Emperor Hirohito
(1901–1989)
Hirohito was the emperor of Japan from 1926 all the way until the died in 1989. During his time in power Japan attacked all of its neighbors,
became allies with Nazi Germany, and attacked Pearl Harbor. Hirohito went to schools for the children of nobility when he was younger. He wasn't
raised by his parents but by a retired vice–admiral and a imperial attendant. Hirohito survived assassination attempts and married Princess Nagako. He
had 7 children with her. Hirohito officially became emperor when his dad died in December of 1926. he chose the name Showa as his reign name

The military became more aggressive and was one of the causes for the attack on Pearl Harbor. Hirohito didn't really care to be in World War 2 but
also wanted to support Japan's involvement. There's still no evidence about his involvement with Japan and the war during this time. In September
1945, after the US dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Hirohito finally had enough and broke the silence and announced Japan's
surrender to the Allied Forces. Japan lost 2.3 million soldiers and an educated guess of 800,000 civilians during World War 2. Doug MacArthur was
sent to Japan to see its rehabilitation. Japan found itself occupied by the United States for years. The United States began introducing democratic
reforms to them. Many people wanted Hirohito to be tried as a war criminal, but General Douglas MacArthur bargained with him that included a new
Japanese constitution and denouncement of divinity. Hirohito then became a democratic figurehead. Hirohito remained an big figure in Japan until
his death. He was the head of state and played a big role in rebuilding Japan's image to the rest of the nations. Hirohito died of Cancer on January 7,
1989. His son Akihito took control of Japan after

Cutting costs and increasing efficiency was a major reason for Japan's major export industries to stay competitive. The automobile industry was able
to position itself globally by manufacturing economical vehicles. In 1979, Japan shifted its focus to the technological fields as they drifted away from
the industrial industries. Their focus was on developing computers, semiconductors, and technology industries. The Bubble Economy The bobble
economy refers to the time period of 1980 to 1993. During this time frame Japan saw the Yen rise to three times its value and corporate land rise to
180% of its value. As a result the Japanese government regulated the monetary policies system and raised interest rates. The Tokyo stock market
dropped 38% wiping out over two trillion in estimated value. In October 1993, the recession bottomed out and Japan rebounded slowly by switching
their focusing on technological innovations to regain strong market position behind the United States. Japan retained as the leader of the
semi–conductor and automobile industries. In 1995 the rise of the Yen forced Japan to shift production overseas to China, Tokyo, and Malaysia. Today

Japan's Power In The United States
Currently in the world there are 196 countries, each one with unique qualities and political structures. Japan is an island nation in East Asia that is
located in the Pacific Ocean. It has a total of 6, 852 islands that make up about ninety seven percent of Japan's land area. It is the world's tenth largest
population with 126 million people. The emperor ran the country until it was forced to surrender and the United States assisted in the reform of the
country. Currently, Japan is a democracy with a constitution that used the structure of the United States as a model. It uses the three–branch system,
however, one of its branches drastically outweighs the other two in regards to power. This developed nation has many aspects of it government... Show

A new constitution took affect in 1947; establishing a parliamentary system, with all adults eligible to vote and the emperor became mostly a
symbolic head of state (Infoplease). United States troops were stationed in Japan because of a security treaty that was signed between the two
countries in 1951 (Infoplease). However, in 1952, Japan regained full sovereignty and the Ryuku Islands, including Okinawa, were returned by the
United States (Infoplease). During this time, the Liberal Democratic Party was formed (BBC). This party will govern the country, almost
uninterruptedly, for the rest of the century and beyond (BBC). Also during this time, United States servicemen raped an Okinawa schoolgirl
causing mass protest demanding the removal of United States forces from the island (BBC). Japan had an extraordinary postwar economic
recovery and continued to grow through the 1970s and 1980s until it was the world's second largest economy (after the United States) (Infoplease).
Because of scandals involving leaders of industry, government officials and bankers, Japan suffered in the Asian economic crisis in 1998,
(Infoplease). In 2009, the Democratic Party of Japan won the general election and ended the unbroken rule of the Liberal Democratic Party (BBC).
Also, in 2009, it faced the worst economic crisis since World War II because its economy shrank by 3.3% (BBC). However, it started to grow in 2010

Historical Significance Of Japanese History
History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history
was first recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930's and 40's, Japan became more prominent in the global stage due to its
participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since
the 1950's, Japan has been recognized as one of the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that Japan is an island has
historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the country to withstand conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated in
various imperialistic conflicts in certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji, Nachi Falls,
Sagano Bamboo Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both historical significance and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest
volcanoes in Japan (UNESCO, 2013). Life evolves around the dormant volcano, as its large presence has become an icon and artistic muse for
everyday life in Japan (Smithsonian Institution, 2013). Nachi Falls is an orange, Buddhist and Shinto shrine. It is accompanied by a 133 meter
waterfall that has contributed to religious development in the area for the past centuries (Japan–guid.com, 2016). Lastly, Aogashima is an active
volcanic island made up of a volcano

The Battle Of The Imperial System
Minae Mizumura argue in "Who Wants to Marry an Emperor" that being married to an emperor is a fool's errand; women are the ideal candidates
of an noble emperor. Despite her trivial attacks on male emperors, men are undoubtedly far superior in ruling justified by their extension back to
antiquity rulers, capability, and traditional essence. The imperial system has extended across thousands of years of Japanese history; it's pitiful to
say that it'll come to a closing fairly soon. The imperial system demands a male to be the successor of the emperor, which is the responsibility of
the empress to supply. When newborns that are produced aren't male, the imperial system draws closer to impairment. As degrading as it may
sound, a women's entirety is reduced to a "womb". Why would you want to marry into a life so demeaning? Why are male constituted as the sole
heir of the throne of an emperor? What happens when imperialism is gone? Mizumura; a Japanese Novelist, argues that no sane woman would
marry an emperor, and that times have changed, women can easily dictate the role of an emperor. Mizumura is a fan of the imperial system; she
wants to see Japan flourish as a part of imperialism. Nonetheless, she doesn't agree with how women are handled when being affiliated with the future
emperors. Noteworthy women are being reduced to a body for fertility, which is wrong on all occasions. Mizumura also disagrees with male being the
sole heirs. Male successors acquiring the throne after an

Though the king or queen may be regarded as the government's symbolic head, it is the Prime Minister, who actually governs the country. Japan
has a royal family led by an Emperor, Akihito (born December 23, 1933) is the current and 125th Emperor of Japan, but under the current
constitution he holds no power at all, not even emergency reserve powers. Sovereignty, which was previously embodied in the Emperor, is now the
domain of the people. The Emperor is defined as the symbol of the state. Japan has a parliamentary government, which consists of three branches: the
executive branch, the legislative branch and the judicial branch. This system is comparable to that in the United Kingdom. b. Is there a dictatorship
or other form of the government which means that the government will be closely involved in your efforts? The first Imperial Diet was established
in 1890 and made Japan the first country in Asia, which was ruled by parliamentary politics. The Diet was the legislative organ of the state and had
the highest power, for example initiating constitutional revisions or designating a prime minister. The upper house of the Imperial Diet consisted of
the privileged class, for example the peerage, monarchs and the sovereignty ruled by the emperor. Today the emperor does not have any effective
power but is only the symbol of the state. In 1946, during the occupation by the Allied powers the present

Tokyo Tokyo is the capital of Japan with one of the most greatest population in the world. Tokyo today is considered a megacity. However, Tokyo
didn't start out as such a massive city. Back in 1639, Tokyo was known as the city of Edo. The city of Edo was a humble fishing village, which grew
into a city with a population with more than a million people by the mid eighteenth century. Edo was one of the largest cities in the world at that
time. As Edo grew and grew, it became the capital of Japan and later was renamed to Tokyo. The reason of Tokyo becoming the capital of Japan are
due to a combination of political, economical, and cultural factors. Japan's has a unique geography from its banana–shaped arc of islands. Japan has

Tokyo started from a small fishing village to one of the greatest and largest cities of the world today and throughout their history, the Japanese have
respected nature. Japan is home to a variety of animals such as bears, wild boar, foxes, deer, antelope, hares, monkeys, and raccoon dogs. One of the
animals that is an important figures in Japanese mythology and folktales is the Japanese macaque. Japanese macaques are large, shaggy–haired
monkeys with pink faces and short furry tails. The national bird of Japan is Tancho or red–crowned crane and the national flower is a chrysanthemum.
Another Japanese symbol is their very own flag that is a rectangle with a large red circle in the center, which represents the sun. Japan is known as the
Land of the Rising Sun. Throughout ancient Japanese history Samurai carried the symbol of the Rising Sun in the twelfth century during the feud
between the Taira and Minamoto clans. Another part of Japanese prideful culture is its very own anthem, the "Kimigayo." The "Kimigayo" is one of
the world's oldest anthems that come from a tanka that was written in the tenth century. There are also many ancient traditions in Japan like:

Japan was among the countries that recognized Bangladesh soon after the independence and established diplomatic relations on 10 February 1972.
Early that year both countries opened Embassies in each other's capital. The first ever highest level visit from Bangladesh was undertaken by
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973, as the Prime Minister of a free and independent Bangladesh. Since then our two countries' relations
have developed steadily and satisfactorily and never looked back. Bangladesh and Japan have shared views on many key international issues and
closely worked for promoting global peace and stability. Both our countries have important contributions in the UN peace keeping operations.
Bangladesh supports Japan's permanent membership in UN Security Council and appreciates its role as an observer of SAARC that anchors it to the
region as a bona fide partner. The relations with Japan are of priority for us and both countries are already engaged to exploit the high potentials for
further deepening and widening cooperation. Japan Bangladesh Parliamentary League actively promotes mutual friendship between the two countries.

Hirohito became emperor when his father died in 1926. The emperor was regarded as divine by many Japanese. In reality he had little power, with
civilian and increasingly military officials deciding national policy. He reluctantly supported the invasion of Manchuria and the war against China,
and attempted to encourage cooperation with Britain and the USA. However, he had no choice but to approve the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
that led to war between Japan and the United States in December 1941. Despite his lack of enthusiasm over the decision to go to war, he was
pleased with the Japanese military and naval successes that followed. He frequently appeared in military uniform to raise morale. By the spring of
1945, the defeat of Japan seemed imminent. The Japanese government was deeply divided between military leaders who favoured continuing the war
and civilians who wanted to negotiate for peace. Hirohito appears to have favoured peace. Following the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki, Hirohito insisted that Japan surrender. On 15 August 1945, he made a radio broadcast announcing the end of the war– this was the first time
the people of Japan had heard the voice of their emperor. Some Allied leaders wanted to try Hirohito as a war criminal. General Douglas MacArthur,
who was in charge of the United States' occupying forces in Japan, felt it would be easier to introduce democratic reforms if Hirohito

The Political Structure Of The Japanese Political System...
Unlike the American political system, which has the same political system as it did when the country was created, the Japanese political system is a
more recent construct that was created as a result of millennia of imperial rule that slowly morphed into the constitutional monarchy that it is today.
Throughout this process of shifting their political structure there has been heavy influence from the west, especially America and England to create a
more democratic way of governing their nation. Although the Japanese government is similar to the US government, the imperial roots create a
different governmental structure that creates different displays of power. It is said in The Nihon Shoki, one of the oldest books of Japanese history,
that Japan was founded by Emperor Jimmu in 660 BC. The Japanese Emperor was the sovereign ruler of the country until the Emperor's rule began to
end in the mid 12th century. The Japanese government shifted from imperial rule to shogunate rule after the Genpei War of 1180
–1185. Shoguns were
Japanese military rulers who would be appointed by the Emperor, but would hold all the power. It was around this time as well that the Japanese began
to mingle with Europeans and begin to trade with the Portuguese and the Dutch. This spiked the economy because of Japan's abundance of precious
metals and began to peak the Japanese's interest in western culture. Shogunate rule ended after the Meiji Restoration of 1868, when imperial rule
returned to Japan.

HiroHito was the Emperor of Japan from 1926 to 1989. Also the longest reigning Emperor in Japanese history. He was a controversial figure that
surrendered Japan to the Allied Forces in 1945. HiroHito was born on April 29, 1901 in Tokyo, Japan as the Eldest son of Crown Prince Yoshihito. Yet,
he was not raised by his parents. Rather, he spent his early years raised by a retired vice–admiral and then an imperial attendant. Between ages 7 and 19,
HiroHito attended schools designed for nobility. He attended Gakushuin School (also known as Peers' School). He was instructed in military and

However, the economy failing, militarism rising and many political assassinations caused a crisis for the pro–democracy movement.
HiroHito, who was the highest spiritual authority and commander–in–chief of the armed forces, fired the prime minister in 1929. The two prime
ministers to follow were both assassinated. One was shot and mortally wounded, and the one to follow was murdered by naval officers who had
quarrels with a treaty limiting the number of Japanese warships. After that, all prime ministers were pulled from the military rather than form political
parties, which disbanded altogether in 1940. Around the same time, Japan and China's conflict were growing. In 1931, a railway explosion caused by
Japaneses army officers was blamed on Chinese bandits. They then used the event to take over Manchuria in northeastern China. And set up a puppet
state there. Following this incident were numerous Excursions and by 1937, war had broken out. During that winter, the Japanese army murdered
about 200,000 civilians and Prisoners of War in the area surrounding and within Nanking. HiroHito did not condone the more unpleasant parts of this
invasion, but he failed to punish those responsible. HiroHito also allowed the use of chemical warfare and the uprooting of

Japanese Government Vs Canadian Government Essay
From monarchy to communism, passing by dictatorship, each country has a government of its own. In the world, there are about 200 countries in total,
meaning that there are some similarities and differences in their specific government. If one was to pick out two different countries and compare its
types of leadership, one might get a different result than other. Ever heard this quote by Tom Robbins, "Our similarities bring us to a common ground;
our differences allow us to be fascinated by each other?" Well, nothing could be of more truth then that quote when comparing two different countries.

Jap A Very Interesting Place, It Is The Same Size Of The...
Japan is a very interesting place, it is the same size of the state California and the lifestyle can be divided into three types: farm land type, fishing
village type, and urban types. When learning about the political area I have learned that in the United States we have a President and Secretaries
of the state, but in Japan they have Emperor's (chief of state), Prime Ministers, and Deputy Prime Ministers. The chef of state is named Emperor
Akihito and the head of government is Prime Minister Shinzo ABE; Deputy Prime Minister Taro ASO. (CIA, 2016) The prime minister is the
leader of the largest political party and appoints various ministries to make up his cabinet. Political power is supposed to be shared between national
government and regional governments. However, most of the time the national government is unwilling or unable to fix urgent or local matters.
According to Funabashi, "The country's population has been declining since 2008 at 128 million people to 2016 at 127 million people. The prime
minister has set the first numerical target to stabilize the population at 100 million over the next 50 years, breaking a postwar political taboo".

Japan 's Influence On Japan
Japan is an island located in East Asia with its capital being located in Tokyo. The islands of Japan are very mountainous which makes them
incapable of producing their own natural resources (Central Intelligence Agency). Japan uses a parliamentary government with a civil law legal
system (Central Intelligence Agency). Its economy has gone from being viewed as an economic superpower, to going into a deep recession, to
back on the rise of economic growth. Gross Domestic Product in 2013 was at 4.729 trillion growing at a rate of 2% (Central Intelligence Agency).
Cultural Complications Japanese is the official language in Japan although the majority of the Japanese population can speak some English due to
their high level of education. Japan's etiquette compared to the United States dramatically differs in some areas. In general, it is not acceptable to be
on the phone in public places such as the train. When greeting, it is not okay to touch each other, so handshakes and hugs are highly not
recommended. While dining, it is offensive to eat all of the food on your plate as well as tipping the server. These things are accepted in the United
States, but not in Japan. Business etiquette does not vary as much. Professional dress is required although both countries are moving towards more
casual on just day to day office hours. When it comes to clothing and products, they often prefer high end products over cheaper made clothes and
products. When doing business with one another

Hirohito's Japanese Surrender Essay
Hirohito and The Japanese Surrender
The world was hectic in the 20th century. The first plane was flown, World War I took place (1914

(1917), penicillin was discovered (1928), the U.S. stock market crashed (1929), and the DNA's structure was discovered (. However, on the eastern
side of the world, the most notable occurrences were probably Hitler's rise as chancellor and his launching of the Kristallnacht, the German invasion of
Poland, Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor, and the Holocaust. Further east, specifically Japan, its 124th Emperor had just inherited his father's place,

When Hirohito was twenty years old, he was the first Japanese Prince to travel to Europe. Years later, as an adult, he became Japan's 124th Emperor,
succeeding his father, Emperor Taisho, who died in 1926. His involvement in Japan's development during his nineteen years of reign was enormous. He
invaded Manchuria, to Japan's benefit (1931), supported the war against China (1937–1945), and during World War II, formed alliances with Nazi
Germany and Fascist Italy, forming the Rome–Berlin–Tokyo Axis. Emperor Hirohito was a man of kind emotions, of good intentions, and whose
interest was always in the benefits of his people. Having agreed to join the terrorizing war, Japan suffered a great deal. Its economy shattered the
country's wealth dropped drastically, its citizens were losing hope and confidence, and its military department was in a tough position and was
starting to weaken helplessly. Hirohito decided that the paramount decision he could possibly take was to surrender Japan. He could no longer bear
to see his people suffer and fight in the war, and thus showed he cared about them by ending their side of the war. As Hirohito spoke about the war
and its effect on his people, he said: "I made efforts to swallow tears and to protect the species of the Japanese nation". He cared deeply about the pain
his people were going through, and made it his foremost priority to end it. When Hirohito began to

Emperor Jimmu
Emperor Jimmu, the first Emperor of Japan, officially formed Japan in 660 Before Common Era (BCE.) Throughout Japan's 2600 years of history,
there have been many wars and conflicts fought across Japan and the Pacific region. Through the ages, Japan has always had an Emperor at the head of
its government, although this role has changed through time. Japan saw many economic changes, the biggest of which occurred after World War II
(WWII). With Japan's history, woven in war throughout the Pacific has become a model of strong political standing and near immeasurable economic
growth. Japanese chronicles record Jimmu's expedition heading eastward from Hyuga in 607 BCE, continuing along Japan's inland sea, subduing tribes
as he went, and ending in Yamato, where he centered his power (Jimmu LegendaryEmperor of Japan, 2016.) Emperor Jimmu, formally Jimmu Tenno,
is said to be a descendent of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. The current Emperor of Japan, His Royal Majesty (HIM) Akihito, is a direct descendent of
over 50 generations of Jimmu's bloodline. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IJA started with a limited number of trained troops; conscripts filled the gaps between Officers and Soldiers. Conscription is the enrollment of
persons, especially for military service, which was similar to the Draft in the United States (Definition of Conscription, 2016). In 1872 CE, the first
law concerning conscription in Japan was enacted, though the idea dates back to as early as 645CE. While feudalism was being developed and
created, there was a rapid decline of the semi–independent peasantry, and finally the complete subjugation of peasants to the Daimyo and Samurai
classes (Norman, 1977.) This subjugation led to peasants taking up arms for their Daimyo. A peasant with a pitchfork, sword, or ax couldn't defeat a
single Samurai one on one however, hundreds were joining these

The Australia-Japan Partnership
The Australia–Japan partnership is one of Australia's strongest and most mature international trade relationships. The success and strength of the
partnership can be attributed to the commonly held values of both countries, including a commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law,
along with similar approaches to international security. Japan forms Australia's second–largest export market and third–largest source of foreign
investment. Australia is a critical supplier to Japan of clean and safe food products as well as minerals and energy. Trade relations between the two
nations were recently given legal recognition and force with the ratification of the Japan Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (Department of
Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2014). 1. Population and demographics Japan has a significantly higher population density in comparison to Australia.
Japan's population is an estimated 126.66 million people. The population is estimated to be 126.66 million people, which decreased at about 0.89%
from the last record of population (World Population Statistics, 2013). The majority of Japan's population is comprised of the Yamoto Japanese
ethnicity. They make up approximately 98.5% of the population, followed by people of Korean ethnicity, and with some representation from the
Chinese and Japanese Indigenous peoples. Japanese is the official spoken language of the country, with 99% of the population conversant in Japanese.

The Meiji Republic
The nation of Japan lies in the North Pacific Ocean, East of the Korean Peninsula and China. Slightly smaller than the U.S. state of California, it has a
total area (land and water) of 377,915 square miles and is divided into four primary islands: Hokkaido, Kyushu, Honshu, and Shikoku. Japan is divided
into 47 administrative divisions called prefectures. Japan was "founded" in 660 B.C. when Emperor Jimmu declared Japan as a sovereign Imperial
nation. Until the Meiji Restoration in 1890, Japan operated under the Shogunate rule, which involved the rule of a hereditary dictator. The Meiji
Constitution provided a constitutional monarchy instead of pure Imperial dictatorship. The Modern State of Japan began on May 3, 1947, which

The Effect of John Keats' Health on His Work Essay
The Effect of John Keats' Health on His Work
In his elegy for the poet John Keats, Adonais, his friend and fellow
poet Percy Bysshe Shelley writes: "With me / Died Adonais; till the Future dares
/ Forget the Past, his fate and fame shall be / An echo and a light unto
eternity" (6–9). Shelley speaks of the eternal nature of Keats' poetry, which,
although written at a specific time in literary history, addresses timeless
issues such as life, death, love, sorrow, and poetic expression. Keats lived
only twenty–six years, but his poetry reflects a mind concerned with his own
place in the present and the future; he seemed to want most desperately to
belong to the world as a poet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She returned when she was dying of tuberculosis,
and she (and her brother) did die of that disease in 1809 (Keats). Keats was,
therefore, a solitary child who grew very protective of his siblings. This
protectiveness of others is clear in his poetry as he tries to make sense of
death, grief, and suffering.
Keats' sense that his role as a writer was to ease the suffering of
others is nowhere clearer than in "Ode to a Nightingale," written in 1819. In
this poem he speaks to the lonely songbird, the nightingale, and says he envies
her ability to sing so beautifully. The nightingale sings because she is not a
part of the world of human suffering. As one critic writes, "the 'viewless'
(invisible) wings of Poesy transport the poet to the imagined world of the
nightingale while shutting out the 'view' of the world's fever and fret"
(Clark). Keats says he hopes that through the nightingale's song his own
humanity will fade, and he will forget his own troubles. He hopes to "fade away
into the forest dim: / Fade far away, dissolve, and quite forget / . . . The
weariness, the fever, and the fret / Here, where men sit and hear each other
groan; / Where palsy shakes a few, sad, last grey hairs, / . .

Synthesis Essay – General Douglas MacArthur

GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR
Often times when people talk about General Douglas MacArthur, they tend to think of a great military leader of the World War Two (WWII) or the
Korean War. General MacArthur once said, "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion
to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent." General
Douglas MacArthur, also known as Mac, was a Visionary Leader that not only shaped the outcome of the Korean War but Japan as well. However,
he was not the most Ethical Leader to serve in the United States Military, which led to him being relieved of duty by President Truman in 1951. In
this paper we will review not just how he was a visionary but at times unethical and how I relate those leadership traits to my own.
VISIONARY LEADERSHIP
General MacArthur was truly a visionary leader. He had the ability to see what needed to be done and set plans for accomplishing it. One week after
the start of the Korean War General MacArthur had his Chief of Staff start considering an amphibious assault to take out communication in Seoul
("Concepts:," n.d.). Before Mac was able to get approval and conduct his operation he had to overcome strong objections to his desired incursion site

Essay on American Post-War Occupation of Japan
American Post–War Occupation of Japan
The intent of the United States' occupation of Japan was to neutralize the threat of another war, to nourish the Japanese economy back to health, and to
provide a stable democratic government for the defeated nation. With General Douglas MacArthur acting as the supreme commander in charge of the
occupation, Japan changed drastically. Special attention was paid to the areas of military, economy, and government. The effects of the United States'
occupation of Japan were profound almost beyond reckoning, and have had enormous impacts on modern Japanese society as well as on almost every
other society in the modern world and throughout the course of history.

And if it was right in 1946 and wrong in 1953, why doesn't the United States admit for once that it made a mistake? And I'm going to say something
that I think perhaps ought to be done more by people in public life. I'm going to admit right here that the United States did make a mistake in 1946.
We made a mistake because we misjudged the intention of the Soviet leaders." (Walt 168)
Although the United States did well in eliminating any future threats from Japan, it was realized later on that Japan was left in the midst of a violent
wave of communism with no means of defense but for the United States which did not wish for a direct war on the Soviets, who backed all communist
countries.
After disarmament was complete, MacArthur's next task was to see that Japan adopted a new, and democratic, constitution. When the Japanese
government proved too confused or too reluctant to write a constitutional reform that satisfied MacArthur, he had his own staff draft a new constitution
in February of 1946. This, with only minor changes made to please the conservative groups in Japan, was then adopted by the Japanese government in
the form of an imperial amendment to the 1889 constitution. Japan's new democracy went into effect on May 3, 1947. The new constitution was a
perfection of the British parliamentary form of government that the Japanese had been moving toward in the 1920's. Supreme political power was

Although it was not likely for a child to successfully complete their education while missing out on important parts of their schooling, Masako did the
impossible by achieving a great amount in her academic career (Hills 47). In brief, Masako's childhood contributed to the development of her
adaptability to her environment.
Next, Masako Owada showed determination in not only her school work, but also in her efforts towards achieving her dream job: a diplomat in
the Foreign Ministry. Within the Japanese culture, women are considered to be a group of cheap, expendable, and unskilled workers until they are
married; then they no longer have a job (Hills 113). Keeping this in mind, Masako knew that she needed to overcome the gender inequality in order
to reach her goal, and no person or lack of education neither got in her way nor discouraged her. She graduated from Harvard University and from
the University of Tokyo to fill in the gaps of her education for the Foreign Ministry entrance exam (Hills 109 and 115). In addition, Hills puts into
perspective how competitive and how male–dominated the Foreign Ministry entrance exam was by stating that "...of 800 people nationwide who sat
for the exam, only 28 passed. And of those 28, only three were women" (Hills 115). Despite all odds, Masako passed this entrance exam, which in turn,

Ethnocentrism And Ethnocentrism In Japan
Ethnocentrism: Ethnic Homogeneity In many ways, Japan has been looked upon as a strangely homogeneous society for much of its modern history.
And for some, it stands as one of the most homogeneous nation in the world. However, when looking at Japan as a whole, and considering whether or
not it homogeneity is a problem, or just another cultural phenomenon, one must look towards the root cause of homogeneism in Japan. In Japan's past,
it has has been questioned, as well as assumed, that the growth of Japans homogeneous viewpoint was put forward by the government of Japan, and
was done so by circulating false accusations of its lineage. Which these false stories of lineage, Japan has grown in its ethnocentric views and ways.

One example of this happened back in the 1970's and 1980's when Japan only accepted a small number of refugee's from Vietnam and other
nations in the southern parts of Asia. Yet at the same time Japan was bringing in labor for Korea and China before and during World War II. Like
stated before, once Japan felt itself become a weaker force in the world, and its own view of itself suffered, ethnocentrism strived. Things started to
change. Japan let in less cheep labor and less refugees as a way to preserve its pureness. Another argument made by Japan when asked why they had
refused to bring in refugees at this time is very much the same argument made by Japan's establishment today. The reason Japan accepts so little
refugees and the like is that the "mono–ethnic Japanese society has no tradition of accepting outsiders." However, as stated previously, the case
before World War II showed the opposite. To put things into todays perspective, over the last few years, Japan has accepted about 2,560 refugees
from around the world, while the United Kingdom has accepted 117,161 refugees as of 2015. Keeping in mind that the UK measures slightly less in
square meters than Japan, so the reason cannot be made that there is 'no room.' Whether or not Japan is accepting refugees from outside of Japan

Imapct of History on Japanese Culture Essay
Introduction Japanese culture is very unique. It is a culture that has stirred many outsiders curiosity throughout history because of a level of mystery
that surrounds it. It is a culture that many admire. The reasons behind the mystery and uniqueness of Japanese culture to outsiders is due in part to the
unique history that have made it what it is today. Because Japan is a chain of islands its culture has developed in an atmosphere of isolation and
control to a certain extent. Over the history of Japan, layers of cultural development can be seen where outside influences were either adapted or
shielded from the culture. There are three very influential layers created by the Age of Reform (AD 552–710), the Meiji Period (1868–1912), and ...

Buddhism and Shintoism developed and exist together peacefully throughout most of Japan's history. (National Geographic Society, 2010) During the
Age of Reform Emperor Temmu set the precedent for future Japanese emperors by setting himself up as the "Heavenly Emperor." In doing this, he
linked the position of emperor to having a higher power. Emperor Temmu set the foundation for what is known as the classical age of Japan which
includes the Nara and Heian Periods.
Nara Period With the Nara Period (AD 710–794) came a permanently located capital city, carefully organized into a grid of streets. This new capital
created a stability in which culture could flourish. The first known collection of Japanese poems, Manyoshu, or Ten Thousand Leaves was created.
Buddhism became the focal religion and many shrines were built. During the Nara period the aesthetic seen clearly in modern Japanese culture started
to develop, stemming from the Buddhist idea of 'sensitivity to things'. (National Geographic Society, 2010)
Heian Period The Heian Period (AD 794–1185) is known for the development of the Samurai warrior culture. Prince Genji, known as the "Shining

the Yayoi period (300 BC), which, according to Columbia University's Dr. Heinrich (2009), featured a more advanced agricultural society. Virtual
Museum of Japanese Arts (2016) continues to describe the Kofu period (300–710 AD), during which ancestors of the current Japanese imperial family
founded Japan's first unified state under the Yamato Court, and Buddhism was introduced in 552 AD. Japan's first capital was established in Nara
during the Nara Period (710–794 AD), and moved to Kyoto during the Heian Period (794–1185 AD) when noble families started ruling in the emperor's
name. During this period, Japan's then Chinese–dominated culture was replaced by an indigenous one (Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts, 2016)
described as a "great flowering of classical Japanese culture" (Heinrich, 2009, para. 6) The Kamakura Period (1185–1333 AD) saw the imperial court
overthrown by the the Minamoto family, who started the Kamakura Shogunate era of rule that resulted in a "vigorous, realistic" artistic style
representative of the "warrior spirit" (Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts, 2016, para. 5). The following Muromachi Period (1333–1568) was a "period of
'warring states'" during which

Examples Of Happiness In Fahrenheit 451
The definition of happiness has constantly been debated on by philosophers and scholars for over nine centuries, but will this debate be forced by
majorities to stop soon? In the story, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, in which citizens like Guy Montag live in a corrupted society where happiness
and delectation is dictated by the government. Captain Beatty, the captain of the firefighters that peregrinate the community, and find books to burn.

The term is so broad and and vast that no one can really understand the true meaning of happiness. His views of happiness are obviously wrong but
still shown in society today because of: the never ending pressure of entering a prestigious university, caused by government rule, ultimately ending in
everyone's different views of happiness. As a society of negativity, antagonism, and dubiousness sometimes everyone is in need of happiness. However,
if society turns into the world of Fahrenheit 451, the impending extinction of happiness will be caused by happiness

Essay on Minamata Patients’ Life and Minamata Compensation
Minamata disease was discovered on May 1st 1956. There were 12,617 people who were recognized as patients. However, these numbers were only
patients with the certificate. People had to apply for the certificate certifying that they got impacts from Minatama and got the disease. However, it was
not easy to get the certificate as many people had to apply many times to get the Certification. Another issue was related to the discrimination to the
Minamata patients should handle. People would disparage people with the Certification. Hence, the Minamata patients chose to hide their status, even
from their families and relatives.
In 1969, the 1st Minamata Lawsuit was filled to clarify the Chisso's responsibility for what happened in Minamata. ... Show more content on

The purpose of the museum is to collect and preserve valuable materials related to the Minamata disease so it won't fade away in the future. The
visitors can go to the galleries and hear stories from Kataribe (Storytellers). There are 13 Kataribe (storytellers) so far. By sharing their stories and
experiences, they hope that people will understand Minamata deeply. In 27th October 2013, the Emperor of Japan, Akihito, together with his wife gave
a visit to the Minamata Disease Municipal Museum. They got a chance to talk with Kataribe and heard stories from them. The Emperor, Akihito, hopes
that people will end discrimination to the victims.
Comments
Minamata disease is a very bad disease as it gives bad impacts to the human bodies. People barely can walk, hands become crippled, etc. The
Minamata patients also have to spend their life going to hospitals as no cure for this disease. Furthermore, the application to get the Certification is too
difficult. The government should make it easier as the patients already suffered from the disease. The Japan State also needs to conduct the
comprehensive health survey. The survey is quite important. No official survey was conducted until now. People still don't know how widely harm
extended and how many people were affected. However, I would like to say that Japan was quite successful in handling this situation in terms of the
compensation. Both Chisso

Essay on The Success of Andrew Lloyd Webber
The Success of Andrew Lloyd Webber
Musical theater is a very difficult profession in which to make a living. Most composers of musicals only create one good musical and are unable to
create any more. Not Andrew Lloyd Webber! He is not like any of those composers. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a successful composer due to his variety
of appeal to diverse audiences. Andrew Lloyd Webberis an English composer who used rock–based compositions to revitalize British and American
musical theater in the late 20th century. Lloyd Webber has had many great hits during his career. He has won numerous awards for his works. Due to

"It was great to get that," says Lloyd Webber, "there were about 30 shows that opened around the same time that The Beautiful Game opened". In
1997, Lloyd Webber won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for "Best Original Song", "You Must Love Me", from Evita. He has also won a
total of six Grammy's, five Laurence Oliver awards, four Tony's, four Drama Desk Awards, and since he is only the second composer ever to have
three different shows running in two countries, he received the American Society of Composers, Authors, & Publishers' Triple Play Award for
Creative Achievement by Bnoi B'rith in New York. These numerous awards are one reason why Andrew Lloyd Webber is a great composer.
Lloyd Webber has been asked by countless famous professional artists and groups as well as organizations to compose songs for them. Menet's
Jellicle Haven states that over 150 artists have performed Lloyd Webber's song, "Memory", from Cats. Menet goes on to say that a few of those
entertainers that performed "Memory" include Barbara Streisand, Johnny Mathis, and Judy Collins, to The Boston Pops and Liberace. Barry Manilow
actually placed the song in the top 40 in the United States. A techno/dance version topped the European charts when Natalie Grant, a European singer,
sang it last year. Evita was another big success of Lloyd Webber in which had many big names stared in. Madonna portrayed Evita Peron, and

The military became more aggressive and was one of the causes for the attack on Pearl Harbor. Hirohito didn't really care to be in World War 2 but also wanted to support Japan's involvement. There's still no evidence about his involvement with Japan and the war during this time. In September 1945, after the US dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Hirohito finally had enough and broke the silence and announced Japan's surrender to the Allied Forces. Japan lost 2.3 million soldiers and an educated guess of 800,000 civilians during World War 2. Doug MacArthur was sent to Japan to see its rehabilitation. Japan found itself occupied by the United States for years. The United States began introducing democratic reforms to them. Many people wanted Hirohito to be tried as a war criminal, but General Douglas MacArthur bargained with him that included a new Japanese constitution and denouncement of divinity. Hirohito then became a democratic figurehead. Hirohito remained an big figure in Japan until his death. • 4. Historical Significance Of Japanese History History: Prehistoric Japan dates back to circa 10,000 BCE where the roots of fishing and pottery making began; however, official Japanese history was first recorded in 1st century BCE (Japan, 2016). In the 1930's and 40's, Japan became more prominent in the global stage due to its participation in the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941) and the U.S. coordinated Hiroshima bombings (1945) during the World Wars (Japan, 2016). Since the 1950's, Japan has been recognized as one of the strongest economies in the developing and globalizing world. The fact that Japan is an island has historically made it difficult to invade and has allowed the country to withstand conflict between other countries. This has been demonstrated in various imperialistic conflicts in certain parts of Asia. Places of Interest There are many notable places in Japan such as Mt. Fuji, Nachi Falls, Sagano Bamboo Forest, and Aogashima (Ma, 2015). These places have both historical significance and natural beauty. Mt. Fuji is one of the tallest volcanoes in Japan (UNESCO, 2013). Life evolves around the dormant volcano, as its large presence has become an icon and artistic muse for everyday life in Japan (Smithsonian Institution, 2013). Nachi Falls is an orange, Buddhist and Shinto shrine. Despite her trivial attacks on male emperors, men are undoubtedly far superior in ruling justified by their extension back to antiquity rulers, capability, and traditional essence. The imperial system has extended across thousands of years of Japanese history; it's pitiful to say that it'll come to a closing fairly soon. The imperial system demands a male to be the successor of the emperor, which is the responsibility of the empress to supply. When newborns that are produced aren't male, the imperial system draws closer to impairment. As degrading as it may sound, a women's entirety is reduced to a "womb". Why would you want to marry into a life so demeaning? Why are male constituted as the sole heir of the throne of an emperor? What happens when imperialism is gone? Mizumura; a Japanese Novelist, argues that no sane woman would marry an emperor, and that times have changed, women can easily dictate the role of an emperor. Mizumura is a fan of the imperial system; she wants to see Japan flourish as a part of imperialism. Nonetheless, she doesn't agree with how women are handled when being affiliated with the future emperors. Noteworthy women are being reduced to a body for fertility, which is wrong on all occasions. Although his popularity declined near the end of his sixty–year reign, Selassie remains a key figure in turning Ethiopia into a modern civilization." In 1931 Selassie began to develop a written constitution (a system of basic laws of a country) to symbolize his interest in modernization and intention to increase the power of the African government, Haile Selassie's efforts were cut short, however, when Benito Mussolini's Italian army invaded the country in 1935. Hirohito became emperor when his father died in 1926. The emperor was regarded as divine by many Japanese. In reality he had little power, with civilian and increasingly military officials deciding national policy. He reluctantly supported the invasion of Manchuria and the war against China, and attempted to encourage cooperation with Britain and the USA. However, he had no choice but to approve the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that led to war between Japan and the United States in December 1941. Despite his lack of enthusiasm over the decision to go to war, he was pleased with the Japanese military and naval successes that followed. He frequently appeared in military uniform to raise morale. By the spring of 1945, the defeat of Japan seemed imminent. The Japanese government was deeply divided between military leaders who favoured continuing the war and civilians who wanted to negotiate for peace. Hirohito appears to have favoured peace. Following the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Hirohito insisted that Japan surrender. On 15 August 1945, he made a radio broadcast announcing the end of the war– this was the first time the people of Japan had heard the voice of their emperor. • 10. The Political Structure Of The Japanese Political System... Unlike the American political system, which has the same political system as it did when the country was created, the Japanese political system is a more recent construct that was created as a result of millennia of imperial rule that slowly morphed into the constitutional monarchy that it is today. Throughout this process of shifting their political structure there has been heavy influence from the west, especially America and England to create a more democratic way of governing their nation. Although the Japanese government is similar to the US government, the imperial roots create a different governmental structure that creates different displays of power. It is said in The Nihon Shoki, one of the oldest books of Japanese history, that Japan was founded by Emperor Jimmu in 660 BC. The Japanese Emperor was the sovereign ruler of the country until the Emperor's rule began to end in the mid 12th century. The Japanese government shifted from imperial rule to shogunate rule after the Genpei War of 1180 –1185. Shoguns were Japanese military rulers who would be appointed by the Emperor, but would hold all the power. It was around this time as well that the Japanese began to mingle with Europeans and begin to trade with the Portuguese and the Dutch. This spiked the economy because of Japan's abundance of precious metals and began to peak the Japanese's interest in western culture. Shogunate rule ended after the Meiji Restoration of 1868, when imperial rule returned to Japan. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effects of the United States' occupation of Japan were profound almost beyond reckoning, and have had enormous impacts on modern Japanese society as well as on almost every other society in the modern world and throughout the course of history. And if it was right in 1946 and wrong in 1953, why doesn't the United States admit for once that it made a mistake? And I'm going to say something that I think perhaps ought to be done more by people in public life. I'm going to admit right here that the United States did make a mistake in 1946. We made a mistake because we misjudged the intention of the Soviet leaders." (Walt 168) Although the United States did well in eliminating any future threats from Japan, it was realized later on that Japan was left in the midst of a violent wave of communism with no means of defense but for the United States which did not wish for a direct war on the Soviets, who backed all communist countries. After disarmament was complete, MacArthur's next task was to see that Japan adopted a new, and democratic, constitution. When the Japanese government proved too confused or too reluctant to write a constitutional reform that satisfied MacArthur, he had his own staff draft a new constitution in February of 1946. This, with only minor changes made to please the conservative groups in Japan, was then adopted by the Japanese government in the form of an imperial amendment to the 1889 constitution. Japan's new democracy went into effect on May 3, 1947. The new constitution was a perfection of the British parliamentary form of government that the Japanese had been moving toward in the 1920's. Next, Masako Owada showed determination in not only her school work, but also in her efforts towards achieving her dream job: a diplomat in the Foreign Ministry. And for some, it stands as one of the most homogeneous nation in the world. However, when looking at Japan as a whole, and considering whether or not it homogeneity is a problem, or just another cultural phenomenon, one must look towards the root cause of homogeneism in Japan. In Japan's past, it has has been questioned, as well as assumed, that the growth of Japans homogeneous viewpoint was put forward by the government of Japan, and was done so by circulating false accusations of its lineage. One example of this happened back in the 1970's and 1980's when Japan only accepted a small number of refugee's from Vietnam and other nations in the southern parts of Asia. Yet at the same time Japan was bringing in labor for Korea and China before and during World War II. Like stated before, once Japan felt itself become a weaker force in the world, and its own view of itself suffered, ethnocentrism strived. Things started to change. Japan let in less cheep labor and less refugees as a way to preserve its pureness. Another argument made by Japan when asked why they had refused to bring in refugees at this time is very much the same argument made by Japan's establishment today. The reason Japan accepts so little refugees and the like is that the "mono–ethnic Japanese society has no tradition of accepting outsiders." However, as stated previously, the case before World War II showed the opposite. To put things into todays perspective, over the last few years, Japan has accepted about 2,560 refugees from around the world, while the United Kingdom has accepted 117,161 refugees as of 2015.
