4. EXTERNAL PART OF THE NOSE
BRIDGE – middle top part of
the nose, and made up of
cartilage/soft bone.
APEX – tip of the nose
NOSTRILS – two openings
where airs enters when you
breathe.
5. INTERNAL PARTS
CILIA – very small and fine hair in the nostrils. It traps dirt and tiny
particles from air that enters the nose.
NASAL CAVITY – space inside the nose
NASAL SEPTUM – separates the left and right of the nose
MUCOUS MEMBRANE – warm and moisten the air you breathe
MUCUS – catches and helps get rid of very fine particles
OLFACTORY NERVES – distinguish one kind of smell from another,
then send messages to the brain (interprets the messages and tells
you what you smell.
8. RUNNY NOSE
• Usually due to flu or
common cold
• Nose produces a clear thin
discharge or thick mucus
• Person having this nose
problem feels uncomfortable
because of the discharge that
keeps running down to lips.
9. NOSEBLEED
• Vessels break due to cold or from
minor irritations
• HOW TO STOP: pinch the part of
the nose above the nostrils, sit
down, and lean slightly forward,
hold the position for some 20
mins.
• NEVER: lean backward, the blood
might flow to the nasal cavity and
clog it. It might also flow down
the throat, and might swallow it.
10. CARE OF THE NOSE
1. Use clean and soft cloth or handkerchief when cleaning the
nose. DO NOT use fingers to clean it, NEVER STICK any sharp,
pointed, or small object to the nose.
2. When having runny nose, DO NOT use fingers and your shirt
or top for wiping the drip. INSTEAD, use clean and sift cloth,
or tissue.
3. DO NOT BLOW hard your nose, it might cause further
irritation.
