2. College with a Kid
• Nathan had just finished his first year at
college when his life was turned upside down.
This documentary follows Nathan as he starts
to learn what becoming a teenage dad really
means. We will see the highs and lows
and the struggles and sacrifices he faces in his
relationship with his girlfriend, his school life
and social life in his journey from life of the
party to life at home with the family.

4. Research into Existing texts

• Handheld Camera
• Interview
5. Style of Existing Text
• Formal
• Informal
• Investigative
• Observational
• My documentary will be informal with a fly on
the wall approach
6. Research into Target Audience
• My first target audience was 20-24 year old
females who are interested in documentaries
and are still living at home with their parents
• My new target audience is 16-19 ear old male
students, this is because I think it is more
relevant to them
8. Money in Football
• The idea is current
• Good knowledge on the topic
• Not clear on which conventions will be used
• Not Original
9. Students & Sport
• I have a personal interest in this topic
• Easy links to interviews
• Moa too vague
• Small target audience
10. Teen Dad
• Unique- New angle to the theme of young
parents
• The use of a Vlog is a good idea
• Idea too broad
• Moa is weak
11. Viability of ideas
• Money in football- Not viable due to how
much I would depend on football clubs
responding to my emails and the public willing
to be filmed
• Sports & Students- Easy to do but boring and
small target audience
• Teen Dad- Viable due to interview links, low
cost and broad target audience
12. Development of Idea
• Teen Dad is my final choice
• Best response from peer feedback
• Decided to focus on young dads in the city going
to college
• After interviewing somebody from my target
audience I decided to change my target audience
to a more relevant group
• I also decided to follow one specific person
throughout the documentary instead of having
lots of different people interviewed
13. Research into content
• I watched a lot of documentaries with a
similar topic and wrote a textual analysis, this
helped me decide what conventions to use
• Researched facts and figures about teen
pregnancies in London
14. Costs and Budgeting
• Hypothetically I would use about £2000, this is
because I would need to hire a camera and
maybe have a crew member
• I would also use this money for distribution
e.g an advert on either MTV or Chennel 4
• I don’t have any money since I can use the
school equipment the only budget I would
need is for travel
15. Placement and Distribution Strategy
• Facebook have a variety of groups which are
specific to my target audience e.g Young parents
in London, I would post a link to my documentary
and ask them to share it, this would give good
publicity to my target audience.
• Twitter
• Youtube there are many channels which could
advertise my documentary such as young dads TV
16. Legal and Ethical Issues
• Since I am not including the young dads
partner I need to be careful about what is said
whilst talking about her, I also need to ask her
permission to use pictures of her for archive
footage
• I am hoping to use Kings College Hospital as
one of my locations, in order to do this I will
need permission to film
