1. Scenario #2
(A)nalyze Learners-
Considering the holidays are right around the corner I will be teaching a few
holiday traditions to 4th graders. I have twenty students including eleven girls, and
nine boys. Amongst the students there are two Muslims, three Jewish, two African
Americans.
(S)tate Objectives-
By the end of the week my students will accurately be able to identify
different attributes that are traditional for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I will teach
them a couple different traditions from different religions to provide perspective on
different traditions. My students will identify different colors associated with each
holiday along with the different foods. I will explain different methods of gift
exchanges that occur amongst people during this time of year. I also intend to make
the connection between the weather and the holiday season and how they are
different in other parts of the country. My students will have 80%-100%
understanding of the lesson by the end of the week.
(S)elected Methods, Media, and Materials-
I intend to compose a secret Santa project for the students to do in class for
the holiday of Christmas. I will utilize a Christmas movie along with class discussion
periodically about the movie. For the Thanksgiving holiday I will require a “show
and tell” session of objects that are often associated with the holiday. I will also
include a poster collaboration project of both holidays and the traditions.
(U)tilize Media and Materials-
I will prepare the classroom with the materials for the students to use for
their crafts during the secret Santa project. Before explaining the project I will show
them the way I made mine. For the movie I will review it and prepare particular
questions to ask during the movie. I will research and produce Thanksgiving
associated pictures to provide examples of what is expected for the “show and tell”
session. I am going to provide my own poster to show the fun I had with it and to
show different and similar aspects of mine versus their poster.
(R)equire Learner Participation-
2. Monday and Tuesday: Students will participate in the secret Santa project by
drawing a name out of a box and creating a craft for that person, however, the craft
will be made from that person’s perspective of the Christmas holiday. It will require
them to make the craft to best fit their method of celebrating Christmas.
Wednesday: Students will watch a Christmas movie and will participate in class
discussion throughout the movie to analyze different traditions portrayed in the
movie. Thursday: Students will gather things from around their home to best
describe their celebrating habits of their version of thanksgiving. They will then
present their items to the class with a brief description. Friday: Student will
collectively make a poster collaboration of everything they have learned.
(E)valuation and Revise-
Everyday I will be able to evaluate my methods, media, and material by
focusing on the responses of each student. If and when I recognize an issue I will
revise and improvise to insure a better understanding of the material to where all
students are on the same pace.
