Scriptwriting Evaluation
My Project
For my assignment, I had to write a script for my filmwith a chosen genre of my choice.
However, alongside the script, I was also asked to do a proposal to accompany it. I decided
to write a script in the drama/thriller genre with a target audience aimed at teens and
young adults.
The Proposal
The first thing that I had to do was to write a proposal before I write my script. However, the
first thing that I had to do was do some independent research on how a proposal is
structured.
According to filmlifestyle.com, a proposal starts with a synopsis. It says that the synopsis
should tell you producer’s a brief overview of the story’s first act to help intrigue the
audience and have then gripped to the movie.
Logline
According to filmlifestyle.com, a proposal should also include a developed logline. According
to the website, it says that a logline is when you describe the scripts in 30 second or less.
According to an article on lightsfilmschool.com, a logline should include an adjective if the
logline includes a character and should always have the main plotline described and never
any sub-plots.
Screenplay Structure
According to info.finaldraft.com, a screenplay is usually structured in three acts.
Act 1 mainly focuses on setting up and main storyline and introducing us to the main
protagonists. It can also set up some individual character arcs and their inciting incidents.
Act 2 is often the halfway mark of a film script. It can also introduce many more different
main storylines or sub-plots and introduce other protagonist or antagonists. It is also where
the protagonists find to idea to fix a problem or they attempt to fix the problem.
Act 3 is where the main storyline concludes in a film. it is used to finish story arcs and
subplots and can also be used to give characters some closure such as redemption or a since
of victory.
Characters
The next part of a proposal is the introduction to the characters involved in the story. They
help show the producers each character’s personality and their motivations and what their
roles are in the story.

Treatment
A film treatment in a proposal is used to give a more detailed explanation of the narrative of
the film. to cover every aspect of each main storyline and each sub-plot.
Target Audience
A target audience is vital for a proposal as is for your film overall because it helps you
recognise who your film is for and why is it for that certain neigh.
My Idea
For my script, I wanted to write a story in the Drama/Thriller genre. I wanted to write a
Drama script because according to an article on masterclass.com, the drama genres typical
codes and conventions are mainly story-driven and rely in character development. This
inspired me to write a script which relies in dialogue to help move the story forward.
According to the article also, the thriller genre blends mystery and tension in their filmto
keep the audience hooked. When writing my script, I want to use the dialogue to tell the
story vaguely in act one to help give the audience a scene if ambiguity with will make the
audience want to keep watch and the producers to keep writing my script. My two main
influences for my story came from a horror/thriller video game called the Last of Us Part II
and a horror/ triller film called Halloween. The last of us part II tells the story of 19-year-old
Ellie who is seeking revenge on her farther figure’s killer and at the halfway point, the story
switches perspectives to the killers. This keeps the audience on the edge of their seats and
to keep them thinking about who the true main antagonist is. My scripts story is similar to
the video games story but instead in my script, it is the antagonist who is seeking revenge.
Halloween tells the story of a stalker/killer Michael Myers who returns to his childhood
town to wreak havoc on the people living in it. This character inspired me to create the main
antagonist called Isaac who stalks protagonists Mel and Ellie through the woods.
Formatting my script
For my script, I had to make sure that I was using the right format to make it look
sophisticated. To do this, I wrote my script using a program called Celtx. This programme is
used to help format my script correctly and to help show where each thing needs to go.
Overall, my script went through three drafts with my third draft being my final draft. When I
completed my first original draft, I requested some feedback from some of my classmates.
Scriptwriting Evaluation
My feedback was mixed for my first draft as they said that the description of my script was
too vague and seemed like the audience had no emotion in their dialogue. They also
pointed out that there was no introduction to the characters.
For my second draft, I reflected on my feedback and added an introduction to the character
when they were first introduced into the story and added a description on what you can see
in the setting. I also added parentheticals when a character is saying something a certain
kind of tone. After I done this, I then asked for the feedback form my classmates again.
Overall, the feedback was better than my first draft and was mostly positive. However, they
pointed out that I shouldn’t give an overview of each character’s personality as I should only
describe what they are wearing and their features. I was also told not to describe the setting
like a novel and to only descript what I see on the screen.
For my third and final draft, I reflected on my feedback once again and only described what
we can see on the character and what we can only see in the setting instead of describing it
as a story. Overall, I think that this final draft is a massive improvement to my original two
scripts as it looks more like a sophisticated script and I will carry these thoughts on in future
projects.
