GREEN BUILDING
PRESENTED BY GROUP B –
THANK YOU
WHAT IS GREEN BUILDING ?
• “A Green Building is one which uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources,
generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional
building.”
‘Green’ Symbolizes Environmental Sustainability
• Green building addresses the following: -
• Architectural features
• Water and Energy efficiency
• Materials
• Waste Management
• Environmental Aspects
• Indoor Air Quality
• Occupants Thermal Comfort
CONVERSION OF A CONVENTIONAL BUILDING TO A GREEN BUILDING
• NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, HUMAN HEALTH, AND THE ECONOMY HAS BEEN
AFFECTED A LOT BY BUILT ENVIRONMENT.
• WE CAN IMPROVE BOTH ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE BY
ADOPTING GREEN PRACTICES
• GREEN CONSTRUCTION AT ANY STAGE CAN BE IMPLEMENTED IN BUILDING, FROM
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION, TO RENOVATION AND RECONSTRUCTION.
• ADOPTING GREEN PRACTICES FOR AN EXISTING STRUCTURE AND CONVERTING IT
INTO GREEN ONE IS LATEST INNOVATIVE TREND.
COMPARISON OF TARGET BUILDING:
AMENITIES & MATERIALS -
Parameters Imperial Heritage Green Building
Water Efficiency Rain Water Harvesting Facility only • 100% on site water treatment,
• usage of non- potable water for
landscaping,
• gray water for toilet flushing,
• rain water harvesting and water efficient
fixtures
Balcony and Windows High quality powder coated aluminium
Sliding windows with saint gobain glass
Double glazed units with selective
coatings with low heat transfer and high
light transmittance
Ratio of voids to built area As per standard design parameters Increased number of voids to bring in
more light and ventilation and better
view to the inside of the building
Interior lighting Tube lights and CFL lighting LED light and daylight sensors
Exterior lighting Regular External lighting Low lighting power used to reduce
night light pollution

METHODOLOGY
• For analysis and study purpose, we are carrying out work and study at
Imperial Heritage by Shree Ganesh Builders & Imperial Lifestyle Pvt Ltd
Nallasopara (E)
• Aspiration for green building, the building has to aim for IGBC Existing
Building Certification.
• Committee includes facility managers, corporate, government, builders,
developers, architects, consultants, manufacturers and industry
representatives.

ECONOMIC CONSIDERATION
• Tangible benefits:
1. Energy efficiency
2. Water efficiency
3. Waste reduction
• Intangible benefits:
1. Using less toxic interiors
2. low-emitting adhesives, paints, carpets and composite wood
3. Illuminating 75–90% of the space with natural light
4. Thermal comfort due to local control over air conditioning and better ventilation
COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS
Green Materials Equipment and
Techniques
Unit Value(Cost
Premium)
Benefits
High Quality Steel with recycled metal
content
INR per
tonne
5000 • Metal Recycling Saves Energy and natural resources.
• Reduces substantial amount of green house gases
produced in ore mining.
Fly ash content in cement % 22 • Low cost substitute i.e costs about INR400 per tonne.
• Reduces amount of cement used therefore cost saving
without effecting compressive strength properties.
Aerated Blocks Per piece --- • 37% more strength than burnt bricks.
• Resistant for cold and wet climate.
• Light weight.
Double Glazed Glass INR psf 10 • Stops heat to enter the building & from direct sunlight.
• Thus maintaining a lower room temperature as
compared to outside environment.
Ultra low plumbing fixtures % 5 • Judicious use of water by minimizing wastage.
• Water cost saving upto 30%.
Rooftop Garden INR psf 250 • Cleaner storm water runoff therefore less stress on
cleaning systems.
• Protects building from direct solar heat in summers and
in winters provides insulation.
• Green roofs lasts longer and improves air quality.

Benefits
Energy Modelling
Consultant
INR Million 1.2 • Ensures proper establishment of green construction.
• Ensuring electricity cost saving upto 25%.
• Ensuring water cost saving upto 30%.
CONCLUSION
• Applying Green practices can help resolve national issues like energy
efficiency
• Water efficiency helps in reduction of fossil fuels and adopt eco-friendly
practices
• It helps in enhancing the occupants’ health and also improve the quality of
life
• Making building sustainable will not only improve the standard of living of
people but will also help in future generation of India to become healthier.
