2. Tom Jenkins
 Tom Jenkins is a sports photographer that travels the world
getting photos of many different sports. He has been to six
football World Cups and four summer Olympic Games, he says
these were the best experiences of his career. Tom says that
he always dreamt of being a sportsman but never fully had the
enthusiasm to make it. So as he began to study photography in
school he realised that he could enter the sport industry from
a different angle.
 Tom went to the documentary Photography course run by
Magnum member David Hurn at Newport, South Wales. He left
the course in 1989 and started to freelance for the agency
AllSport along with newspapers such as The Independent and
Sunday Telegraph. In 1990 he began to do work for the
guardian and is still there today.
 He lives in London with his Wife and his two children, he says
none of them are interested in football which he loves.

3.  Rule of thirds – The player is the vocal point of the
image as he is in the centre.
 Camera angle – The shot is taken from a low angle
looking upwards at the player walking up the stairs to
collect the trophy for the 2004 Rugby World Cup.
 The player is the main subject but the people in the
crowd are still subjects as they're in focus.
 Framing – Framed so it shows the main subject at the
front of the image with his fans surrounding him.
 Lighting – The photo is an action shot at a stadium so
the light used in the image is natural light from the
flood lights as the photographer doesn’t have any
control over them. Although you could argue that its
non-natural light due to the fact that the flood lights
are powered by electricity and someone has turned
them on.
 The photo has a shallow depth of field as some of the
background is out of focus meanwhile the fans and
the player are in focus.
 Meaning – The meaning of this photo is to show that
the player with the number 10 on his back is the hero
as he's walking up the stairs and everyone is trying to
shake his hand.
 Shutter Speed – The photographer caught the player
walking up the stairs with all the fans waving their
hands at him to try and touch him. As the fans and
the player are in focus even though they are all
moving shows that a fast shutter speed was used.

4.  Rule of Thirds – Ronaldo is in the centre of the photo
so he would be in the middle square. He is the vocal
point of the image.
 Camera angle – The photo is taken at a low angle
looking up at the players, but the main focus is
Ronaldo.
 The main subject of the photo is Ronaldo as he's
scoring the penalty were as if Riena saved it he would
be the main focus of the photo.
 Framing – The photo is framed so it shows minimal
subjects but has the crowd in the background.
 The photo has a shallow depth of field as Ronaldo is
fully in focus meanwhile Riena is out of focus along
with Rooney and the crowd in the background.
 Lighting – The lighting in this photo is natural light
from the sun as it’s a mid day premier league game in
the summer.
 Meaning – The meaning of this photo is to show one
of the best players of all time scoring a penalty in a
match against his teams biggest rivals. It puts across
a message that Ronaldo has all eyes on him as you
can see the large crowd behind him.
 Shutter Speed – In the photo the photographer
catches a shot after Ronaldo just kicked the ball from
the penalty spot along with the ball actually flying
into the goal. This is a fast shutter speed as the
photographer caught Ronaldo after kicking the ball
and Reina diving for it without them both being
completely blurred out.

5.  Rule of Thirds – Most of the athletes body is
in the 3 boxes going down the middle as he's
the main subject of the image.
 Camera angle – It is a low angle looking
upwards at the athlete. This is done to make
him seem great and intimidating.
 The main subject of this photo is the athlete
as he's in focus. There are no other subjects
in this photo.
 Framing – Framed so it has the main subject
up close in the centre and in focus with the
large stadium in the background.
 The photo has a shallow depth of field as the
main subject is fully in focus meanwhile the
background is blurry as its not as important
as the athlete.
 Lighting – The lighting in this photo is natural
light from the sun. You can tell natural light
was used as you can see the bright blue sky in
the background behind the athlete.
 Meaning – The meaning of this photo is to
show that even though this man has a
disability he can still be a high level athlete.
The low angle helps this meaning massively.
 Shutter Speed – In the photo the
photographer caught the athlete running past
him on the track. The photo has a fast
shutter speed as the athlete ran past him as
the photo was taken but still managed to
fully be in focus.
