The document compares and contrasts the ADDIE model and the Dick and Carey instructional design model. The ADDIE model is a linear 5-stage process of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. It provides structured guidance and flexibility. However, it can be time consuming and assume learner requirements are already understood. The Dick and Carey model has more detailed iterative phases and focuses on analyzing, organizing content, and evaluating throughout the process. However, it may be too specific, rigid, and not use all necessary steps. Both models take a systematic approach and share similarities in focusing on inputs, outputs, and the design process, but differ in their number of phases and approach to evaluation.

List Of ProsOf ADDIE Model
1. Structured guidance.
ADDIE is a cycle. Furthermore, you can find all of the significant
stages of a generic ISD process.
2. It has considerable flexibility.
When it comes to something like instructional design, it is
important to work with a model that is going to emphasize
flexibility in the best fashion possible. That is definitely something
you will notice with ADDIE. Revisiting and refining, if those are
things you need to do, are going to strike you as pretty
straightforward.
3. It gives you a great starting point.
If you need a good place from which to begin your work, ADDIE can
certainly give you a logical, straightforward starting point. As you
work to plan and then create trainings, you can rely on ADDIE to
keep you moving along the right path.
4. It is extremely versatile.
One of the best things about ADDIE? You can use it with just about
any kind of learning you can imagine.

List Of Cons Of ADDIE Model
1. It is extremely time consuming.
This is perhaps the biggest potential downside for the ADDIE
model. Generally speaking, we need to move quickly, when it
comes to putting a course together. The ADDIE model is a time-
consuming model, so there are a number of individuals who will
want to consider something else right out of the gate.
2. The cycle can be problematic.
Remember that we are dealing with a cycle concept, when we
talk about the ADDIE model. This means that more often than
not, if one aspect of the cycle is negatively impacted, you are
going to perhaps need to worry about the whole thing.
3. It assumes.
One of the most annoying things about ADDIE is that it assumes
the requirements of the learner are already understood.

Advantages of dick and carey model
Effectively organizing the content for easy understanding
Strong in the analyzing and evaluation of instruction
Provide a detail step by step process and guide to the
instructional designer
Can be applied across several learning objectives
Easily modify according to change in theory and media

DISADVANTAGES OF DICK AND CAREY MODEL
Disadvantages:
Focused on the product rather than the system
To specific on the objectives in order to be successful
Presumption that learning can be predictable and reliable
Too rigid and too many stages
The Instructional designers do not use all the necessary steps.

Comparison
Each model has its own unique characteristics and elements that make up each phase. The five phases of the ADDIE
model: analysis, designing, development, implementation, and evaluation, have a clear meaning and understanding.
This step-by-step method occurs linearly with easy distinction in progression. With the Dick and Carey model, it
includes much more detail phases. The Dick and Carey consist of ten detail phases that are executed iteratively
rather than linearly like the Addie model.
The evaluation process in the two methods of instruction has its differences as well. The ADDIE method is set up to
evaluate in the fifth and final phase in its approach. This phase consists of two forms of evaluation formative and
summative. The Formative focuses on the processes done throughout the model, and the Summative is a testing
method on related items designed to give feedback from the users. The Dick and Carey model has evaluations
throughout each phase of the method. Revisions are made throughout each step in order to improve directions and
understanding in each phase. Data is also used in order to identify any difficulties that one may be having
throughout each phase. The final phase allows the designer is able to formatively evaluate instruction and revise to
meet the standard of design.

Similarities
There is a similarity between both the ADDIE
and Dick and Carey models of instructional
design. The system approaches that are both
models are on the input, the output, and the
process of designing the curriculum. The two
differences are the number of steps put into
each model and the evaluation process of
each method of design.
