1. Technology and Me
A personal timeline
of educational technology
By Tim Freitas
2. Overview
Aloha! My name is Tim Freitas
I started school way back in 1971 and went to Benjamin
Parker Elementary School in Kaneohe
I graduated from high school in 1983 from Damien
Memorial High School…Go Monarchs!
I first went to college at the University of Hawaii in Manoa in
1983 and have finally decided to come back for my masters
in Educational Technology.
When I finish my degree, I hope to become a better
instructional technology specialist at the private institution
that I currently work at during the day.
3. My definition
of educational technology
The ability to properly facilitate learning
with the integration of technological
tools or resources afforded to you.

5. Kindergarten technology
From finger painting to iPad art, elementary
children have come a long way over the years…
Computers…what was that? Lots of experiential
learning.
Watching Kikaida on the Television was exciting,
but we had to stand up to change the channel.
A tape recorder was our technology for music.
6. High school technology
A time for building your arm strength with all the textbooks we
had to haul around from class to class.
Scantron! Yeah, we loved to hear the sounds it made, but not
when it was my card.
That was my first introduction to technology - Apple II Plus
and learning keyboarding.
7. College technology
Wow, how times have changed from the 1980’s to present
time.
A presentation in class was by an old projector or VHS tapes,
now it is by a Promethean Board or Slideshare.
I learned about the Internet back then, now I rely on the
Internet for information.
8. A vivid technology
learning experience
∗ All these tools (iPads, MacBook Air, LadyBug,
Promethean Boards) close at hand to enhance
student learning and sharing around the world
9. A technology I want to use in my
classroom
∗ I want to explore the use of the iPad with a class of
students to explore, create and share.
10. My vision of the classroom
of the future
∗ I want a mobile device that will allow me to teach without
walls anywhere and at anytime.
11. A challenge for teaching
∗ Slow connectivity
∗ Keeping up with how
technology
constantly changes
