This was a project that I worked on during my undergraduate degree where the main goal was to understand how electrical engineering & technology can impact our daily lives in a resourceful and positive way. This model was picked for a honorable mention in the competition.
2. Traffic congestion and tidal flow management were
recognized as major problems in modern urban areas,
which have caused much thwarting for the
ambulance.
Moreover road accidents in the city have been
incessant and to bar the loss of life due to the
accidents is even more crucial.
To implement this we introduce a scheme called
AARS (Automatic ambulance rescue system).
3. The main theme behind this scheme is to detect the
accident vehicle by using a sensor circuit embedded
with a WSN connected to nearest emergency care and
to provide a smooth flow for the ambulance to reach
the accident spot in time and thus minifying the
expiration.
The idea behind this scheme is to implement an
intelligent system which would control mechanically
the traffic lights in the path of the ambulance.
4. The RF wireless acts as a communicator between the
ambulance and the traffic lights and also according to the
ambulance location and thus reaching the spot quickly.
The server also determines the location of the accident
spot through the sensor systems in the vehicle which
encountered the accident and thus the server walks
through the ambulance to the spot.
This scheme is fully automated, thus it finds the accident
spot, controls the traffic lights, helping to reach the
hospital in time.
5. Our system consists of four main units, which
coordinates with each other and makes sure that
ambulance reaches the hospital without any time lag.
Thus our system is divided into following four units,
Vehicle Unit
Main Server
Ambulance Unit
Traffic Junction Unit
6. Embedded system comprises of both hardware and
software. Embedded system is fast growing technology in
various fields like industrial automation, home appliances,
automobiles, aeronautics etc.,
Embedded technology uses PC or a controller to do the
specified task and the programming is done using
assembly language programming or embedded C.
Modern embedded digital world will innovative the entire
domain such like automobiles, industrial automation,
RFID, energy meter and especially biomedical.

11. Power supply is a reference to a source of
electrical power.
A device or system that supplies electrical or
other types of energy to an output load or group
of loads is called a power supply unit or PSU.
The term is most commonly applied to electrical
energy supplies, less often to mechanical ones,
and rarely to others.
12.
13. The AT89S52 is a low-power, high-performance CMOS 8-bit
microcontroller with 8K bytes of in-system programmable Flash
memory. The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high-
density nonvolatile memory technology and is compatible with
the industry standard 80C51 instruction set and pin out.
The on-chip Flash allows the program memory to be
reprogrammed in-system or by a conventional nonvolatile
memory programmer. By combining a versatile 8-bit CPU with
in-system programmable Flash on a monolithic chip, the Atmel
AT89S52 is a powerful microcontroller which provides a highly-
flexible and cost-effective solution to many embedded control
applications.

15. GPS stands for Global Positioning System by which anyone can
always obtain the position information anywhere in the world.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite
navigation system that provides location and time information
in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where
there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS
satellites.
The system provides critical capabilities to military, civil and
commercial users around the world. It is maintained by the
United States government and is freely accessible to anyone
with a GPS receiver.
16.
17. GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is
a digital mobile telephony system that is widely used in
Europe and other parts of the world.
GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access
(TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three
digital wireless telephony technologies (TDMA, GSM,
and CDMA).
GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a
channel with two other streams of user data, each in its
own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1800
MHz frequency band.
18. Vibration sensors are utilized in a
number of applications to measure
acceleration and/or vibration
activity.
Vibration or shock sensors are commonly used in alarm
systems to activate an alarm whenever the devices to
which they are attached are touched, moved, or otherwise
vibrated.
For example, vibration sensors are commonly placed in
windows of buildings to sense glass breakage and
in car alarm systems to detect vehicle tampering.
19.
20. A universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter is a type of
"asynchronous receiver/transmitter", a piece of computer
hardware that translates data between parallel and serial
forms. UARTs are commonly used in conjunction with
other communication standards such as EIA RS-232.
The MAX232 is an integrated circuit that converts signals
from an RS-232 serial port to signals suitable for use in
TTL compatible digital logic circuits. The MAX232 is a
dual driver/receiver and typically converts the RX, TX,
CTS and RTS signals.

22. There is loss of life due to the delay in the arrival of
ambulance to the hospital in the golden hour. This delay is
mainly caused by the waiting of the ambulance in the
traffic signals.
It would be of great use to the ambulance if the traffic
signals in the path of the hospital are ON.
Thus we propose a new design for automatically
controlling the traffic signals and achieving the above
mentioned task so that the ambulance would be able to
cross all the traffic junctions without waiting.
23. With this system the ambulance can be maneuvered from
the accident spot to the hospital without time lag.
The AARS can be proved to be effectual to control not
only ambulance but also authoritative vehicles.
Thus AARS if implemented in countries with large
population like INDIA can produce better results.
The AARS is more accurate with no loss of time.
24. Mainly used for Ambulance vehicles;
Fire Engines; and
Other Life Saving Emergency Vehicles.
