The following represents the tasks undertaken while employed by the City
of Marion 1986 - 2011
Community capacity building
Planning and coordinating of workshops and community consultation
events. Facilitation of a core group of local residents acting as a steering
committee in order to plan activities and events that bring local residents
together in order to support one another, increase feelings of
neighbourhood safety, and reduce isolation by increasing community
connectedness. Successful applicants for Community Achievement
awards
Volunteer management
Coordination of City of Marion 180 (approx) volunteer group.
Development of policy and procedure including but not limited to
recruitment, training, OHS, and celebrations. Developing new
opportunities and risk assessment for future programs including graffiti
removal, community transport, community visiting.
Youth work
Inception and ongoing coordination for City of Marion’s Youth Advisory
Committee (YAC), in collaboration with Office for Youth. Annual
recruitment drive and training camp. Development of skills in young
people to act as voice for young people to Elected members and a channel
for young people to be engaged by Elected members in matters relating to
their community. Training to organise community events. Temporary
backfilling positions at Cove Youth Service, including skate events, youth
week events, and youth achievement award nights.
Neighbourhood centre coordination
Development of activities for local community these included children’s
activities, migrant education, literacy and numeracy classes, fitness and
recreational activities. Overall centre management, fundraising, and
volunteering. Marketing and information dissemination.
Occupational health & Safety
Extensive experience with City of Marion’s Health and Safety Committee
and as a workplace Health and Safety representative including risk
3. assessment, policy, procedure and safe work practice, reporting and
investigation of hazards, accident and near misses, training in certain
areas relevant to workgroups, and workplace inspections.
Event management
Coordination of community and youth events including community
Christmas celebrations, mothers and fathers day breakfasts, national
volunteering celebrations, youth bands events and Marion’s outdoor pool,
Youth Week celebrations and consultations, community consultations.
Public speaking.
Customer service
Extensive first point of contact both phone and face to face with
customers and clients experience.
HACC
In home and phone assessment of frail aged clients in order to provide
services to enable them to stay in their own homes longer. Services
included in home respite, social support, transport, and basic home
maintenance.
Grant administration & Awards
Applied for and successfully awarded grants from Office for Youth for
Youth Advisory Committee and Youth Week activities, small grants for
volunteering celebrations and equipment, major grant from Federal Govt
for early interventions programs for 0 – 5yr olds at risk of poor social
outcomes, community engagement grants,
Networking
Coordinated Marion Community forum, hosted by City of Marion on a
monthly basis for over 10 years. Extensive knowledge of community
service providers and their service provision.
