“AD-DEEN” - usually translated as “the religion” more
accurately it should be “a total way of life or a
comprehensive system of living”
• There is no moment in our life that is
detached from Allah.
• Islam not only provides for guidance in
matters of worship, but also as to how one
is to conduct oneself in daily matters
(social, economic etc.)
UNDERSTANDING FROM THE TERMS

Further elucidation of term “AD-DEEN ”
❑ The primary significations of the term “deen ” thus can be
reduced to four:
(1) Indebtedness
(2) Submissiveness/submission/surrender
(3) Judicious power
(4) Natural inclination or tendency

“ISLAM” –
“(peaceful) submission and obedience to God”
Name and description of the religion
revealed by God, since Adam a.s. and
then on continuously established by
many prophets and it culminated with
Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ being the last in
the line of prophethood.

“MUSLIM” - literally it means “one who submits
and obey, willingly surrenders to the will of God in
every moment of life”
• Its usage is not limited to only the time
of Muhammad [pbuh] but also to all those
who genuinely submit to the divine will
revealed to them in the past.

“ALLAH” - the name of God in Arabic. It refers to
the One and only God of the Universe.
• A proper noun, without any equivalent
in other non-Semitic language

From the founding of the well of “Zam-zam” in the valley
of Bakkah, it later grew to became known as Makkah to this day:

hunger, and with security against fear (of danger).”

“See you not how your Lord dealt with the Companions
of the Elephant? Did He not make their treacherous plan
go astray? And He sent against them flights of Birds,
Striking them with stones of baked clay.
Then did He make them like an empty field of stalks and
straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up.”
(Q: al-Fil: 105: 1-5)

• FIRST REVELATION
Proclaim! (or Read!) in the name of thy Lord
and Cherisher, Who created―

ِ‫أ‬‫ا‬‫ر‬‫ٱق‬ِ‫إ‬‫م‬‫ٱس‬‫إ‬‫ب‬ِ‫إ‬ِّ‫ب‬‫ا‬‫ر‬ِ‫ا‬‫ك‬‫ى‬‫إ‬‫ذ‬َّ‫ٱل‬ِ‫ا‬‫ق‬‫ا‬‫ل‬‫ا‬‫خ‬

ِ‫ا‬‫ق‬‫ا‬‫ل‬‫ا‬‫خ‬ِ‫ا‬‫ن‬ٰ‫ـ‬‫ا‬‫س‬‫ن‬‫إ‬‫ٱِل‬ِ‫ن‬‫إ‬‫م‬ِ‫ق‬‫ا‬‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ع‬
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of
congealed blood:

ِ‫أ‬‫ا‬‫ر‬‫ٱق‬ِ‫ا‬‫ك‬‫ب‬‫ا‬‫ر‬ ‫ا‬‫و‬ِ‫ا‬‫ٱل‬ُِ‫م‬‫ا‬‫ر‬‫ك‬
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful―

‫ى‬‫إ‬‫ذ‬َّ‫ٱل‬ِ‫ا‬‫م‬َّ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ع‬‫ٱ‬‫إ‬‫ب‬ِ‫إ‬‫م‬‫ا‬‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ق‬‫ل‬
He Who taught (the use of) the Pen―

ِ‫ا‬‫م‬َّ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ع‬ِ‫ا‬‫ن‬ٰ‫ـ‬‫ا‬‫س‬‫ن‬‫إ‬‫ٱِل‬‫ا‬‫ا‬‫م‬ِ‫م‬‫ا‬‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬‫ا‬‫ي‬ِ‫م‬‫ا‬‫ل‬
Taught man that which he knew not.

• WARAQAH IBN NAWFAL
“You will certainly be called a liar, ill-
treated, banished and attacked. If I am
still alive then, God knows I will support
you to bring His Cause to victory!”
• PERIOD OF SILENCE
Total reliance on Allah

• COMMAND TO PREACH PRIVATELY
O you who covers himself [with a garment],
Arise and warn!
(Al-muddaththir:74:1-2)

“(I ask You) O Allah! Guide my people
for they do not know.”

• "Oh, my Allah! To Thee I raise my hand to complain of the
feebleness of my strength, of my lack of resources and of my being
unimportant in the eyes of people.
• Oh, Most Merciful of all those capable of showing mercy! You are the
Robb ( Lord, Sustainer, Cherisher) of the weak, and You are my own
Robb ( Lord , Sustainer, Cherisher). To whom are You going to entrust
me to? To an unsympathetic folk who would sullenly frown at me, or to
an alien to whom Thou hast given control over my affairs?

• Not in the least do I care for anything except that I may have Thy
protection for myself.
• I seek shelter in Your light - The light that illuminates the Heavens
and dispels all sorts of darkness, and which controls all affairs in this
world as well as in the Hereafter.
• May it never be that I should incur Thy wrath, or that You should be
displeased with me. I must remove the cause of Thy displeasure until
You are pleased. There is no strength nor power but through Thee."

• ISRA’ WA MI’RAJ
“Glory to (Allah) Who did take His Servant for Journey by
night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque
whose precincts We did bless― in order that We might
show him some of Our Signs: for He is the one Who hears
and sees (all things).”
(Q: al-Isra’: 17: 1)
