1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
2. • Before I started my video I handed out a questionnaire to audience
members within our target age in order to know what to create for
out products. Here were the results
3. • I handed out another questionnaire
to different members of our target
audience after I created all the
media products. Here is them
watching it while answering the
questionnaire. I made them listen to
the song on it’s own, then made
watch the music video

Did you
like the
song?
Do you think the music video made the song more appealing?
If yes, how so? And if not, what can I improve on?
If you were to change one
thing about it what would it
be?
Do the digipack and poster harmonise well with the
music video and each other?
Yes Didn't make a difference to me
The lips weren't always synced
to the music
Yes. The performer is the main emphasis and the fonts
are consistent.

clear to tell that he Can't think of anything
I think the poster is a bit too loud in the sense that
they've edited too much
No No I dislike songs in this music genre
The performer didn't know
know how to play the guitar

the digipack and poster

his back since he didn't know how to use it

mismatched lip sycing did not answer this question
No
No the playing of the guitar didn't look genuine and that put me
off The playing of the guitar
I feel that since the song was about a breakup the
poster and digipack should have been a bit more dull
Yes
I liked the fact that the whole song was emphasised on him and
it was clear that he was trying to move on from a breakup
He didn't look like he knew
how to play a guitar
I think the colour schemes shoul have been different on
the digipack and poster
5. • I feel that the mis en scene in the music video was really good. We
had the correct props and filmed in the right places. We wanted to
make the performer look like a superior which is why we had many
low angled camera shots; to let us know that he’s not below the
person he broke up with. It was clear that the song was an acoustic
song through the use of mis en scene. I do agree with the audience
feedback in the sense that the guitar playing didn’t look too genuine
and the lip movements were off however we did all we could with the
technology we were provided. We went by one archetype in the
sense that every acoustic music video must have the guitar in there
somewhere. We decided to follow it and not challenge it. Daniel
Chandler’s theory said a genre is constituted by the conventions,
theory and style shared by texts belonging to them. I feel that we’ve
generally followed his theory because we didn’t break any
conventions within this genre group. We followed all conventions
because we didn’t want to have a music video that did not match the
genre of the song.In the end I’m not disappointed with the feedback
that I received and I’m glad with the outcome of the music video.
