1. Evaluation
How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Media technologies which I used
• Blogger
• YouTube
• Adobe Premier Pro
• Camera
• SD card
• Scanner
• PowerPoint
• Excel
• Google Docs & Slides
3. Blog
I used Blogger to document my coursework journey.
• I was able to upload my work through google docs/ slides.
• I organised my blog into tabs so that it was easy for the viewer
to follow and find specific parts of my journey.
• I embedded my YouTube videos on my blog rather than just
posting links
• Blogger was the site I used for evaluation question three as I
could upload and organise my audience research in a way that’s
easy to follow.
4. YouTube
• YouTube was useful to search for tutorials for skills such
as editing tools on Adobe Premier Pro and uploading
different media forms such as PowerPoints and videos
to my blog.
• On YouTube I found existing trailers to analyse and refer
back to when creating my trailer.
• I uploaded evidence of me experimenting with lighting
a face in a dark room and a first attempt at editing to
show the viewer my journey and progression.
• I uploaded my film trailer and embedded it on my blog
using the URL.
5. Adobe Premier Pro
Over time my experience grew and I could edit more
efficiently.
• I used the razor tool to cut and arrange footage for the film
trailer.
• For audio transitions I dragged and dropped the cross fade
effect onto the cut to create a seamless start and end to
each piece of sound.
• For video transitions I mostly applied the effects ‘fade in/
out’ and ‘dip to black/white’.
• I positioned the sound on three different layers to control
the volume and create continuity between the audio clips.
• I learnt to export my final cut and editing experiments in the
most suitable format. This was windows media player.
6. Camera
• I used the white balance every time I filmed which
made a huge difference and created continuity
throughout the trailer. Plus, the ability to use the
white balance on set reduced post-production.
• The Canon camera I filmed with had a good field
depth which made the end product appear
professional.
7. Light
• Although light isn’t a digital technology, I learnt
through experimentation that the Cannon film
camera’s high sensitivity lens if hugely effected by
the amount of light exposure the subject has.
8. Scanner/ SD card
• Scanning was a useful
method of uploading my
hand-drawn storyboard
drafts to my blog.
• I used an SD card to
transport the video footage
and still shots from the
camera to laptop, where I
could edit them.
9. PowerPoint
• To present research on existing media products and
theories.
• To construct the ancillary tasks. I made use of being
able to easily change the size and drag and drop
images and text to fit the codes and conventions of
romance film advertisements.
10. Excel
• I used Excel as an effective way of inputting data
from questionnaires and presenting my audience
feedback in graphs and charts as a method of
primary research.
11. Google Slide and Docs
• I uploaded the relevant documents to google docs/
slides where I could chose the ‘embed’ option and
copy the link into my blog post where it
automatically appeared as a video on the blog.
