21. Believe in the Decree and
Fore-Knowledge of Allah
The sixth aspect of Faith (Iimaan) required in the
Attestation to the Absolute Oneness of Allah (Tawheed)
80. “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a
loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and
indeed to Him we will return.”
Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy.
And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.”
(Qur’an: Yunus: 10: 107)
MESSAGE OF THE QUR’AN
87. • We cannot claim to know the knowledge that is with Allah
unless He reveals it to us.
• Thus for us in life, with time, things will gradually occur.
• This is what we may understand “Qadha’” to mean : the
fulfilment/ unveiling/ revealing of Allah’s fore-knowledge
(decree) of a matter
Qodha’ and Qadr –
Not a Fatalistic concept
88. • Only when it has occurred can we then say “this is in
accordance with the Eternal pre-existing knowledge and
decree of Allah (Qadr)”.

89. • Only when it has occurred can we then say “this is in
accordance with the Eternal pre-existing knowledge and
decree of Allah (Qadr)”.
• Before it has happened we cannot say something is
already predestined - to do so would still be only mere
speculation.

103. PROPHET MUHAMMAD
ىّصلهللاعليهلوعلىآلهلوبهْصحمّلوسل
“Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah
and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, then ask Allah
[alone]; and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone]. And
know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with
anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had
already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to
harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what
Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted
and the pages have dried.”
(Hadith reported by Tirmidzi and Ahmad)
114. Small Homework (Reflection)
● Think of something that you have been
afflicted by (in the past or present), and
● Reflect on the wisdom behind it and how
it has benefitted/ can benefit you.
