2. Overview.
Gardens by the Bay is a nature park spanning 101 hectares (250
acres) in central Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir.
The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden,
Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden. The largest of the gardens
is Bay South Garden at 54 hectares (130 acres).
Gardens by the Bay is part of a strategy by the Singapore
government to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City
in a Garden".
Grant Associates has master planned the whole complex.
Their vision was to blend nature, technology, environmental
management and imagination to create a 21st century focus for
tropical horticulture and a unique destination experience.
Project is valued at around $500 million.

5. Main Gardens :
Bay Central Garden : It act as a link between Bay South and Bay East Gardens.
It spreads over 37 acres with a 3-kilometre waterfront that allows for
scenic walks stretching from the city centre to the east of Singapore. More developments of Bay
Central Garden are coming in the next few years.
Bay East Garden : Bay East Garden is 79 acres in size and it has a 2-kilometre frontage
bordering the Marina Reservoir.
It is designed as a series of large tropical leaf-shaped gardens, each with its own specific
landscaping design, character and theme. There will be five water inlets aligned with the wind
direction, maximizing and extending the shoreline while allowing wind and water to enter the site
to help cool areas of activity around them.
Bay East Garden provides visitors with an unobstructed view of the city skyline.
6. Main Gardens :
Bay South Garden : It is the largest of the three gardens at 54 hectares (130 acres) and aims to
showcase the best of tropical horticulture and garden artistry.
The overall concept of its master plan draws inspiration from an orchid as it is representative of the
tropics and of Singapore, being the country's national flower.
The orchid takes root at the waterfront (conservatories), while the leaves (landforms), shoots (paths,
roads and linkways) and secondary roots (water, energy and communication lines) then form an
integrated network with blooms (theme gardens and Supertrees) at key intersections.

9. Supertrees.
Supertrees are tree-like structures that dominate the Gardens' landscape with heights that
range between 25 metres and 50 metres.
These unique trees of up to 16 storeys in height can be found all around the Gardens - twelve
at the Supertree Grove, while the remaining six are placed in clusters of threes at the Golden
and Silver Gardens.
They provid scale and dimension to the Gardens while varying the form and function of mature
trees, the Supertrees also create height to balance the tall developments in the Marina Bay
area.
Supertrees are made of four parts: reinforced concrete core, trunk, planting panels of the living
tree skin, and canopy.
Supertrees are embedded with environmentally sustainable functions like photovoltaic cells to
harvest solar energy.
10. Over 162,900 plants comprising more than 200 species and varieties of
bromeliads, orchids, ferns and tropical flowering climbers are planted on the
Supertrees.
At night the Supertrees come alive with a dazzling light displays bursting across
the sky.
Supertrees are are vertical gardens that perform a multiple functions, which
include planting, shading and working as environmental engines for the gardens.
The is a Skyway which has a 128-metre long walkway with a height of 22-metres
that connects two Supertrees at the Supertree Grove, and takes one across
different view of the Gardens.

It is a giant sculpture of a sleeping baby suspended in mid-air installed at the Gardens by
the Bay.
It was constructed in 2008 & is made of bronze and steel.
It is 10- metres long and weighs 7-tons, and appears to float weightlessly above the
ground.
It depicts the artist’s son at 7-months old, and is one of three sculptures that drew
inspiration from the early development of his infant son.
According to Marc Quinn “It is both a reflection of ourselves and the earth upon which we
live,”.

16. conservatory complex.
The conservatory complex at Gardens by the Bay comprises two air cooled conservatories –
The Flower Dome and The Cloud Forest, situated along the edge of Marina Reservoir.
The conservatories are intended to be an energy efficient showcase of sustainable building
technologies and to provide an all-weather edutainment space within the Gardens. Both are
very large (around 1.2 hectare (3 acres)
The Flower Dome is the larger of the two, at 1.2 hectares (3.0 acres). It replicates a mild, dry
climate and features plants found in the Mediterranean and other semi-arid tropical regions
(e.g. parts of Australia, South America, South Africa).
The Flower Dome is the worlds largest column less glasshouse.
The Flower Dome is 38 metres high and maintains a temp. between 23°C and 25°C.
The Flower Dome features 7 different "gardens.
17. conservatory complex.
The Cloud Forest is slightly smaller at 0.8 hectares (2.0 acres). It replicates the cool moist
conditions found in tropical mountain regions between 1,000 metres and 3,000 metres
above sea level, found in South- East Asia, Middle- and South America.
It features a 42-metre "Cloud Mountain", accessible by an elevator, and visitors will be able
to descend the mountain via a circular path where a 35-metre waterfall provides visitors
with refreshing cool air.
The cloud forest also contains exhibitions of mineralogy and caves.
The Secret garden contains plants from ravines and tree from New Zealand
The lost world contains pitcher plants, fly-traps, orchids.
