2. Please comment on the use of camera. Are the
shots in focus, white balance, framed?
o Most of the shots are focused well. There are a few shaky shots which
may need to be filmed again with a tripod. For example there is a lip sync
part, and also a slightly out of focus shot of his hands.
o The focus and white balance of the shots is very good and generally
consistent. As the person above pointed out, a few shots are bit shaky
and might be worth reshooting, but aside from that, its very good.
o Many of the shots are well focused, a little bit shaky at the start of the
music video.
3. Please comment on the types of shots. Are
there a variety of shots, angles, movement?
o Lots of different shots used to good effect. Would suggest more
tracking/ moving shots of the artist.
o I really like the variety of shots and the use of empty space etc to
contribute to the narrative. I think there could be a bit more variety in
the shots used in the performance sections.
o There is a variety of shots, angles and movement. The shots transition
well too. The shots are well paced so they work well with the music.
4. Has close attention been paid to the Mise en
scene. Does this reflect the genre of the
music/artist?
o Yes. You can tell its an old mans house and the features match the music
as its about a lonely man- the things inside the house are old and dated.
o Definitely, the settings are very naturalistic and ordinary and it feels very
personal and quite moving as a result of that. The shots of old photos
definitely work well due to the contrast against the shots of the man in
present day.
o Very close attention to mis-en-scene has been reflected. This works well
with the genre of the music and the artist. At 0:22 there is a reflection in
the picture which you might consider revising.
5. Is the narrative strong enough alongside the
performance?
o I can tell what is going on. The use of family photos and the jewellery box
help tell the story. I think it is very effective.
o I like the barebones style of it – its not overpowering and works well in
contrast to the more dynamic performance. I was a bit confused about if
there was any sort of link between the two, such as the boy being the old
man when he was younger or something?
o Yes.
6. Are the length of shots too long?
o No because it fits the style of the music video, and the shots have been
edited to match the beat of the music.
o No, I think it works well with the emotional style and slow pacing of the
video.
o No, I think they work well with the style of music. The video appears to
be mature and emotional so they work well alongside one another.
