The Government also takes several safety measures by setting a
special department to handle the situation.

cause serious damage without warning.

5. EARTHQUAKES
An Earthquake Is a natural disaster that is the result of movement of
the tectonic plates, deep inside the earth’s crust.
even a mild earthquake can cause injuries to people and damage
buildings. In case, a simple strategy ‘drop, cover and hold’ proves very
efficient !
6. FLOODS
the sudden influx of water in an area is called flood
Floods are caused due to –
overflow dams, continuous rain, bad water management,
etc.
in case of flood - prone areas, the government should ensure
the evacuation of people and animals to makeshift shelters located at
higher places.
7. DROUGHTS
Unlike most of the disasters, a drought is a sudden occurrence. It
is the result of scarcity of water.
Rainwater harvesting proves to be very useful in replenishing
the depleting supply of ground water.
8. CYCLONES
Cyclones Arelow pressure areas that occur over warm Ocean waters,
Accompanied by heavy rain and powerful winds at a very high
velocity.
To avoid much damage, cyclone- prone areas should have well sheltered
houses, which can with stand strong winds, An emergency kit should be
always kept ready.
9. FIRE
This Fire disaster is the most common amongst man - made disasters.
If not Taken seriously, it can cause severe injuries and damage, To Both Life
and property.
Some precautions include – things that catch fire easily, must be
disposed properly. Use stair case instead of lifts to evacuate buildings.
10. ROLE OF GOVERNMENT
The government must be fully prepared all times to tackle
various kinds of disasters at all times.
Fundsmust be kept aside and budget is to be set up For special
disaster management system.
Check defects in buildings, Faulty projects, dams, That may lead to their
collapse. Ensure the supply of
safety equipments.
11. ROLE OF PEOPLE
Every people as civilized citizens should be aware of the general Cautions
to be taken, both to prevent and avoid
disasters.
Every House must have a first - aid - kit. Some Members of the society
should know about basic first- aid procedures.
Peopleshould plant trees, both to prevent soil erosion and avoid Droughts.
12. ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONS
There are various groups such as the red cross, un agencies and non
– governmental organizations (Ngo’s) which Provide aid at the times of
disasters.
They work to decrease the sense of isolation and abandonment that
disaster victims often feel. They also provide food, shelter and medicine to
the victims.
13. CONCLUSION
Disastersoccur due to both natural and artificial causes. They Suddenly
cause havoc everywhere, Damaging both life and property.
Disaster management is the must to handle these unwanted events.
They can be a lesson for mankind to stop harming the nature and be
careful next time. Besides damage, they also help us
to know our faults and how to improve them With Time.
