time
“Insulated” bottles vs. regular water bottles
Holding similar volumes of water in sunlight over same time period
Comparing final temperatures and temperature changes
Determining governing constants and testing feasibility

Materials
◦ 4 different water bottles made of various materials
◦ HOBO data logger
◦ Water and Sunlight
◦ Stopwatch
◦ Dual-Range Light Meter
◦ Tape measure
◦ Thermometer
4. Methods
Fill water bottles with same volume of water
Take initial water temperature reading with a thermometer and a solar
light level reading
Place bottles in sunlight with temperature probes attached to HOBO
data logger
Allow bottles to sit in the sun for set length of time
Record final temperature with thermometer and final solar light level
readings

Errors in the probe readings
All results reported as actual vs probable

Large amount of unaccounted for data
◦ Deleted for “suspected” values
◦ Factors assumed negligible
◦ Shape, thickness, etc.
Still shows general expected trend
Tests would have to be redone with more repetitions and stricter
control of variables
Able to get similar values theoretically to experimental values using
reasonable variables
13. Conclusions
Insulated has second lowest temperature
change but had lowest final temperature
Had lowest starting temperature but
settled at temperature lower than others
All other water bottles ended around the
same temperature
