1. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
Wordpress is a free web open source software. It lets anyone to create and edit new web pages and blog
“posts” using only a web browser. I used Wordpress to frequently update my blog on my journey
throughout making both my student magazine for the preliminary task and my music magazine for the final
product.
Advantages
• Easy to use
• Offers a wide variety of layouts and themes
• Allows you to create specific content that can be organized into headers, footers and sidebars of your
pages
Disadvantages
• Anyone can see it
• Quite basic
Google is a popular search engine on the internet receiving several hundred million queries each day. I used
it to find webpages for the Nicki Minaj profile, images of poses Nicki Minaj and Tim Westwood do, and
images of Vibe and RWD cover pages, content pages and double page spreads.

Gathers search results in seconds

Anything is accessible
Youtube is a website where you can upload share and view videos. I used Youtube to view
interviews, biography and songs from Nicki Minaj, Tim Westwood, K Koke and Wretch 32. This helped me to
create every page of my magazine for the final task.

2. Photoshop is a digital image editing software. It is used to enhance and edit pictures. Pictures from
posters, book covers, and magazines etc. have either been created or edited using Photoshop. I used
Photoshop to slightly alter the skin tone of my model making her a tad more saturated and lighter for my
music magazine for the final product.
Advantages
• Once learnt, anything is possible
• Can assist photographers, artists, designers etc.
Disadvantages
• Difficult to learn
• Expensive
In Design is a desktop publishing software. It is used to create the design and layout of
posters, flyers, magazines, brochures, newspapers and books. I used In Design to create the front
cover, contents page and double page spread for both my magazines for the preliminary and final product.
Advantages
• Can create multiple pages
• Key for design work
Disadvantages
• Difficult to learn
• Expensive
• Will need to work alongside other difficult software such as Photoshop
Studio Lighting was used to light the left and right hand side of the model, this created a shadow. There
was then a light on the top elevating the shadow. It helped create a bleached quality look. This was used
when photographing my model for my magazine for the final task

• Can control light and shadows
Disadvantages
• Produces heat

3. DSLR camera stands for digital single-lens reflex. It is a digital camera but the image that is seen through
the view finder is the image that is captured. I used this to take pictures of my model for each page of my
magazine for the final task.
Advantages
• Better image quality
• Better sensitivity to light
• You see what you shoot
Disadvantages
• Heavy
• Not as straight forward
Point and Style shoot camera is also a digital camera but far more compact and simpler to use. I used this
to take pictures of my model for my magazine for the preliminary task.
Advantages
• Easy to use
• Lightweight
• Has autofocus, automatic exposure options, and flash
Disadvantages
• Poor quality
• Limited control
My mobile phone enabled to me keep in touch with my friend who I required to be a model, arrange
suitable times for the photo shoot and discuss appropriate props and clothing to bring along with her.

• Easy communication

• Not answering phone calls!
