2. SEAWEEDS OR MARINE ALGAE ARE PRIMITIVE NONFLOWERING PLANTS
WITHOUT TRUE ROOT STEM AND LEAVES. THEY ARE THE RENEWABLE LIVING
SOURCES OF FOOD, FEED, AND FERTILIZER IN MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD.
THEY HAVE BEEN SCREENED EXTENSIVELY TO ISOLATE LIFE-SAVING DRUGS OR
BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES WORLDWIDE.
DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE THALLI ARE ALSO KNOWN TO DIFFER IN THEIR
ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL.
THE MARINE ALGAE FOR EXAMPLE ULVA FASCIATA, ALSO KNOWN AS LIME
PALAHALAHA AND SEA LETTUCE IS COMMON GREEN ALGA THAT IS USED FOR
CONSUMPTION IN MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD.
THESE SEAWEEDS ARE IMMENSE PHARMACEUTICAL AND AGRICULTURAL VALUE
. MANY COMPOUNDS ARE ISOLATED FROM GREEN ALGAE ARE KNOWN TO
EXHIBIT BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES .
ULVA SPECIES ARE RICH IN ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS AND THEY EXHIBIT ANTI-
PEROXIDATIVE AND ANTI-HYPERLIPIDAEMIC ACTIVITIES.
3. Materials and Methods
Study Area:The marine alga was collected from the sea coast of
Visakhapatnam ,Andhra Pradesh,India.
Collection Of Sample: Samples are used as the experimental algae to study
their bioactivity.Samples were rinsed with sterile water to remove any associated
debris.Sample was kept under sunshade. After drying the sample it was ground
to the powder form. The podwer was thenused for the estimation of
phytochemical compounds and antimicrobial activity.
Study Programme: Study conducted in the months of February 2020. Various
physicochemical & biological parameters uses for analysis.:

5. :Important Findings:
The present study suggest that marine green alga U.fasciata have a
more potential values of preliminary phytochemicals.
Screening of this plant extract revealed the presence of all the
phytochemicals tested except saponin,anthraquinone(aglycones) and
cardiac glycoside.
This plant showed large scale antibacterial activity and can be used to
discover bioactive natural products that may serve as leads for the
development of new pharmaceuticals.
Terpenoids present in higher amounts, alkaloids and flavonoids present
in moderate amounts.
6. FUTURE PROSPECT
Marine sources are receiving much attention mainly because of the contents
of functional ingredients such as polyunsaturated acids, β-carotene and their
pigment carotenoids, sulfated polysaccharide, and sterol.
These seaweeds are easily available
The extracted phytochemicals are not artificial so the demand of people is
increasing.
As infectious diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality
worldwide, systematic exploration of these marine seaweeds would give
valuable antimicrobial lead compounds and drugs which can be exploited
commercially as pharmaceutical industries also recognize the compounds
derived from natural resources.
7. CONCLUSION
Ulva fasciata has great potential as antimicrobial compounds against
clinical pathogens.
The result revealed that Gram positive bacterial cells are more susceptible
than the Gram negative ones
This plant showed large scale antibacterial activity and can be used to
discover bioactive natural products that may serve as leads for the
development of new pharmaceuticals that address higher to unmet
therapeutic needs.
To strengthen the global scientific effort, in the present study the
phytoconstituents found in the Ulva fasciata are documented.
