2. Why Is audience research essential
before starting this task?
To design a successful magazine cover it is
essential to know your target audience. To know
their likes and dislikes, interests and their
personal information e.g. age and sex. If you
aren’t aware of your target audience, you wont
know what will sell, so therefore your magazine
wont be successful.
3. Prior Pursglove students.
When it came to deciding what questions to ask
fellow students, I thought about the what key
personal details will form their opinion on
magazine content.
4. Are you male/female? Do you have any hobbies, if
so what are they?
What type of music do you Do you like
listen to? concerts/music festivals?
Where do you buy your clothes Where do you live?
from?
How old are you? What magazines do you like to
read?
5. Ten Prior Pursglove College students were given the questionnair with the
following questions:
6. The following slides will include graphs showing
the demographic results to students preferences
to the asked questions from my questionnaire.
As some students put more than one answer for
some of the questions, there will be more
statistics so therefore more than ten results per
question (graph)

17. After analysing my results, I know that to run a successful magazine that would appeal to students, I would
have to include:
1. Fashion pages, including TOPSHOP clothing and links to online shopping, because most people answered online, to where
they shop for clothes.
2. Include where to go on weekends, events that you can attend with friends, as that is what students enjoy, but also mention
part time jobs for ages 16+, this will be relevant for students because they are working in spare time to earn money for their
selves, those who don’t have one will be wanting to get one, otherwise they wont be able to maintain their busy social life.
3. This magazine will cater to suitable topics/issues for sixteen and seventeen year olds.
4. As the results were equal for male and female, the magazine wont be gender specific and will appeal to both male and
female.
5. Horse riding will be including and have its own page due to such a high number of students that horse ride as a hobby.
6. It is clear that a high number of us students like to attend music events, so advertised in the magazine will be coming up
events such as concerts, then line up to festivals in the music festival season.
7. Due to the high number of students that live in Skelton; the magazine will mention events, clubs etc. in that area.
8. Gregs is the most popular place to eat if students eat in town (Guisborough) so I will put offers and coupons in the back of
the magazine which will attract students to the magazine because they love a gregs pasty!
9. I will try to take inspiration from NME and VOGUE magazine, from the layout to the content, as that is what students at the
age of 16/17 are reading.
10. In addition to including NME style content, there will be music based pages, but to specify music, it would have to mention
RnB, Rap, Alternative rock and Drum and Bass, because those genres are preferred by students at Prior Pursglove.
18. £££
After asking the previous questions, the pricing issue came
to my attention, i didn’t know what was a suitable price to
sell ‘Teen Anarchy’ at. So I went around the campus again
simply to ask students what they would pay for a
magazine. It wasn’t an official data collection, it was just to
give me an idea of an appropriate selling price. Although
VOGUE is sold at £4.00 and Is popular to the students of
Prior Pursglove College; it isn’t a magazine aimed at
students. As mine is, I want to make the magazine
affordable to the younger, part time workers that are still
in education.
