8. What is SLD??
• One-line diagram or single-line diagram (SLD).
• Simplified notation for representing a three-phase power system.
• Its application mainly in power flow studies.
• Electrical elements such as circuit breakers, transformers, capacitors, bus
bars, and conductors are shown by standardized schematic symbols.
• It is a form of block diagram graphically depicting the paths for power
flow between entities of the system.
• Elements on the diagram do not represent the physical size or location of
the electrical equipment, but it is a common convention to organize the
diagram with the same left-to-right, top-to-bottom sequence as the
switchgear or other apparatus represented.

53. • IEC 62271-100: High-voltage alternating-current circuit-breakers.
• IEC 62271-102: Alternating current disconnectors and earthing
switches.
• IEC 62271-200: AC metal-enclosed switchgear and control gear for
rated voltages above 1kV and up to and including 52kV.
• IEC 62271-203: Gas Insulated metal-enclosed switchgear for voltages
above 52kV.
• IEC 60694 Common specifications for high-voltage switchgear and
control gear standards.
54. SF6 Gas: Sulphur HexaFluoride
Normal Gas:
• Colourless, Odourless, Heavier than air.
• SF6 is an inert, non-flammable, non-toxic, not corrosive.
Used for:
• Insulation and arc quenching.
• Flashed over gas (Breakdown):
• Odour (rotten eggs), skin and eye irritation
• non ozone-depleting insulating gas with a high global warming
potential.
