2. SUMMARY
 Citizen-initiated request for pedestrian
improvements on Townsend near Cambridge
Elementary
 Potential improvements to complete sidewalk
network immediately around school’s property
 Estimated project costs of $25,000 to $45,000
 Proposed to split project over two fiscal years

3. BACKGROUND
 In September 2023, resident presented City Council with
petition requesting pedestrian improvements along
Townsend, across street from Cambridge Elementary (CE)
 Current condition on west side of Townsend
 Only half the block has sidewalks between Cambridge Oval &
Harrison; sidewalks at middle of block only extend south
 No sidewalks between Harrison & Ogden (next block north)
 No sidewalks west on Ogden (key access to Cottage District)

4. BACKGROUND
 Heavy traffic on Townsend, pick-up area for car
passengers at CE
 Limited sidewalks for pedestrians traveling west of
school
 City studied
 Location of Right of Way (ROW) boundaries via new
survey
 Current conditions of Townsend & nearby pedestrian
network
 Potential improvements to enhance safety & accessibility
