4. IMPACTS
• Ten out of 14 districts were badly affected.
• More than 50people have died.
• An estimated ₹8,316 crores worth of economic assets have been lost.
• Severe damage to crops & infrastructure.

5. CURRENT SITUATION
• Idukki dam was opened after 26 years.
• Red alert for several districts including Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram,
Palakkad, Idukki and Ernakulum.
• The Kochi airport operations are temporarily suspended.
• Hundreds of people living on the banks of Periyar river were shifted before
the gates were opened.
• More than 200 landslides were reported.
• Power supply and communication systems have been disrupted in various
parts of the state.

7. RESCUE MISSION
• Army, navy and air force personnel and 14 teams of the National
Disaster Relief Force, are engaged in relief and rescue operations in
the badly hit districts.
• 60,000 people were lodged in relief camps.
• All educational institutions in affected areas are closed.

8. RELIEF
• Kerala State IT Mission and IEEE has come up with KeralaRescue – a
website specifically designated for the relief and rescue mission in the
state.
