WHAT IS
OTT ?
OTT stands for “Over the Top” which refers
to delivering the content using online
services. Content creators use the popular
streaming channels of the web to serve
their work. There are many popular OTT
platforms available some of them are,
Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Youtube.
4. " OTT is not new we are using them for
more than a decade now but during
the time of Covid, this industry
witnessed a great amount of user
attraction. Not only in video streaming
some audio streaming platforms like
Saavan, and Spotify has also
performed better in the last couple of
years. "
5. WHAT
IS
THEATRE
?
Theatre is a collaborative form of performing
art that uses live performers, usually actors
or actresses, to present the experience of a
real or imagined event before a live
audience in a specific place, often a stage.
The performers may communicate this
experience to the audience through
combinations of gesture, speech, song,
music, and dance.
6. Difference Between Theatre and Cinema .
Theatre is a building or outdoor area for
housing dramatic presentations, stage
entertainments, or motion-picture shows. In
British English, cinema refers to a building that
contains an auditorium for viewing films – this
is equivalent for movie theatre in American
English.
8. Disney+hotstar is the biggest OTT platform in India with 29% of users.
In 2022 more than 53 million subscribers are paying subscribers.
Despite Covid, the Indian theatre market will touch 182 billion Indian
rupees market.
The Indian film industry is the biggest entertainment industry in the
world.
In 2022 films like KGF2 and RRR made the cinema alive and collected
a huge amount of money.
9. ''Pros and Cons of OTT''
• Pros of OTT
• OTT platforms are cheaper than
the theatre. The average cost of
the monthly subscription to the
OTT platform is around 149 to 199
in India. Where the cost of a single
ticket in multiplex starts from 249/-
in small cities.
• OTT has an advantage of the time
duration. The average duration of a
web series is 7-9 hours on the
other side the average duration of
a movie is 2-3 hours.
• Content is the king and that is the
universal truth. In the past few
years, OTT has pulled off content
that is relatable, extreme, and
entertaining.
• OTT gives the flexibility to watch the
content at any time from anywhere.
• OTT is promoting promising actors
and most numbers of users want to
see deserving actors.
10. • Perhaps the biggest downside to
the growth of OTTs is the fear of
theatres shutting down which will
lead to a loss in jobs. Multiplex
chains like INOX and PVR have for
years provided employment to
hundreds of workers and invested
significantly in infrastructure.
• Many people in India do not have
access to a smartphone, laptops or
such devices. In such cases,
people will have no choice but to
go to theatres.
• For people who seldom watch
movies, OTT subscriptions can be
quite expensive.
• During the pandemic, where
releasing the movie on OTTs was
the only viable option, revenue and
profit were significantly reduced for
such producers as OTTs acquire
broadcasting rights at a much
lesser price. If this continues, the
movie-making industry can be
financially affected.
Cons Of ' OTT '
11. ''Pros and cons of THEATRE''
• Pros of THEATRE
• Going to watch movies in big screen theatres is an altogether
unique and immersive experience which cannot be possibly
replaced by OTTS.
• Theatres provide employment to a number of skilled and
unskilled workers.
• Going to theatres is often not just about watching a movie it is
rather about enjoying a day out with your friends or family.
12. • 3D or 4D movies can be
experienced and enjoyed only in
theatres which has the
infrastructure to support such
movies.
13. • Theatre can not function during
pandemic and other similar
situations. Even in post pandemic
situation , people are worried of
visting theatres because of the
number of people.
• Theatres are much more
expensive for people who
regularly consumes a content . A
much cheaper solution would be
opting for OTTs.
Cons of THEATRE
15. In the discussion of OTT against the theatre or vice
versa, the best content serving platform will win the
race. Right now OTT is delivering that quite beautifully
but some content creators are promoting violence
which will not be acceptable to a large audience. If
movies are able to cater to the audience’s preferences
well then people will choose them also. So what to
choose between them is a subjective choice because
everyone has different tastes.
