TAUHEED
(ATTESTATION TO THE ABSOLUTE ONENESS OF GOD(
• Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without
Faith is mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy
• Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with
IHSAN which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve
Allah s.w.t .
• Thus, in these three aspects can one be said to be true in his
submission to the Will of Allah (as Muslim).
ALL THREE ASPECTS ARE TO BE DEVELOPED IN TANDEM ACCORDINGLY
WITHOUT FOCUSING AT SPECIALIZATION UNTIL AT LATER STAGE
WHEN ESSENTIAL BASIC KNOWLEDGE IS WELL-ESTABLISHED

WHAT ARE “NAJASAH ” ?
❖ This is “spiritual” in nature as it pertains to
AQEEDAH (belief).
❖ The way to purify (such belief) is by adhering to

ISTINJA’ & ISTIJMAR
❑ Istinja’ is to use running water to cleaning away of najasa after
defecating and urinating, and passing out any type of najasa
(including blood and certain types of discharge)
How to perform istinja’ (washing(
1. After relieving oneself, perform istibra’: try to push out the final
drops/ bits of najis
2. It is recommended to use a dry wipe (e.g. tissue paper, dry
stone) before washing.
3. When washing, use the left hand in cleansing and ensure the
removal of all traces of the najis.
❑ It is obligatory (WAJIB) for male Muslim to be circumcised,
before which the uncircumcised male must ensure that when he
does the ISTINJA’ (after urination(, the foreskin is pull back to
expose the glans of the penis, to be cleanse thoroughly with
water.
ISTINJA’ & ISTIJMAR
❑ If water is not available or cannot be used, then one may
perform istijmar: using a dry material that has friction and has
no value (e.g. not pages of a book of sacred knowledge) to wipe
the private area. This includes paper, smooth stone, leaf, etc.
❑ Note: Performing istijmar is the exception – preference must be
given to the using of water for istinja’.
ISTINJA’ & ISTIJMAR
Conditions for istijmar:
❑ It should be done when the najis is still fresh and wet.
❑ It should be done with a minimum of 3 clean wipes.
❑ It cannot be done if the najis has moved to another part of the
body from where it exited.
❑ It cannot be done if more than 2 types of najis have been
mixed together (e.g. from 2 different “holes” of the private
area).

touching the skin (e.g. nail polish, dough caught beneath
fingernails, etc.; but dry pen ink that cannot be washed away

f. The skin should also be free from anything that would change
the water when it flows on the skin (e.g. moisturiser, cooking
oil or soap that were on the hands before taking wudhu’)

DETAILED: BATHING BY TOTAL IMMERSIONMETHOD # 2
All Rights Reserved© Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2016)
HOW DOES A PERSON PERFORM THE

• E.g., one cannot pray the `Eid prayer just with performing sunnah
ghusl without wudhu’, unless one performed wudhu’ before
ghusl, like in Method 1, and did not touch their private parts with
their bare palms during ghusl.

Ibnu ‘Abbas r.a. said: The Messenger of Allah s.a.a.w.
used to combine (JAMA’) obligatory Swolah of Zuhr’
with ‘Asr, Maghrib with ‘Isha’ (while domiciled * ) in
Madinah without apparent reason (excusable) of fear
(KHAUF), or rain. He was then asked as to why did
these, and he replied : “So that (it becomes) a way out
(to ease) my ummah (by setting this precedence).”
(Hadith reported by Muslim)
* Full raka’at without Qasr (shortening) as this Qasr only for travelers (musafir).

5. Direction to face
DIRECTION
(QIBLAH)

DIRECTION TO FACE (QIBLAH)
❑ Whenever one is to perform the Swolah, the direction is towards
the most ancient House of Worship ever built for mankind i.e.
The Ka’bah in Makkah.
❑ If we are for example in Singapore, the direction to face is
towards the north-West (291° clockwise on compass( –
of Makkah vis-a-vis Singapore.
❑ If uncertain, ask any Muslims domiciled in the country you are in,
or use your best judgement in orientating yourself.
