The document discusses color correction techniques in lighting and stage design. It describes how lighting designers manipulate color through various methods, including colored lighting gels, dichroic filters, gelstrings, and automated color changers. These color correction tools allow designers to modify the perceived color of surfaces and create desired moods through lighting effects. The document also discusses how colored filters, diffusers, and roundels are used to spread, soften, and mix light for stage and photography applications.

5. Color Mixing-Mixing occurs any time two differently
colored lights are used on the same area
• Colors of the light sources
• Direction of the light sources
• Contour of the surface being lit
• Natural color of the surface
being lit
The resulting
color
depends on
several
things:
7. Color Modification Through Light
Under white light, a colored surface such as-
• green reflects only green wavelengths and absorbs
all others.
• A red filter allows only red light to transmit, which
mixed with a green surface appears black.
• Adding a colored filter to the white light changes
our perception of the colored surface.

Diffusers
• Colored Glass
• Roundel
• Dichroics
• Gelstring
• Frost
10. What Are Lighting Gels?
• Lighting gels are colored,
translucent sheets of thin plastic.
• Used by Photographers,
filmmakers, and stage lighting
technicians
Translucent-(of a substance) allowing light, but not detailed shapes, to pass through;
semi-transparent.
11. Lighting Gels
• Used to correct color and lighting issues.
• Used to create various tones and moods for movies,
• Used to replicate either daytime or nighttime lighting, or
• Used to balance intensity, light temperature, and other
parameters.

13. Light Diffusers-
scatter light to make it softer and more natural.
While diffusion gels consist of
plastics similar to colored gels,
fabric diffusers are also an option.
You can use fabric diffusers and
colored photography gels to lessen
the intensity of studio lights and to
introduce colors and tones for
different effects.
Diffusers reduce exposure and
soften the light in varying
measurements, known as stops.
Purchasing diffusers in various
strengths is an easy way to add
more variety to light options in
your setup.

15. Color Correction
• Colored glass filters are expensive and
break when dropped.
• It comes in few colors, is heavy, and is
bulky to store.
Colored
Glass
• it never fades
• it resists heat, and
• it can be molded like a lens in order to
spread light.

16. Color Correction

19. Automated Color Changers
• Units commonly called scrollers
• which use Gelstring: a series of

rolled to form a scroll
• Subtractive color mixers, which use
two scrolls mixing together to form a
