3. INTRODUCTION
• Mitochondria are consider as the power
house of the cell because in it the energy is
liberated and released in the form of ATP
which is generated thorough the ADP+Pi.
• It contains their own DNA. Most of the
proteins of this organelle are imported to the
cytosol after their synthesis. Most of the
proteins are synthesized outside the cytosolic
ribosome.
4. • Newly formed proteins are released into the
cytosol. The receptors recognise specific
uptake targeting sequences in the new
proteins.
• Targeting of sub proteins acquires sequential
action of two targeting sequences and two
membrane bound receptor. One is to direct
the protein into the mitochondria & the other
to direct the correct organelle or membrane.
• Generally the protein uptake into the
mitochondria is an energy requiring process
that depends upon the Mito. Membranes.

7. SYHTHESIS OF
MITOCHINDRIAL PROTEINS
• Most of the proteins of mitochondria are
synthesised in the cytosol.
• All newly formed mitochondrial proteins are
formed are initially located in the cytosol.
• Travelling proteins have their each n-terminus
residues comprises most targeting sequences.
• The receptor signal sequences are not identical
receptor itself recognises such sequences at
different destination from mitochondria now are
ale to bind through a different but related
sequences.
9. PROTEIN TARGETTING IN
SORTING
• Mainly most of the proteins of the cytosol or in the
mitochondria are targeting by the two chaperons
mitochondrial import stimulation factor (MSF)i.e. HSP-
70 and HSP-60.
• The sites from where it goes in side the matrix of the
mitochondria is two types TOM-22 & TOM-23 they get
further binds up with TOM-70 & TOM-37.
• Targeting while in sorting of proteins is done by the
two processes these are CO-translational import and
post translational import it occurs at the site where
chaperons proteins act n brings proximity an d made a
PMF across the membrane.
