2. Film Company Logo Research and
Analysis
Most film company logos, either mainstream or independent, in
order to symbolize the company and to be easily remembered
they need to follow established design rules and design rules,
codes and convention. Key specifications are:
• Unique and recognizable text
• Graphical elements that resemble or depict companies key
attributes
• No more than three colors are used
• Logos can be textual, abstract, pictorial or combination of
these three
• Design must be easily scaled up and down without losing
quality or recognition
3. This logo of a well-known and established production company is
composed out of text and two graphical features. The font is informal
and has reference to graffiti hand written styles. The font is in write
color in order to stand out from the yellow background. The most
noticeable graphical element is two speech bubbles which composed
together resemble simplified fish form. The simplified graphical
element of a rooster symbolically represents awakening, something
new , a new day and these connotations can be linked with films that
this company is producing.
4. This logo represents well-known Hollywood company with very long history. The logo
itself is composed of graphical , textual and pictorial features. The textual element
belongs into serif script type face. This type of font resembles hand written signature
and in that sense this font represents company’s identity. Graphical star elements
that are placed in a circle formation which symbolically represents stardom and
prestige. The pictorial element is dominant and most noticeable feature within this
logo composition. In regards to codes and conventions of logo design it does not
comply fully because it is a realistic rather than graphic representation of a mountain.
Metaphorical this element represents the peak or top in regards to achievement and
quality.
5. This logo is the simplest from the above searched ones and is composed
out of simplified elements of a box and text. The font belongs into sun-serf
category and key adjectives are informal and hand written. This is
purposely done in order to reflect the company’s contemporary attitude
and approach towards film making. Above the text, a square is placed
which is in contrast to text itself because of the straight lines and sharp
edges, which could be connoted as professional and reliable.
6. Research summary
During my film company logo research , I have realized
that there are specific design codes and conventions
that must be followed and applied in order for the logo
to be easily recognizable and easily associated with a
specific company or product. For that purpose I will
make sure that these design elements are incorporated
with my own film company logo.
7. Potential Company Names Ideas
• RADO
The company name is simplification of my surname. As such this logo should reflect my
family’s beliefs, opinions and standards. Therefore, the logo will need to be very formal and
to look professionally. In the Serbian language it refers to be willing to do something.
• Nautical
Reflects adjectives that represent freedom, expanded space and an ever-changing period.
Kvisco
This name is unique and is easy to remember. In the east European language it is associated
with intelligence and high achievement.
• Reel
There is a double meaning where is it written as a meaning of a film reel but as a
homophone refers to realness which can be associated with social and cultural issues that
the company is concerned with.
• Triggerfinger
It is very catchy and very memorable phrase which has some negative connotations with
violence and weapons but it can be associated with pressing the record button on a camera
or triggering something of importance.
8. Final Film Company Name
Initially my first choice was to go with the name RADO as
my film company name but after consultation with my
peers and subject teacher and decided with a combination
of two names from my initial list. For this project I have
decided to go with RADO REEL production name, mostly
because I am working on my own initiative and it reflects
my individuality which thus contains positive connotations
to the work I display. In addition, reel has a straightforward
association with the film industry therefore the audience
from the graphical element would be able to recognize my
logo with the film the product and company.
