babies from their mothers. It is claimed by psychologists that depriving a baby from being with its mother will have negative consequences later on in life. Bowlby (1953) looked into the effects of deprivation on children and came up with the Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis. He believed that if an infant couldn't develop a "warm, intimate and continuous relationship" with its mother, or substitute mother, then it would have problems with behaviour and forming relationships later in life. Bowlby conducted a study which aimed to find any causes for children to have behavioural problems. His 44 thieves study in 1944, involved looking at 88 children from a guidance clinic. Half of the children were there because they were emotionally maladjusted. The other half were thieves and did not feel guilt for the crimes they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

AndrewSchepard, amongst many others, has written of the need for radical revision ofthe family court system so as to promote parity of rights between fathers and mothers.Only when this happens, it is argued, will family courts be able to makerulings that ensure the best and fairest outcome for the welfare of the childor children involved. The case of Sebastian and Belle Yanovsky has not yetreached the point where a family court has been convened. Mr. Yanovsky and Ms.Butler are still together and so there has been no private application byeither parent for sole custody of Sebastian and Belle. Nonetheless, given theseriousness of Sebastian's and Belle's physical and emotional abuse, it may bethat care services feel it necessary to recommend in future that custody beremoved from both parents. If such a recommendation were made then Mr. Yanovskyand Ms. Butler would have to attend a family court to decide whether they werefit to have the custody of their children. The basic function of the 'looked after' childrenreview system is to maximize the government's provision of care for 'lookedafter' children. • 66. Essay On Crowd Out Article Assessment Analyzing Two Peer–Reviewed Journal Articles on the Implications of Medicaid Expansion on Rates of Crowd–Out. The expansion of Medicaid in the United States has often been denounced due to fear of crowd–out. Crowd–out studies have been investigated since the 1990s. Data vary from study to study with some showing no significant evidence of crowd–out to some showing up to 50% (Muhlestein, 2013). Crowd–out occurs when people choose to drop their private insurance plan in favor of enrolling in the public plan. It can also occur if public program members refuse to use private plans available or if an employer reduces coverage based on public program availability. Rates of crowd–out are subject to change due to the changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of this was to look at proportions of children who have private insurance within the Medicaid eligibility threshold. After conducting the study, researchers found significant differences in crowd–out levels between states with varying eligibility thresholds. Due to the varying levels of crowd–out found in the analysis, researchers also stated that studies of national crowd–out rates should be disregarded. It was found that 3% of Medicaid eligible children in families with income 250% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 6% of those in Medicaid eligible families with income 200% of FPL were found to be subject to crowd–out. It was found that no children in families with income 300% of FPL would be crowded out. The RD method does not allow an overall crowd–out estimate, so it is limited to localized estimates based on the eligibility threshold. Therefore, it often misses those beyond the eligibility threshold who are crowded out. However, it allows for steady enrollment analysis long after the expansion occurs. Evidence of significant crowd–out is likely influenced by differing methods of managing the Medicaid population and policies put in place to prevent crowd–out. It was also found that crowd– out effects decrease as the eligibility threshold increases because wealthier families within the range of eligibility for Medicaid are less likely to switch from private to public ... They used a preschool classroom to conduct their research and looked at one child in particular named, Jay. Jay has been diagnosed with autism. For the study, they used participant observation. They modeled their teaching method after TEACCH 's methods. The participants were taught different play skills. This research was conducted for nine–weeks. Notes on each observation were noted in their research. The results looked at Jay 's development in his ability to interact and engage with other children and play materials. The observations showed that he was not at the same level of exploration as other children. At the end of the study, Jay was able to use skills that were taught to him in the structured teaching setting and was able to apply them to play situations that were less structured. There was a significant increase in Jay 's social interactions with peers and complex play. –160 2. Frazier, T. N. (2014). A Twin Study of Heritable and Shared Environmental Contributions to Autism. • 70. A Study On American Sign Language ( Asl ) The area of focus for this study is memory development, and the use of gestures, specifically signing, in aiding memory development. Gesturing has traditionally been considered communicative, but has also been shown to aid learning when used as a teaching strategy. Signing is a type of gesture used as a form of communication. The focus of this study will be on American Sign Language (ASL). The purpose of this study is to test the effects of actively signing while performing a visual–spatial memory task. Gesturing has long been seen as a teaching technique for more visual learners. A study by Cook et al. (2008) looked at the use of gestures in promoting learning and lasting memory. To investigate this issue, researchers experimentally manipulated children's gesture during instruction in a new mathematical concept. Eighty–four children in the third and fourth grade were recruited to be participants in the study. The study found that requiring children to gesture while learning the new concept helped them retain the knowledge they had gained during instruction. In contrast, children who were required to speak but not gesture while learning the concept saw no effect on solidifying learning. The results of this study are significant because they found correlation between gesturing while learning and retaining information for a longer period of time. However, this study only looked at the effects on learning when the teacher gestures, not when the learner is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Looked After Children Essay The origins of specifically Scottish interests in the education of looked–after children came with the publication of a study highlighting a tendency to concentrate on behaviour rather than academic performance in child care reviews (Francis, Thomson, & Mills, 1996) and of a review of research, policy and practice (Borland, Pearson, Hill, & Bloomfield, 1998). That review led directly to an the inspection of the education of 50 children in residential care settings in five of Scotland's 32 local authorities (Her Majesty's Inspectors of Schools and Social Work Services Inspectorate, 2001; Maclean & Gunion, 2003). Many young people report being stigmatised by other pupils and teachers as a result of being identified as looked after. Scotland (Siebelt, Morrison, & Cruickshank, 2008). The research led to a media campaign funded by Scottish Government in 2010 aimed at dispelling myths associated with being in care and promoting positive images of looked after children . Social workers have to make sure that it is the best decisions for the child. The different types of care Foster care is when a child is cared for by someone outside of their family and they usually live in the carer's home fulltime, however the time they stay for varies depending on the Childs needs. Foster care can be both short term and long term. Short is when social services try to return the child home, this only happens if they believe things at home have changed. Long term is when a child stays with the carer until they either leave care or they are adopted. Residential Home is when the child lives with other children and is cared for by staff members. I stand outside in the clammy incalescence Florida weather dredging to go inside the enormous superstructure that reads HOSPITAL in big red letters. My first impulse is to turn around and whisk back home, but all I can hear is my mother's stern voice saying "You need to this, this opportunity will look amazing on your college application." We reached two double doors that was opened by a gray button the nurse pushed. As the double doors open children were revealed, they were no older than ten years old and looked sick. It did not take me very long to notice tubes covering their small bodies and as I looked up I saw each of the hairless heads. I gasped as I realized they were cancer children and notice the yellowish colored chemotherapy drip through their ivs to their fragile bodies. Immediately I think back to when I was seven years old in the hospital everyday visiting my grandfather. Walking through those hospital doors seeing my grandpa's hairless head and the pain he went through. I intensely remembered the grief my family went through when he got cancer and as I look at these children I would not want them to go through what my grandfather went through.
