2. KIDNEYS
• The kidneys are paired retroperitoneal
• Lie at the level of the T12 to L3 vertebral bodies.
Location:
• Parallel to the lateral border of the psoas
muscle.
• Lie at an oblique angle.
3. • Structure:
• bean-shaped
• superior and inferior pole.
• Normally 10-12 cm in length, 3-5 cm in width
and weighs 150-260 g.
4. • Vascular Supply:
• Arterial – Renal artery (branch of abdominal
aorta).
• Venous –renal veins which drain into
the inferior vena cava.
• Left renal vein is longer.
• The renal arteries are located posterior to the
renal veins and are smaller.

8. URETER:-
• Abdominal ureter - from the renal pelvis to
the pelvic brim
• Pelvic ureter - from the pelvic brim to the
bladder
• Intravesical or intramural ureter - within the
bladder wall
12. • Vascular supply:
• Arterial supply - from branches of the renal
artery, abdominal aorta, superior and inferior
vesical arteries
• Venous drainage - via branches of the renal
artery, abdominal aorta, superior and inferior
vesical veins
13. URINARY BLADDER
• Distal part of the urinary tract
• Structure:
• Triangular shape with a posterior base, an
anterior apex and an inferior neck with two
inferolateral surfaces.
• Abnormal wall thickening:
• >3 mm when distended
• >5 mm when non-distended
