1. Film Poster 3 - Analysis
Film posters create meaning for the audience because they usually establish what genre the film is by use of images or
text so the audience know what to expect before consuming the film as a product. In the poster below I have annotated to
show my understanding of how the elements of the film poster constructs that meaning.
Tagline
The Tagline is used as a
marketing tool to give the
audience ideas about the
narrative and genre. This
tagline is quite mysterious
by just linking to the title
so it might indicate the
plot is quite mysterious.
Central Image
The central image in this poster is
combined with the film title and is
designed as a cartoon graphic in the
style of writing you might find on a
cargo container or graffiti. The gives
meaning to the audience about the fact
that the film might be about a war time
film or have war themes.
There is a man talking on this image
and he looks lonely or lost and this
might give meaning to the audience
about the films narrative and plot.
The type of text and image might also
help to attract a male audience because
they might be more interested in war
genres.
It also might remind the audience of
video games and so attract the side of
the audience that play video games.
Colour Scheme
The colour scheme could be
linked to the image of the man
walking alone and the film
might make the audience think
it is set in a desert because
the producers of the poster
have chosen to use orange and
yellow colour scheme which
might make the audience have
an idea of the setting and
location used in the short
film - A desert
Film credits and details
This gives meaning about who
made the film and was
involved in its production.
Sometimes this will attract
fans of the directors or
actors.
Poster Layout
.
The layout of the poster draws the audiences
attention to the title and there is contrast of the
black text on the black and orange background that I
talk abut in the colour scheme analysis
Film Title - Cargo - the name of the film gives
meaning about plot and genre
