Germany has some cultural and geographic distances from India when it comes to spices. Germans speak a different language, have a different Christian religion and culture that prioritizes structure, privacy and punctuality. Their cuisine also heavily focuses on beer and meat. Germany also has no colonial legacy with India and lacks a common border, with its physical remoteness exacerbated by differences in climate and its size of 348,900 square kilometers. However, Germany has a large economy and follows EU legislation regarding spices and herbs, with its spice trade dominated by small and medium-sized players working through trading companies under its civil law system.
