1. How did you use new media technologies in
the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Tomas Mcloughlin
2. New media
• New Media is refers to the modern day utility of digital media
giving consumers the ability to access anything, anywhere at
any time. Effectively new media is the surge of pocket devices
released in the last few years which give the consumer access
to all platforms of media, i.e. the
iPad, Kindle, Smartphones, portable consoles and much more.
• New media is widely accessible, interactive and can be shared
via various platforms (such as blogs, social networking).
• New media was at the heart of my music video project
throughout pre production, production and post production.
3. Hardware
• Video Camera
The camera I used was a Canon flip video camera. It was of a satisfactory quality and allowed me
to do the things that I wanted to do in my video. The camera came with a tripod which I used in
some parts of my filming. The tripod was effective in parts as it prevented shaky camera
movements which I may have lost marks for. I used various shots with the camera including point
of view shots, pans and 360 degrees rotations. The camera and tripod were easy to use and set
up and allowed for easy production as well as uploading.
Digital Camera
My 16 megapixel Samsung camera was used to piece together my album cover, inside and the
magazine advert. The camera was of very good quality, which is of course necessary to produce
professional album cover and promotional material. Having a camera made my production much
easier as I could just simply go out and take good quality photos rather than having to borrow
one or having to use a poor quality camera.
• Mac
The Apple Mac is easy to use and has great tools. It was a useful piece of hardware as it has
iMovie installed on it, which was useful as I used iMovie to edit my film. The only disadvantage is
that I had to use the same Mac to be able to go away and com back to my work later, because it
can take up to an hour to Sync my files to another mac. If someone is using the Mac with my
work on, I cant make any progress.
4. Photoshop
• Photoshop was a useful tool which I used to construct my advert, digipack
and disk.
• Photoshop is a very useful tool which allowed me to do pretty much
whatever I wanted with my photos and text.
• Tools included magic wand, lasso and gradient. I used the gradient tool too
create an effect on the inside of my digipack.
• In my advert I used the colour variation to make changes to the lighting of
the picture to make it look more appealing and realistic.
• There are many fonts on Photoshop which I used to make my products
realistic. Photoshop allowed me to create my logo for my artist. Using the
banner tool I placed the blue text on top of a plain. black rectangle banner.
• Looking back Photoshop was the best software for me to create my
products as it gave me so much freedom and creativity.
5. iMovie
iMovie is a software that enables you to import and edit footage, adding sound. It is
slick and easy to use and enabled me to cut clips very precisely.
iMovie was great as it helped me to ensure my lip syncing was up to scratch as well
as providing a transition at the end.
An advantage of using iMovie was that it was I could access it on a day to day basis
at school. I couldn’t however continue editing my music video at home because I
would need a an apple device to use iMovie.
Overall iMovie was a great editing software which help me edit my film exactly how
I wanted it and was easy to use, enabling me to complete my editing in a short
space of time.
6. Wix.com
Wix is a website similar to Piczo which allows anyone to design
their own website. It was particuarly good for my project as it
allowed me to tailor my website to the image of my artist.
Wix is convenient as it allows me and my teachers to access my
work both at home and at school. At first Wix was difficult to get
to grips with but once I got the hang of it, it became easy and
slick to use.
My website is split into three sections – research and
planning, production and evaluation.
Uploading things onto the Wix website is easy and versatile as
you can put work in any format - from plain text and virtual
books to videos, prezis and slideshares, Wix allowed me to
incorporate my other technologies into one website.
Editor's Notes
Stage 2: Make a list of all of the new media technologies you have used in your research, planning, production and evaluationStage 3: Explain the process of using these technologies. Do them individually. The way you present this is your own choice! Be interactive! Be interesting! I challenge you not to bore me.Things you could include: •Links (see the example below, they use these well)•Images
