Analyze the Learner
I am going to be teaching my 2nd grade student the history of dinosaurs and introduce the
different types of dinosaurs that existed during this time period. There are 20 students in my
class, 11 boys and 9 girls. The students are 60% African American, 30% Caucasian and 10%
Hispanic. Two of the students have mild ADHD.
State Objective
Students will be able to describe what a paleontologist is and how they connect the bones.
By the end of the day with a 90% accuracy, by digging for fossils, reading a story, making
fossils, YouTube paleontologist video and a fossil activity.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials
Materials needed for this lesson plan include sand, bones, small brushes, construction
paper, q-tips, and books.
Utilize Media and Materials
Preview the Material: I will go over the materials needed and make sure I have enough
for each student.
Prepare the Material: In order to be prepared I will set up the digging for fossils station
with the chicken bones in sand and put small paint brushed on the side on the tables, to use for
digging.
2. Prepare the Environment: I will have uniforms the students can wear when they dig
for fossils.
Prepare the Learner: The students will use their leaves that they collected outside to
create fossils on construction paper.
Provide a Learning Experience: Students will paint their arm and place bones on the
painting.
Require Learner Participation
The students will be encouraged to participate in all of the activities and crafts.
Evaluate and Revise
Students will bury bones and have another group dib them up and put them together.
