3. INTRODUCTION
➢The parent company and subsidiary of DRC UG Mine is COAL INDIA LIMITED and
WESTERN COALFIELD LIMITED.
➢The head office of WCL is at NAGPUR( Maharastra).
➢The mine is situated at WARDHA RIVER BELT.
➢Durgapur Rayatwari Colliery is the largest underground mine of Chandrapur Area.
approximately 165 Km away from Nagpur by road.
➢The mine has common boundary with Chanda Rayatwari Colliery and DRC 6,7,8 (Sinala UG
project).
➢The mine as part of Chanda Rayatwari Colliery and become a separate mine in the year 1982.
➢The mine has three entries and two airshafts. DRC 6,7 & 8 has two entries and one return
airway.

11. Method Of Working
Bord And Pillar With Sand stowing method
The following sequence of working was observed during field visit:
➢ Development working:-” development was done by drivage of level & dip gallery in the bottom section of 1st
lift of 3m height & 25m length in panel system.”
➢ Depillaring of Developed Pillar:-” Each pillar so developed is divided in to two equal halves by driving
level split & dip slices towards the goaf, maintaining a rib of coal against adjacent goaf.”
➢ Sand stowing operation:-” The void created as a result of driving slice is completely filled with sand”.
➢ 2nd lift extraction:-” Extraction of 2nd lift is commenced in such manner that original gallery, split gallery &
slice are driven exactly over the 1st lift”’
➢ Line of extraction:-” Extraction of pillars is commenced by maintaining a diagonal line of extraction.”
➢ Final Operation:-” After complete extraction of the panel, it is sealed off by isolation stopping.”
14. DRILLING
➢Drilling is done by “Portable Drilling machine”.
➢The holes of 32 mm diameter and depth 1.5m are drilled by Portable Drilling Machine.
➢0.5 m is filled with cartridges and rest 1 m is filled by stemming.
➢The drilling pattern adopted is “WEDGE CUT” pattern.
➢11 holes wedge cut pattern is used.
16. BLASTING
➢ The P5 or Pent dyne explosive is used for blasting.
➢ 3 Cartridge are used in per hole.
➢ 1 cartridge have a weight of 185gm.
➢ Priming cartridge is a cartridge in which detonator is attached.
➢ Ordinary Electrical detonator is used.
➢ After connection of wires blasting is done with the help of Exploder.
➢ Blasting voltage is 9V.
➢ Series connection is used for blasting.
❑ Quantity of explosive:
➢ 1 hole: 3x185=555gm
➢ 11 holes: 11x555=6105gm/blast
➢ Output per blast: 11tonns

It is a safety device use for indication of strata load.It is thin from middle part so when strata load
is high than it breaks from middle of prop.
