The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project in India, initiated under the 11th Five Year Plan, aims to construct high-capacity, efficient freight routes to improve railway transportation for goods, addressing issues of over-saturation in existing routes. Funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the World Bank, the DFC consists of Eastern and Western corridors, with completion expected between 2017 and 2019, significantly increasing freight train speeds and capacities. The project also promotes better connectivity between ports and industrial areas, fostering economic growth through improved logistics and transportation infrastructure.
