Sheet Pile Wall Design and Construction: A Practical Guide for Civil Engineer...
Question 1
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. Format conventions - Teaser Trailer
Conventionally, there is not a
lot of dialog in a teaser trailer,
our group decided to include
some dialog in order to give
more of a narrative to our
teaser trailer
Our teaser trailer was 1:35 seconds in length
which fits the teaser trailer convection of 40-
100 seconds long. ‘A teaser trailer that we
looked at was ‘A girl like her which had a
length of 1:41 seconds.
Conventionally, the pace of an edit is fast with quick cuts and
a lot of clips. This is because it makes the teaser trailer more
exciting to the audience giving the film more of a ‘buzz’. The
fast pace in the edit also creates suspense which fits our
narrative in the teaser trailer. Our teaser trailer was a mixture
of some continuity and mostly montage editing
Usually, only the very few main characters are
shown and the brief role of them is shown in a
short teaser trailer. They are shown in the teaser
trailer because they have a crucial role to the
storyline which is briefly shown throughout the
teaser trailer. In our teaser trailer, we decided to
follow only one character in depth with the brief
introduction of other characters.
The film title Is usually
position in the middle of the
screen towards the end of the
teaser trailer. This is done so
that the title stands and in
order to make people
remember it. We followed this
convention placing our title at
the end of the trailer. We
decided to base our title on
the youtube logo following
the theme of vlogging and
internet populataty.
3. Format conventions - Poster
A poster always contains a main image,
usually of the main character(s). The
image usually also reflects the narrative
of the film. Also, the image usually takes
up most of the frame. We decided to
follow these conventions by having the
two main characters on the front cover.
We also conveyed the two different
personalities of the characters through
the use of the split screen conveying the
narrative.
The billing block on a poster is often
seen at the bottom along with any other
information regarding social media and
promotion. The tagline of the film is
along with actors and actresses names
are seen at the top of the poster. Our
poster follows these conventions
however we put our sagline towards the
bottom of the poster underneath the
character faces.
A poster is designed as part of a marketing campaign in order to capture the
attention of the target audience and potential viewers. With our target audience and
genre we used colours, font and the mise en scene in order to do attract our target
audience
A poster
convention is to
include the title of
the film along with
any star actors/
actresses. When
looking at real
media examples,
we decided to
base our poster off
‘moonlight’ and ‘A
girl like her’
4. Format conventions - Magazine
Magazines have a house
style meaning all their
published magazine have the
same style that follow the
same uniques conventions.
This creates a clear brand
identity and makes their
magazines recognizable to
their audience.
It is also conventional to convey
the film genres through the
magazine cover. We did this
through the use of the characters
on the front, their positioning and
with the colour scheme on the
magazine.
We also decided to include
other convenctions such as
barcodes as they can be
seen on the house style of
our magazine.
5. Genre Conventions
It is conventional for
teen trams to be set in
high schools/ colleges
as seen from these real
media examples.
The characters that are in teen
dramas are conventionally based
on stereotypes associated with
teens, their attitudes and looks.
In all three
products, we
showed the
key themes of
our narrative.
Mobile phones also play a large
part in the conventions of teen
dramas . We clearly conveyed this
in our products with the use of a
mobile phone in the teaser trailer
and morgan holding her phone in
the magazine cover. Another
convection of a teen drama would
be the use of flashbacks and
daydreaming however this did not fit
with the theme of our narrative.
6. Institutional Conventions
We decided that our film is more
likely to be an independent film.
This is due to the low budget we
had and low budget associated
with independent films. This is
also as it is a british film making
it a british independent film.
