3. ● An over-the-top (OTT) media service is a media service offered directly
to viewers via the Internet. OTT bypasses cable, broadcast, and satellite
television platforms; the types of companies that traditionally act as
controllers or distributors of such content. It has also been used to
describe no-carrier cellphones, with which all communications are
charged as data,avoiding monopolistic competition, or apps for phones
that transmit data in this manner, including both those that replace other
call methods and those that update software.

4. Rise Of OTT Platform
● The lockdown induced by COVID-19 saw the consumption of online content
increase manifolds. Before that, OTTs in India had a niche market. As the cinema
halls were shut, several users switched to OTT platforms for entertainment.
● Even producers found it feasible to release their films via streaming services to
cut down on losses. ‘OTT release’ became quite normal for films last year.
● However, with the things getting back to normal and the cinema halls now allowed
to operate with 100 percent capacity, the OTT release may come down a little this
year. While this shouldn’t affect the business of OTT platforms much, it’ll definitely
take some audience away who loves to watch movies on the big screen in cinema
halls.
