Benburg And Krohn Analysis
In "Labeling, Life Chances, and Adult Crime" by Benburg & Krohn page 1291 under "STRUCTURAL LOCATION AND LABELING" they
argue about different labeling theory. "(Ageton and Elliott, 1974; Jensen, 1972). Benburg & Krohn discuss how Structural location, such as race or
social class, may provide people with differential means to resist deviant labeling in the face of official intervention. But when you're in a higher
status you have more credibility, you have a have something to protect, because you are judged by every moves you do, it's more likely people are
very aware of your mistakes, therefore when it comes to law enforcement, if you're in a higher status and commit any felony you definitely y have

There's some similarities s and differences in this two theories. Although higher statuses people are more vulnerable to labeling, but they have more
power than lower status people which makes harder for these offender to be caught, they use their status to get away with crimes. On the other hand
Lower status people have nothing to lose which can help the law enforcement reporting any suspicious act from higher status people. In "Capturing the
Friedmans" Friendmans is your typical middle class American family. Arnold was a well–respected music and computer teacher, married father of

Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia
it might be said:
I Introduction
The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly links corporate interests to those of the shareholders,
with little or no consideration given to the employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts of
corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided
as to why the hybrid approach remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid solution identified to get
corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders.
II Discussion
A Defining 'corporate governance' and 'regulation'
Over the past few decades the term 'corporate governance' has become quite commonplace, with considerable debate arising as to the intersection
between 'corporate governance' and 'regulation. The scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing 'the structures,
processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained, monitored and accounted for in the management of a
corporation'.
Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad–ranging, but they ultimately highlight the role of regulation in controlling
corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative

This relationship between consumption and welfare (happiness) was termed the "Dependence Effect" by Galbraith. Galbraith foresaw grave
consequences flowing from this preoccupation with consumption and growth. He felt it imperiled economic security from the runaway growth in
consumer debt that is part of the salesmanship activities (Stanfield, 1983).
In Friedrich Hayek's 1961 response to the "Dependence Effect," he outlines why Galbraith's conclusion does not logically flow from previous examples
and statements in the Affluent Society. Heyek's counter–argument is based consumers' acquisition of taste through cultural interactions and
socialization versus through channels directed by want–creating activities of producers (Hayek, 1961). 3.2 Modern Criticism of Marketing – Branding
In Naomi Klein's 2002 book, No Logo, she "skewered the role of brands in contemporary culture and the insidious power of corporations to infiltrate
institutions throughout society, including schools and hospitals" (Rutland, 2009). This anti–corporate sediment was triggered by branding practices
creating artificiality by stretching the notion of value and not taking into consideration aspects of corporate social responsibility. Brand equity mania
in the 1980s was defined by the moment when Philip Morris purchased Kraft for $12.6 billion, an amount six times its book value. The price
difference between balance sheet valuations and the price paid was attributed to the value of the

Should Marijuana Be Legal?
What is the new question on the table with politicians and law enforcement officials alike? The question is whether or not it is time to legalize, tax,
and create a lucrative industry out of marijuana. For a few decades now the idea of legalizing marijuana has been met with fierce opposition and seen
as being nearly impossible to accomplish. The current state of our economy and criminal corrections system have actually made the option of
legalizing marijuana for financial aid as not only a viable option but a prudent one (Cohen, 2009). From a sociological standpoint it almost seems to be
common sense to legalize and tax the plant. The research supporting the benefits of marijuana in the fields of finance, healthcare, economic stimulation,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What potential domino effects would this act show under a macro–level analysis? I feel that a socialized shift will come out of both the economic crisis
and the legalization of marijuana. A somewhat more Marxist style of social order could possibly be the end result of all of this. The common
sense of it seems to be the driving factor for this movement. It is no longer seen as being a desperate plea from stoned out hippies. This idea has
reached some of the highest offices in our land. States have already begun to ratify and reform laws based on marijuana (Cohen, 2009). The only
issue that I can see is the culture shock that the country would feel. It would be a radical difference from what we have been used to. "What 's that
you say? You can buy rolled joints at the Exxon?" These types of questions will be the tip of the iceberg. After a little bit of time, people will
become comfortable with the idea and a new page will be turned in the American history books. We have seen a few countries receive a significant
revenue boost after legalizing marijuana. California has reformed laws to also potentially gain revenue from marijuana. Will America finally come
around to what millions have been already saying? Will America legalize and tax pot? We may have an answer sooner than we expect. Works Cited

Introduction As the opioid epidemic takes hold throughout American's rural counties, public health departments are struggling to mitigate the health
threats presented by substance abuse and addiction. While detailed longitudinal data is unavailable, many areas that report increased rates of drug
abuse also report increased hospital admissions and accidental deaths. While the relationship between these outcomes is not explicit, it is important to
implement interventions that address health issues related to drug related injuries. The first, ACHESS, an employee assistance program, utilizes
organizational resources to empower employees to seek recovery assistance. The second, Project DAWN, focuses on harm reduction strategies to assist

Social network actors can also influence user behavior through everyday interactions and behavioral modeling (Bandura, 2001; Perdue et al., 2013).
Between 2000 and 2013, opioid overdoses in the United States quadrupled (CDC, 2016b). More specifically, Ohio's Scioto County reported 58
overdose deaths per 100,000 of the population (County Health Rankings, 2017). Ohio exceeds the national average in emergency room visits, with
891,000 admittances in 2013 alone (Ohio Governor's Office of Health Transformation, 2013). Scioto County sits within the highest tier of affected
areas along with metropolitan areas, and exceeds the average rate of premature age–adjusted mortality among population members younger than 75
(County Health Rankings, 2017; Ohio Governor's Office of Health Transformation, 2013). Longitudinal data explicitly capturing the relationship
between drug abuse and hospitalizations is scant, thereby indicating a need for more effective data–keeping, as well as improved emergency responses
for rural populations (Unick, Rosenblum, & Ciccarone, 2013; Rudd et al., 2016). Evidence–based interventions ACHESS: Drug Free Workplace

Who Is Jarecki Justified In Capturing The Friedmans Truly...
In "True Confessions, Sort of," Paul Arthur delves into filmmaker Andrew Jarecki's questionable ethics in presenting Capturing the Friedmans. More
specifically, does Jarecki's operating under the guise of neutrality "enable (him) to evade responsibility for dealing with the complexities of his
material?"(Arthur 7). Furthermore, does a documentary have a moral obligation to its viewers, or is it simply there to present a riveting story?
Capturing the Friedmans details the horrific case of Arthur Friedman and his son, Jessie, who were accused and convicted of child molestation. The
documentary not only centers on Arthur and Jessie but also provides intimate glimpses of this dysfunctional family. Through the use of home videos
dispersed with interviews, the film simultaneously portrays an upwardly mobile family from a wealthy suburb of Long Island and their down ward
spiral caused by these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, was this truly accurate? Was Jarecki really in search of the "elusivetruth" or was it actually a "mutually enhancing exploitation?" (Arthur 6)
In the film we see conflicting testimonies and interviews but Jarecki rarely delves deeper and seems to omit presumably important facts (i.e. where
were Elaine and the other siblings during computer class?). It seems that Jarecki is more concerned about telling a compelling story than uncovering
the truth behind the case. In addition, one questions whether the filmmaker was in fact neutral or did he employ "dramatic liberties (to) distort
actuality?" (Arthur 5) In the documentary we see Jessie stating that it is "not appropriate to have to answer for the sins of my Father," which hints at
Jarecki's belief that Jessie is in fact innocent and wrongly convicted. This demonstrates Jarecki's lack of neutrality, which is supported by the fact that
Jarecki mounted a legal defense for Jessie following the film's

Abstract–ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP is a business concept for automation and planning. In today's fast changing scenario
ERP becomes one of the most demanding and successful concept in business world. Today the concept of ERP is being used by almost every
segment of the business and industry worldwide. It is most sought after concept in management now. Basically it is a solution to all management
processes and problems. It includes solutions for all the domains that can think of. It can be customized or better to say tailor made according to
need and requirement. Like every other business and management solutions it has a history and life cycle. It is being successfully used by some
major vendors worldwide and some local vendors too. It is well implemented by the organizations like SAP and Oracle. These IT giants capture a
large share of market. But still the major portion is left and which is pointed out by small local ERP solution providers with their own version of
ERP. Now capturing the unclaimed market is the new war. Even organizations like Microsoft and SAP are also offering their new version of ERP
software for SME's (Small Medium Enterprise).

Capturing the Friedmans
"Home movies are about innocence––our lost fuzzy, glowing personal pasts, all horseplay, and funny hats and the promise of youth" (Cooper, 23).
Andrew Jarecki's remarkable film, Capturing the Friedmans captured just what is clearly a case study of extreme family dysfunction through such home
videos. At first Andrew Jarecki just wanted to do a nice little documentary about clowns. He decided to try film making and thought he would cut his
teeth on something easy like birthday party clowns. He had met David Friedman a top childrens birthday party clown from Manhattan, New York.
Much to his surprise David ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also in this search that the inspectors began to have suspicions that the crimes could have involved local children who came to the room for
music lessons and computer classes. Jarecki successfully emphasizes the situation leading up to Arnold's arrest that he gives the audience such
imagery of what was in Arnold's house that we start to believe that he is guilty of sex crimes. "With notable skill, Jarecki and his editor Richard
Hankin, have interwoven the family movies with interviews of the Friedmans, relevant police officials, postal inspectors, some lawyers, and
specialists of several kinds" (Kauffmann, 25). Jarecki uses editing for persuasion. As the film begins and starts to get going we are exposed to
numerous interviews that both support and oppose Arnold and Jesse. Jarecki favorably edits opposing points of view together in order to
emphasize the complexity and moral underpinnings of the case. For example the shots when Arnold and Jesse are arrested, during those scenes we
see and hear from their lawyer Peter. From there we see views of their trial and views of the lawyer. Andrew Jarecki also keeps the issue of guilt and
innocence darkened with the use of editing. As in the part of the film David talks about how his

Bad Jews Play Analysis
Bad Jews, written by Joshua Harmon, directed by Dana Friedman Resnick, and produced by PURE Theatre Company, is the story of a broken,
modern day Jewish family in Manhattan, New York' Upper West Side. In the wake of their grandfather's death, three surviving grandchildren must
work out their differences over the possession a family heirloom. I believe the play explores the concept of religion and how each cousin deals with the
ideas and beliefs instilled in them through their Jewish background. To me, it seems the playwright was attempting to explain the importance of
accepting other peoples beliefs and cultures, most importantly those of family. However, Harmon put a negative spin on the lesson by giving his
characters pessimistic attitudes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making the sleeping area the main focal point of the set Heffner implied that it would be the most important part of the play. The large stereo, tv,

with the costumes. The lighting, also done by Heffner, captures the time of day perfectly. The room is lit by lamps and "ceiling" lights implying night
while the window above the table changes between several shades of blue to imply the setting of the sun. Heffner does and amazing job of capturing
the viewers attention by dimming the lights in the apartment and drawing the gaze of the audience out into the hall when the characters are outside the

Vertigo Scottie Vs Friedman
In the works Thin Blue Line, Capturing the Friedmans, and Vertigo the creation of reality and the truth brings justice to wrongdoers, and those who
have been wronged. Specifically, the documentaries Thin Blue Line, and Capturing the Friedmans create a reality that is ambiguous in an effort to
show that no one actually know the truth of the situations in the documentaries. Meanwhile in the film Vertigo Scottie recreates his past lover, and
inadvertently brings the truth out about her death.

In the film, Scottie quickly falls with the heroine Madeline, and through a series of unfortunate events sees her jump to her death. However, one
day when walking the streets of the city, he spots a woman,Judy, who likes strikingly similar to his past lover. After spotting her he impulsively
begins to recreate the reality of Madeline through Judy by forcing her to dye her hair, and wear the same exact clothes Madeleine wore, and
Rothman describes Scottie's "refusal to let his love be lost" as the source of these monstrous actions (Rotham 231). However, it is this inability to
let his past go that leads him to recreate a reality and bring forth the truth. Even so, after he recreates his lover Madeleine, it is not until Judy makes
the mistake of wearing the same neckless his former lover did that sparks realization for Scottie. After seeing this he is prompted to take Judy to the
sight where Madeleine was killed, and confront her about her involvement in the murder of Madeline. After overcoming his vertigo, Scottie find
himself at the top of the bell tower with Judy, where she ends up jumping to her death. In doing so, retributive justice is brought to Madeline seeing
that her killer dies the same way she did. However, none of this would have not been possible without Scottie's effort to recreate the reality of his lover
Madeleine. It is through this recreation that truth behind Judy's identity, and the cause of Madeline's death is

and overcame any prejudice thinking because she was a woman. Before dying at the age of eighty–seven, she had gained the respect of women and

At this time Paris was fun and careless before the French Revolution of 1789 released its horrors on it. But the outbreak of the revolution changed
everything, and with all of the violence around, she fled France with her daughter to find safety in Italy (Moffat and Mossman). When she returned,
Paris was a completely different place. However, the demand for her art had not changed. Vigee Le Brun is considered a painter of therococo period.
Rococo is best described as an eighteenth century art style that places importance on the carefree life rather than grand heroes. Originally the rococo
fashion started in Paris, where Vigee Le Brun was born. It changed the way people looked at art and the world in general (Bleiberg). Vigee Le Brun
not only used the rococo style in her art, but also to influence fashion, persuading women to wear simple, high waist shifts, which would be an
important stepping stone in changing fashion forever. By refusing to put powder in her hair, she made being natural beautiful. If it weren't for her
innovations we might still be wearing Victorian gowns and wigs. She made fashion and styles for young women, such as herself, more daring and
interesting (Steadman). Vigee Le Brun brought artistic integrity in being a woman artist. She created interest in her art with her exploration of the
relationships between creativity and sexuality in the eighteenth century (Oliver). So as you can see, Vigee Le Brun changed the way people look at

Benefits Of A Sugar Tax
Compare & Contrast Essay: Sugar Tax
Just last year, Berkeley's and San Francisco's ballots included measure that would tax sugary drinks one or two cents per ounce because of their high
sugar content. Berkley, less than thirty minutes away from San Francisco, became the first city in the United states to adopt the tax while San
Francisco became the thirty–first city to oppose it (Knight). As the tax and its ideas gain popularity, more cities are including the measure for the tax
in their elections. The issue is that America's obesity rates have skyrocketed over the past twenty years and have cost our country about $147 billion
dollars in health expenses a year (Reinberg). One of the proposed ways to fix this problem is a sugar tax. It is a tax targeted at hydro processed
overbought snacks with a high sugar content that have been proven to cause health risks. This would be similar to alcohol and tobacco. We can still
buy these products but warning labels are placed on them and a tax is levied to offset the costs of what could happen to a person 's health after over
consumption of these items. Proponents of this tax argue that sugar is one of the main causes of obesity to surge and a tax will be a useful deterrent
when buying overly sugared items. Opponents of the tax argue that taxation is an ineffective way to get consumers to stop buying sugary items and it
will most directly impact poorer families. Also, the government should not have the control to tell us what we can and

Literary Themes and Symbols of the Holocaust
Literary Themes and Symbols of the Holocaust
Although Holocaust literature focuses on a specific period in world history, it also contains some common themes and symbols that help to define this
era. The butterfly, for instance, is a symbol for the ephemeral lives of Holocaust children. A child, Pavel Friedman, wrote a poem titled "The Butterfly"
during his time in a concentration camp. Since then, the butterfly has been a Holocaust theme for the large number of children who did not survive. A
book,I Never Saw Another Butterfly, compiled by Inge Auerbacher, a Holocaust survivor at TerezГ
n, features artwork, poems (including Friedman's
poem), and words from many of the young children who died inside TerezГn's walls. Patricia Polacco'sThe Butterfly also connects to this symbol as a
butterfly gets crushed in a fist, helping show young children the horrors that occurred during the Holocaust in ways that could easily be understood.
The theme of voice is also prevalent in many works. Some literary pieces, likeThe Diary of a Young Girl, explore how the absence of a voice keeps
families safe; others show the power of the voice as they speak out against the atrocities of the time. Trains are also a main symbol in Holocaust
literature, especially inNight. These modes of transportation are what carried Jews from their old lives to their new ones. Some were on trains escaping
persecution; others were on their way to concentration camps; both had uncertain futures. God and the

It currently trades very close to its 52 week low ($31.88 vs $29.50), yet it potentially offers more than 50 percent upside. The high valuation ratios
should be overlooked because the company is undergoing extreme revenue growth rates, which may negatively affect those ratios. The NPV/Shares
Outstanding allows Fitbit to trade at $50/share if it adhered to its intrinsic value. Fitbit also separates itself from other, young tech companies because
it is one of the few that are profitable. Another Fitbit competitor, Jawbone has been around since 1999, yet still struggles to make profit each year. This
demonstrates the Fitbit's superiority as a whole. Alongside its discount to intrinsic value, Fitbit also presents healthy fundamentals. Revenue

Stereotypes In The Film Molested Children During The 1970's
The first few minutes of the movie realizing Arnold had child pornography, lead me to also jump to conclusions that Arnold could have molested the
children that he taught computer classes to. It just raised a red flag for further investigation. Once the wife mentioned that there is a difference between
having those magazines for one's pleasure is different than acting upon that pleasure, it led me to check my own emotions and not to let that influence
my decision. I understand during the 1980s there was an outrage on child sexual abuse that added more pressure to the officers on top of their own
emotions and conducted the case unethically. Another thing I had an issue with was Arnold's therapist. He sought out a therapist because he was worried

Capturing the Friedman's
Capturing the Friedman's Capturing the Friedman's is directed by Andrew Jarecki. The film focuses on the 1980's investigation and conviction of
Arnold Friedman and his son Jesse Friedman on charges of child molestation. This film could certainly be put into the category of accidental
excellence as Andrew Jarecki was initially interested in creating a documentary on New York City clowns and it was only through his interviews with
David Friedman (the most successful of Manhattan clowns) that he stumbled upon a goldmine of a back–story. The result is a fascinating and
revealing documentary about suburban family dysfunction. The Friedman's were a middle class Jewish family living on Long Island with their three

It is interesting to see a person with so much pain and suffering perform and bring joy to small children. You cannot escape the irony that small
children were the reason for his father's and brother's incarceration, and yet they are the focus of his career. The film "Capturing the Friedman's"
also has a certain amount of interactivity which can be observed in David's home footage where he is posing questions to his brother, father and
his mother. In one scene we see David and Jesse turn against their mother in their father's defense, accusing her of betraying the family. We witness
David's hostility mount throughout the film. During the entire film we see Jarecki asking questions to one of the supposed victims who is lying on
the couch while the interview is being conducted. It is seemingly very tough to draw a conclusion from the film because the film keeps jumping in
all directions and Jarecki keeps throwing shocking tidbits of information at you. There is one curve ball after another which leaves us with so many
questions lurking in our minds that it is very hard to figure out if Arnold Friedman was really innocent or not. However the film itself is very well
crafted and Jarecki was able to weave a unified story from all those interviews and family

Night And Fog Comparative Essay
The documentaries "Night and Fog", and "Capturing the Friedmans", both were created to move their audience in a way to get desired reactions.
Nevertheless, while they both were created to move their audience, the motivation behind the two are quite different. "Night and Fog was created to
serve as a warning for people about the dangers of cruelty, while "Capturing the Friedmans was made in a way to have viewers question the guilt of the
two Friedmans convicted of sexuals assault. Alain Resnais' documentary "Night and Fog" is a film that focuses on the atrocities that took place within
the concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Even so while while the focal point of the film is the Holocaust, this film is not a story about the oppression

To do so, Andrew Jarecki portrays a sense of innocence and ambiguity from the alleged perpetrators, and victims.. One of the most profunding ways in
which a sense of ambiguity is portrayed within this work is the absence of recollection. Within the film Arnold Friedman confesses to the fact that as a
child, he sexaully assaulted his younger brother while in bed. However, when his brother is asked about this instance, he denies it all and claims it
never happened. These moments are then paired with other instances of ambiguity such as the montage of interviews where former students will speak
upon an instance of sexual assault within the computer classes, only to then have another former student deny every claim previously made. This
absence of a universal truth works to make viewers question whether or not the assault happened. This ambiguity is then accompanied by home videos
of the family dealing with infighting, denial, and total frustration with the entire process: in effect humanizing the men. Through this humanization its
becomes increasingly harder for an audience to find guilt in the men. This process of reflexivity, allows audiences to view the stories of these two men
from a different standpoint, and come to a different conclusion in regards to guilt of these men, than of before. In effect the audience can be moved to

Essay about Capturing the Friedmans
Capturing the Friedmans In 2003, Andrew Jarecki released his documentary "Capturing the Friedmans", which explores a seemingly normal
middle–class families struggle when the father and son are charged with sexual abuse and molestation in 1987. The Friedman's from the outside seem
like a healthy family, abiding in a fairly exclusive Great Neck, Long Island community; the father Arnold is a Columbia Graduate and a school teacher,
while the mother Elaine, a housewife. They have three sons David, Seth, and Jessie whom appear to be a happy, intelligent, and good–humored group
of brothers. The power and prestige of this film comes not from its controversial and serious subject matter, but from the unbiased way in which the
story is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when Arnold (power) fell, everything else can be described by Elaine's metaphor from the film: "If there is a rowboat and its sinking, and the
rowboat is tied to a rock, you have to disconnect the rowboat, even though the rock is sinking." The father Arnold Friedman was initially under
investigation because child pornography ordered in his name from Europe was intersected by the police, and being a school teacher this raised a
number of ethical issues. Through a police set up Arnold was tricked into taking the magazine from a police officer, and thus a search warrant was
instituted. The police found piles of child pornography magazines hidden next to his piano, and in his office. His wife seemed unaware of these
magazines, but not because Arnold Although, the photographs of the crime scene show an organized normal looking house, the polices claims make
it sound like they had porno on their coffee table. Regardless of this, Arnold had a history of fervent sexuality in his life, beginning in early childhood
he was exposed to the very private and sexual part of his mothers life, and therefor starting exploring his own sexuality through mimicking behavior he
had seen with his younger brother. Arnold overdosed on antidepressants and killed himself while he was still in jail, although David remembers it as a
heart attack. The mother Elaine Friedman seemed very emotionally removed and

In Favor of a More Liberal Drug Policy Essay
In Favor of a More Liberal Drug Policy In William J. Bennett's address entitled "Drug Policy and the Intellectuals," Bennett maintains that the drug
problem in America can be ultimately solved. In my opinion, the drug problem in America is one that cannot be completely resolved to the point
where drug use no longer exists in America, but drug abuse can be alleviated. One effective way to do this would be to legalize the personal use of drugs
that are more common and less potent (like marijuana), and to stop wasting time and tax dollars punishing minor offenders. Legalizing the use of soft
drugs would help bolster the U.S. economy, partially because the government would have the ability to tax these drugs. This includes... Show more

A policy that focuses on imprisoning all drug users and dealers is the type of policy that is prone to hurt America economically.
Drug prohibition may be a factor that is actually encouraging the spread of harder drugs. As government officials and police officers become more
skilled in capturing drug smugglers and dealers, the pushers find more efficient ways to transport and conceal drugs, creating a larger supply and
often making hard drugs more accessible and affordable to the common user. Although the government has succeeded in raising marijuana prices
from $20 and ounce in the 1960's to $200 an ounce today, the price of cocaine has fallen from $50,000 a kilo in the 1970's to $10,000 a kilo today.
Also, the potency and composition of these drugs is often unpredictable. If the government legalized these more minor drugs, as Milton Friedman
pointed out in his essay "There's No Justice in the War on Drugs," they'd have the ability to regulate them and make them less dangerous than they
would have been if they'd been sold on the street.
Bennett's arguments against the legalization of drugs are somewhat one–sided. This may have been why I was more convinced by Friedman's essay,
which relied more on concrete facts than on the pretense that the opposing argument was trivial. In "Drug Policy and the Intellectuals," Bennett says,
"To call it a 'debate' suggests that the arguments in favor of drug legalization are rigorous, substantial,

Case Study On Kantianism
Introduction Values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. They ought to decide your priorities, and, where it
counts, they are probably the measures you use to tell if your life is turning out the way you want it to. The following values are the ones that
resonate with me. These are the top priorities for me to live to pass along to my children and everyone in my life: a.Honesty. To live genuinely; to live
honesty, keeps our hearts and souls pure and our minds free of uncertainty or vulnerability. When we are honest, we know we are doing the correct
things. b.Responsibility. Being responsible implies that others can depend on you, that you complete your promises or work. c.Humility. It isn't being...

Kant is a non–consequentialist, meaning the end results do not justify the means. Higher profits do not justify the choice to deceive. Kant mentioned
that nothing is good in itself except good will. I will not be acting from good will if I decided to be deceitful. Even though the organization's main end
goal is to maximize profit, human's lives do not have a price. An organization should never forget that it exists because of its individuals. I would not
use people as a means to an end and not to dehumanize human beings. I would do the right thing, not to behave egoistically, and not to rationalize.

Ethics of Deception in Advertising
Ethics of deception in advertising: Why is deceptive advertising morally objectionable? 1. Introduction In the world of today, the role of marketing
within the business community has increased exponentially. Nowadays' consumers are presented with countless purchase opportunities, numerous
providers and various points of value. In order to attract and retain their buyers, economic agents devise and implement a wide array of strategic
efforts, including the creation of strong and aggressive marketing campaigns. Marketing today is virtually present in all aspects of life and it addresses
virtually anybody, from young children to senior consumers, and selling anything from toys and diapers to medicine. And in ensuring an increase in the
demand for the advertised product, often times marketers use deception in their campaigns. The specialized literature on the aspect of deception in
advertising is rather scarce and its primary shortage is that of not having coined a universally accepted definition of deceptive advertising. Additionally,
another problem is raised by the fact that deceptive advertising is often accepted as unethical, yet evidence lacks in this sense. In such a context then,
the current project sets out to establish a more thorough understanding of the concept of deceptive advertising and to assess its ethical dimension. 2.

Review Discussion of Chris Hackley (2013), Marketing in Context Chapters 1,2 and 6
Chris Hackley presents his book making an original comparison between a theatre and marketing. The author underlines the importance that the
background has in both situations. In order to do this, he uses the French word "mise–en–scГЁne", which can be literally translated in "setting the
scene". What he is therefore saying is that he will give an overall explanation of how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This change is due to the advancement of digital communication in the last decade. Hackley indeed dedicates a small part of the second chapter to write
about this subject, but the section is minimal. Hackley didn't expand the topic but only made some obvious statements saying for example that: it is
important for marketing organizations to understand the context of the market and of the consumer or that many marketing offers nowadays have an
internet presence (Hackley, 2013, pages56–57). The importance of technology for marketing should be underlined in a more effective way. Many of the
actions that a consumer makes are in fact related to the technology, for example the phenomenon of online shopping is diffusing, furthermore, there are
automatized processes of production, mass media and advertising. Hackley only spoke superficially about this topic; a more precise example and
explanation could have been useful. Other marketing books such as "Contemporary Issues in Marketing and Consumer Behaviour" (Parsons and
Maclaran, 2009) have an entire chapter dedicated to the evolution of marketing in relation to technology where they wrote about videography, blogs
and data capturing through computers.
Marketing can be defined as communication between consumer and producer (Hackley, 2013, page29). This subject is progressing as

Health Information Technology And The Health Care Industry...
Health information technology, also known as H.I.T, is an area of IT that involves the development and maintenance of information for the health
care industry. This technology allows for healthcare information systems to be automated and interoperable, which leads to improved medical care,
lower costs and increased efficiency. Some H.I.T. professions include: clinical data analyst, CMIO and nursing informaticist. A clinical data analyst
develops, designs and manages data tracking systems and evaluates the data results from clinical trials. A CMIO, or chief medical informatics
officer, is a health care executive who is responsible to bridge the gap between medical and IT departments at a health care organization. Nursing
informaticists is a profession which integrates nursing science with informational management. These professions are becoming more in demand
because of the national push for advanced healthcare technology. On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama had signed the American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) which included the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. His goal was
for the United States to adopt technology so it would help the nation improve its quality of health care and lower its cost. Under the HITECH Act, the
federal government would provide 14 to 30 billion dollars over ten years in incentives to hospitals and health care professionals who used Health IT,

There is an old saying that there is an 8–year–old child inside every person, "Transformers" is just the movie to bring out the kid in everyone. Big,
loud and full of testosterone–fuelled car fantasies, Michael Bay's actioner hits a new peak for CGI work, showcasing spectacular chases and animated

There are approximately 630 visual effects shots in the film that had to be shot individual shots in order to capture the proper theme of the storyline.
Technical advancements were made in environments, lighting, and simulation of physical effects and integration of CG characters in a real
environment. This movie was a true success through the use of well–known actors, and by using proper voice over acting throughout this film. Actors
such as Tyrese Gibson (SGT Epps), Magan Fox (Mikaela Banes), and John Keller (John Turturro) just to name a few of the actors that made this movie
a huge success. The reason acting played a significant role in the accomplishment of this movie was because they had to act without having the most
significant actors being present, the Transformers themselves. All the acting conducted in this movie had to be conducted without the use of real
robot actors and most by standing in front of blue screens. By the use of editing the theatrical scenes were superimposed into the background of the
acting conducted. It took a team of editors and computer programmers in order to accomplish this mission. This leads us into our second topic for
discussion, the type and style of directing along with how this movie was edited. The director of "Transformers", "Michael Bay", is a very hands on

20th Century Photography
The 20th Century was one of the bloodiest times in human history. It was a time of war, with death tolls from politically motivated conflicts between
175 and 200 million worldwide. Over the course of the century, the nature of war blurred and then wrecked older distinctions between battlefield and
city, soldier and civilian, peacetime and wartime. In this essay I will talk about how the role of the 20th century evolved and of how technologies and
techniques helped in defining photography. I will also talk about the impacted of Robert Capa.

Memory And Repression Analysis
Memory used for testimony and convictions can be a very controversial way to incarcerate those who are being accused of a crime. For instance, some
may believe that witness statements are reliable evidence able to prove someone's innocence or guiltiness. Despite this, witness statements may contain
lies or hidden, yet essential, parts of the truth that had been purposefully forgotten, which is also known as repression. In addition, witnesses or
victims who have experienced trauma will most likely experience amnesia as a result of facing an appalling act. Memories of witnesses or victims
should not be used to convict people who are allegedly charged with a crime.
Many interviewers tend to interfere with the victim's current memories by pressuring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such case depicts this scenario, which is the Friedmans case. In the documentary, Capturing the Friedmans, former computer students who had
once attended Arnold's classes were interviewed about the situation. When asked whether they had recalled anything inappropriate going on in that
class, some admitted while others denied. This just goes to show that using memories is inaccurate and repression are sometimes used to deny these
accusations. However, even if these people were not using repression, they may be experiencing amnesia due to the traumatic occurrences of these
horrendous events that happened during their childhood. Nonetheless, whether the former computer students did lie or truthfully forgot about it, these
memories should still not be used to convict people wrongfully without hardcore evidence.
To sum up, courts should not use memories of witnesses as a way to imprison those who are charged with a crime. This is because memories tend to be
easily influenced and can also contain concealed lies within it. As a result, there is inaccurate information told in the witnesses' statements.
Furthermore, interviewers include lots of bias in their questions, which eventually screws up the truth since the potential victims are put into too much
pressure. Memories should not be used to convict people with a crime because it is an unreliable approach to claim someone guilty or

Essay on Defining Voluntarism

Realism, Reflective Endorsement, and the Appeal to Autonomy. For the purpose of this essay, I will be defining Voluntarism, outlining the argument
that Korsgaard presents for Voluntarism, and explain her criticism for why it fails. First of all, let me start off by defining the meaning of Voluntarism.
Voluntarism is the theory that God or the ultimate nature of reality is to be conceived as some form of will (or conation). This theory is contrasted to
intellectualism, which gives primacy to God's reason. (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy) The will, as referred to in the... Show more content on

Christine Korsgaard's criticism for the reason why the theory of Voluntarism fails reflects upon the fact that the authority or divine power making
the laws can make anything right or wrong. Korsgaard goes on to explain a situation in which you are a student in her department and are thereby
required to take a particular course, in this case, a logic course in order to receive your degree. If you are in her department and she, having
authority over you, requires you to take the course and you fail to do so, then you are at risk of not receiving your degree. On the other hand, if
you are not a student in her department, she can give several reasons as to why the logic course is needed but you are not required to take the
course and can hereby make a decision as to whether or not you wish to take the course, which Korsgaard goes on to explain, is why authority is
needed in order to enforce the laws. You can take the course because you realize the importance, out of fear of not receiving your degree, or just for
the simple fact that it is a required course. Even if the obligation was removed, the question lies among whether or not the moral agent will continue
to perform the duty. It is Korsgaard's theory that a governing body is needed to enforce the obligation in order for the action to take place and that
governing body is, in what she believes, our own self. We "command ourselves" to do what is morally right, good, and just. For example, prior to the

Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson. Her surroundings were comfortable and friendly. Two years after
Shirley was born, her family with her newborn brother moved from San Francisco to Burlingame, California, about thirty miles away. "According to

through to the modern age, understanding and interpreting man's emotions and body language have been a source of both fasicnation and a point of
intellectual debate. The ancient philosophers, such as Aristotle, proposed the idea that the face takes on varying appearances which are characteristic
of each of the passions (or emotions) of humankind. The famous Greek masks of the theatre embody exaggerated facial expressions in order to

In this way, the son inherits this soft characteristic and the facial expression becomes a feature of soft inheritance. In Use and Disuse Theory,
adaptation in a species occurs because complex force drives organisms further up a ladder of increasing complexity. Then, environmental force adapts
organisms to their local environment. Adaptation evolves by using some characteristics more than others based upon differing environments. Those
characteristics not used or needed as much drop off and those needed to suit a particular environment are passed on. In some ways, the so–called Ghost
of Lamarck left its impressions upon Darwin and sparked a debate among evolutionary theorists as to whether characteristics like facial

biologically programmed responses to basic human survival. Universality of Facial Expressions Darwinian thought holds that facial expressions are
universal in nature and evolved in man alongside his basic struggle for survival. These facial expressions developed in order to protect and keep the

pain. Watching this response, the tribe knows not to taste this plant because this facial expression has long been biologically ingrained

that he can no longer enjoy reading a book of any length because he cannot sustain concentration on the book (Carr 1). This is a result of the fact that
when people use the internet to find information, they habituate themselves to skim along the lines to quickly allocate their answers and once they

Even before the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11th 2001, Afghanistan was probably the most isolated country
in the world. Only three other states recognised its rulers, who in the mid–1990s had swept across the country to impose a very strict and distinctive
form of Islamic law upon the Afghan people, ending nearly 20 years of civil war in the 90% or so of the country which they control. Osama Bin Laden,
an exiled Saudi Arabian who is the USA's prime suspect for the World Trade Centre atrocity and other terrorist attacks in the 1990s, had based his
Al–Qa'ida organisation in Afghanistan since 1996. The Taliban said that Bin Laden was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Afghan people have suffered greatly under Taliban rule, especially women and ethnic and religious minority groups, and they deserve a different
and better government. In the past few years the Taliban have made it very difficult for the UN and other aid agencies to deliver humanitarian relief in
Afghanistan, so in the
Medium term an invasion would improve matters.
Even if the Taliban were judged to be equally guilty with Bin Laden, the Afghan people are not; the Taliban conquered the country with the help of
Bin Laden and thousands of other foreign, mostly Arab, fighters, and their rule is heavily oppressive. The invasion of Afghanistan is still likely in
the long run to lead to a prolonged power struggle or civil war between different ethnic groups or local warlords, as before 1996. This will lead to
many innocent lives being lost in the crossfire, prevent humanitarian aid that is desperately needed after three years of drought reaching millions of
starving Afghans, and create a terrible refugee crisis.
Invasion was the only way to try to capture or destroy Bin Laden and his terrorist organisation. Bombing on its own can prepare the way for a ground
invasion, guaranteeing air supremacy and disrupting the enemy's command and control systems, but

Benburg And Krohn Analysis

  • 1. Benburg And Krohn Analysis In "Labeling, Life Chances, and Adult Crime" by Benburg & Krohn page 1291 under "STRUCTURAL LOCATION AND LABELING" they argue about different labeling theory. "(Ageton and Elliott, 1974; Jensen, 1972). Benburg & Krohn discuss how Structural location, such as race or social class, may provide people with differential means to resist deviant labeling in the face of official intervention. But when you're in a higher status you have more credibility, you have a have something to protect, because you are judged by every moves you do, it's more likely people are very aware of your mistakes, therefore when it comes to law enforcement, if you're in a higher status and commit any felony you definitely y have more to lose than a person in a lower status.... Although higher statuses people are more vulnerable to labeling, but they have more power than lower status people which makes harder for these offender to be caught, they use their status to get away with crimes. • 2. Corporate Governance And Regulation In Australia it might be said: I Introduction The primary problem with the current approach to regulation in Australia is that it predominantly links corporate interests to those of the shareholders, with little or no consideration given to the employees, the community, consumers and other stakeholders. This essay will explore the concepts of corporate governance and regulation and then critique the hard law, soft law and hybrid approaches to regulation. An explanation will then be provided as to why the hybrid approach remains the most appropriate regulation mechanism, followed by an explanation of the hybrid solution identified to get corporations to consider the interests of key stakeholders. II Discussion A Defining 'corporate governance' and 'regulation' Over the past few decades the term 'corporate governance' has become quite commonplace, with considerable debate arising as to the intersection between 'corporate governance' and 'regulation. The scope and content of corporate governance in and of itself is quite wide, capturing 'the structures, processes and systems, both formal and informal, by which power is exercised, constrained, monitored and accounted for in the management of a corporation'. Similarly, the definitions provided of regulation in literature are broad–ranging, but they ultimately highlight the role of regulation in controlling corporate conduct. Nonetheless, it should be noted that these mechanisms of control are not limited to legislation, administrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Galbraith foresaw grave consequences flowing from this preoccupation with consumption and growth. He felt it imperiled economic security from the runaway growth in consumer debt that is part of the salesmanship activities (Stanfield, 1983). In Friedrich Hayek's 1961 response to the "Dependence Effect," he outlines why Galbraith's conclusion does not logically flow from previous examples and statements in the Affluent Society. Heyek's counter–argument is based consumers' acquisition of taste through cultural interactions and socialization versus through channels directed by want–creating activities of producers (Hayek, 1961). 3.2 Modern Criticism of Marketing – Branding In Naomi Klein's 2002 book, No Logo, she "skewered the role of brands in contemporary culture and the insidious power of corporations to infiltrate institutions throughout society, including schools and hospitals" (Rutland, 2009). This anti–corporate sediment was triggered by branding practices creating artificiality by stretching the notion of value and not taking into consideration aspects of corporate social responsibility. Brand equity mania in the 1980s was defined by the moment when Philip Morris purchased Kraft for $12.6 billion, an amount six times its book value. • 5. Should Marijuana Be Legal? What is the new question on the table with politicians and law enforcement officials alike? The question is whether or not it is time to legalize, tax, and create a lucrative industry out of marijuana. For a few decades now the idea of legalizing marijuana has been met with fierce opposition and seen as being nearly impossible to accomplish. The current state of our economy and criminal corrections system have actually made the option of legalizing marijuana for financial aid as not only a viable option but a prudent one (Cohen, 2009). From a sociological standpoint it almost seems to be common sense to legalize and tax the plant. The research supporting the benefits of marijuana in the fields of finance, healthcare, economic stimulation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What potential domino effects would this act show under a macro–level analysis? I feel that a socialized shift will come out of both the economic crisis and the legalization of marijuana. A somewhat more Marxist style of social order could possibly be the end result of all of this. The common sense of it seems to be the driving factor for this movement. It is no longer seen as being a desperate plea from stoned out hippies. This idea has reached some of the highest offices in our land. States have already begun to ratify and reform laws based on marijuana (Cohen, 2009). The only issue that I can see is the culture shock that the country would feel. It would be a radical difference from what we have been used to. "What 's that you say? You can buy rolled joints at the Exxon?" These types of questions will be the tip of the iceberg. After a little bit of time, people will become comfortable with the idea and a new page will be turned in the American history books. We have seen a few countries receive a significant revenue boost after legalizing marijuana. California has reformed laws to also potentially gain revenue from marijuana. Will America finally come around to what millions have been already saying? Will America legalize and tax pot? We may have an answer sooner than we expect. Works Cited Cohen, Andrew. While the relationship between these outcomes is not explicit, it is important to implement interventions that address health issues related to drug related injuries. More specifically, Ohio's Scioto County reported 58 overdose deaths per 100,000 of the population (County Health Rankings, 2017). Ohio exceeds the national average in emergency room visits, with 891,000 admittances in 2013 alone (Ohio Governor's Office of Health Transformation, 2013). • 7. Who Is Jarecki Justified In Capturing The Friedmans Truly... In "True Confessions, Sort of," Paul Arthur delves into filmmaker Andrew Jarecki's questionable ethics in presenting Capturing the Friedmans. More specifically, does Jarecki's operating under the guise of neutrality "enable (him) to evade responsibility for dealing with the complexities of his material?"(Arthur 7). Furthermore, does a documentary have a moral obligation to its viewers, or is it simply there to present a riveting story? Capturing the Friedmans details the horrific case of Arthur Friedman and his son, Jessie, who were accused and convicted of child molestation. The documentary not only centers on Arthur and Jessie but also provides intimate glimpses of this dysfunctional family. Through the use of home videos dispersed with interviews, the film simultaneously portrays an upwardly mobile family from a wealthy suburb of Long Island and their down ward spiral caused by these ... (Arthur 6) In the film we see conflicting testimonies and interviews but Jarecki rarely delves deeper and seems to omit presumably important facts (i.e. where were Elaine and the other siblings during computer class?). It seems that Jarecki is more concerned about telling a compelling story than uncovering the truth behind the case. In addition, one questions whether the filmmaker was in fact neutral or did he employ "dramatic liberties (to) distort actuality?" (Arthur 5) In the documentary we see Jessie stating that it is "not appropriate to have to answer for the sins of my Father," which hints at Jarecki's belief that Jessie is in fact innocent and wrongly convicted. This demonstrates Jarecki's lack of neutrality, which is supported by the fact that Jarecki mounted a legal defense for Jessie following the film's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capturing the Friedmans Essay Steward 1 Melissa Steward Research Essay English 367.01 12/8/04 Capturing the Friedmans "Home movies are about innocence––our lost fuzzy, glowing personal pasts, all horseplay, and funny hats and the promise of youth" (Cooper, 23). Andrew Jarecki's remarkable film, Capturing the Friedmans captured just what is clearly a case study of extreme family dysfunction through such home videos. Jarecki successfully emphasizes the situation leading up to Arnold's arrest that he gives the audience such imagery of what was in Arnold's house that we start to believe that he is guilty of sex crimes. "With notable skill, Jarecki and his editor Richard Hankin, have interwoven the family movies with interviews of the Friedmans, relevant police officials, postal inspectors, some lawyers, and specialists of several kinds" (Kauffmann, 25). Jarecki uses editing for persuasion. As the film begins and starts to get going we are exposed to numerous interviews that both support and oppose Arnold and Jesse. Jarecki favorably edits opposing points of view together in order to emphasize the complexity and moral underpinnings of the case. For example the shots when Arnold and Jesse are arrested, during those scenes we see and hear from their lawyer Peter. From there we see views of their trial and views of the lawyer. Andrew Jarecki also keeps the issue of guilt and innocence darkened with the use of editing. As in the part of the film David talks about how his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe the play explores the concept of religion and how each cousin deals with the ideas and beliefs instilled in them through their Jewish background. • 14. Benefits Of A Sugar Tax Compare & Contrast Essay: Sugar Tax Just last year, Berkeley's and San Francisco's ballots included measure that would tax sugary drinks one or two cents per ounce because of their high sugar content. Berkley, less than thirty minutes away from San Francisco, became the first city in the United states to adopt the tax while San Francisco became the thirty–first city to oppose it (Knight). As the tax and its ideas gain popularity, more cities are including the measure for the tax in their elections. The issue is that America's obesity rates have skyrocketed over the past twenty years and have cost our country about $147 billion dollars in health expenses a year (Reinberg). One of the proposed ways to fix this problem is a sugar tax. It is a tax targeted at hydro processed overbought snacks with a high sugar content that have been proven to cause health risks. This would be similar to alcohol and tobacco. We can still buy these products but warning labels are placed on them and a tax is levied to offset the costs of what could happen to a person 's health after over consumption of these items. Proponents of this tax argue that sugar is one of the main causes of obesity to surge and a tax will be a useful deterrent when buying overly sugared items. Literary Themes and Symbols of the Holocaust Literary Themes and Symbols of the Holocaust Although Holocaust literature focuses on a specific period in world history, it also contains some common themes and symbols that help to define this era. The butterfly, for instance, is a symbol for the ephemeral lives of Holocaust children. A child, Pavel Friedman, wrote a poem titled "The Butterfly" during his time in a concentration camp. Since then, the butterfly has been a Holocaust theme for the large number of children who did not survive. A book,I Never Saw Another Butterfly, compiled by Inge Auerbacher, a Holocaust survivor at TerezГ n, features artwork, poems (including Friedman's poem), and words from many of the young children who died inside TerezГn's walls. Patricia Polacco'sThe Butterfly also connects to this symbol as a butterfly gets crushed in a fist, helping show young children the horrors that occurred during the Holocaust in ways that could easily be understood. The theme of voice is also prevalent in many works. Some literary pieces, likeThe Diary of a Young Girl, explore how the absence of a voice keeps families safe; others show the power of the voice as they speak out against the atrocities of the time. However, when his brother is asked about this instance, he denies it all and claims it never happened. These moments are then paired with other instances of ambiguity such as the montage of interviews where former students will speak upon an instance of sexual assault within the computer classes, only to then have another former student deny every claim previously made. This absence of a universal truth works to make viewers question whether or not the assault happened. This ambiguity is then accompanied by home videos of the family dealing with infighting, denial, and total frustration with the entire process: in effect humanizing the men. Bennett's address entitled "Drug Policy and the Intellectuals," Bennett maintains that the drug problem in America can be ultimately solved. In my opinion, the drug problem in America is one that cannot be completely resolved to the point where drug use no longer exists in America, but drug abuse can be alleviated. One effective way to do this would be to legalize the personal use of drugs that are more common and less potent (like marijuana), and to stop wasting time and tax dollars punishing minor offenders. Legalizing the use of soft drugs would help bolster the U.S. economy, partially because the government would have the ability to tax these drugs. This includes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A policy that focuses on imprisoning all drug users and dealers is the type of policy that is prone to hurt America economically. Drug prohibition may be a factor that is actually encouraging the spread of harder drugs. As government officials and police officers become more skilled in capturing drug smugglers and dealers, the pushers find more efficient ways to transport and conceal drugs, creating a larger supply and often making hard drugs more accessible and affordable to the common user. Although the government has succeeded in raising marijuana prices from $20 and ounce in the 1960's to $200 an ounce today, the price of cocaine has fallen from $50,000 a kilo in the 1970's to $10,000 a kilo today. Also, the potency and composition of these drugs is often unpredictable. If the government legalized these more minor drugs, as Milton Friedman pointed out in his essay "There's No Justice in the War on Drugs," they'd have the ability to regulate them and make them less dangerous than they would have been if they'd been sold on the street. Bennett's arguments against the legalization of drugs are somewhat one–sided. This may have been why I was more convinced by Friedman's essay, which relied more on concrete facts than on the pretense that the opposing argument was trivial. There are approximately 630 visual effects shots in the film that had to be shot individual shots in order to capture the proper theme of the storyline. Technical advancements were made in environments, lighting, and simulation of physical effects and integration of CG characters in a real environment. This movie was a true success through the use of well–known actors, and by using proper voice over acting throughout this film. Actors such as Tyrese Gibson (SGT Epps), Magan Fox (Mikaela Banes), and John Keller (John Turturro) just to name a few of the actors that made this movie a huge success. The reason acting played a significant role in the accomplishment of this movie was because they had to act without having the most significant actors being present, the Transformers themselves. All the acting conducted in this movie had to be conducted without the use of real robot actors and most by standing in front of blue screens. By the use of editing the theatrical scenes were superimposed into the background of the acting conducted. It took a team of editors and computer programmers in order to accomplish this mission. This leads us into our second topic for discussion, the type and style of directing along with how this movie was edited. The director of "Transformers", "Michael Bay", is a very hands on director. It was a time of war, with death tolls from politically motivated conflicts between 175 and 200 million worldwide. Over the course of the century, the nature of war blurred and then wrecked older distinctions between battlefield and city, soldier and civilian, peacetime and wartime. In this essay I will talk about how the role of the 20th century evolved and of how technologies and techniques helped in defining photography. I will also talk about the impacted of Robert Capa. • 32. Memory And Repression Analysis Memory used for testimony and convictions can be a very controversial way to incarcerate those who are being accused of a crime. For instance, some may believe that witness statements are reliable evidence able to prove someone's innocence or guiltiness. Despite this, witness statements may contain lies or hidden, yet essential, parts of the truth that had been purposefully forgotten, which is also known as repression. In addition, witnesses or victims who have experienced trauma will most likely experience amnesia as a result of facing an appalling act. Memories of witnesses or victims should not be used to convict people who are allegedly charged with a crime. Many interviewers tend to interfere with the victim's current memories by pressuring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such case depicts this scenario, which is the Friedmans case. In the documentary, Capturing the Friedmans, former computer students who had once attended Arnold's classes were interviewed about the situation. When asked whether they had recalled anything inappropriate going on in that class, some admitted while others denied. This just goes to show that using memories is inaccurate and repression are sometimes used to deny these accusations. However, even if these people were not using repression, they may be experiencing amnesia due to the traumatic occurrences of these horrendous events that happened during their childhood. Nonetheless, whether the former computer students did lie or truthfully forgot about it, these memories should still not be used to convict people wrongfully without hardcore evidence. To sum up, courts should not use memories of witnesses as a way to imprison those who are charged with a crime. This is because memories tend to be easily influenced and can also contain concealed lies within it. As a result, there is inaccurate information told in the witnesses' statements. Furthermore, interviewers include lots of bias in their questions, which eventually screws up the truth since the potential victims are put into too much pressure. Memories should not be used to convict people with a crime because it is an unreliable approach to claim someone guilty or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Essay on Defining Voluntarism 1. (652) In the reading of The Sources of Normativity, Christine Korsgaard discusses four basic theories for the justification of morality: Voluntarism, Realism, Reflective Endorsement, and the Appeal to Autonomy. For the purpose of this essay, I will be defining Voluntarism, outlining the argument that Korsgaard presents for Voluntarism, and explain her criticism for why it fails. First of all, let me start off by defining the meaning of Voluntarism. Voluntarism is the theory that God or the ultimate nature of reality is to be conceived as some form of will (or conation). This theory is contrasted to intellectualism, which gives primacy to God's reason. (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy) The will, as referred to in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christine Korsgaard's criticism for the reason why the theory of Voluntarism fails reflects upon the fact that the authority or divine power making the laws can make anything right or wrong. Korsgaard goes on to explain a situation in which you are a student in her department and are thereby required to take a particular course, in this case, a logic course in order to receive your degree. If you are in her department and she, having authority over you, requires you to take the course and you fail to do so, then you are at risk of not receiving your degree. On the other hand, if you are not a student in her department, she can give several reasons as to why the logic course is needed but you are not required to take the course and can hereby make a decision as to whether or not you wish to take the course, which Korsgaard goes on to explain, is why authority is needed in order to enforce the laws. You can take the course because you realize the importance, out of fear of not receiving your degree, or just for the simple fact that it is a required course. Even if the obligation was removed, the question lies among whether or not the moral agent will continue to perform the duty. It is Korsgaard's theory that a governing body is needed to enforce the obligation in order for the action to take place and that governing body is, in what she believes, our own self. We "command ourselves" to do what is morally right, good, and just. For example, prior to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The time that the product remains very competitive in the market is very short as compared to any other product from other industries. The product stays in the market competitively for less than a year if there is no improvement in technology (Gross, 2012). Facial Expressions A History on Universal Facial Expressions: The Works of Lamarck, Izard and Russell Kathleen Coyne–Boyles From the time of the ancient Greeks through to the modern age, understanding and interpreting man's emotions and body language have been a source of both fasicnation and a point of intellectual debate. The ancient philosophers, such as Aristotle, proposed the idea that the face takes on varying appearances which are characteristic of each of the passions (or emotions) of humankind. In this way, the son inherits this soft characteristic and the facial expression becomes a feature of soft inheritance. In Use and Disuse Theory, adaptation in a species occurs because complex force drives organisms further up a ladder of increasing complexity. Then, environmental force adapts organisms to their local environment. Adaptation evolves by using some characteristics more than others based upon differing environments. Those characteristics not used or needed as much drop off and those needed to suit a particular environment are passed on. In some ways, the so–called Ghost of Lamarck left its impressions upon Darwin and sparked a debate among evolutionary theorists as to whether characteristics like facial expressions are socially learned skills which can be inherited by the next generation or if they are universal and slowly evolving, purely biologically programmed responses to basic human survival. Universality of Facial Expressions Darwinian thought holds that facial expressions are universal in nature and evolved in man alongside his basic struggle for survival. These facial expressions developed in order to protect and keep the species alive. Eldewak 4 Reem Eldewak Justin Williams Freshman Composition 5 October 2015 As time progresses in our technologically propelled era and the internet continues to provide as the largest network source of information, our intellectual perception of information takes on a more distinctive and less analytical approach than before. The use of the internet has seized control over the vast connection of neural pathways in our minds, influencing our experiences and essentially hindering our natural ability to apply cognitive thinking. Although its intention was to nourish our minds with an instant unlimited source of valuable information, the internet has caused some people to lose their appreciation for long texts and their ability to concentrate. Within the essay, "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" by Nicholas Carr, the author feels that someone has been tinkering with his brain and that he can no longer enjoy reading a book of any length because he cannot sustain concentration on the book (Carr 1). This is a result of the fact that when people use the internet to find information, they habituate themselves to skim along the lines to quickly allocate their answers and once they have gotten what they needed, they close the browser without any further analysis of the information. According to his text, Carr asserts that he is not the only person who feels that his ability to concentrate has diminished. In the past few years the Taliban have made it very difficult for the UN and other aid agencies to deliver humanitarian relief in Afghanistan, so in the Medium term an invasion would improve matters. Even if the Taliban were judged to be equally guilty with Bin Laden, the Afghan people are not; the Taliban conquered the country with the help of Bin Laden and thousands of other foreign, mostly Arab, fighters, and their rule is heavily oppressive. The invasion of Afghanistan is still likely in the long run to lead to a prolonged power struggle or civil war between different ethnic groups or local warlords, as before 1996.
